Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Innate soul power: half a level 4 Awakens Luo Sanpao at age six. According to the Heavenly Screen, his inadequate physical conditioning prevents a potential Golden Sacred Dragon mutation from succeeding.
Level 29 Soul Grandmaster 2 4 Remains below the level-30 bottleneck for decades, attributing his limitations to his martial soul’s detrimental mutation.
Level 30 6 The Heavenly Screen’s reward increases his soul power by one level, breaking his longstanding bottleneck.
Level 31 Soul Elder 6 7 Receives a perfectly compatible thousand-year soul ring and reaches level 31. The Screen also strips his remaining Golden Sacred Dragon bloodline, causing Luo Sanpao to lose its physical manifestation and become the Fart martial soul.

Background / History

Childhood and Expulsion

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as the son of its leader, Yu Yuanzhen. At his awakening ceremony, he manifested Luo Sanpao, a foul-smelling creature resembling a pig and a dog, with only half a level of innate soul power. The Heavenly Screen later revealed that the mutation had originally offered a strong chance of producing the Golden Sacred Dragon, but that his childhood laziness and neglect of physical training left his body unable to withstand its bloodline power 3 4.

Yu Yuanzhen eventually expelled him from the clan. Unable to advance beyond level 29, Yu Xiaogang built his reputation around martial soul research and the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul, which he presented as the product of half a lifetime of original work 2 3.

Bibi Dong and Spirit Hall’s Archives

While wandering the continent, Yu Xiaogang met the young Bibi Dong, then Spirit Hall’s Saintess. She was attracted to his apparently profound knowledge and melancholy demeanor. He used their relationship and her privileges to enter Spirit Hall’s Highest Archives, copying records compiled by its elders and consecrators 4 14.

The Heavenly Screen later determined that more than ninety percent of his published Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul came from those records. It described his compilation as poorly assembled, altered, and riddled with errors rather than a genuine theoretical breakthrough 4.

Golden Iron Triangle

After separating from Bibi Dong and leaving Spirit Hall, Yu Xiaogang met Flender and Liu Erlong. The three traveled together as the Golden Iron Triangle, becoming known for a martial soul fusion skill that manifested a Golden Sacred Dragon 5.

Yu Xiaogang and Liu Erlong fell in love and nearly married. Their wedding was interrupted by Yu Luomian, who revealed that Liu Erlong was his illegitimate daughter and therefore Yu Xiaogang’s first cousin. Yu Xiaogang fled without comforting her or resolving their relationship. He avoided her for twenty years, spending part of that period in Nuoding City 6.

Tang San’s Apprenticeship

At Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy, Yu Xiaogang used a Spirit Hall certificate and his explanations of martial soul theory to persuade Tang San to accept him as his teacher. During their hunt for Tang San’s first soul ring, a Mandala Snake more than four hundred years old poisoned Yu Xiaogang. Tang San killed it using his previous-life Tang Sect techniques and saved him 10.

Yu Xiaogang directed Tang San toward a poison-control development path. He later treated Tang San’s achievement of becoming a level-33 Soul Elder at twelve as proof of his theories, while privately knowing that his disciple also possessed innate full soul power and the Clear Sky Hammer as a second martial soul 2 10.

Appearance

  • Adult build: Physically frail; later appears slightly hunched when emerging from Shrek Academy’s ruins 27 28.
  • Habitual bearing: Frequently stands with his hands behind his back, deliberately projecting the composure of an inscrutable master 2 11.
  • Youthful presentation: As a young adult, dresses impeccably and cultivates a melancholy, brooding air 4.
  • Final documented condition: Severely burned, with his clothing destroyed and large areas of skin blackened after his fight with Ma Hongjun 29.

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is intensely concerned with recognition. He regards theoretical authority as compensation for his limited cultivation and takes Tang San’s accomplishments as personal vindication. When the Heavenly Screen announces him as its first subject, he immediately assumes that this means he is the continent’s highest-ranked master 2 3.

His confidence is resistant to contrary evidence. He dismisses the exposure of his plagiarism as slander, denies the existence of soul beasts beyond the limits of his reading, and credits his own teaching for Tang San’s Heavenly Screen rewards while ignoring the accompanying criticism 4 11 13.

His conduct also shows a strong fear of consequences from powerful people. He suppresses his anger toward Ning Rongrong because of her sect’s influence and conceals his jealousy of Ning Fengzhi because he needs the protection of Shrek and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. After Shrek’s destruction, he attempts to regain Bibi Dong’s favor by fighting his own students 5 20 27.

Despite his public humiliation, he remains willing to accept disgrace in exchange for cultivation gains. After becoming a Soul Elder at the cost of Luo Sanpao’s physical form, he consoles himself that greater strength matters more than the continent’s ridicule 7.

Abilities & Skills

Luo Sanpao

Yu Xiaogang’s original mutated martial soul manifests as a separate, foul-smelling creature with piglike and doglike features 4.

  • Releases gas-based soul skills on his behalf 7.
  • Fails to overcome the Mandala Snake encountered during Tang San’s first soul-ring hunt 10.
  • Permanently loses its physical manifestation after the Heavenly Screen removes his remaining Golden Sacred Dragon bloodline 7.

Fart Martial Soul

Following his Heavenly Screen reward, Yu Xiaogang must release his gas-based soul skills directly from his own body 7.

  • Produces visible poisonous gas capable of covering more than half of Shrek Academy’s grounds during its initial activation 7.
  • The stench nearly causes the level-78 Flender to faint and forces nearby students to flee 7.
  • Requires enough activation time for a fast opponent to interrupt him 28.
  • Its gas is highly combustible; Ma Hongjun’s Phoenix Flame ignites it and turns Yu Xiaogang’s own attacks against him 28 29.

First Soul Skill: Farting Like Thunder, Heaven-Shaking Earth-Splitting

Releases a blast of yellow poisonous gas 28.

  • Creates a cloud in which Yu Xiaogang can conceal himself 28.
  • When Zhu Zhuqing interrupts its charged release, the gas backflows through his body and escapes from his mouth, incapacitating him 28.

Third Soul Skill: Chain Poison Gas Blast

The Heavenly Screen identifies his bestowed third skill as Chain Poison Gas Blast. He later invokes his third skill as “Chain Farts, Overturning Mountains and Seas” 7 29.

  • Releases successive high-pressure bursts of foul gas 29.
  • His attempt to use it to disperse Ma Hongjun’s flames instead feeds repeated explosions 29.

Golden Sacred Dragon Fusion Skill

As part of the Golden Iron Triangle, Yu Xiaogang participates in a martial soul fusion skill with Flender and Liu Erlong 5.

  • Manifests a powerful Golden Sacred Dragon 5.
  • Establishes the trio’s reputation across the Soul Master World 5.
  • Is a joint achievement rather than an independent manifestation of Yu Xiaogang’s martial soul 5.

Martial Soul Theory and Instruction

Yu Xiaogang’s teaching centers on his Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul and intensive physical training 2 4.

  • Published research: The Heavenly Screen attributes over ninety percent of his work to Spirit Hall’s archives and judges its original elements to have little practical value 4.
  • Tang San’s development: Recommends venom-bearing soul rings to provide early offensive power and opportunities to fight above his level 11.
  • Screen’s criticism: The poison-control route contaminates Tang San’s Blue Silver Emperor inheritance with impurities instead of developing its vitality, healing, or control potential 10.
  • Knowledge limits: Rejects the existence of the Snow Empress because his reading does not account for soul beasts with cultivation far beyond one hundred thousand years 13.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Heavenly Screen Assessment

  • Expects the master-disciple rankings to vindicate his reputation and potentially grant him godhood. Tang San shares his confidence 2.
  • Mistakes being reviewed first for being ranked first, prompting Yu Yuanzhen to apologize publicly and invite him back to the clan 3.
  • Attacks Ye Wuchen for pointing out the distinction between review order and ranking 4.
  • Has his failed awakening, plagiarism, and abandonment of Liu Erlong exposed. The Screen’s final verdict names him the “most laughable master” in the continent’s history 4 6.
  • Receives a cultivation breakthrough despite the negative assessment, but his transformed martial soul subjects him to further public humiliation 6 7.

Defending His Reputation Through Tang San

  • Urges Ning Fengzhi to watch Tang San’s assessment before withdrawing Ning Rongrong from Shrek, presenting his disciple as a worthwhile investment 9.
  • Reassures Tang San after the Screen condemns his poison-control guidance, temporarily restoring the disciple’s faith 11.
  • Claims credit when Tang San receives a martial soul evolution, five additional soul-power levels, and enhanced soul rings 11.
  • Publicly disputes the Snow Empress’s existence and refuses to believe Ye Wuchen could be more outstanding than Tang San 13.
  • Resents Ning Fengzhi’s superior rewards, contrasting the sect master’s evolved martial soul and hundred-thousand-year ring with his own loss of Luo Sanpao 20.

Failed Appeal to Bibi Dong

  • After Shrek is devastated and Tang San is taken away, approaches Bibi Dong in hopes of using their former relationship to secure protection and status 27.
  • Accepts her condition that he defeat one of his students before she will acknowledge his worth. He selects level-29 Zhu Zhuqing, believing her weaker attacks make her an easier opponent 27.
  • Loses when Zhu Zhuqing strikes before he can release his soul skill. Oscar supplies a Recovery Sausage with Bibi Dong’s permission 28.
  • Challenges level-29 Ma Hongjun next. Phoenix Flame ignites his gas, and his third skill worsens the resulting fire 28 29.
  • Is left barely breathing with severe burns. Bibi Dong departs, Ma Hongjun prevents Oscar from healing him again, and Flender instructs the remaining Shrek members to leave him to the consequences of his choice 29.

Relationships

  • Tang San — Direct disciple and Yu Xiaogang’s principal source of pride. Tang San repeatedly defends him and reaffirms his loyalty even after briefly doubting his guidance 2 5 11.
  • Yu Yuanzhen — Father and leader of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Expels him, briefly offers reconciliation after the ranking announcement, then regrets the public apology when the Screen exposes his conduct 3 5.
  • Bibi Dong — Former lover whose Saintess privileges he exploited to access Spirit Hall’s archives. Initially defends him publicly, but later rejects his attempted reconciliation and abandons him after his defeats 4 27 29.
  • Liu Erlong — Former intended bride and first cousin. Waits twenty years after he flees their wedding and publicly asks why he never found the courage even to apologize 6.
  • Flender — Former Golden Iron Triangle companion and longtime friend. Condemns his treatment of Liu Erlong, later strikes him, and finally refuses to help after he attacks Shrek’s students 6 14 29.
  • Ye Wuchen — Public critic who challenges his interpretation of the rankings and exposes the limits of his knowledge about powerful soul beasts 4 13.
  • Ning Rongrong — Shrek student who repudiates his training and demands to leave the academy after learning of his plagiarism 5 9.
  • Zhu Zhuqing and Ma Hongjun — Students he targets to win Bibi Dong’s approval. Both defeat him despite being two levels below him 27 28 29.
  • Oscar — Treats his first set of injuries with a Recovery Sausage and later attempts to save him again, but is stopped by Ma Hongjun 28 29.
