Background / History

Birth and Childhood

Naruto is born to Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki during an attack on the childbirth site. Obito seizes him as a hostage and threatens him with a kunai, forcing Minato to divide his attention between his newborn son and Kushina’s failing Nine-Tails seal. Minato rescues Naruto when Obito throws him into the air 460.

Unlike his alternate-world counterpart, this Naruto grows up with both parents alive. He uses the Namikaze surname, lives comfortably, and is not publicly branded a “demon fox.” His parents keep the Nine-Tails inside him a closely guarded secret 528 551.

Minato’s workload nevertheless leaves Naruto resentful of his father’s frequent absence. He becomes a habitual troublemaker, defaces Hokage Rock, and regularly receives punishments at school. His poor academic performance earns him the insult “a weak son of a great father” 528.

Alternate-world Counterpart

The Naruto first encountered in Rōran comes from another world, where his parents died shortly after his birth and Minato became the Fourth Hokage. The difference becomes explicit when the visitors learn that Tsunade holds that position in Ye Feng’s world. Minato therefore decides that their memories need not be erased 385 392.

An adult Naruto in the alternate world later appears as the Seventh Hokage, married to Hinata and raising Boruto and Himawari. His reunion with the visiting Kushina and Jiraiya gives him a chance to spend time with people who are dead in his own world 592 594 603.

Appearance

• Blond hair and resemblance to Minato: These similarities help Ye Feng identify the time-displaced Naruto as Minato’s son 385.
• Whisker-like facial markings: Ye Feng specifically connects the markings around his mouth with the Nine-Tails 385.
• Abdominal seal: His Nine-Tails seal becomes visible when Minato examines it or when Naruto gathers chakra during Ye Feng’s training 386 550.
• Chakra forms: Kurama Mode surrounds him with a golden robe marked by black lines. His later Six Paths transformation adds tomoe markings and nine floating black spheres 649 678.

Personality

Naruto is noisy, mischievous, competitive, and often slow to understand explanations. Even after meeting Minato in Rōran, his alternate-world younger self takes considerable time to realize that his father is the Fourth Hokage. In Ye Feng’s world, he initially mistakes Hinata’s blushing and fainting for poor health rather than affection 392 528 574 575.

His determination is stronger than his early technical ability. He repeatedly rises after Neji knocks him down and refuses to retreat from Gaara despite injuries to his arm and leg. His ambition expands from becoming Hokage to surpassing both his father and Ye Feng 554 559 560 570.

Naruto also places others’ safety above winning. He cancels his Rasengan after breaking Neji’s Rotation, taking the resulting damage himself rather than seriously injuring his opponent. Later, witnessing another Naruto’s childhood makes him regret complaining about his own parents and recognize how much their presence has protected him 560 647 648.

Abilities & Skills

Shadow Clone Technique

Naruto’s large chakra reserves support repeated waves of shadow clones in combat and parallel training 127 554 560.

• Attrition tactics: Exhausts Neji by forcing him to defend against successive waves with Rotation 560.
• Accelerated learning: Receives each clone’s memories and experience when it disperses, helping him master the Rasengan within a month 554.
• Battlefield coverage: Sends clones in different directions during the war; they help identify and defeat White Zetsu 658 662.
