| Chunin | 267 | Retrospectively described as a chunin who followed Kakashi’s commands before his presumed death. |
| Mangekyō Sharingan and Kamui | 73 181 | Gains Kamui through his Mangekyō Sharingan. The technique is credited with allowing him to rise from chunin to someone capable of challenging Kage-level opponents. |

| Third-stage Susanoo manifested | 278 | His first demonstrated Susanoo is a green, half-bodied giant wearing Tengu Armor. It saves him from concentrated explosions but cannot match Madara’s Perfect Susanoo. |
Background / History
Obito was once a cheerful Konoha ninja who worked toward peace and dreamed of becoming a Hokage respected by everyone. He served on Minato Namikaze’s team alongside Kakashi Hatake. During his early career, he ranked at the bottom of his class and remained a chunin under Kakashi’s command 112 259 267.
He was believed to have died at Kannabi Bridge, leaving one of his Sharingan to Kakashi. Madara instead rescued him and selected him as his successor. Ning Feng later explains that Madara deliberately exposed Obito to the world’s darkness to turn him into a pawn 259.
Witnessing Rin Nohara’s death destroyed Obito’s hope in the world. He blamed Kakashi, whom he had trusted to protect her, and pursued a world in which Rin could exist again. With Madara’s guidance, he adopted Madara’s identity, secretly controlled the Fourth Mizukage, and used Kirigakure as a base for revenge 111 206 259 272.
Appearance
- Early mask: Conceals his face while leaving a single Mangekyō Sharingan visible; later explicitly described as spiral-patterned 140 192.
- Later mask: A white, three-tomoe mask, with his eyes positioned behind two of its openings after he recovers his second eye 260 279.
- Clothing: Wears black robes, black gloves, and a black combat outfit 192 267 278.
- Eyes: His Sharingan is repeatedly described as scarlet or crimson; initially, only one Mangekyō is visible through his mask 110 111.
Personality
Obito’s former idealism survives beneath his hostility. News that Ning Feng has improved the Uchiha Clan’s standing briefly makes him reconsider his path, recalling his parents, friends, and abandoned Hokage dream. He leaves before the conversation can persuade him further 112.
His attachment to Rin dominates his later ambitions. He seeks peace through the Eye of the Moon Plan, but also wants enough power to resurrect her and suppress anyone who opposes him. His bitterness toward Kakashi coexists with respect for Kakashi’s composure and battle experience 206 268 270 272.
He is distrustful even of Madara, his rescuer and mentor. During their joint campaign, he conceals his strength and preserves his options rather than allowing Madara to claim every benefit. His eventual cooperation with Ning Feng remains conditional: both Ning Feng and Orochimaru regard him as useful but unsuitable for important responsibilities 265 275 286.
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan
- Uses the Sharingan’s perception to track the trajectories of Flying Thunder God kunai during combat 142.
- Secretly controls Fourth Mizukage Yagura through his Mangekyō Sharingan, turning Kirigakure into a base for his operations 111.
- Possessing both original eyes greatly increases his chakra and visual prowess while unlocking Susanoo 269.
Kamui
Obito’s principal ability combines spatial transportation with defensive intangibility 181 269.
- Intangibility: Allows weapons, physical attacks, and ninjutsu to pass through him. Before recovering his second eye, he can maintain it continuously for five minutes 181 267.
- Spatial movement: Appears behind opponents, enters the Kamui Dimension, and transports allies or supplies through it 110 200 228.
- Contact capture: While tangible, can transfer something he touches into the Kamui Dimension 228.
- Dual Kamui: Restoring both eyes extends his intangibility severalfold and allows transportation attacks without close-range contact 269.
- Offensive severing: Attempts to transfer Madara’s head into the Kamui Dimension; Madara survives by having Limbo shadows intercept the attacks 271.
- Materialization openings: Sustained attacks can prevent him from safely becoming tangible. Ning Feng repeatedly exploits this with dense ninjutsu bombardments 111 181.
- Shared-dimension vulnerability: Kakashi’s Kamui can send objects and attacks into the same dimension. Ning Feng exploits this to bombard Obito inside it 151.
- Other limits: Fast opponents can evade Kamui’s offensive activation, and sufficiently large techniques can exceed what Obito can transport 276 280.
Susanoo
- First manifests as a green, third-stage Susanoo wearing Tengu Armor, rather than beginning with a basic skeletal form 278.
- Shields him from Tobirama’s concentrated explosive-tag assault and wields a chakra weapon against Madara 277 278.
- Remains half-bodied and markedly inferior to Madara’s Perfect Susanoo in size, chakra solidity, and control 278.
- Places an immense burden on his body and eyes. Even Hashirama-cell regeneration cannot fully offset the pain, cellular damage, and depletion of visual prowess 279.
Hashirama-Cell Augmentation
- Contains a high concentration of Hashirama cells, with further cells supplied by Madara during his training 142 278.
- Regenerates wounds sustained in the explosive-tag barrage 278.
- Greatly reduces the strain of ordinary Mangekyō use and helps him rapidly transplant his reclaimed eye 269 270.
- Enhances his physical abilities, though Ning Feng judges his taijutsu insufficiently developed through dedicated training 280.
Fire Release and Wood Release
- Uses a fireball against Kakashi’s apparent clone during their duel 267.
- His Fire Release mastery is compared with Madara’s, although his current strength remains below that of his original-story counterpart 254.
- Sends numerous wooden branches underground to force Kakashi out of hiding 268.
Izanagi
- Retains Izanagi as a final trump card during the Kirigakure confrontation 181.
- Had already used it during the Nine-Tails incident without overcoming Ning Feng; consequently, he doubts it can save him from another sustained assault 181.
Six Paths Techniques and the Demonic Statue
- Madara teaches him Six Paths forbidden techniques and Yin-Yang Release, but his lack of the Rinnegan restricts their effectiveness 270.
- Operates the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path in battle, including an attack that forms a black sphere toward Minato’s forces 261.
- His access to the statue depends on Madara’s assistance and summoning arrangements. He cannot independently transfer control of it to Ning Feng 280.
- Recognizes the Rinnegan as a missing requirement in his pursuit of Six Paths power 270.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Chain — Used to bind opponents, deflect shuriken, and intercept Ning Feng’s surprise sword strike against Madara 111 254 268.
- Explosive tags — Conceals prepared tags inside his sleeve before attacking Konoha 141.
- Giant shuriken — Uses them to harass Ning Feng during the battle alongside Madara and Hashirama 265.
- Gunbai, formerly owned — An epic-grade Uchiha war fan crafted from a God Tree branch. Its Uchiha Reflection absorbs chakra, converts it into wind, and reflects an enemy’s ninjutsu. Obito gives it to Ning Feng after their first encounter 112.
- White Zetsu forces — Claims to possess fifty thousand Hashirama-cell creations capable of absorbing chakra and copying an opponent’s appearance and abilities. Later offers cultured White Zetsu bodies as reincarnation vessels 194 200.
Relationships
- Rin Nohara — Former teammate and the person he loves. Her death drives his rejection of the world and his desire to create peace with her alive 111 206 272.
- Kakashi Hatake — Former teammate and recipient of his Sharingan. Obito blames him for Rin’s death, later defeats him and takes the eye back, but deliberately spares his life 206 259 268.
- Minato Namikaze — Former teacher turned enemy. Obito still acknowledges his charisma, intelligence, and strength while fighting against him 205 228 259.
- Madara Uchiha — Rescuer, mentor, and predecessor whose identity Obito adopts. Initial reverence gives way to distrust and an open struggle over their ambitions 205 259 265 271.
- Ning Feng / Uchiha Minato — An admired younger clansman and the greatest obstacle to his plan. Their hostility develops into a tactical alliance against Madara, without genuine trust 112 253 271 286.
- Black Zetsu — Collaborator and intermediary in recruiting Kabuto. Obito resents his orders and his claim to represent Madara’s will 200 270.
- Kabuto Yakushi — Helps him defect from Amegakure and supplies resources for Madara’s reincarnation. Kabuto later sides with Madara and uses Tobirama to stall Obito 200 201 275.
- Yagura — The Fourth Mizukage whom Obito controls and deploys against Ning Feng 111 143.
- Ōnoki — Prospective ally approached under Madara’s name; their shared inability to defeat Ning Feng becomes the basis for negotiations 193.
- Orochimaru — Assigned to coordinate with Obito during the Land of Rain’s counterintelligence effort, while openly questioning his intentions 286.
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Confrontation in Amegakure
- Attempts to ambush Ning Feng after identifying him as the obstacle responsible for eliminating his Kirigakure operatives 110 111.
- Finds his Kamui countered by teleportation, clones, Wood Release restraints, and Explosion Release: Rasenshuriken. The explosions shatter his mask 111.
- After hearing about the Uchiha Clan’s improved position, praises Ning Feng and leaves him the Gunbai as a gift 112.
- Subsequently observes Ning Feng from the shadows at the Ten Kage Summit 118.
Attack During Kushina’s Delivery
- Prepares to exploit the weakening Nine-Tails seal during Kushina’s childbirth, but encounters defenses established in anticipation of his arrival 111 140 141.
- Is outmaneuvered by Ning Feng’s clones and Sage Mode Susanoo. Yagura and the Seven Ninja Swordsmen arrive as reinforcements, only to be destroyed 142 143.
- Is surrounded by Konoha’s leading shinobi, while Ning Feng kills his insider among the Uchiha maintaining the Nine-Tails barrier 143 144.
- After the failed attack, suffers another defeat when Ning Feng uses Kakashi’s newly mastered Kamui to send destructive objects and Rasenshuriken into his dimension 151.
Kirigakure and the Search for Allies
- Is suspected by Ning Feng of arranging the Kirigakure attack on Nagato 178.
- Nearly exhausts Kamui under Ning Feng’s continuous bombardment and demands negotiations 181.
- Escapes the path of Tengai Shinsei through his spatial technique as Kirigakure faces the meteor 183.
- Approaches Ōnoki as “Madara Uchiha,” admits that he cannot defeat Ning Feng alone, and offers his White Zetsu resources 193 194.
Madara’s Return and the War
- Extracts Kabuto and stolen reincarnation materials from Amegakure, then provides access to Madara’s preserved corpse and White Zetsu vessels 200.
- Witnesses Kabuto restore Madara in his youthful prime 201.
- Is relegated to operating as Madara’s shadow as the war begins, and directs attention toward eliminating Kakashi 206.
- Fights Minato and attempts to capture Kakashi. Later rescues Madara, unknowingly enabling Ning Feng to pursue them through a Flying Thunder God mark left on his body 228 253 254.
Dual Kamui and Betrayal
- Accepts Ning Feng’s proposal to recover his other Sharingan and eventually fight Madara alongside him 265.
- Defeats Kakashi, reclaims the eye, and rapidly adapts to Dual Kamui 268 269.
- Attacks Madara with long-range Kamui, but Limbo shadows absorb the strikes 271.
- Rejects Madara’s attempt to restore their partnership. Kabuto intervenes through Tobirama, whose attacks force Obito to unveil Susanoo 275 277 278.
- Is overpowered by Madara’s Perfect Susanoo until Ning Feng teleports inside his green giant to intervene 278.
- Cannot provide Ning Feng independent control of the Demonic Statue because Madara retains the decisive summoning authority 280.
Uneasy Cooperation
- Reports Madara’s informants and White Zetsu Spore Technique preparations throughout the Land of Rain 286.
- Is assigned to coordinate counterintelligence work with Orochimaru, though neither Orochimaru nor Ning Feng trusts his allegiance 286.
- Later arrives through a spatial fluctuation and is shocked to discover that Madara has already acquired Six Paths power 311.
