| First Appearance | Chapter 480 |
Realm and Attainment
A cultivator reaches the Half-step Golden Immortal realm by overcoming the Heavenly Human Fifth Decay, Dao Heart Decay. The ordeal is personal: its contents cannot be meaningfully learned from another cultivator, and outside knowledge may itself become an obstacle that changes the decay's form 801 809.
The resulting power gap over Heavenly Sovereigns is described as greater than the difference between a Primordial Spirit cultivator and a Yin Spirit cultivator, or between a Heavenly Human and a Yang Spirit cultivator 716.
- The Void Universe contains only a little over eight hundred Half-step Golden Immortals despite having three thousand Great Daos, making the realm exceptionally rare 699.
- Most major realm domains have fewer than twenty known Half-step Golden Immortals, and many of those serve under Dao Ancestors 742.
- Reaching the realm does not make every practitioner equal; accumulated Dao practice, Dao Heart cultivation, and mastery of Great Dao true meaning determine relative strength 773.
Great Dao Development
Upon reaching this realm, a completed ninth-tier Immortal Technique may be elevated into a “Great Dao,” also called a supreme or ultimate Spiritual Power 773. The Great Dao has five documented states:
| Great Dao state | Description |
|---|---|
| Without true meaning | The initial Great Dao state, lacking realized true meaning 773 |
| True meaning, incomplete | The practitioner has witnessed true meaning, but it remains incomplete 773 |
| Complete true meaning | The Great Dao's true meaning has become complete 773 |
| True nature and true meaning integrated | True nature and true meaning are fully unified 773 |
| Merged with the self | The Great Dao has merged with its practitioner; only Dao Ancestors can reach this state 773 |
Dao Foundation and External Dao Manifestation
A complete Dao Foundation is required to witness External Dao Manifestation, the highest of the four minor realms within the Half-step Golden Immortal stage 837.
- Some Half-step Golden Immortals must spend tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years witnessing true meaning after attaining the realm 760.
- Cultivators of Acquired Great Daos may require external conditions or achievements to perfect their Dao Foundations, making conflicts over worlds, cultivators, and resources more common 812.
- Even a practitioner who has only recently reached the realm can possess formidable Dao practice if their Dao Heart and understanding of the Great Dao are sufficiently advanced 773 837.
Capabilities and Limitations
Great Dao-Origin Techniques
Ninth-tier Immortal Techniques are complete, but certain techniques can only be elevated to Great Dao Origin level after their user becomes a Half-step Golden Immortal 760 766.
- Shi Xuan's Three Powers Dharma Destroying Sword, Four Symbols World Destroying Sword, and Five Elements Immortal Slaying Sword could not transcend beyond ninth tier until the creation of the Two Forms Dao Destroying Sword after his advancement 760.
- A specially refined artifact based on a dying Great Thousand World can become a ninth-tier Immortal Technique and later rise to Great Dao Origin level once its owner reaches this realm 766.
- The Divine Emperor could create rare spatial artifacts such as a Time Dao Beacon Gate by combining Great Dao Origin with artifact refinement 795.
Spiritual Pressure
The presence of a Half-step Golden Immortal can immobilize or overwhelm lower-realm cultivators through sheer pressure 791.
- Shi Xuan recognized the Fengdu Imperial Sovereign's aura as pressure that solidified the mind and made movement nearly impossible 791.
- A Half-step Golden Immortal's strength can affect a Great Thousand World strongly enough for lower cultivators to perceive its arrival or actions as world-shaking 810.
Combat Limits
Half-step Golden Immortals are not invulnerable. Battles between them primarily consume Dao practice rather than directly injuring the Primordial Spirit, and differences in Great Dao level can be decisive 823.
- Newly advanced practitioners may be inferior in realm, Dao practice, and experience to older Dao Lords 802.
- Innate Slaughter Dao is described as one of the most effective Great Daos for killing a Half-step Golden Immortal before one's own cultivation is fully complete 791.
- A sufficiently powerful natal Spirit Treasure, supreme divine ability, or formation can temporarily restrain even a Dao Lord 803 865.
- Achieving the realm alone does not ensure Dao Integration; Dao Lord Ziyun failed his attempt despite manifesting his Acquired Cloud Great Dao 871.
