Ranks and Variants

Rank / Variant Characteristics Combat Role
Black Iron Tier Numerous, disorderly fighters lacking the energy defense demonstrated by Bronze troops 379 387. Cannon fodder, charging attackers, and loosely organized encircling forces 379 387.
Bronze Tier / Bronze Elite Stronger and tougher than ordinary troops; capable of weapon use, coordinated positioning, patrols, and squad tactics 384 421 427. Shield bearers, weapon fighters, ambushers, and organized hunting squads 379 384.
Silver Tier Big Goblin Explicitly identified by the Wristband as an outstanding Green Demon specimen; nearly human-height and capable of mobilizing blood energy 379. Powerful frontline combatant and commander of Bronze Green Demons 379 381.

Appearance

  • Build: The first vanguards have hunched, scrawny bodies with withered-looking muscles; later groups include burly, thickset individuals 376 377 400 401.
  • Skin: Ordinary specimens have rough, grayish-blue skin. The Silver Big Goblin has thick, gray-green hide and heavily muscled limbs 377 379.
  • Eyes: Crimson or bloodshot eyes, with slit pupils described among the Withered Reed Plain groups 377 398 400.
  • Natural weapons: Sharp blackened claws and small, sharp fangs 376.
  • Blood: Dark green, visibly released when wounded 377 389.

Behavior and Organization

Green Demons hunt flesh-and-blood creatures and feed on their remains. Lu Heng distinguishes their behavior from ordinary predation: the first vanguards display cruelty, unprovoked malice, and a desire for slaughter beyond simply obtaining food. They shove, fight, and steal prey from one another while feeding 376.

Ordinary Green Demons attack with little concern for injury or self-preservation. Wounds can inflame their aggression rather than discourage them, and some continue charging after injuring themselves through their own reckless movements. This fearlessness is not universal: defeated groups flee, and one Green Demon cautiously retreats after detecting danger outside a Portal 377 382 387 411.

Elite squads have substantially greater discipline. They maintain spacing, cover flanks, alternate attacks, and strike vital points. Their coordination remains dependent on leadership: killing three Bronze leaders causes their squads to fragment into isolated, frenzied fighters. Severe losses can also drive elites to abandon tactics for reckless attacks 384 385 387 398.

Abilities & Skills

Close-Quarters Combat

  • Strength and speed: Even scrawny vanguards produce unexpectedly powerful lunges, collisions, claw strikes, and headbutts 377.
  • Relentless offense: Ordinary fighters willingly take wounds to close the distance, leaving little margin for error for an unprotected survivor 377.
  • Elite technique: Organized squads use feints, alternating assaults, encirclement, and attacks aimed at vital areas 384 385.
  • Limitations: Full-force swings can leave brief recovery openings. Joints, necks, waists, and abdomens are vulnerable where hardened skin is thinner 389 398.

Scent Tracking and Reconnaissance

  • Their keen sense of smell can pinpoint survivors concealed in mud or behind cover 378.
  • Bronze trackers investigate footprints, while organized groups establish patrol routes and temporary camps 386 387 421.
  • Dense woodland and pervasive fog restrict their scent tracking and charging attacks 378.

Energy Defense and Battle Formations

  • Bronze shield bearers can cover bone shields with a thin film of dark energy that dissipates much of an incoming crossbow bolt’s force 379.
  • This protection has limited endurance; repeated impacts can break the energy film and pierce the shield 379.
  • Under the Big Goblin’s command, Bronze troops form shield-and-weapon ranks linked by circulating blood energy 381.
  • Formations rotate wounded fighters backward, fill vacancies, and launch spear thrusts through gaps between shields. Their coordination is effective but imperfect 381.

Tactical Communication

  • Green Demon communication includes calls, commands, warnings, and battlefield signals refined through years of squad combat 386.
  • One documented warning means “enemy on the flank.” Lu Heng gains enough knowledge from an elite squad’s treasure chest to understand and imitate some signals 386.

Vulnerability to Blood Taisui

  • Blood Taisui’s mycelium can restrain Green Demons and drain their flesh, vital essence, and otherworldly energy 376 377.
  • Bronze individuals can break some restraining filaments through brute force; a limited binding does not necessarily immobilize them 389.
  • After its parasitic power matures, Blood Taisui can replace Black Iron and Bronze Green Demons’ wills while preserving their living bodies and physical capabilities 400.
  • Parasitized Green Demons follow Lu Heng’s commands, but the resulting puppet legion remains unable to overcome the Silver Tier gap through numbers alone 401 402.

Equipment

  • Bone blades and spears — Common elite weapons used for coordinated strikes and attacks through shield formations 381 384.
  • Heavy bone shields — Rough shields assembled from bone; Bronze bearers reinforce them with energy 379.
  • Bone armor — Worn by Green Demons converging in Frost Forest 387.
  • Leather armor — Worn by the eight-member elite squad that attacks the Wolf King’s pack 385.
  • Stone axes — Heavy weapons wielded by the four elites encountered on the Withered Reed Plain 398.

Relationships

  • Lu Heng — Enemy, combat assessor, and later controller of a parasitized Green Demon legion. He studies their fighting methods before defending Moonview Valley against organized attacks 377 379 400.
  • Wolf King and his pack — Prey targeted by an eight-member Bronze Elite squad; Lu Heng intervenes as the Wolf King covers the pack’s retreat 384 385.
  • Goblins — Fellow inhabitants or forces associated with the Green Demon Plane, but their exact racial and social relationship remains unresolved. Although the Big Goblin is explicitly classified as a Green Demon specimen, Lu Heng cannot determine whether Green Demons and other goblins are the same race, independent groups, or subordinates 379 404.
  • Goblin Warrior of the Withered Reed Plain — Treats Green Demons as lesser predators expected to respect its hunting dominance. It regards their massed, puppet-controlled assault as abnormal 401 402.
  • Mutant Bloodthirsty Vine — Shelters Green Demons and goblins within the Mist Forest’s Vine Nest, but later drains nearby individuals to restore its damaged roots 432 434.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Planar Invasion and the First Vanguard

The Green Demon Plane connects with the native plane during its ascension, beginning a regional invasion aimed at flesh-and-blood creatures and world resources. A defense contribution system rewards resistance to the otherworldly attackers 375.

Lu Heng encounters a feeding vanguard, captures it with Blood Taisui, and partially releases four Green Demons to test their close-combat abilities. He then has the mycelium devour the entire group; his Wristband records 24 Green Demon kills 376 377.

Regional reports reveal sharply different outcomes. Open terrain leaves Withered Plains survivors exposed, while swamp hazards and rocky chokepoints punish reckless charges. Lu Heng concludes that the scattered attackers are advance forces probing the native world’s defenses 378.

Assault on Moonview Valley

An organized force attacks Moonview Valley with Black Iron troops, Bronze shield bearers, and a Silver Big Goblin. The Bronze squad forms a coordinated battle array while its commander fights Lu Heng 379 381.

Lu Heng kills the Big Goblin using freezing restraint, mental pressure, and a point-blank shot from the Kiss of Nightmare. Absorbing its origin energy and blood essence advances Lu Heng, not the Green Demons, to Silver Tier. He and the valley’s defenses then eliminate the remaining squad 382.

Organization in Frost Forest

Eight Bronze Elites ambush the Wolf King’s pack. Lu Heng intervenes and uses the squad to practice his Goblin Battleaxe techniques and active blood-energy absorption before killing them 384 385.

Their treasure chest grants tactical language knowledge and reconnaissance experience. Subsequent scouting reveals patrols, assemblies, and temporary camps. Lu Heng later defeats a converging force of 24 Bronze and 42 Black Iron Green Demons, disrupting its coordination by killing its leaders 386 387.

A Teleportation Device guarded by a Goblin Mage continues producing Green Demons even as Lu Heng kills those already deployed 389.

Puppet Legion on the Withered Reed Plain

After killing four elites, Lu Heng uses Blood Taisui’s matured parasitic ability to subdue arriving reinforcements. Dozens of Black Iron fighters and more than ten Bronze Elites become a puppet legion, which grows further by absorbing stragglers during its march 398 400 401.

He sends the legion against a Silver Goblin Warrior. Despite its numerical advantage, the force can only wear down and entangle the superior opponent through heavy losses 401 402.

Mist Forest Campaign

When the regional Portal becomes unstable, Lu Heng hunts Green Demons and goblins in Mist Forest. He breaks a six-member Bronze formation with mycelium before killing its members with the Star Blade 427.

Deeper inside, he observes Green Demons and Goblin Warriors passing unharmed through a massive Bloodthirsty Vine’s nest. He infers that it conceals a transit route from the Green Demon Plane 432.

By the campaign’s aftermath, the invading force deployed into Mist Forest has been annihilated. Its losses include cultivated Elite Green Demon Squads and numerous goblin combat units, representing a substantial expenditure of the opposing plane’s resources and reserves 440.

Rewards and Drops

  • Defeated Green Demon groups can dissolve and leave Victorious Chests rather than permanent remains 385 387 398.
  • The eight-member Bronze Elite squad’s chest grants Green Demon tactical language knowledge, Bone-Patterned War Boots, and reconnaissance and camouflage experience 386.
  • The transformation of slain puppet Green Demons into treasure chests allows a Goblin Priest to deduce that a hidden third party is nearby 405.
