Arc 12The Battle for Campbell Island

Dunn won the Crown Prince Contest, returned to Campbell Island, and strengthened his rule while its people and factions faced growing strains. When Karagon attacked, Dunn and Pearl fought to defend the island and its Legendary Battleships, leaving Dunn pursuing Karagon as Prometheus recovered.

  • Dunn defeated Todd and then killed Damon in the arena, absorbing his soul and gaining his swordsmanship experience before being named the Crown Prince Contest winner.
  • Dunn escaped a United Navy inspection by knocking out the passengers and officers, then returned to Campbell Island and addressed unrest among the relocated Lionheart nobles and local factions.
  • Dunn refused the Lyon Empire’s offer to restore his fiefs, accepted payment for the territories, and trained until Annie told him Kane was about to ascend.
  • Kane left the ranks of lesser races after revealing that Minotaurs had been murdered, and Dunn agreed to care for those who remained before sending most of them into the Storm Sea.
  • Karagon arrived at Campbell Island, and Dunn and Pearl fought him as Annie evacuated the island’s ships and organized the Legendary Battleships.
  • Karagon severely wounded Dunn and Pearl with his Shadow Authority, but the battleships’ cannons forced him to withdraw before he could finish them.
  • Dunn awakened his Soul-Soul Fruit and created Prometheus, whose explosion devastated Campbell Island and badly wounded Karagon, though both survived.
  • Dunn kept Karagon from escaping while Prometheus recovered, then followed him toward the Polaris and cried, “Heavenly Fire!”

Ch. 276The Crown Prince Contest Begins!

Dunn and Annie accompanied Lace to the Crown Prince Contest at Rock Arena, where rival princes and their Limit Breakers gathered. After Dunn ignored the ninth prince and Annie traded insults with a burly Limit Breaker, [Blade Ghost] arrived and exchanged a look with Dunn.

  • Lace joined Dunn and Annie in their carriage and warned Dunn that he should not have come because [Blade Ghost] was coming for him.
  • Dunn, Annie, and Lace arrived at the crowded Rock Arena and took their seats in the Main Viewing Stand.
  • Lace greeted the third, fifth, and ninth princes, while the ninth prince tried to speak with Dunn and Dunn ignored him.
  • Annie challenged a burly Limit Breaker who mocked Dunn, and the man threatened to deal with her after the contest.
  • The seventh prince arrived with [Blade Ghost], who turned and looked toward Dunn.

Ch. 277At daggers drawn

Dunn and Damon, the [Blade Ghost], clashed in the main stand, and Damon’s attempted attack was stopped after Dunn suppressed his blade intent with Conqueror’s Color Haki. The king’s arrival interrupted Damon just as he prepared to strike Dunn.

  • Damon’s probing gaze injured Dunn’s eye, but Dunn reversed the wound and answered Damon’s taunts with insults of his own.
  • Damon released killing intent and blade energy, frightening the princes and others in the main stand as he prepared to attack Dunn.
  • Dunn unleashed his enhanced Conqueror’s Color Haki, which onlookers mistook for Dragon Might, and suppressed Damon’s blade intent.
  • Damon recovered, manifested his long blade, and blasted a hole through the roof as he prepared to swing at Dunn.
  • A cry announcing the king’s arrival forced Damon to halt his attack.

Ch. 278Drawing lots

The old king calmed the confrontation between Damon and Dunn, then officially opened the Crown Prince Contest. The princes drew lots for their matchups, leaving Damon with a bye and Dunn paired against Todd.

  • The old king arrived at the viewing stand, and Damon and Dunn set aside their conflict at his request.
  • A court Wizard restored the damaged roof while the arena host reassured the crowd and the protective barrier activated.
  • The old king declared the Crown Prince Contest open.
  • The princes drew lots and gave Damon a bye, as no one wanted to face him after his clash with Dunn.
  • The draw paired Dennyse against Parmos and Dunn against Todd, who regretted provoking Dunn.

Ch. 279Tiger Roar Fist

Dunn faced Todd in the Crown Prince Contest and effortlessly overcame his Tiger Roar Fist with Black Vortex. The chapter left Dunn holding Todd by the neck and slamming his head toward the ground.

  • Denise and Pamos fought an exhibition match, and Pamos won.
  • Annie taunted Todd and refused to let him withdraw, while the Thirteenth Prince warned her to be careful.
  • Dunn and Todd entered the arena, where Todd stayed guarded as Dunn urged him to attack.
  • Todd unleashed his Martial Art, Tiger Roar Fist, but Dunn absorbed the tiger with Black Vortex.
  • Dunn pulled Todd into his grasp, clamped his neck, and slammed his head toward the ground.

Ch. 280Your turn!

Dunn killed Todd in the Arena by repeatedly smashing his head into the ground, alarming the princes with the possibility that he could overturn the crown prince contest. He then challenged Damon, blocked his attack with the Black Umbrella, and exchanged taunts with him.

  • Dunn drained Todd's Qi and battered him until Todd died, despite Todd trying to surrender.
  • The princes feared Dunn's strength could secure victory for the Thirteenth Prince, but Damon dismissed Dunn's ability as a sealing method with a weakness.
  • Dunn pointed at Damon and beckoned him to fight.
  • Damon charged at Dunn with Man and Blade as One, but Dunn blocked the strike with the Black Umbrella.
  • Damon said he had underestimated Dunn, and Dunn replied that he had overestimated Damon.

Ch. 281Martial Arts

Dunn fought Damon in the arena, relying on Super-Speed Regeneration to endure his attacks, but Damon recognized Dunn’s lack of martial arts skill and pressed that advantage. The chapter left them facing off again, with Damon attacking after identifying Dunn’s weakness.

  • Damon’s Blade Qi cut Dunn repeatedly, but Dunn’s wounds healed instantly, revealing his Super-Speed Regeneration.
  • Damon backed away to assess how to kill Dunn, while Dunn taunted him and charged with Night Feather.
  • Damon and Dunn exchanged dozens of blows, and Dunn abandoned defense because his wounds healed as long as his heart remained unharmed.
  • Damon pulled away and realized Dunn’s martial arts were weak, then attacked again to exploit that flaw.
  • Dunn recognized Damon’s assessment was correct, since he had relied on attributes and abilities rather than developing combat techniques.

Ch. 282Fierce battle

Damon used his footwork to suppress Dunn, but Dunn countered with Black Vortex, the Black Umbrella, and a rain of blood. Damon revealed that he had anticipated Dunn’s perception ability and let Dunn attack, then ran his blade through Dunn’s chest.

  • Damon changed to close-quarters footwork, evaded Dunn’s attacks, and repeatedly cut him, frustrating Dunn despite his [Future Sight].
  • The princes reacted to Damon suppressing Dunn, while Parmos and Dennyse explained that Dunn’s Super-Speed Regeneration made him difficult to defeat but his youth left him short on combat experience.
  • Dunn used Black Vortex to force Damon aside, then sent a Blood Orb skyward and used the Black Umbrella to delay Damon before unleashing a rain of blood.
  • Dunn charged Damon with an Umbrella Blade thrust enhanced by Armament-Ryuo, but Damon’s blade pierced Dunn’s chest instead.
  • Damon told Dunn that he had recognized Dunn’s perception ability and had deliberately let him attack, then withdrew his blade from Dunn’s chest.

Ch. 283Overwhelming with Strength

Dunn revealed that he had hidden his heart elsewhere and transformed after Damon’s blade pierced his chest, then seized the initiative with overwhelming strength. He trapped Damon inside black fog and continued attacking, but Damon held his ground with skillful bladework, leaving Dunn puzzled by how he could withstand the force.

  • Damon stabbed Dunn in the chest, but Dunn revealed he had secretly moved his heart and grabbed the blade.
  • Dunn transformed, sprouting bat wings, and chased Damon after he abandoned his weapon, wounding him and manipulating his spilled blood into an orb.
  • Dunn took Damon’s Transcendent blade and declared he would rely on raw strength rather than sparring to improve his combat skills.
  • The princes watched Dunn’s transformation, and Parmos recognized him as a Peak Limit Breaker who surpassed Damon in attributes and energy.
  • Dunn covered the Arena in black fog and attacked Damon, who defended himself with a backup blade and precise technique.
  • Damon blocked Dunn’s powerful claw strike without moving, prompting Dunn to wonder whether he was releasing stored force through a special technique.

Ch. 284Martial Dao True Intent

Dunn used his Boiling Blood Technique to corrode Damon's Blade Qi and wear him down, forcing Damon to unleash his Martial Dao True Intent. Dunn discovered the manifested Blade Intent masked his [Future Sight], then evaded Damon's attack and appeared behind him.

  • Dunn sent corrosive boiling bloodlines at Damon while attacking from the black fog, gradually weakening Damon's defenses and preventing him from building up force.
  • Damon decided he had to end the battle immediately and manifested his Blade Intent as a three-headed, six-armed evil ghost over ten meters tall.
  • Damon's Martial Dao True Intent blew away the surrounding black fog and struck Dunn, whose [Future Sight] failed to perceive the attack.
  • Dunn transformed into a pool of blood, moved along the bloodlines, and appeared behind Damon through his shadow while Damon watched the spot where Dunn had been.

Ch. 285Eat him!

Dunn defeated Damon by turning his blade against him and impaling him with blood spikes, then absorbed his soul. Damon’s soul stirred an unusual hunger in Dunn, who ate it.

  • Damon trapped Dunn in an overwhelming blade-intent attack that tore apart his body and slowed his recovery.
  • Damon thrust at Dunn’s exposed heart, but Dunn’s living blade twisted around and pierced Damon.
  • Dunn used blood spikes to impale Damon, then regenerated while Damon remained conscious and spoke of his old injury from facing the Broodmother.
  • Damon died, and Dunn retrieved his blood and absorbed his soul.
  • Dunn sensed that Damon’s soul was different and, overcome by hunger, put it into his mouth and ate it.

Ch. 286Blade Dao Master Dunn

After defeating Damon, Dunn absorbed his soul and gained Damon's memories of swordsmanship, becoming a Blade Dao Master while resisting the shortcut to True Intent. The crowd celebrated his victory in the Crown Prince Contest, as the four princes faced death and the kingdom’s powerful figures abandoned thoughts of studying his ability.

  • Dunn absorbed Damon's soul, discarded most of his memories, and retained his swordsmanship experience, unleashing Blade Intent.
  • The four princes realized Dunn's victory meant their deaths, while Prince Lace celebrated; Parmos and Dennyse wondered whether Dunn had reached the Intent Realm.
  • The Rock Kingdom Sword Saint recognized Damon's Blade Intent in Dunn, but warned Tasl ov and Barbara not to covet the ability because a High Legendary Wizard stood behind Dunn.
  • Dunn became a Blade Dao Master near the pinnacle of the Blade Intent Realm and chose to cultivate toward his own Martial Dao True Intent rather than inherit Damon's directly.
  • The host announced Mr. Donald as the Crown Prince Contest winner and congratulated the Thirteenth Prince, as the arena crowd chanted Dunn's alias.

Ch. 287The journey home

Dunn and Annie sailed toward the Storm Sea while the United Navy searched ships for Dunn, the Pirate King it had been ordered to apprehend. After a Young Faction officer began inspecting their passenger ship, Dunn remained confident that the navy’s last chance to catch him was running out.

  • A United Navy officer rejected the passenger ship captain’s bribe and ordered all passengers and crew onto the deck for inspection.
  • The officer warned the passengers that the search aimed to capture a Pirate King who had infiltrated the Old World, and that the orders came from Joint Naval Headquarters.
  • Dunn and Annie discussed the navy’s repeated inspections and their approaching entry into the Storm Sea.
  • Dunn recalled how he had helped Lace secure the crown prince position before leaving the Rock Kingdom, where Legendary figures had quietly ensured his departure.

Ch. 288The journey home 2

Dunn and Annie were exposed while traveling by ship, so Dunn incapacitated the naval crew and took control of the vessel. They entered the Storm Sea with their wealth and resources, while the surviving officer reported the encounter too late for the United Navy to intercept them.

  • A woman recognized Dunn and Annie, and the naval officer realized they were the targets he had been hunting.
  • Dunn used Conqueror's Color Haki to knock out everyone aboard both ships except the passenger ship's sailors.
  • Dunn ordered the sailors to move the unconscious passengers and naval personnel onto the warship, then had the passenger ship head toward the Storm Sea.
  • Dunn and Annie emptied their Spatial Items into the passenger ship's hold, which they had cleared of cargo and supplies.
  • The passenger ship entered the Storm Sea, and the naval officer later woke aboard the warship and reported Dunn's escape to Joint Naval Headquarters.

Ch. 289Inner circle

Dunn returned to Campbell Island, where his inner circle gathered to discuss matters that had accumulated while he was away. The meeting began with concerns over relocated Lionheart Kingdom nobles and their growing resentment toward their unsettled living conditions and conflicts with island residents.

  • Campbell Island’s harbor was locked down as important figures gathered to welcome Dunn, whose arrival stunned the watching residents and pirates.
  • Dunn instructed his subordinates to unload the ship’s cargo, then returned to Campbell Mansion with Annie.
  • Dunn met with his inner circle and asked what had happened during his absence.
  • Hoffman reported that relocated Lionheart Kingdom nobles were dissatisfied with their temporary arrangements and clashing with Campbell Island residents.
  • Krigon explained that the nobles’ resentment stemmed from leaving the prosperous Old World and lacking a proper settlement, and said they needed to be placated.

Ch. 290Pearl's submission

Dunn handled island business, including an offer of goodwill from the Lyon Empire, then met Pearl privately. After Pearl tested Dunn's newly acquired blade intent and realized Dunn surpassed him, Pearl submitted to him.

  • Annie volunteered to handle Mr. Krigon's concerns, and Dunn told her to placate them for now.
  • Hoffman told Dunn that an envoy from the Lyon Empire had come to offer goodwill, and Dunn agreed to meet them later without openly siding with them.
  • After the meeting ended, Dunn called out Pearl, who appeared and asked whether the rumors about Dunn's exploits were true.
  • Pearl attacked Dunn with his pipe, but Dunn stopped him and revealed blade intent strong enough to make Pearl stumble back.
  • Pearl sensed something familiar in Dunn's blade intent, and Dunn silently discouraged him from asking about it.
  • Pearl bowed to Dunn and vanished, acknowledging Dunn's superior strength.

Ch. 291Pay-to-win cultivation

After Pearl submitted to Dunn, Dunn accepted the Lyon Empire’s offer of ten million gold coins for the Campbell territories and used his new wealth to advance his cultivation. His training was interrupted when Annie reported that Kane was about to advance, possibly to Legendary.

  • Pearl submitted wholeheartedly after Dunn’s strength surpassed his, easing Dunn’s worries about him.
  • The Lyon Empire offered to restore the Campbell fiefs and elevate Dunn’s title if he returned, but Dunn refused to tie himself to the empire.
  • Dunn accepted ten million gold coins from the Lyon Empire in exchange for the Campbell territories, including the gold mine.
  • Dunn bought magic potions and, in under half a year, raised every attribute except willpower and charisma to thirty points while training his blade intent.
  • Annie interrupted Dunn’s blade meditation to tell him that Kane was about to advance, and Dunn realized Kane might be becoming a Legendary.

Ch. 292Kane's Ascension

Dunn learned that Kane chose to ascend to Legendary after Minotaurs were murdered, believing that only a change in their status could protect his people. Kane entrusted the Minotaurs to Dunn, then ascended and was taken away by his race's creator.

  • Dunn visited Kane in the Minotaur settlement and asked why he was in such a hurry to ascend.
  • Kane revealed that seventeen Minotaurs, including two children, had been murdered, and said he had killed the perpetrators.
  • Kane explained that the Minotaurs would remain vulnerable as a lesser race and refused Dunn's offers to protect or relocate them.
  • Dunn accepted that Kane would not be persuaded and agreed to care for the Minotaurs.
  • A giant phantom Minotaur bellowed as a rift opened in the sky and a colossal hand took Kane away, marking the Minotaurs' departure from the ranks of lesser races.

Ch. 293Internal disputes

A year after Kane was taken away by a High Legendary Wizard, Dunn managed growing tensions between the pirate faction and the Knight Order on Campbell Island. Just as he decided to have Annie warn Krigon over the Knight Order’s attempt to claim the Legendary Battleships, Dunn sensed a hostile Legendary approaching from the sea.

  • Dunn had Green lead most of the Minotaurs into the Storm Sea, keeping only some high-ranking guards behind.
  • Annie told Dunn that the Knight Order and pirate crews had clashed again over limited land, resources, and influence on Campbell Island.
  • Annie reported that four Legendary Battleships had been completed and funds remained for no more than two more.
  • Annie said the latest clash began when members of the Knight Order reached for the Legendary Battleships, and Dunn ordered her to have Krigon warned.
  • Dunn told Annie to teach Krigon a lesson if he was directing the Knight Order’s actions, and she eagerly agreed.
  • Dunn sensed a hostile Legendary rapidly approaching through the sea and felt that it could threaten his life.

Ch. 294A Legendary Attacks

Dunn and Pearl confronted Karagon, who attacked Dunn after concluding that the Legendary Wizard supposedly backing him was in poor condition. Dunn blocked Karagon’s opening strike with the Black Umbrella, but Karagon’s Legendary Pressure left both Dunn and Pearl in grave danger.

  • Annie sensed the approaching malice and flew to warn everyone to leave the island while Dunn and Pearl stayed behind.
  • Dunn hurled a blood-red spear at the approaching enemy, then recognized Karagon when he reached the shore.
  • Karagon said he believed Dunn’s Legendary Wizard backer was in poor condition, and Dunn resolved that killing Karagon could hide the truth.
  • Karagon attacked Dunn with a finger strike, but Dunn used Future Sight to block it with the Black Umbrella.
  • Pearl joined Dunn and warned that Karagon’s Legendary Pressure could leave them vulnerable to being killed in one strike.

Ch. 295Pearl's ability

Dunn and Pearl fought Karagon, using Conqueror's Color Haki to counter his Legendary pressure. After Pearl revealed a devastating new ability that split the island, Karagon turned his attention to eliminating him first.

  • Dunn and Pearl discovered that Conqueror's Color Haki could cancel Karagon's Legendary pressure and challenged him.
  • Karagon summoned a glowing dagger and attacked Dunn and Pearl with more than a dozen duplicates.
  • Dunn used Future Sight, Armament Haki, and two blades to withstand Karagon's attacks, surprising him with his strength.
  • Pearl abandoned his pipe and struck the air with glowing fists, blasting away Karagon's duplicates and splitting the island with a fissure.
  • Karagon recognized Pearl's new ability as a threat and decided to eliminate him before Dunn.

Ch. 296Battling a Legendary

Pearl used the Tremor-Tremor Fruit to fight Karagon, who revealed his speed and shadow attacks against him. Dunn saved Pearl and restored his severed arm, then told him to stop holding back; Pearl tilted Campbell Island with a powerful tremor, but Karagon remained steady.

  • Pearl used the Tremor-Tremor Fruit to destroy two of Karagon's doubles and draw Karagon's attention.
  • Karagon ambushed Pearl, who blocked his first strike but lost an arm while escaping the dagger hidden in the shadow.
  • A second shadow attacked Pearl, but Dunn blocked it with his umbrella and restored Pearl's arm with his regeneration ability.
  • Dunn told Pearl to fight without restraint, and Pearl seized the air and tilted Campbell Island with a tremendous tremor.
  • Karagon dismissed Pearl's attack and remained balanced despite the shaking island.

Ch. 297Shadow Kill

As Campbell Island capsized, Annie ordered the ships and Legendary Battleships into position and froze Krigon after he challenged her command. Meanwhile, Karagon unleashed his Legendary [Shadow Kill] ability against Dunn and Pearl, striking them with thousands of shadowy figures.

  • Annie ordered most ships to flee and assigned the Legendary Battleships to Valentin, Eileen, and Carter.
  • Krigon demanded command of the [Polaris], but Annie struck him with lightning and froze him when he persisted.
  • Pearl destroyed Karagon's last Clone while Dunn held Karagon off in direct combat.
  • Karagon tore open a Spatial Rift with his dagger, forcing Dunn to retreat and recognize the danger.
  • Karagon activated his [Shadow] Authority, vanished from Dunn and Pearl's sight, and attacked them with the Thousand Shadow Instant Prison Kill.

Ch. 298Prometheus

Dunn survived Karagon’s attack and returned to the battlefield to keep him from reaching the four Legendary Battleships. After Dunn let Karagon capture him, he called out to Prometheus.

  • Karagon’s attack breached Dunn’s defenses and left both Dunn and Pearl gravely injured, but they survived.
  • Karagon approached Dunn to finish him off, then vanished when four Legendary Battleships fired their main cannons at the island.
  • Dunn carried Pearl out of the bombardment’s range, then returned to confront Karagon and prevent him from taking the battleships.
  • Dunn used [Future Sight] to evade several attacks, but Karagon eventually stabbed him through the chest and dragged him down.
  • Dunn wrapped his arms around Karagon and roared, “Prometheus!”

Ch. 299Awakening

Dunn revealed Prometheus, a powerful Fire Element Homies created after the Soul-Soul Fruit awakened, and used its self-detonation to devastate Karagon and destroy Campbell Island. Karagon survived but was gravely injured, and Dunn pursued him to prevent him from escaping until Prometheus recovered.

  • Dunn's awakened Soul-Soul Fruit allowed him to create Prometheus, a Homies with the power of a living Legendary Spell.
  • Dunn revealed Prometheus above Karagon, and the Homies detonated in a blast that melted away more than half of Campbell Island.
  • Seawater flooded the battlefield, weakening the explosion, and both Dunn and Karagon survived as the island vanished and a whirlpool formed.
  • Karagon emerged severely wounded and pursued Dunn, who flew overhead and mocked him.
  • Dunn decided to keep Karagon occupied and prevent his escape until Prometheus could recover and attack again.

Ch. 300A Desperate Gamble

Dunn pursued the gravely wounded Karagon while waiting for Prometheus to recover, but Karagon raced toward the Polaris to force Dunn to protect his Legendary Battleships and expose an opening. When Dunn finally dove to attack him, Karagon turned and unleashed a deadly counterattack.

  • Dunn kept his distance from Karagon as Prometheus began gathering fire Elemental Power to recover.
  • Karagon realized that Dunn was waiting for Prometheus and warned that the sun would need at least three minutes to recover.
  • Karagon raced toward the Polaris, intending to threaten Dunn's four Legendary Battleships and draw him into a vulnerable attack.
  • Dunn followed Karagon and used Bloodline attacks to slow him, but they had little effect.
  • As the Polaris came into view, Dunn dove at Karagon, who turned to attack him with shadowy tendrils.
  • Dunn cried, "Heavenly Fire!"
