Violent jolts dragged Ling out of the deep darkness little by little.

His consciousness seemed to float on murky water, sometimes clear, sometimes blurred. A dull ache came from the properly immobilized fracture in his left arm, while his eyes felt as though scorching needles were piercing them over and over. Even with them tightly shut, he could feel the suffocating pain and intense swelling. His chakra network was empty, its dryness almost withered, and every faint circulation of energy brought a tearing pain.

He struggled to lift his heavy eyelids. Above him was a dim, swaying canopy, accompanied by the rhythmic vibrations of some large creature running. The faint smells of disinfectant and damp leather lingered in his nose, along with a trace of... a familiar, distinctive toad scent.

Was he... on a toad's back? Were they moving?

He turned his neck with difficulty, his vision gradually coming into focus. He lay on a makeshift stretcher lined with soft material, covered with a warm blanket. Not far away, Uzumaki Xi lay curled on another stretcher, still unconscious, but her complexion was much better than before and her breathing was steady. She had clearly received professional medical treatment. The Fifth Hokage, Tsunade, sat with her back to him near the toad's head, her blonde twin tails swaying gently with the jolts. She seemed to be resting with her eyes closed, but the powerful chakra fluctuations around her showed that she remained highly alert.

"Awake?" A slightly hoarse, lazy voice came from beside him.

Ling turned his head and saw Kakashi Hatate leaning against a raised structure on the toad's back, holding his copy of Icha Icha Paradise. Yet his one exposed eye was not on the pages, but regarding Ling thoughtfully.

"Kakashi... sir..." Ling's voice was as dry as scraping sandpaper.

"How do you feel?" Kakashi closed his book, came over, and crouched to check the splint on Ling's left arm and the condition of his eyes. "Lady Tsunade has already given you emergency treatment. The fracture will need time to heal, but it isn't a major problem. Your eyes are the main concern... you've severely overtaxed them. You overused your ocular power, and there's also backlash from some kind of... unusual yin release energy mixed in. Lady Tsunade said you need rest and observation. You absolutely must not use your ocular power again in the short term."

Ling nodded silently. He knew better than anyone the consequences of forcing the Eye of Purification and Erosion beyond its limits. The pain that seemed about to tear his very soul apart was still fresh in his memory. He tried using Inner Vision and found that the chakra pathways in his eyes were as fragile as though they had been scorched by fire. The newly formed, more complex pattern of his ocular power was also dull and lightless, lying dormant in an extremely unstable state.

"Where... are we?" Ling asked, his gaze sweeping over the rain-shrouded scenery racing backward around them. The rain seemed to have eased a little, but the sky remained gloomy.

"We're leaving the Land of Rain's border," Kakashi explained. "After you lost consciousness, Lady Tsunade and Lord Jiraiya held off that woman named Konan and the other Akatsuki members who arrived afterward-mainly Pain's other puppets-to give us an opening to withdraw. The Ryūmyaku's rampage intensified, throwing Amegakure into chaos. That occupied most of their attention, allowing us to get away safely."

Somewhat reassured, Ling asked again, "What about... Mr. Araki?"

Kakashi shook his head, a trace of regret flashing through his lone eye. "He had already fallen by the time we arrived. He was covering you while you destroyed the node..."

Ling closed his eyes. In his mind, he saw Araki drenched in blood, his lone eye still glaring furiously at Konan. A shinobi who had fought to the death for his homeland and convictions... A complicated feeling rose within him, carrying both respect and a heavy sense of responsibility. In a way, their actions had also carried on the last wishes of Land of Rain resistance fighters like Araki.

"Don't blame yourself." Kakashi seemed to see through his thoughts and patted his shoulder, avoiding his injured left arm. "You did more than enough. Destroying that node didn't just make our withdrawal possible. More importantly, it dealt a serious blow to Akatsuki's plans and delayed Pain's efforts to gain control of the Ryūmyaku, buying us precious time. This intelligence is priceless."

At that moment, Tsunade turned around from her seat ahead. A trace of fatigue showed on her face, but her gaze remained sharp. "You're a tough one to kill, kid."

"Thank you for coming to our rescue in time, Lord Hokage." Ling struggled to sit up and pay his respects.

"Lie still." Tsunade held him down and placed her fingers on his wrist. A pure, gentle stream of Yang Release probed his body, carefully examining his injuries, particularly his eyes. Her brows drew together slightly. "Your eyes are in an even more complicated state than I expected... it isn't just overexertion. There's also a residue of some... foreign energy that even I can't quite describe. It shares the same origin as that shard you provided before, but it's more active and... deeply embedded. Has this thing already begun merging with your ocular power?"

Ling's heart jolted. Knowing he could not hide it from this master healer, he answered frankly, "Yes. Underground in the Land of Rain, the situation was critical, and I had no choice but to channel the shard's power. It seems... to have caused some unknown changes in my Sharingan."

Tsunade withdrew her hand, considered for a moment, and said solemnly, "Whether this is a blessing or a curse remains to be seen. This fusion is beyond my understanding. The Uchiha kekkei genkai was mysterious enough already, and now there's this ancient energy of unknown origin... we'll have to be even more careful with your subsequent treatment and observation. Once we return to Konoha, you'll need a more comprehensive examination. Until we've established that it's safe, you are forbidden to use those eyes without authorization. Understood?"

"Yes, Lord Hokage," Ling replied respectfully. He knew Tsunade had his best interests at heart. The risks of this unknown power did indeed need to be strictly controlled.

"That girl," Tsunade said, pointing at the still-unconscious Xi, "is a descendant of the Uzumaki Clan. Her life force is very tenacious, but her vital reserves have been severely depleted. She'll need a long recovery. The intelligence she provided is extremely important. We must take the Ryūmyaku and Akatsuki's ultimate objective very seriously."

As they spoke, the enormous toad carried them across the Land of Rain's border and into the Land of Fire. Though the sky remained cloudy, the suffocating, ever-present rain and oppressive pressure on their senses finally disappeared. The air grew fresh, and sunlight occasionally spilled through gaps in the clouds, making it feel as though a lifetime had passed.

Watching the familiar scenery of the Land of Fire flash past outside the window, Ling finally relaxed completely after being on edge for so long, and overwhelming fatigue swept over him again. He knew returning to Konoha did not mean the danger was over. Quite the opposite: an even more complicated and arduous struggle against the enormous threat of Akatsuki had only just begun. But at least they had gained time to breathe and prepare.

He slowly closed his eyes, feeling the toad's steady running beneath him and the vitality slowly recovering within his body under the nourishment of Tsunade's Yang Release. Yet his mind involuntarily began reviewing every detail of this mission to the Land of Rain-

From infiltrating the Temple to rendezvous with "Late Autumn," to the near-hopeless crushing defeat at the hands of Deva Path Pain; from falling into the Underground River and struggling to survive against impossible odds, to discovering the imprisoned Uzumaki shrine maiden, Xi; from learning of the shocking conspiracy involving the Ryūmyaku and Akatsuki, to working with Araki to destroy the node; and finally, the unexpected evolution of the Eye of Purification and Erosion at the brink of death, drawing Konoha's reinforcements...

Every step had been fraught with danger, every decision a matter of life and death. He had witnessed the terrifying power of the Rinnegan and experienced the helplessness of facing an absolute disparity in strength. He had also felt the significance of comrades-even Araki, with whom he had only temporarily cooperated-and personally experienced the possibility of his own strength breaking past its limits in desperate circumstances.

The Eye of Purification and Erosion... the shard... the Ryūmyaku... Akatsuki... Pain...

These words circled in his mind like scattered puzzle pieces. He vaguely felt that he seemed to have been drawn into a vortex far greater and more ancient than he had imagined. The shard against his chest and those mutated eyes might not merely be tools or sources of power. They might connect to deeper secrets.

I had to grow stronger! Not just to protect myself, but to gain the ability to unravel these mysteries and face the harsher challenges ahead. Taijutsu, conventional ninjutsu, chakra control, and the deeper development of these eyes... there was still a long way to go.

While Ling was lost in thought, the toad gradually slowed. Ahead, the familiar outline of Konoha's gate was already in sight. Having received word, the guards and Medical Team were already waiting at the entrance.

"We're here," Kakashi said.

Tsunade stood and stretched, her usual brisk, decisive expression returning. "Prepare for the handover! Medical Team, prioritize the wounded! Kakashi, organize the intelligence department immediately. I want a preliminary analysis of this mission within half an hour! Notify all senior officials. There will be an emergency meeting in one hour!"

Orders were issued in rapid succession. With their return and the crucial intelligence they brought, Konoha's enormous war machine began operating efficiently.

Ling was carefully carried off the toad and placed on a stretcher prepared by the Medical Team. Xi was also awakened. Though weak, she was now lucid and could just about walk with support from the medical ninja.

As he passed through the Konoha Gate, Ling glanced back toward the Land of Rain, his gaze deep.

The storm in the Land of Rain had subsided for now, but the storm over Konoha-and perhaps the entire shinobi world-might only just have begun brewing. And he, Uchiha Ling, Konoha's Anbu "Crow," already stood at its forefront.

A new journey was about to begin.

Konoha Hospital, the highest-security Isolation Ward.

Ling was placed in a room with even tighter security and more comprehensive facilities than before. Beyond treating his fracture and restoring his chakra, the more important task was the continuous monitoring and study of his eyes. Several senior medical ninja directly subordinate to Tsunade formed a specialized team, using various precision instruments and sealing jutsu formulas to try to analyze the mechanism and potential risks of the strange energy fusion within his eyes.

The process was painstaking and meticulous, and Ling did everything he could to cooperate. He knew this concerned not only his own safety, but might also help Konoha build experience in dealing with similar unknown powers.

Xi was assigned the adjoining room, with Shizune personally overseeing her recovery. Her identity and the intelligence she possessed were critically important, and Konoha afforded her the highest level of protection and care.

An hour later, in the classified conference room on the top floor of the Hokage Building.

The atmosphere was so heavy it seemed almost tangible. The Fifth Hokage, Tsunade, sat at the head of the table. On either side were the advisers Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura, along with representatives of the core jonin, including Kakashi Hatake and Shikaku Nara. Jiraiya also made a rare appearance at the meeting, his expression grave.

Tsunade signaled for Kakashi to begin his report.

Kakashi rose and gave a clear, detailed account of the mission to the Land of Rain, focusing particularly on the information Ling and Xi had provided about Akatsuki's leader, Pain and his Rinnegan, the Ryūmyaku, and Pain's ultimate purpose in attempting to control it. He also reported the unknown mutation in Ling's eyes and the existence of the Mysterious Shard, with certain details obscured according to Ling's wishes.

As Kakashi spoke, the atmosphere in the conference room grew increasingly oppressive. The Rinnegan, the Ryūmyaku, an attempt to become the consciousness of natural energy... any one of these revelations would have been enough to shake the entire shinobi world, yet now they all pointed toward the same terrifying organization-Akatsuki!

"Has the situation... actually become this serious?" Utatane Koharu's voice carried a barely perceptible tremor.

"The consequences of the Ryūmyaku running wild-was what that Uzumaki shrine maiden said true?" Mitokado Homura asked, his brow tightly furrowed.

"Based on ancient records and on-site energy monitoring, it's highly likely," Jiraiya said gravely. His years of traveling had given him extensive knowledge. "If Pain truly succeeds, he'll command nearly limitless natural energy. The threat he poses... will far exceed that of any tailed beast."

"We must act immediately!" Tsunade declared firmly. "First, institute the highest alert level and designate Akatsuki and its leader, Pain, as the greatest threat to Konoha and the entire shinobi world! Second, activate every intelligence network and devote all efforts to gathering information on Akatsuki's members, bases, and anything related to the Ryūmyaku! Third, strengthen communication with our allied nations, share intelligence, and explore the possibility of a joint response! Fourth, establish a dedicated response team under my direct command. Kakashi, Shikaku, you will serve as core members responsible for developing specific countermeasures and operational plans!"

"Yes!" Kakashi and Shikaku Nara answered in unison.

"Fifth," Tsunade's gaze swept over them before finally settling on Kakashi, "designate Uchiha Ling and Uzumaki Xi as subjects of the highest level of protection. I will personally oversee the research and monitoring of Ling's eyes and that shard. All related information is to remain strictly confidential. Xi's identity and her knowledge of the Ryūmyaku contract may be the key to handling a future Ryūmyaku crisis. Her safety and recovery must be ensured."

The meeting continued for several hours as they discussed each resolution in depth and refined the details. By the time it ended, deep night lay beyond the windows, but the Hokage Building remained brightly lit. Konoha, a shinobi village that had only recently undergone an internal purge, was once again operating at high speed in response to an enormous, imminent external threat.

In his hospital room, Ling knew nothing of the senior officials' detailed discussions, but he could feel the tense atmosphere hanging over Konoha. He lay in bed, cooperating with the medical ninja's examinations while his mind continually worked through possible futures.

Akatsuki, Pain, the Rinnegan, the Ryūmyaku, the shard, the Eye of Purification and Erosion... and that mysterious figure who had long since vanished, yet seemed to be everywhere...

The road ahead was full of uncertainty and danger, but he felt no fear at all. Instead, there was an inexplicable excitement and anticipation.

Power, truth, protection... there were still so many things I wanted.

He raised his still-mobile right hand and gently laid it over his bandaged eyes, feeling the stirring newborn power beneath-filled with limitless possibilities, yet harboring enormous risks.

In the darkness, he seemed to see a thorn-covered road leading toward the light slowly unfolding before him.
