First Encounter with Lin Feng

Wang Lei was livestreaming the PC version of The Forest in single-player mode when he heard unexpected gunfire. Encouraged by his viewers, he investigated near the spawn point, hoping to discover an Easter egg or a shortcut to completing the game. He speared a goat that Lin Feng had wounded and offered it to him, attempting to trigger dialogue 16.

The PC version lacked voice communication, preventing Wang Lei from answering Lin Feng’s questions. After watching Lin Feng disappear, he posted footage of their encounter. His audience initially treated Lin Feng as a developer-created Easter egg 16.

Streaming Success and Private Contact

The encounter dramatically increased Wang Lei’s popularity. The developers added a separate rescue-team NPC modeled after Lin Feng, with an achievement for following it, and rewarded Wang Lei with a deluxe gaming pod. His comedic gameplay and the publicity raised his follower count from tens of thousands to over a million 30.

Wang Lei nevertheless suspected that the original Lin Feng was different from the developers’ imitation. Dinosaur fossils and reliable information were scarce in Wang Lei’s world, making the encounter particularly exciting for him 32 33.

Borrowing Lin Feng’s shotgun, Wang Lei killed the Mutant Savage with three shots, retrieved the chest, and returned the firearm. Lin Feng gave him a Steel Crossbow. In gratitude for the encounter that had transformed his streaming career, Wang Lei supplied a large load of logs and medicines before they parted as the elevator doors closed 33 34.

Personality

Wang Lei is curious, excitable, and naturally goofy, traits that contribute to his appeal as a streamer. He initially investigates Lin Feng partly for potential publicity, then sustains audience interest by bluffing about an “Easter egg” he does not actually understand 16 30.

Despite his showmanship, he recognizes the possible consequences of meeting a real person from another world. He protects their conversation from his audience, refuses to attack Lin Feng for entertainment, and worries about Lin Feng’s safety after his own deaths. His gifts of supplies express genuine gratitude rather than a negotiated payment 31 32 33.
