Ch. 376A warning (Let it erupt)

After Stratholme’s victory, Patrick sent evidence of Varimathras’s treachery to Sylvanas while the Scarlet Crusade and Argent Dawn prepared for what came next. Quel'Thalas readied an assault on Zul'Mashar, and Patrick explained to Alleria that he wanted Lordaeron to become another power in Azeroth rather than leave the Alliance and Horde unchallenged.

  • Patrick killed Balnazzar, then gave Tirion Fordring instructions to send the Dreadlord’s head and letters to Sylvanas through Luminas Sunstrider so she could deal with Varimathras.
  • Tirion Fordring returned to Light's Hope Chapel to rebuild the Order of the Silver Hand and plan to reclaim Lordaeron.
  • After hearing that Stratholme had fallen, Hawkspear organized Quel'Thalas’s troops to attack Zul'Mashar and advance plans for a new city at Quelrins.
  • Alleria questioned why Quel'Thalas had paid such a high cost to help Lordaeron, and Patrick argued that Azeroth needed more than the Alliance and Horde as dominant powers.

Ch. 377Cleaning house (part one) (Let it burst forth)

Patrick told Alleria he planned to unite neutral powers such as Kul Tiras and Stromgarde so they would not be forced to join the Alliance or Horde. In Silvermoon City, Luminass learned that Varimathras had been secretly undermining the Forsaken and Quel'Thalas, then hurried to bring Patrick’s message and evidence to Sylvanas.

  • Patrick explained his plan to unite neutral powers, and Alleria accepted that Quel'Thalas might have to endure an immediate loss to secure its future.
  • Higgins-El-Cabrolon gave Luminass a sealed box, a parchment, and a letter intended for Sylvanas.
  • After reading the intelligence, Luminass learned that Varimathras had been betraying the Forsaken and working against Quel'Thalas, and she erupted in fury.
  • Luminass entrusted Memphis-Shadow with local matters, then traveled to Undercity and went straight to the Queen's Hall.

Ch. 378Clean House (Part Two)

Sylvanas uncovered Varimathras’s conspiracy with Balnazzar and the Scarlet Crusade to destroy the Forsaken, then confronted him in Undercity. Varimathras triggered a rebellion, and Sylvanas and her allies fought back as Rotande Gili trapped him with plague energy.

  • Sylvanas examined Balnazzar’s head and secret letters revealing the planned alliance against the Forsaken.
  • Sylvanas ordered Varimathras summoned and showed him Balnazzar’s head when he arrived.
  • Varimathras called for the conspirators to attack, plunging Undercity into chaos as Defilers and Royal Potions Masters turned on their allies.
  • Luminas Sunstrider attacked Varimathras, but he dodged her strike, while Sylvanas ordered Nathanos to rally the troops and assumed her banshee form.
  • Rotande Gili used his plague form to ensnare Varimathras and restrict his movement.

Ch. 379Darion

Sylvanas’s forces crushed Varimathras’s rebellion in Undercity, executing the traitors and restoring order. Meanwhile, Darion returned to Light’s Hope Chapel after the victory in Stratholme, carrying Ashbringer and wondering how his father became a Death Knight.

  • Luminass, Sylvanas, and Rotande Gili restrained and killed Varimathras, and Rotande Gili dissolved his body for study.
  • Blightcaller informed Ono Sunstrider that Varimathras had rebelled, and Horde ambassadors led troops to help suppress the uprising.
  • Rotande Gili, Luminas Sunstrider, and Nathanos broke Putress’s defenses; Nathanos killed Putress, and Sylvanas ordered the traitors executed.
  • Undercity returned to order, and Grand Potions Master Faranell rose to replace Putress.
  • Darion returned to Light’s Hope Chapel with Ashbringer after the Scourge’s defeat in Stratholme, and Oryx Rivendare comforted him about their fathers’ fate.

Ch. 380The groundwork began

Tirion Fordring failed to free Alexandros Mograine’s soul from the curse within the Corrupted Ashbringer, leaving Darion to seek another way to save his father. Meanwhile, Patrick arranged closer ties with Kul Tiras and Stromgarde, and the chapter ended with Galin accepting his invitation to join forces against future enemies.

  • Darion asked Tirion Fordring to save Alexandros Mograine’s soul, but Tirion could not overcome the curse on the Corrupted Ashbringer.
  • Tirion told Darion that powerful prayers and blessings were needed, and Darion left with Oryx after his hope failed.
  • Patrick met Tandred in Kul Tiras and proposed opening shipping routes and increasing trade between their nations.
  • Patrick gave Tandred a letter inviting Kul Tiras to face powerful enemies alongside Quel'Thalas.
  • Telestra delivered an identical invitation to Galin in Stromgarde, and Galin accepted on behalf of the kingdom.

Ch. 381The Blasted Lands

Patrick led Quel'Thalas’s fleet to the Blasted Lands, intending to pass through the Dark Portal to Outland. When the Alliance and Horde confronted his forces, Patrick revealed his purpose but left their response unresolved.

  • Tandred sent the aircraft carrier fleet from Kul Tiras to the Blasted Lands at Patrick’s request, as Patrick considered the dangers and politics awaiting him in Outland.
  • A guard reported that Quel'Thalas ships had appeared near the Shattered Coast while High Warlord Dathun, Commander Rulrg, Watcher Mahalba, and their allies planned a battle against the demons.
  • The Alliance and Horde leaders went to investigate the fleet, and Patrick arrived with blood elf troops from his Dawn's Edge Burning Legion and Dark Curse Burning Legion.
  • Ambassador Audalan recognized Patrick Cabrolon, and Astalor Bloodsworn rebuked him for addressing the Regent by name.
  • Patrick said he had come to pass through the Dark Portal to Outland, and High Warlord Dathun welcomed the prospect of another powerful enemy for the demons.

Ch. 382The battle began

Patrick joined the Alliance and Horde coalition’s campaign to clear the Blasted Lands, and the armies launched a coordinated attack on the demons. After Loramus killed Orista at Coilfang Gorge, the coalition turned toward Mosh'Ogg Hold.

  • Dathun and the coalition leaders explained how Ras'lekh's forces used shadow barriers and reinforcements to repel earlier attacks, and Audalan revealed that Sevini's power came from her Shadow Talisman.
  • Patrick offered Quel'Thalas’s troops to the coalition, which planned to attack Orista, then Grolor at Mosh'Ogg Hold, and finally the Altar of Storms.
  • The Alliance and Patrick’s blood elves attacked Coilfang Gorge while the Horde blocked ogre reinforcements near the Armory and Three-Way Crossing.
  • Patrick sent Astalor to deal with fel-tainted murlocs harassing the ships and camp after the messenger reported casualties and lost supplies.
  • Loramus pierced Orista’s shadow barrier and killed him with a magic-breaking weapon as the coalition overwhelmed the demons in Coilfang Gorge.
  • The coalition immediately marched through the Three-Way Crossing to attack Mosh'Ogg Hold.

Ch. 383Demons and black dragons

Patrick studied the Shadow Talismans recovered from Orista to develop a Shadow Knight class, while Ras'lekh prepared to defend the Altar of Storms and sought help from Tremus. Onyxia separately ordered Tremus to sabotage the Alliance and Horde army so the demons would survive.

  • A Blood Elf assassin emerged after the army left and collected the Shadow Talisman fragments from Orista's body.
  • Patrick examined the talismans as research material for creating a shadow-wielding counterpart to the Paladin.
  • Ras'lekh ordered Grolor back to the Altar of Storms and directed the demons to summon reinforcements.
  • Ras'lekh sent word of the joint army to Tremus, hoping the black dragon would help the demons.
  • Onyxia ordered Tremus to disrupt the Alliance and Horde offensive and preserve the Altar of Storms.

Ch. 384Demolition... Dreadmaul Hold

After the Alliance and Horde defeated the fel murlocs’ attack and demolished Dreadmaul Hold, they reached the heavily defended Altar of Storms. As the allied army prepared to attack, N’Zoth secretly revived a fel murloc named Vara to serve him.

  • The Alliance and Horde found Dreadmaul Hold deserted, and Patrick ordered the mages to destroy it in case ogres were hiding inside.
  • Astalor reported that the fel murlocs had been defeated after Tarecgosa froze the coast and the mages killed their leader.
  • N’Zoth restored the dying fel murloc, named him Vara, and sent him to gather others to serve his master.
  • The allied forces demolished Dreadmaul Hold and marched to the Altar of Storms.
  • The Alliance, Horde, and blood elves found the mountain pass crowded with demons, fel orcs, and ogres, then prepared for battle.

Ch. 385In the line of fire

Patrick refused to use Arcane Mass Point against Ras'lekh’s forces because it could worsen the damaged Ley Line Defense System around the Dark Portal. When Teremus attacked the coalition from the air, Patrick blocked his dragon breath and sent three blue dragons to fight him.

  • Ellen warned Patrick that Arcane Mass Point could further damage the Ley Line Defense System at the Dark Portal and make it easier for demons to enter Azeroth.
  • Ras'lekh waited behind his defenses as the coalition attacked, confident that the Altar of Storms would keep supplying troops.
  • Teremus flew in from the Rotting Scar and unleashed dragon breath on the coalition’s rear ranks.
  • Patrick blocked Teremus’s attack with Discs of Norgannon after spotting the black dragon with Mind Vision.
  • Tarecgosa, Mati'gosa, and Kyrissa revealed their blue dragon forms and flew to fight Teremus.
  • Mahalba and Dathun exchanged relieved smiles as they recognized the value of Quel'Thalas’s troops joining the coalition.

Ch. 386Assault on the Mountain

The Alliance and Horde assaulted the mountain while Blue Dragons engaged Tremus and Patrick battled Ras'lekh with powerful Arcane magic. After a brutal fight at the foot of the mountain, the allied forces reached the path to the Altar of Storms.

  • Mati'gosa, Tarecgosa, and Kyrissa engaged Tremus, while the allied forces began attacking the demons and Ogres below.
  • Patrick used Diffusing Riftwave to cut through the enemy ranks, and Ras'lekh tried to corrupt his Arcane sphere with fel magic.
  • Patrick countered Ras'lekh's corruption as Alliance and Horde soldiers fought and died in the melee.
  • Alleria took command and ordered the Rangers to focus their attacks on enemy Spellcasters.
  • The allied forces nearly wiped out the enemies at the foot of the mountain and reached the path to the Altar of Storms.

Ch. 387Ras'lekh's retreat

Patrick and the allied forces defeated Ras'lekh's demonic army at the Altar of Storms, forcing Ras'lekh to flee toward the Dark Portal. Afterward, Patrick claimed Teremus's corpse for research, to the blue dragons' dismay.

  • Patrick blocked Ras'lekh's sneak attack on Loramus while the allied forces advanced on the Altar of Storms.
  • Loramus killed Grolor the Destroyer and Sevini, stopping the demons from being summoned, while the blue dragons killed Teremus.
  • Ras'lekh fled toward the Dark Portal after Patrick warned the others not to pursue him.
  • The Alliance and Horde leaders thanked Patrick for the blood elves' help, and Patrick claimed Teremus's corpse as his spoils.
  • Back at the Blood Elf Base, Mati'gosa questioned Patrick's plan to research the black dragon's corpse.

Ch. 388The first battle on Hellfire Peninsula (Part one)

Patrick planned to use Teremus's corpse and dragon breath to help with Quel'Serrar, then joined the other powers in planning their entry into Outland. The chapter ended as stealth Rogues entered the Dark Portal to disrupt the demons, allowing Paladins to lead the main force through.

  • Patrick arranged for Teremus's corpse to be taken to Silvermoon City and asked Nareil Lasas to quench Quel'Serrar with dragon breath.
  • Patrick let the wounded rest in the Blasted Lands while the Alliance, Horde, and other powers gathered to prepare for the Outland expedition.
  • Ammish Wildhammer objected to sending everyone through the Dark Portal at once, warning that the first group could be killed.
  • Patrick proposed sending stealth Rogues through with explosives and smoke bombs to confuse the demons and help the army seize control of the portal.
  • Representatives selected and equipped Rogues, who entered the Dark Portal before the Paladins were to lead the main force through.

Ch. 389The first battle on Hellfire Peninsula (part two)

The Alliance, Horde, and Quel'Thalas forces drove the Burning Legion back from the Dark Portal and established a foothold in Outland. After the battle, Patrick learned that reaching Tempest Keep by teleportation was possible for him alone because Netherstorm's unstable magic made larger transports dangerous.

  • A Forsaken Rogue reported that the sabotage at the Stair of Fate had thrown the demons into confusion, and Duro led the Alliance vanguard through the Dark Portal as Mathis and the Blood Knights followed.
  • The Alliance and Horde commanders led their troops into battle as the demons rallied and attacked the portal, while Patrick blocked the Abyss Commander's Fel-fire rain with the Discs of Norgannon.
  • Patrick turned the Arcane sphere into a Frost Orb and struck the Abyss Commander, while allied reinforcements pushed the Burning Legion back toward Murketh's Gate and Shattrath's Gate.
  • The allied forces secured the Dark Portal and began building fortifications, while Loramus searched for Ras'lekh and Duro and Vorrein told him the demon would appear again.
  • Patrick asked Mathis whether he could teleport to Tempest Keep, and Mathis explained that only Patrick could safely make the journey through Netherstorm's unstable space.

Ch. 390Tempest Keep

Patrick teleported to Tempest Keep to meet Prince Kael'thas, after leaving Alleria to coordinate Alliance and Horde forces on Hellfire Peninsula. He reported Quel'Thalas's recovery and territorial expansion, while Kael'thas waited for him to reveal his true purpose.

  • Patrick asked Ellen whether he could teleport alone to Tempest Keep, then told Alleria to lead their forces and retreat to Azeroth if danger arose.
  • Patrick teleported from Hellfire Peninsula to the Sundial Platform, where Ambassador Solannas and the Blood Elves prepared for a powerful, unidentified arrival.
  • Ambassador Solannas recognized Patrick, and Grand Astromancer Solarian welcomed him before escorting him to Prince Kael'thas.
  • Patrick met Kael'thas and his four advisers in the Eye of the Storm after the others left.
  • Patrick told Kael'thas that Quel'Thalas's defenses had been restored, three new Blood Elf cities had been founded, and the Scourge in Eversong Woods and the Ghostlands had nearly been cleared.

Ch. 391Predicament (Part One)

Patrick confronted Kael'thas about his alliance with Kil'jaeden, and Kael'thas explained that he had sought demonic power to save the Blood Elves from mana addiction and the effects of losing the Sunwell. Kael'thas admitted that fel corruption and Kil'jaeden's strength had left him with no way to turn back.

  • Patrick asked Kael'thas why he had chosen Kil'jaeden, and said he would not have come if he believed Kael'thas had joined the Burning Legion.
  • Kael'thas explained that he attacked Tempest Keep rather than staying in the Black Temple to seize power, and recalled how Garithos's mistreatment had driven the Blood Elves to seek Illidan's help.
  • Kael'thas told Patrick that Illidan taught the Blood Elves to draw power from demons, but fel could not meet their needs without corrupting them.
  • Kael'thas explained that the Discs of Norgannon could ease mana addiction but could not replace the Sunwell's broader benefits, which had prompted him to leave Quel'Thalas.
  • Kael'thas said he had secretly contacted Kil'jaeden to reopen the Dark Portal and restrain Illidan, hoping the Blood Elves could escape fel's control and return to Azeroth.
  • Patrick asked whether Kael'thas could turn back, but Kael'thas said fel's corruption ran too deep and Kil'jaeden was too powerful to resist.

Ch. 392A predicament (part two)

Patrick proposed using a staged betrayal to get Kael'thas and the Blood Elves back to Azeroth, then lure Kil'jaeden to the Sunwell and destroy him. Kael'thas agreed to build Kil'jaeden's trust while Patrick planned to contact Illidan and prepare their forces.

  • Kael'thas explained that Kil'jaeden had trapped him in Outland and that neither escape through space nor the Dark Portal was viable.
  • Patrick proposed withdrawing the Blood Elf troops to Tempest Keep and pretending to surrender to Kil'jaeden after enemy forces surrounded them.
  • Patrick planned to have Tempest Keep return to Azeroth and be summoned to the Isle of Quel'Danas, where the Blood Elves would use the Sunwell to draw Kil'jaeden in.
  • Kael'thas said he needed time to earn Kil'jaeden's trust and identified Illidan as a possible opening for their plan.
  • Patrick planned to contact Illidan, gather the Blood Elf forces in Outland, and coordinate a final attack on Kil'jaeden at the Sunwell.

Ch. 393Loramus's help

Patrick returned from Tempest Keep after persuading Kael'thas to follow his risky plan, then sought Loramus's help contacting Illidan. Loramus agreed to reach out to his friend Altruis, Illidan's former adjutant.

  • Patrick believed Illidan would cooperate with him because Illidan opposed serving the Burning Legion and trusted only his own power.
  • After Patrick left, Kael'thas and the Four Advisors accepted his plan as their last chance to save the Blood Elves in Netherstorm.
  • Patrick returned to the Dark Portal, found the allied forces had secured the area, and asked Astalor to summon Loramus.
  • Patrick asked Loramus whether he could contact Illidan, but Loramus explained he knew little about Illidan's situation in Outland.
  • Loramus told Patrick that Altruis, his friend and Illidan's former adjutant, might help, and agreed to seek him in Nagrand.

Ch. 394Thoughts

Patrick reflected on his failed efforts to reform Quel'Thalas and the political forces that had kept its leadership entrenched. He concluded that his plans for the future had no place for the obstinate landed nobles, while recalling how Sylvanas's warning about the coming plague had been ignored.

  • Patrick led Quel'Thalas's expeditionary force toward Nagrand with the newly joined Demon Hunter Loramus after bidding farewell to Voren and Dullon.
  • Patrick considered the limits of his knowledge and his earlier attempts to change Quel'Thalas's leadership, which had repeatedly suppressed him.
  • Patrick recalled how the Council marginalized the Windrunner family and how his marriage to Alleria had united the Windrunners and Cabrolons into a powerful force.
  • Patrick reflected that he had told Alleria and Sylvanas about the future, and that Sylvanas had tried to warn the king and Council when the plague threatened Lordaeron.
  • Senyor Sunwing ignored Sylvanas's warning and suppressed the intelligence, while Arthas later devastated the Sunwing family after breaching Silvermoon City.

Ch. 396Firewing Outpost

Patrick led his army through Terokkar Forest and arrived at Firewing Outpost, intending to recruit its Blood Guards and take them to Nagrand before returning to Silvermoon City. He ordered Shals Vodoorn to prepare to leave, despite the commander’s assignment to test the Mana Bomb.

  • Astalor told Patrick that Tuurem was empty despite the Broken and Urek Warriors who should have been there.
  • Patrick ordered his army to turn east toward Firewing Outpost and decided to bring its Blood Elves into his forces.
  • Shals Vodoorn saw Patrick’s army approaching and initially mistook it for reinforcements from Kael'thas.
  • Patrick ordered Shals to pack essential military supplies and accompany him to Nagrand.
  • Shals hesitated because Kael'thas had sent the Blood Guards to test the Arcane Bomb, but Patrick said their plans had changed and they would return to Silvermoon City after his work was complete.
