Patrick already had a plan in mind for the matter of joining the Horde, based on what he remembered the survivors of Dalaran doing. After its restoration, the floating city, the Violet Citadel, had reappeared in Azeroth. But although Dalaran was nominally neutral, its political leanings actually favored the Alliance. Throughout several major events in Azeroth, Dalaran had always stood alongside the Alliance. Though nominally neutral, they had long since chosen the Alliance's side.
Even as a member of Dalaran's Council of Six, Kael'thas could still be casually thrown into Dalaran's water prison by humans. Later on, the high elves' political standing in Dalaran had been virtually nonexistent, like human vassals. No, they were human vassals.
The gnomes depended on the dwarves, but they were still one of the Alliance's four races. The Darkspear Trolls depended on the orcs, but trolls were likewise one of the Horde's four races. Once these high elves lost all power and Dalaran completely dominated their thinking, they might not even realize what they had done wrong when a great purge descended.
Since that was the case, Patrick could also fly the banner of neutrality while secretly funding the Horde's fight against the humans, who were currently the most powerful force. Then he could slowly build his own strength and cultivate his most reliable allies. That was the right path.
"Everyone, one thing is certain: we will not join the Horde. But as Iniven said, we need allies, reliable allies. The Forsaken are our first choice. Tell me your suggestions." Patrick had settled on the plan outright. All that remained was for these Council members to address its shortcomings.
Patrick had to find the right path through a future thick with
