Arc 5The Meng Xing Village Mission

Wang Ba survived the sect’s conscription and the deadly assault on Moon-Mirror Prefecture, then faced growing threats from Incense Dao forces and pressure to take missions. He joined Bu Chan’s investigation of Meng Xing Village, where Huo secretly planned to sacrifice them and the villagers for rewards.

  • Wang Ba prepared for conscription, bought protective treasures, and joined the attack on Moon-Mirror Prefecture, where Soul-Dispersing Divine Light killed Su Lingling and Yun Caixiang.
  • After returning, Wang Ba learned about the dangers of the sect’s cultivation methods and the Legacy Spirit Talisman Competition, while Jia Nine’s egg hatched into the silent, combat-weak Black Feather Chicken.
  • A crimson phantom attacked Wang Ba and Shen Fu, but the Black Feather Chicken consumed it, and Wang Ba then discovered that the chicken could use Soul-Eating.
  • As forced missions against the Incense Dao began, Bu Chan entrusted Wang Ba with her great-grandmother’s ring and prepared to investigate Meng Xing Village with him.
  • Wang Ba sold Spirit Chickens to Dong Qiyu, gave Bu Chan protective equipment and spirit beasts, and learned new spells before the pair set out with Huo, Pan Long, and Madam Xue.
  • The group entered Meng Xing Village in disguise, where the bustling town’s apparent lack of Incense Dao believers raised Wang Ba and Bu Chan’s suspicions before zealots attacked.
  • Jia Thirteen and the Azurewater Spirit Turtles defeated the zealots confronting Wang Ba and Bu Chan, while Huo’s group fought off another cluster of attackers.
  • Huo persuaded the group to mark the villagers as Incense Dao believers and sent Wang Ba and Bu Chan to place formation flags, then revealed his plan to sacrifice them and the villagers for greater rewards.
Chapters 101–125 Vol. 2 Read

Ch. 101Three years

Shen Fu returned to the Chicken Farm after his mission was canceled and reunited with Wang Ba, Bu Chan, and the powerful spirit beasts. Wang Ba gave Shen Fu spirit chickens and a Wooden Tower Residence token to help him advance his cultivation, while Wang Ba decided it was time to move to the Spiritwater Courtyard.

  • Shen Fu returned early after the cultivator who had posted his mission died during a failed foundation-establishment attempt, and he found Bu Chan at the Chicken Farm.
  • Shen Fu mistook Jia Twelve for Jia Eleven and was drenched by Rice Bucket after criticizing the turtle’s appetite.
  • Shen Fu found Wang Ba caring for the female precious chickens and told him about the mission’s cancellation and the faster progress of cultivators using demonic methods.
  • Wang Ba warned Shen Fu against demonic cultivation methods and gave him cooked spirit chickens and a Wooden Tower Residence token to help him reach the Qi Refining Fourth Layer.
  • After Shen Fu left, Wang Ba watched him depart and decided to move to the Spiritwater Courtyard.

Ch. 102Chapter 101

Wang Ba reflected on the mutant Spirit Beasts he had raised, including Jia Thirteen, a supreme-grade Phantom Chicken, before trading for news while heading to the Wooden Tower Residence. Fellow Daoist Yan revealed that a Sect-Wide Conscription might begin soon, leaving Wang Ba alarmed.

  • Wang Ba checked Jia Seven's newly hatched eggs but found no Phantom Chickens among them.
  • Wang Ba considered how Jia Thirteen had become a supreme-grade Phantom Chicken and how Rice Bucket had developed into a high-grade spirit turtle.
  • Wang Ba left the Chicken Farm and headed to the Wooden Tower Residence, exchanging greetings with cultivators in the market.
  • Fellow Daoist Yan asked Wang Ba for fifty Spirit Chickens and offered to pay partly with high-grade talismans.
  • Fellow Daoist Yan said the Sect-Wide Conscription might begin soon, and Wang Ba reacted with grave alarm.

Ch. 103Low growls

After hearing that the sect might issue a summons, Wang Ba rented a new courtyard with powerful cultivation formations and strengthened his defenses before seeking Yu Changchun. He reached the former Eastern Saint Sect grounds, now occupied by the Heavenly Gate Sect, where a purple Spirit Beast growled from within the clouds.

  • Wang Ba worried that rumors of a sect summons were likely true and decided to seek out Yu Changchun.
  • Wang Ba paid Deacon Hao 120 Spirit Stones to rent a courtyard with cultivation formations, learning that its previous tenant had been a senior brother of Lin Yu's master.
  • Wang Ba reflected on his rapid cultivation, his stalled progress at the eighth layer of Qi Refining, and his growing reserves of Yin Spirit Power.
  • Wang Ba guarded himself with two high-grade talismans and Jia Thirteen before activating the courtyard's powerful formations and cultivating.
  • Wang Ba hurried to the former Eastern Saint Sect grounds and saw a purple Spirit Beast giving low, despairing growls from deep within the clouds.

Ch. 104Blood-Dan Seed

Wang Ba met Yu Changchun and learned that the Heavenly Gate Sect might soon conscript Heterodox Dao cultivators for war, so he bought equipment to protect himself. At a pill shop, he saw the newly arrived Blood-Dan Seed and discovered a wailing baby inside one of the pills.

  • Wang Ba saw the bound Spirit Beast Fanming at the mountain gate, then encountered Lin Yu, who greeted him coldly and passed by with her companions.
  • Yu Changchun met Wang Ba, drank his black crystal peach wine, and promised to investigate reports of a sect-wide conscription.
  • Yu Changchun warned Wang Ba that conscripts would face danger on the front lines but could earn rewards, and urged him to stock up on supplies and improve his strength.
  • Wang Ba found that prices had risen at the Market and bought a Sacred Heart Mirror, Jade Flow Armor, and Flying Yellow Ruler.
  • Wang Ba entered a pill shop after its other pills sold out and saw a baby wailing inside a translucent Blood-Dan Seed.

Ch. 105The eleventh level of the Body-Strengthening Scripture

Wang Ba witnessed the cruelty behind Blood-Dan Seeds, then traded Spirit Chickens for talismans and used accumulated lifespan to complete the eleventh level of the Body-Strengthening Scripture. His Spiritual Roots improved and his conversion of Spiritual Qi into Law Power grew faster.

  • Wang Ba left the pill shop after learning that Blood-Dan Seeds were made using infants, and reflected that his lifespan-transfer ability let him preserve his moral boundaries.
  • Wang Ba gave the cultivator surnamed Yan the fifty Spirit Chickens he had set aside and traded extra chickens for several valuable talismans.
  • Wang Ba and the cultivator surnamed Yan agreed to trade Spirit Chickens for spare talismans in the future.
  • Wang Ba gained lifespan from the traded Spirit Chickens and spent 9,216 years to complete the eleventh level of the Body-Strengthening Scripture.
  • Wang Ba tested his Spiritual Roots and found that his water, earth, and wood attributes had improved.
  • Wang Ba cultivated in the Spiritwater Courtyard and discovered that his Spiritual Qi converted into Law Power about ten percent faster.

Ch. 106Moon-Mirror Prefecture

Wang Ba learned that the sect-wide conscription would target Moon-Mirror Prefecture in twenty days, then prepared his companions for the danger ahead. Yun Caixiang revealed that the Market at Swordwave Garrison might have the Shield-Armored Giant-Headed Turtle Wang Ba had been seeking.

  • Wang Ba met Yu Changchun, whose Heart-Questioning Tea strengthened Wang Ba’s Yin Spirit Power, and learned that a Blood Bone Dao martial uncle had praised his Black Crystal Peach Spirit Wine.
  • Yu Changchun told Wang Ba that the conscription would begin in twenty days and target Moon-Mirror Prefecture, a Gold Core sect in the Jiang Kingdom, under Deacon Steward Lu Yuansheng.
  • Yu Changchun asked Wang Ba to reserve any future Black Crystal Peach Spirit Wine for him, saying he trusted Wang Ba more than his fellow disciples.
  • Wang Ba traded Spirit Chickens for treasures, including a supreme-grade Wooden Armor Talisman, and gave sets of Law Artifacts and other items to Shen Fu, Su Lingling, Yun Caixiang, and Bu Chan.
  • Wang Ba told his companions about the coming conscription, frightening them, and Yun Caixiang said the Swordwave Garrison Market might have the Shield-Armored Giant-Headed Turtle he wanted.

Ch. 107An abundance of spirit beasts

Wang Ba traveled to Swordwave Garrison to shop for Law Artifacts and spirit beasts, where he bought Shield-Armored Giant-Headed Turtles and a White-Crowing Chicken. He returned to the Eastern Saint Sect garrison with a Heavenly Thunder Seed and new ideas for raising powerful spirit beasts.

  • Wang Ba gave Bu Chan and the others cultivation guidance, allowed them to use the Spiritwater Courtyard, and sold another batch of Spirit Chickens.
  • Wang Ba paid to teleport to Swordwave Garrison and learned from a guard about the garrison and Tao Sound Market.
  • Wang Ba bought a set of twelve flying-needle Law Artifacts for nearly three hundred Spirit Stones.
  • Wang Ba found ten Shield-Armored Giant-Headed Turtles and bought all four younger ones after learning the older turtles had been reserved by the Joyous Life Dao.
  • Wang Ba considered buying a Mountain-Moving Ape and realized lifespan breakthroughs might turn first-tier supreme-grade combat beasts into Foundation Establishment Realm beasts, then bought a White-Crowing Chicken instead.
  • Wang Ba bought a single-use Heavenly Thunder Seed and returned to the Eastern Saint Sect garrison before the Teleportation Array closed.

Ch. 108The conscription begins

Wang Ba tested the White-Crowing Chicken’s defenses, then received the order to report to the Golden Rainbow Garrison for conscription. At the garrison, cultivators gathered under strict command, and Wang Ba’s name was called as personnel assignments began.

  • Wang Ba had Jia Twelve fight the White-Crowing Chicken, learned that its tough feathers made it a strong defender, and placed lifespan into it.
  • The Heavenly Gate Token announced that conscription would begin, ordering Heterodox Dao cultivators to gather at the Golden Rainbow Garrison within three days.
  • Wang Ba delayed his departure until Jia Nine laid a black-patterned egg after mating with the White-Crowing Chicken, then joined the arriving cultivators at the garrison.
  • At the mountain gate, Wang Ba recognized Bu Chan, Su Lingling, Meng Randao, Jing Kuang, and Xu Shi among the crowd, and resisted Xu Shi’s seductive charm.
  • Lu Yuansheng declared that conscription orders and prohibitions would be enforced with executions, while Bai Yu began assigning personnel and called Wang Ba’s name.

Ch. 109The Inside Agent

Wang Ba joined the Heavenly Gate Sect’s campaign against the Moon-Mirror Prefecture, where he learned that Dong Qiyu had infiltrated the sect as an inside agent. After the sect’s formation fell and the assault began, several powerful figures emerged from an island, revealing that the attackers had walked into an ambush.

  • Bai Yu recognized Wang Ba as the brewer of Black Crystal Peach Spirit Wine, gave him a White Bone Formation fragment, and took his last jar of wine.
  • Lu Yuansheng led the cultivators to the Moon-Mirror Prefecture, where the surrounding formation suddenly shattered.
  • A Gold Core True Person’s pressure swept over the attackers, and a woman accused Dong Qiyu of betraying the Moon-Mirror Prefecture after he had nearly become its Sect Master.
  • An elderly woman confronted Lu Yuansheng, rejected his offer to surrender, and fought him as Bai Yu ordered the Heterodox Dao cultivators to attack.
  • Wang Ba stayed toward the rear while the Moon-Mirror Prefecture’s defenders seemed to flee, until a pillar of light rose and several powerful Law Power auras revealed an ambush.

Ch. 110Joyous Life Dao

Lu Yuansheng revealed the blood-colored skeleton’s Nascent Soul-level power, forcing most of the allied Gold Core True Persons to abandon Moon-Mirror Prefecture and return to defend their own sects. After the skeleton’s power faded, the battle shifted to the old woman, who unleashed a deadly skull technique as a ray of divine light raced toward Wang Ba.

  • The deputy city lord of Welcoming Dragon City and several allied Gold Core True Persons joined the attack on the island, while Wang Ba stayed within the White Bone Formation.
  • Lu Yuansheng broke free of the old woman’s red silk with the blood-colored skeleton and crushed one Gold Core, prompting the other Gold Core True Persons to flee after learning their sects were under attack.
  • After the skeleton’s power faded, Lu Yuansheng called on Junior Brother Jiang, and the old woman discovered that the figure resembling Yunjing was an impostor while Dong Qiyu escaped his bonds.
  • The Joyous Life Dao cultivators used their techniques to hinder the old woman, but she recovered and sacrificed herself to activate a pitch-black skull.
  • The skull unleashed Soul-Dispersing Divine Light, and one ray shot toward Wang Ba as Lu Yuansheng identified the technique.

Ch. 111Soul-Dispersing Divine Light, Life and Death

Wang Ba survived the Soul-Dispersing Divine Light as Moon-Mirror Prefecture fell to the Heavenly Gate Sect and its allies, but Su Lingling and Caixiang died in the attack. After the victors returned, Lu Yuansheng delivered the Black Skull to Ning Daohuan, who revealed the sect’s next operation would target the Mountain-Sea Sect.

  • The bone fragments’ formation shared the Soul-Dispersing Divine Light’s force, and Wang Ba survived after his Yin Spirit Power consumed a third of its reserves; Mi Lan and the Joyous Life Dao disciples vanished.
  • Lu Yuansheng declared Mi Lan dead and demanded Moon-Mirror Prefecture’s surrender, but its defenders charged out and Bai Yu ordered the attackers to kill.
  • Wang Ba found Xu Shi dead, then discovered that Su Lingling and Caixiang had died from the black divine light; Shen Fu mourned Su Lingling as his new dao companion.
  • The Heavenly Gate Sect and Heterodox Dao cultivators finished plundering Moon-Mirror Prefecture and returned by light boats, carrying Wang Ba and the survivors away.
  • Lu Yuansheng presented the Black Skull to Ning Daohuan, who identified it as Soul-Dispersing Divine Light and explained that the sect had lost a Gold Core Elder in another operation.
  • Ning Daohuan ordered preparations for another operation amid growing threats and named the Mountain-Sea Sect as the next target.

Ch. 112Genius

After returning from Moon-Mirror Prefecture, Wang Ba learned more about the Soul-Dispersing Divine Light and the cultivation methods of the Mysterious Maiden Dao, while Yu Changchun explained the sect’s Spirit-Entrusting Tokens and offered him a possible path out of Heterodox Dao status. As the conscription’s aftermath settled, the Merit Rankings were released, Shen Fu withdrew from others, and Jia Nine’s egg finally hatched.

  • Yu Changchun welcomed Wang Ba back, explained that the Soul-Dispersing Divine Light stripped away Divine Souls, and described how Mysterious Maiden Dao practitioners assimilated compatible female cultivators.
  • Yu Changchun told Wang Ba that Bai Yu favored him, explained why Bai Yu had agreed to protect him, and said a Legacy Spirit Talisman might let a skilled talisman-maker leave Heterodox Dao status.
  • Yu Changchun explained that Spirit-Entrusting Tokens were used to monitor all Heavenly Gate Sect cultivators, and Wang Ba gave him twenty Spirit Chickens.
  • Bu Chan focused more intensely on cultivation after Su Lingling and Yun Caixiang died, while Shen Fu became distant and frequently took Free Missions.
  • The conscription Merit Rankings placed Dong Qiyu first, Zong Meng second, and Xiong Haitian third; Wang Ba ranked near the bottom and accepted his low score.
  • After two months of waiting, Jia Nine’s egg, laid after mating with the White-Crowing Chicken, hatched.

Ch. 113A new breed, Foundation Establishment Pills

Wang Ba discovered that his supreme-grade Black Feather Chicken hybrid was sterile, unintelligent, and nearly defenseless, then watched Rice Bucket mate with the Shield-Armored Giant-Headed Turtles. While discussing Foundation Establishment with Yu Changchun, Wang Ba learned how rare Foundation Establishment Pills were and why medicinal pills could hinder a flawless foundation, leaving Yu to suspect Wang Ba had taken many.

  • Wang Ba tested the Black Feather Chicken and found it silent, solitary, unable to reproduce, and weak in combat despite its strong feathers and supreme grade.
  • Wang Ba watched Rice Bucket mate with the four Shield-Armored Giant-Headed Turtles and hoped to acquire more spirit turtles for breeding.
  • Yu Changchun told Wang Ba about the Legacy Spirit Talisman Competition and attacks on Heterodox Dao cultivators near the Eastern Saint Garrison.
  • Yu Changchun explained that Foundation Establishment Pills were scarce rewards for major service, and that accumulated pill toxins made establishing a foundation without one difficult.
  • Yu Changchun described Heavenly Dao Foundation Establishment and asked whether Wang Ba had taken many medicinal pills; Wang Ba reacted awkwardly.

Ch. 114Price hikes, spirit chef

Wang Ba learned about a spirit chef who could concentrate spirit cuisine, then navigated rising market prices and prepared to visit the Swordwave Garrison. Just as he was leaving with spirit chickens and the persistent Black Feather Chicken, the mysterious Gray-Robed Cultivator who had once sold him proof of kills appeared at the Chicken Farm.

  • Yu Changchun explained that the Heavenly Gate Sect's Demonic Dao methods enabled quick early breakthroughs but made later cultivation difficult, and Wang Ba reflected that he had never taken medicinal pills.
  • Cultivator Yan visited to buy a hundred spirit chickens, described the Swordwave Garrison's spirit chef, and paid Wang Ba with Spirit Stones and high-grade talismans at the inflated market price.
  • Wang Ba found that market goods had grown expensive while shops paid little for spirit chickens, so he bought nothing.
  • Wang Ba arranged a controlled incubation area for the Shield-Armored Giant-Headed Turtle eggs and prepared to travel to the Swordwave Garrison with spirit chickens and the Black Feather Chicken.
  • The Gray-Robed Cultivator who had once sold Wang Ba proof of kills appeared outside the Chicken Farm, prompting Wang Ba to ready his Law Power and talismans.

Ch. 115Identity and mystery

Wang Ba refused to deal with a suspicious cultivator he suspected was Dong Qiyu, then improved his cultivation by consuming concentrated Spirit Chicken essence. His progress toward the ninth layer of Qi Refining was interrupted when Shen Fu returned badly injured and revealed that a mission for a Foundation Establishment Pill had led him into an attack by eerie crimson-painted strangers.

  • A gray-robed cultivator asked Wang Ba to sell him Spirit Chickens and mentioned Zhao Feng, but Wang Ba refused and suspected the visitor was Dong Qiyu.
  • Wang Ba ate concentrated Spirit Chicken essence, found it greatly accelerated his cultivation, and began raising more chickens to sustain the supply.
  • After half a year, Bu Chan told Wang Ba that Shen Fu was badly injured, and Wang Ba hurried with her to the Chicken Farm.
  • Wang Ba discovered Shen Fu's Law Power vortex was nearly shattered and learned he had accepted a mission to capture a female Foundation Establishment cultivator for the Joyous Life Dao in hopes of winning a Foundation Establishment Pill for Wang Ba.
  • Shen Fu explained that crimson-painted strangers attacked his group without using recognizable Law Power, killing several cultivators as they shouted about the Yin God and Dream Lord.

Ch. 116Its Ability

Wang Ba's Black Feather Chicken devoured a phantom face that attacked him and Shen Fu, revealing its ability to counter mysterious beings. The sect Inspectors found no Yin Ghost at the Chicken Farm, while Ning Daohuan learned that Incense Dao fiends and Yin Ghosts had infiltrated the sect.

  • Wang Ba realized that people seeking the Yin Spirit Great Dream Scripture might be targeting him and resolved to stay within the Heavenly Gate Sect's territory.
  • A crimson phantom face emerged from Shen Fu and attacked Wang Ba, whose talismans and Soul-Calming Jade Talisman struggled to stop it.
  • The Black Feather Chicken pecked the phantom face apart and ate it, while Wang Ba and Bu Chan watched in shock.
  • Wang Ba and Bu Chan found Shen Fu unconscious and badly depleted, and Wang Ba warned Bu Chan to keep the chicken's ability secret.
  • Sect Inspectors arrived at the Chicken Farm, found the Yin Ghost's presence gone, and left after warning Wang Ba against killing within the sect.
  • Ning Daohuan received a message that Incense Dao fiends and Yin Ghosts had infiltrated the sect, and he wondered why Divine Chicken Fanming remained beyond his control.

Ch. 117Pureblood Yang-Restoring Pill, Soul-Eating

Ning Daohuan ordered a campaign against the Incense Dao and renewed efforts to find the Eastern Saint Sect remnants. At the Chicken Farm, Wang Ba bought a healing pill for Shen Fu, discovered the Black Feather Chicken’s Soul-Eating ability, and learned that ten Spirit Turtle Eggs had hatched.

  • Ning Daohuan ordered Lu Yuansheng to hunt Incense Dao cultivators, warn the other four Chen Kingdom sects, and search for the Eastern Saint Sect remnants, especially Ji Lan.
  • Lu Yuansheng reported that cultivators near the Eastern Saint Garrison had been ambushing Heterodox Dao cultivators and sect disciples, and Ning Daohuan ordered preparations against a possible Eastern Saint Sect plot.
  • Wang Ba bought three Pureblood Yang-Restoring Pills and saw Lin Yu enter the pill shop, but her companions accused him of bothering her and he left without warning her.
  • Wang Ba gave Shen Fu a Pureblood Yang-Restoring Pill and sent him to recover at the Spiritwater Courtyard.
  • Wang Ba examined the Black Feather Chicken, named its ability Soul-Eating, and later learned that the ten Spirit Turtle Eggs had hatched.

Ch. 118Azurewater Spirit Turtles and a Difficult Problem

Wang Ba welcomed a new breed of hybrid turtle but struggled as Spirit Chicken sales collapsed and left him short of Spirit Stones. While Bu Chan cultivated in seclusion, he realized how much he missed her, only to find that the visitor at his gate was Fellow Daoist Yan.

  • Wang Ba watched the hybrid turtles hatch, mature, and display exceptional defenses and water-attribute abilities; he named them Azurewater Spirit Turtles and recorded their traits.
  • Wang Ba expanded the pond for the breeding turtles and brewed the Black Crystal Peach harvest into Spirit Wine.
  • Wang Ba’s Spirit Chicken sales dwindled as cultivators switched to faster Heavenly Gate Sect methods, and the Market shop limited its purchases to 150 chickens a month.
  • Wang Ba refused Dong Qiyu’s request for 200 Spirit Chickens and resisted taking dangerous missions against Incense Dao cultivators despite needing Spirit Stones.
  • While Bu Chan cultivated in seclusion and Shen Fu returned to missions, Wang Ba weeded the Spirit Fields and began missing Bu Chan’s daily presence.
  • Wang Ba waited anxiously for Bu Chan, but when someone knocked at the Chicken Farm gate, he found Fellow Daoist Yan instead.

Ch. 119Forced Mission

Wang Ba gave Yan two middle-grade Spirit Stones when he could not lend the five hundred Yan requested, then discussed missions, the Incense Dao, and Foundation Establishment with Yu Changchun. After a joyful reunion with Bu Chan, Wang Ba learned nothing of the decision taking shape at Swordwave Garrison, where Elder Bei and Lu Yuansheng ordered all heterodox cultivators to accept forced missions against the Incense Dao or be killed.

  • Yan told Wang Ba that he had reached the top eight in the Legacy Spirit Talisman Competition but needed Spirit Stones, and Wang Ba gave him two middle-grade Spirit Stones as a gift.
  • Yu Changchun urged Wang Ba to take missions, revealed that he had touched upon a chance for Foundation Establishment, and gave Wang Ba a voice transmission talisman for Martial Uncle Bai Yu.
  • Wang Ba returned to Spiritwater Courtyard and spoke with Bu Chan, who told him she had broken through to the Qi Refining fourth layer.
  • At Swordwave Garrison, Lu Yuansheng persuaded Elder Bei to issue forced missions targeting the Incense Dao.
  • Elder Bei ordered all heterodox cultivators to accept missions to eradicate the Incense Dao, threatening to kill anyone who failed to accept a mission within five days.

Ch. 120The eve: A choice

Wang Ba learned that the Heavenly Gate Sect had imposed a forced mission against the Incense Dao and sought Bai Yu’s help to avoid it. Bai Yu agreed to exempt Wang Ba but refused to help Bu Chan, leaving Wang Ba troubled as Bu Chan approached his cabin with an old ring.

  • Wang Ba discovered that forced missions against the Incense Dao disregarded the usual exemptions, and learned that Shen Fu had already left on a mission.
  • Wang Ba contacted Bai Yu, then traveled to Blood Bone Hall and encountered the frighteningly powerful Lin Yu along the way.
  • Bai Yu agreed to ask Senior Uncle Bei to exempt Wang Ba in exchange for spirit wine, but refused Wang Ba’s request to exempt Bu Chan.
  • Wang Ba returned to the Chicken Farm in distress, while Bu Chan took an old ring from her sleeve and knocked on his cabin door.

Ch. 121Taking Stock, Golden Wind Swift Arrow

Wang Ba prepared to leave the Heavenly Gate Sect for the forced mission to investigate Meng Xing Village, accepting Bu Chan’s old storage ring and examining the inheritance and keepsakes inside. He assembled his strongest defenses and bought the Golden Wind Swift Arrow Technique, then returned to the Chicken Farm and recognized Dong Qiyu.

  • Bu Chan entrusted her great-grandmother’s storage ring to Wang Ba as she prepared to join the mission to investigate Meng Xing Village.
  • Wang Ba discovered the ring held Bu Chan’s cultivation resources and the Origin Wood True Method, then resolved to honor her trust while following his own choice.
  • Wang Ba took stock of his combat resources, bound a male Azurewater Spirit Turtle, and packed additional suitable turtles as backups.
  • At the crowded Market, Wang Ba bought the Golden Wind Swift Arrow Technique, several support techniques, and golden sand iron needed to practice it.
  • After returning to the Chicken Farm, Wang Ba recognized the unfamiliar visitor as Dong Qiyu.

Ch. 122Practicing spell techniques

Wang Ba sold Dong Qiyu a thousand Spirit Chickens, used the payment to stock up on supplies, and prepared for the mission to Meng Xing Village with Bu Chan. After Bu Chan confessed her feelings, Wang Ba began practicing spell techniques and discovered his lifespan panel could accelerate the refinement required by one of them.

  • Dong Qiyu offered four Spirit Stones each for a thousand Spirit Chickens, and Wang Ba accepted the sale and received a Voice Transmission Talisman for future dealings.
  • Wang Ba spent some of the proceeds on practical spell techniques and healing medicine before returning to the Chicken Farm.
  • Bu Chan confronted Wang Ba about accepting the mission with her, confessed that she wanted to be his dao companion, and urged him to focus on the dangers ahead.
  • Wang Ba gave Bu Chan a Storage Bag filled with protective gear and a Spirit Beast Bag containing Jia Twelve and a female Azurewater Spirit Turtle.
  • Wang Ba tried to practice the Golden Wind Swift Arrow Technique, realized it suited Metal Spiritual Root cultivators rather than him, and found that his lifespan panel could refine its golden sand iron using 1.5 years of lifespan.

Ch. 123Seven spells, traveling together

Wang Ba spent lifespan to master seven spells, gaining new combat abilities before setting out with Bu Chan on a mission to Meng Xing Village. He concealed his strength from their three companions and planned to use Bu Chan as a decoy while he stayed in the background.

  • Wang Ba reviewed his spell manuals, used his lifespan to learn seven spells, and tested the Divine Fire Technique and his other new abilities.
  • Senior Brother Huo waited at the garrison checkpoint with Junior Brother Pan and a middle-aged woman for the two remaining members of their mission party.
  • Wang Ba and Bu Chan arrived late, and Junior Brother Pan challenged them to accept a smaller share of credit for the mission.
  • Bu Chan calmly rejected Pan's demand, introduced herself and Wang Ba, and agreed with Senior Brother Huo to discuss their abilities on the way to Meng Xing Village.
  • Wang Ba privately praised Bu Chan and explained that he planned to keep the companions focused on her while he concealed his own strength.

Ch. 124The Change in Meng Xing Village

Wang Ba and Bu Chan investigated Meng Xing Village for Incense Dao followers, but discovered that the village’s mortals had all been infiltrated. As fanatical believers attacked them, Wang Ba prepared to fight with his Law Artifacts and Spirit Beasts.

  • Huo proposed that the five cultivators pose as a merchant caravan and quietly investigate Meng Xing Village, and Pan procured mortal clothes after killing someone.
  • The group entered the town at dawn and split up to search, while Huo rejected Pan’s plan to sacrifice the entire village.
  • Wang Ba reunited with Bu Chan and realized the Incense Dao’s complete absence from the bustling town was suspicious, leading them to suspect the village head was concealing the believers.
  • A battle erupted near the northeastern corner, and the townspeople abruptly turned hostile as uncanny figures emerged throughout Meng Xing Village.
  • Fanatical Incense Dao believers rushed Wang Ba and Bu Chan, so Wang Ba activated his defenses and summoned Jia Seven, several Spirit Chickens, and Azurewater Spirit Turtles.

Ch. 125Blood sacrifice!

Wang Ba and Bu Chan joined Huo, Madam Xue, and Pan Long after the Incense Dao zealots withdrew from Meng Xing Village. Huo proposed sacrificing the village’s believers to make Blood Law Pills, but secretly planned to lure Wang Ba and Bu Chan into the formation and sacrifice them too.

  • Jia Thirteen and the Azurewater Spirit Turtles defeated the zealots attacking Wang Ba and Bu Chan, and the pair hurried to meet the others.
  • Huo, Madam Xue, and Pan Long killed an Incense Dao cultivator while dozens of zealots surrounded them; the zealots withdrew before Wang Ba and Bu Chan arrived.
  • Pan Long suggested sacrificing the village’s believers, and Huo agreed, claiming their deaths could produce powerful Blood Law Pills.
  • Huo made the five cultivators sign a declaration identifying the villagers as Incense Dao believers, then gave Wang Ba and Bu Chan instructions to place formation flags in the south.
  • After Wang Ba and Bu Chan left, Huo revealed that he intended to activate the formation and sacrifice them along with the villagers for a greater share of the rewards.
