Waiting to Claim the Dead's Estate
The barren land stretches into the distance, seemingly without end.
The ground was composed of cooled rock layers, crisscrossed with cracks. Occasionally, withered shrubs stood scattered on the ground, their branches and leaves gray and lifeless. Lu Heng walked slowly forward, his aura low, his spiritual power slowly spreading outward, sweeping over the area in front of him little by little.
This world was eerily quiet; it was rare to encounter any living creature after walking for a long time. The remnant forest he had encountered earlier was one of the few places along his journey where life had lingered. He continued forward, not in a hurry, maintaining a steady pace with each step, keeping his mental perception calm and ready to detect any unusual activity.
Not long after, a commotion was heard in the distance.
A dense cluster of life signals intruded into the range of mental perception. They gathered together, moved rapidly, and created a chaotic and disorderly scene.
Lu Heng immediately stopped in his tracks.
He found a protruding rock nearby, pressed himself against it, and completely concealed his presence. He hid in the shadows, leaving only a sliver of his vision visible, looking in the direction the group had come from.
The group slowly approached, and their outlines gradually became clearer.
It's a Goblin team.
Lu Heng carefully examined the group and found that all the individuals in the team were below the Silver Tier.
Seeing this, Lu Heng made a judgment in his mind.
The relationship between Green Demon and the Goblin was far more complex than he had imagined.
The cacophony of shouts carried through the air, each word clearly audible.
"Hurry up, stop dawdling!"
"Go and collect taxes from that tribe right away."
"That Green Demon Tribe won't last much longer; they're almost all wiped out."
"Once they're all dead, this little territory will be ours."
"Resources are scarce to begin with; it's not worth us fighting them. We can just wait for them to die out on their own."
"Hurry up, don't delay."
Urging voices rang out repeatedly as the Goblin in the group pushed and shoved each other, hurrying towards their goal.
Lu Heng hid behind the rock, listening quietly to these words.
A sense of pity arose in my heart; these Green Demon were truly in a tragic situation.
They struggle to survive, clinging to their meager resources, only to become prey for others to harvest. In this world of dwindling resources and shrinking living space, all living beings are scrambling for what remains.
Lu Heng did not move.
He lay quietly behind the rock, his gaze fixed on the traveling Goblin caravan, silently observing this group of aliens who were eager to reap the benefits.
A hot wind swept across the rock face without making a sound. The group continued to move forward, their shouts and urging echoing intermittently across the empty wasteland.
Lu Heng remained hidden, refraining from making a move. He simply observed, keeping this information to himself.
In this dying Plane, there is not only fighting against external forces, but also scheming and plundering between different races.
The Goblin party gradually passed through the middle of their field of vision. They were preoccupied with the resources of the Green Demon Tribe and did not notice that behind the rocks, there was a visitor from another Plane.
Lu Heng waited until the group had gone far away and their scent had gradually faded from his senses before slowly exhaling.
He still didn't show himself, remaining hidden in the shadows, mentally processing everything he had just heard.
He had initially thought that the conflicts in this Plane were merely the desperate situation brought about by the living environment. Now he realized that beyond the heavy pressure of the environment, there was also such a cold layer of calculation between the alien races. There was no need to fight each other; they only needed to wait quietly, waiting for their opponent to exhaust their life force in scarcity, and then take over everything from the other side.
This method is even more ruthless than direct combat.
Lu Heng remained silent for a moment, but did not set off immediately.
He lingered there for a while, making sure there were no other hidden disturbances in the vicinity and that the Goblin group had gone far away and wouldn't return.
The barren land returned to its previous lifeless state.
The cacophony of roars just now was like a pebble thrown into stagnant water; once the ripples subsided, everything returned to silence.
He looked up in the direction the Goblin group had gone.
The Green Demon Tribe is silently heading towards its demise. They are struggling to survive with their meager resources, unaware that another alien race is waiting outside to take over their last territory.
Lu Heng slowly straightened up, still remaining vigilant.
His mental energy spread out again, carefully surveying his surroundings.
Only after confirming it was safe did he resume his steps and continue deeper into the Plane.
The road ahead remained an endless expanse of barren rocks and desolate earth. No one knew what kind of alien races they would encounter, or how many more of these cold, calculating schemes they would witness.
He simply moved forward steadily, the Star Blade resting quietly at his side, ready to deal with any unexpected changes.
He knew very well that coming to this Plane was an intrusion with no way out. Every race here was fighting desperately for survival, and their methods were ruthless.
What I just saw is merely the tip of the iceberg of the truth about this dying world.
The wind blew across the cracked rock layers, stirring up fine dust that settled on the ground. In the vast, desolate land, only the sound of his footsteps remained, slowly extending forward.
As Lu Heng walked, he mentally recalled the conversation he had just overheard.
The Goblin weren't in a hurry to start a war; they were just waiting for the Green Demon to destroy himself.
Resources are scarce, and every resource that can be utilized is worth waiting for patiently.
He silently noted down this information.
When he encounters Goblin and Green Demon again, he can no longer predict them with simple terms of fighting and confrontation. There are unexpected entanglements and calculations between them.
The sky remained a somber gray, devoid of sun and bright light. The entire land was shrouded in a somber hue, and all life struggled to survive.
Lu Heng's figure gradually blended into this boundless wasteland, continuing to walk deeper into the wilderness.
