Personality
Jiang Chuyu is gentle, openly curious, and unusually trusting. He nearly believes Ye Yizhou's claim to be a vampire and initially mistakes his staged distress for genuine mistreatment. Ye considers him a decent person whose apparent lack of dating experience could leave him vulnerable to a bad first relationship 25 30.
His innocence does not prevent him from setting boundaries. He refuses gifts he considers too intimate, distances himself from an unwanted publicity pairing, and accepts responsibility for the backlash rather than blaming Ye's advice. Even while avoiding Song Jincheng's romantic overtures, he remains genuinely concerned when Song appears unwell 26 43 55.
Jiang also has a playful, self-deprecating streak. He cheerfully admits that accepting a watch from someone who already owns it would be a windfall, laughs at his own misunderstandings, and jokes about calling the wealthy Ye Yizhou “Daddy” 26 62 64.
Abilities & Skills
Observation and Puzzle-Solving
- Route recognition: Notices that the show's bus is taking an unfamiliar route by reading the names on roadside signs 40.
- Environmental reasoning: Points out that a bead-dropping sound could not have come from a carpeted hallway, then questions the corridor's inconsistent lighting 53 54.
- Clue detection: Finds the room's light control at a door labeled “I'm the light” 55.
- Mechanism deduction: Reasons that an apparently useless display-shelf mechanism must have changed something elsewhere, then discovers the exit beneath the carpet 58.
Composure and Initiative
- Safety awareness: Calmly asks everyone to stop moving after the lights go out so they do not accidentally hurt one another 53.
- Willingness to investigate: Approaches and touches the apparently moving statue himself, explaining that the others will have an easier time fleeing if something goes wrong 54.
- Limits: Sudden scares still frighten him; during the Mummy chase, he panics, trips over his own feet, and decides to remain on the floor for a rest 59 60.
Conversational Resourcefulness
- Indirect questioning: Confirms that the stretch limousine belongs to Ye by casually treating that ownership as established while chatting with the driver. The driver's reassuring reply supplies the answer without Jiang asking directly 64.
- Watch knowledge: Recognizes a luxury brand's latest limited-edition couples' watches and understands both their price and scarcity, despite being unable to afford them 25 26.
Relationships
- Ye Yizhou — Fellow show participant and a protective friend. Jiang defends him against criticism, while Ye privately resolves to keep Jiang from being hurt by an unsuitable first love. Jiang later acknowledges that Ye's advice partly influenced his decision to distance himself from Song 25 26 43.
- Song Jincheng — Promoted with Jiang as the “Goldfish” couple. Jiang rejects increasingly intimate gestures and explicitly describes them as “just friends”; Song's fans attack him for not reciprocating 40 43 50 60.
- Pei Lan — Fellow guest who checks on him after the castle chase and joins his joking discussion about attaching himself to Ye's wealth 61 64.
- Zhong Xi — Fellow guest who mocks Jiang's apparent fear during the escape room. Jiang ignores the provocation and continues examining the hallway 53.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Joining *The Red Thread of Love*
Jiang arrives as one of the show's six announced guests. Unlike participants who mock Ye Yizhou, he shows genuine interest in Ye's family businesses and concern about where Ye will sleep when only six rooms are available 20 24.
His fascination with Ye's wedding-gift watches leads to an awkward exchange with Song Jincheng. Jiang bluntly says Song probably cannot afford them and that couples' watches would be too intimate for their current relationship. He enthusiastically accepts the possibility of receiving one from Ye instead, but returns the box without disappointment when Ye refuses to give away that particular watch 25 26.
Rejecting the Publicity Pairing
As filming continues, Jiang stops maintaining the appearance of closeness with Song. He chooses a seat beside Ye rather than staying with Song and calmly anticipates the resulting hostile livestream comments. He tells Ye that he will bear the consequences of his own choice 42 43.
His rejection becomes especially conspicuous during the limousine journey. When Song offers him a peeled grape, Jiang claims to prefer eating grapes with their skins on—then hastily eats the discarded skins in front of him to support the excuse 50.
Castle Escape Room
Jiang contributes several important deductions during the castle game, but eventually falls while fleeing the Mummy. After recognizing the costumed pursuer as Ye, he admits that he stayed motionless because he was too tired to keep running. Ye ends his pursuit and escorts Jiang out by another route 53 55 58 60.
On the way out, Jiang admires the other NPC's voice but misunderstands Ye's description of him as a “partner.” Believing Ye is openly pursuing another man despite being married, Jiang repeatedly tries to stop him from making compromising declarations on the livestream. He is embarrassed to discover that the man is actually Ye's husband, Yan Qingdu 60 61 62.
After filming ends, Jiang helps the departing guests confirm that their limousine belongs to Ye. The driver's explanation of Ye's generosity prompts Jiang's joking proposal to call him “Daddy,” drawing laughter from the others 63 64.
