Background

Ancestor Song Yan was originally a Soul Departure Stage rogue cultivator. After discovering an ancient Heavenly Immortal cave dwelling in the Western Wilderness Outer Regions, he obtained its cultivation heritage, advanced to the Primordial Spirit realm, and founded Penglai Sect. The inheritance traced back to a cultivator who had attended Yuyu Daoist’s lecture assembly in the Primordial Era. 66

Song Yan later visited Shenxiao Palace, the Heaven-Connecting Spirit Treasure left by Yuyu Daoist, and received its guidance. Combining that guidance with his inheritance, he created Penglai Sect’s ultimate true inheritance, the Divine Firmament True Law. 66

The sect occupies Penglai Island and more than a hundred nearby islands. Inner disciples who leave with permission may establish branch families on surrounding islands, though the sect’s master-disciple lineages are considered more enduring than any individual family. 66 78

Leadership and peaks

At the time Shi Xuan entered the sect, Zhang Zhengyan served as Sect Master, Lingxing Daoist headed the Affairs Hall, Yong Xiang headed the Discipline Hall, and Yu Linglong served as Dharma Transmission Elder. Mo Yuan was the Head of Tian Ji Peak. 79

Recruitment and discipleship

Penglai Sect’s entry process is centered on Dharma Assemblies. All applicants undergo selection, including cultivators personally accepted by Golden Core Grandmasters outside the sect; this equal treatment is presented as a foundation of the sect’s long-standing stability. 64

Applicants are tested on their cultivation, age, spiritual roots, talent, comprehension, background, state of mind, and perseverance. The light bridge leading to the assembly tests candidates’ fear and resolve while they cross through the sky. 73 74 76

Cultivation Inheritance

Divine Firmament lineage

The Divine Firmament True Law is Penglai Sect’s historical ultimate true inheritance and sect-protecting cultivation method. Its origin combines the ancient cave-dwelling heritage obtained by Song Yan with guidance from Shenxiao Palace. 60 66

By the time the End of the World Pavilion was opened to affiliated lineages, the sect’s current Fundamental Great Law was the Divine Firmament True Dao Attainment Treasure Scripture, a supreme cultivation method said to integrate with multiple Innate Great Daos. 814

Three true transmissions

Outsiders originally knew only the Divine Firmament True Law among the sect’s three true transmissions. Yong Xiang’s rise and formation of a high-grade Golden Core led to speculation that another true transmission centered on refining a sword box, while the remaining transmission was known only to Penglai’s elders and true disciples. 60

Five great cultivation methods

Penglai Sect does not forcibly seize cultivation methods from disciples. When Shi Xuan returned with external Primordial Spirit methods, Sect Master Zhang stated that their disposition was to leave such a decision to the holder rather than compel submission. 334

Lower courtyards may select two true inheritances and six Primordial Spirit-level methods or related arts, while branch lineages may select one true inheritance and four Primordial Spirit-level methods. The lower courtyards can receive the pre-Primordial Spirit portions of a sect-protecting true inheritance. 814
