Ch. 81Contract

After a Legendary Wizard confronted Dunn and vanished when the Silver Mirror caught his attention, Dunn decided to accept the Eye of the Firmament’s offer. He signed a River Styx Contract, which burned away as its two lights joined Dunn and the Silver Mirror, sealing the agreement.

  • The Legendary Wizard examined Dunn’s Career Card and considered killing him, but disappeared when the Silver Mirror drew his attention.
  • Dunn recovered from the encounter, returned to the Captain’s Quarters, and resolved to sign the contract proposed by the Eye of the Firmament.
  • Dunn used his blood to awaken the Silver Mirror, which produced a parchment containing the River Styx Contract.
  • After confirming the contract’s terms, Dunn signed his name.
  • The parchment burned to ashes, and its two rays of light merged with Dunn and the Silver Mirror, sealing the contract.

Ch. 82One Hundred Thousand Gold Coins

Dunn met a fragment of the Eye of the Firmament's consciousness, learned the Silver Mirror could protect him from ordinary Legendary divination, and asked for help becoming Pirate King. The Eye quoted a price Dunn could not afford: one hundred thousand gold coins for a Legendary to intervene.

  • The Eye of the Firmament appeared in Dunn's consciousness space and recognized him as Wei Sheep.
  • The Eye explained that Dunn's Devil Fruit was an accompanying secret treasure and that the activated Silver Mirror could shield him from ordinary Legendary divination.
  • Dunn asked the Eye to hold off the Legendary behind the Pirate King so he could advance, but the Eye said it could not intervene personally.
  • The Eye offered to arrange another Legendary's intervention for one hundred thousand gold coins and said Dunn would owe most of his Pirate King income afterward.
  • Dunn realized he had only forty to fifty thousand gold coins' worth of wealth, much of it in resources, and could not afford the intervention.

Ch. 83The Soul-Soul Fruit

After resolving his recent problems through the exchange list, Dunn drew and ate the Soul-Soul Fruit, gaining soul-manipulation powers and new abilities. He realized he could use it to empower his fleet, but first needed souls to create Homies.

  • Dunn studied the Eye of the Firmament’s exchange list and concluded that he had to save his wealth to secure help from a Legendary powerhouse.
  • Dunn drew the Soul-Soul Fruit with his Career Card and ate it.
  • The Soul-Soul Fruit raised Dunn’s Intelligence and Perception, locked his Charisma at 1, and granted him Fear Aura and the ability to manipulate souls.
  • Dunn gained Future Sight through his transcendent perception and realized the Soul-Soul Fruit could turn his ships into powerful Homies when combined with Animated Fleet.
  • Dunn recognized that he needed souls to make Homies for his ships.

Ch. 84The line he would not cross

As a prolonged storm threatened to destroy the fleet, Annie urged Dunn to sacrifice subordinates to gain souls for his Soul-Soul Fruit, but he refused to kill them for his own power. When a pirate spotted an island, Dunn ordered the fleet to follow the Black Pearl toward it, while Annie searched for a safe landing site.

  • Annie told Dunn that the storm would soon sink the fleet's remaining ships and urged him to use pirates as materials to obtain souls.
  • Dunn recalled refusing Annie's earlier proposal to kill subordinates, saying he would not cross that line even to reduce the fleet's losses.
  • Dunn told Annie that killing his crew for an arbitrary reason might mean abandoning her for his own advancement, leaving her speechless.
  • A pirate reported that an island lay ahead, and Dunn ordered the other ships to follow the Black Pearl toward it.
  • Dunn asked Annie to find a safe landing site while he continued guiding the fleet through the storm.

Ch. 85Rest and regroup

Dunn’s fleet took shelter on an uncharted island near the Talal Main Route, and Dunn decided to use it as a temporary base while the storm passed. He assigned the crew to rest and prepare for surveying the island, and arranged to collect the Boll Family’s gift later.

  • Dunn organized the fleet’s landing, established a rough camp, and took charge of guarding it while the exhausted crew rested.
  • Annie told Dunn that the island was three to five days from the Talal Main Route and that the weakening storm might last two or three more days.
  • Dunn and the officers agreed that entering the route with such a large fleet could provoke [Bewitching Flame]’s powerful admirers, so Dunn chose to split the fleet and develop from the island base.
  • Dunn ordered Lewis to relieve Hans and the other ship guards, assigned Hawkins to defend the camp, and told Hoffman and Green to survey the island once the storm ended.
  • Annie told Dunn that the Boll Family’s gift was ready, and Dunn arranged for it to be delivered to a nearby island for later collection.

Ch. 86Village

After the storm, Dunn and Annie organized repairs and construction as their pirates began establishing a base on the island. Hoffman discovered a village of native islanders, and Dunn led the group to observe it before deciding what to do about its residents.

  • Dunn assigned the pirates to repair their ships, fell trees, and prepare the island for a permanent base.
  • Hoffman reported that native residents lived on the opposite side of the island, sheltered in a gorge.
  • Hoffman led Dunn and the others to a hillside overlooking the village, where Green was watching the residents.
  • Dunn used Observation Haki and sensed that the village's hundred or so residents were ordinary people.
  • Dunn said they should visit the village first, since its presence would affect their plans for the base.

Ch. 87A place to stay

Dunn, Annie, and Hoffman entered a village and secured lodging in an abandoned house while Dunn investigated why the villagers seemed unusual. Their discussion was interrupted when they saw several children tormenting a filthy little girl who had fled into a neighboring house.

  • Dunn asked the village chief to let the group stay, and the chief readily agreed.
  • A villager led Dunn, Annie, and Hoffman to a row of abandoned houses, where they cleaned one enough to live in.
  • Dunn said the village felt suspicious, and Hoffman noted that the chief had seemed strangely unconcerned about the strangers.
  • Annie suggested killing the villagers and using the canyon as a base, but Dunn did not agree.
  • Several older children chased and insulted a little girl, who dodged their stones and ran into the house beside Dunn's.

Ch. 88Transcendent Intelligence

Dunn, Annie, and Hoffman discovered that the abused village girl Monet possessed transcendent intelligence. Annie offered to adopt her, and Monet began considering the offer as she ate.

  • The village children pelted the house where the girl had taken shelter, then scattered when Dunn, Annie, and Hoffman came outside.
  • Dunn told Annie that he had sent Green and the others back to camp and warned his pirates to avoid the villagers.
  • Monet tried to steal Annie’s jerky, and Annie caught her, but Monet screamed and unleashed a powerful wave that knocked Annie and Hoffman into a wall.
  • Dunn recognized Monet’s transcendent intelligence, caught her when she tried to flee, and suppressed her power with Conqueror’s Color Haki.
  • Annie comforted Monet, learned that her parents were dead, and offered to adopt her; Monet eagerly ate the jerky Annie gave her.

Ch. 89The cave

Monet told Annie and Dunn how her awakened mental power had killed her parents and later villagers, leaving her exiled to survive by stealing. When Dunn asked about the incident that awakened her power, Monet remembered only being taken to a cave with her parents and the village chief, prompting Dunn and Hoffman to suspect the cave held the answer.

  • Monet explained that her mental power had awakened after a frightening incident and had accidentally killed her parents.
  • After Monet injured villagers and then killed those who tried to kill her, the villagers drove her into the wasteland, where she survived by stealing food.
  • Annie condemned the villagers, while Dunn asked Monet what had caused her awakening.
  • Monet said she could not remember the incident, but recalled entering a cave with her parents and the village chief.
  • Dunn and Hoffman suspected something was wrong with the cave, and Hoffman asked Monet whether she remembered where it was.

Ch. 90Demon

Dunn and his companions followed the Village Chief to a cave, where they discovered the villagers making blood sacrifices to the demon Pakanis. When Pakanis sensed Monet nearby, the Village Chief and the others turned toward the passage behind them.

  • Dunn agreed to bring Monet along and followed the Village Chief's group up the mountain with Annie and Hoffman.
  • Dunn's group entered a cave and found the Village Chief and villagers performing a ritual around a crude statue.
  • The villagers sacrificed live fish, and the demon Pakanis appeared through the statue to complain about their useless offerings.
  • The Village Chief told Pakanis that outsiders had arrived and promised to sacrifice them.
  • Pakanis sensed Monet's presence, and the Village Chief and villagers turned toward the passage behind them.

Ch. 91Demonization

Dunn and his companions discovered that the villagers were sacrificing to the demon Pakanis, so Dunn destroyed its stone statue. Pakanis’s remaining power demonized the villagers, and Dunn killed them with his Soul-Soul Fruit ability, leaving the Village Chief to defend Pakanis.

  • Dunn and Annie recognized the sulfurous smell around the statue as a sign of a demon, while Pakanis sensed Dunn’s Fear Aura and offered him eternal life in exchange for loyalty.
  • The Village Chief ordered the villagers to attack Dunn and his companions, but Dunn’s Fear Aura frightened them back.
  • Dunn struck the stone statue with a Haki-filled fist and shattered it, releasing Pakanis’s black mist into the villagers.
  • The black mist demonized the villagers, and Annie warned Dunn that the demonic presence could corrupt the island.
  • Dunn used his Conqueror’s Color Haki, Fear Aura, and Soul-Soul Fruit ability to extract the demonized villagers’ souls, but the Village Chief remained unaffected.
  • The Village Chief mourned the villagers and insisted that Pakanis had saved them from hunger, disasters, and invaders.

Ch. 92"God"

Dunn and the others witnessed a lightning bolt kill the Village Chief after he called Pakanis a god, exposing a mysterious force that seemed to punish the very idea of gods. After they escaped the cave, Monet regained her memories of the sacrifice that killed her parents.

  • The Village Chief called Pakanis the supreme god in the villagers’ hearts, and a lightning bolt struck him dead while leaving Dunn and the others unharmed.
  • Dunn realized that gods and even the concept of faith had been absent from the world, and wondered whether a hidden force forbade them.
  • Dunn told Annie and Hoffman to forget what they had seen, and the group left the cave with Monet still unconscious.
  • Monet woke, and Annie asked whether she was hurt.
  • Monet remembered that Pakanis had demanded her as a sacrifice, her parents had agreed, and her awakened power had killed them as she fled the ritual.
  • Dunn suspected the lightning had dispelled the negative energy that had obscured Monet’s memories.

Ch. 93Monet's career choice

Dunn settled his pirates in an abandoned village and experimented with using the villagers’ souls to create Homies. At a meeting, the group discussed Monet’s future career and worried that choosing a Wizard’s path would require sending her away to train.

  • Dunn sent Hoffman to bring the pirates to the village, then had them seal the cave shut and renovate their new home.
  • Dunn used the villagers’ souls to turn seventeen pirate ships into Homies and made several Homie soldiers, including one with Second-Tier strength.
  • Annie cared for Monet, and Dunn gave her a Career Card after Annie requested one.
  • Hoffman raised the question of Monet’s career, and Annie immediately proposed that she become a Wizard.
  • Hoffman and Dunn pointed out that they knew no Legendary Wizard and feared that a Wizard’s apprenticeship would separate Monet from them for years or decades.

Ch. 94Advancement

Dunn weighed Monet’s future class while building up his pirate crew and keeping its ships loyal through his Homie ability. The chapter ended with Green on the verge of completing his advancement to the third tier.

  • Hoffman urged Annie and Dunn to let Monet become a [Hypnotist], but Annie argued that a Wizard was far stronger, and Dunn postponed the decision because Monet was still young.
  • Dunn sent most of the Pirates out to earn money and demanded half of each ship’s haul, relying on his Homie pirate ships to keep them loyal and help with navigation.
  • Dunn sent Hoffman to sea after his efforts to recruit Monet repeatedly failed, while Annie continued spending time with her.
  • Dunn sensed energy rising in the village, and Annie recognized that Green was close to completing his advancement.
  • Green’s battle qi had nearly formed, making him likely to become the crew’s second conventional third-tier combatant.

Ch. 95Income

Dunn reviewed falling tribute income as his pirates’ attacks scared merchant ships away from the Talal Route, and ordered them to keep a lower profile to avoid drawing the Pirate King’s attention. After Annie told him his gift from the Boll Family had arrived on Bana Island, Dunn decided to go pick it up.

  • Annie reported that the captains had paid 1,300 gold coins in tribute this month, 500 fewer than the previous month.
  • Dunn recalled how the pirate ship Homie had escaped a third-tier professional and left him battered, emboldening his captains to attack more aggressively.
  • As merchants hired escorts and avoided the Talal Route, Dunn’s income fell, and he told Annie to warn the pirates to keep a lower profile.
  • Annie told Dunn that his gift from the Boll Family had arrived on Bana Island.
  • Dunn asked Annie to have Green watch the base and said they would go to Bana Island to collect the gift.

Ch. 96Bana Island

Dunn set sail from Harman Island aboard the animated [Black Pearl], whose ship spirit eagerly welcomed the voyage. They reached Bana Island, where Annie and Monet went ashore to collect a gift while Dunn and the Homies stayed aboard to avoid drawing attention.

  • Dunn assembled a small crew of Homies for the voyage, preferring their strength and loyalty to recruiting ordinary pirates.
  • The [Black Pearl] set sail with Dunn and the others aboard, and Black Pearl celebrated her first trip away from Harman Island.
  • Annie and Monet praised Black Pearl, while Black Pearl used ropes to lift Monet playfully and asked who deserved first and second place.
  • As the ship neared Bana Island, Dunn told Black Pearl to keep a low profile because the vessel's living appearance could attract notice.
  • Dunn sent Annie, Monet, and a few professional pirates ashore to collect a gift while he and the Homies remained aboard.

Ch. 97An unexpected windfall

Bored aboard the ship, Dunn used Observation Haki to discover a disguised merchant ship carrying five powerful third-tier classholders. He decided to pursue it with Annie, hoping to seize its valuable cargo and use the Boll Family’s new transcendent weapon, Night Feather.

  • Dunn sensed five powerful life forces aboard a merchant ship that had just entered the harbor and suspected it was hiding something valuable.
  • Annie took Monet sightseeing while Dunn stayed aboard, then hurried back after he contacted her with a warning.
  • Dunn told Annie that the merchant ship carried five classholders at least third tier and asked whether she recognized its insignia; she did not.
  • Dunn opened the Boll Family’s gift, a transcendent black umbrella he had named Night Feather, which could transform into a sword.
  • Annie warned Dunn that the ship’s powerful escort suggested a dangerous organization, but Dunn ordered the Homies to prepare to pursue it, determined to advance quickly.

Ch. 98Making a move

Dunn pursued a suspicious merchant ship far from Bana Island and attacked after its crew tried to pay him off. He outmatched the ship’s defenders, then appeared to be struck by an arrow before vanishing and impaling one of his opponents with [Night Feather].

  • Dunn ordered the [Black Pearl] to catch the fast merchant ship and told Annie and the others to stay out of the fight.
  • Dunn flew to the merchant ship, rejected its captain’s offer of a thousand gold coins, and identified the Classholders hidden among the crew and in the captain’s quarters.
  • Two third-tier Classholders attacked Dunn together, but he used [Night Feather] and Armament Haki to overpower them.
  • Three more third-tier Classholders joined the fight, and an arrow pierced Dunn’s chest as the first two attackers pressed their assault.
  • Dunn vanished after the attackers closed in, then drove [Night Feather] through one of them.

Ch. 99The kill

Dunn fought the merchant ship’s third-tier professionals while the [Black Pearl] bombarded their vessel. He killed the female archer and trapped the spearman in his blood manipulation, leaving the bespectacled spellcaster as his remaining opponent.

  • Dunn cleaved one third-tier professional in half and absorbed his blood as the other fled to the merchant ship.
  • The [Black Pearl] opened fire on the merchant ship, and the spearman deflected cannonballs while the bespectacled man identified Dunn as the [Blood Demon].
  • The spearman, female archer, and bespectacled man attacked Dunn together, while another professional raced across the sea toward the [Black Pearl].
  • Dunn evaded the archer’s enchanted arrows by appearing behind her and stabbed her through the heart.
  • Dunn hurled the archer’s corpse at the spearman, and it exploded, coating him in blood that burrowed into his body and erupted as sharp spikes.

Ch. 100Treasure

Dunn defeated the merchant ship’s crew and discovered a familiar treasure in a sealed box, prompting him to abandon the salvage and destroy the ship. He left with the [Black Pearl] at full speed toward the Storm Sea, grimly aware that the treasure posed a serious threat.

  • Dunn defeated the five third-tier professionals, killed the bespectacled man, and wiped out the remaining merchant crew.
  • Dunn had the Homies transfer valuables to the [Black Pearl] and searched the captain’s quarters for the ship’s secret treasure.
  • Dunn opened a sealed box with his blood and recognized the objects inside, then ordered everyone to abandon the merchant ship without taking anything.
  • Dunn ordered Black Pearl to destroy the merchant ship, which exploded and began sinking.
  • Dunn ordered Black Pearl to activate [Wave-Breaking Charge] and head into the Storm Sea at full speed.
