Background / History

Upbringing in the Wu Family

Wu Xinyou grew up under rigid expectations: an Alpha would inherit the family business, while an Omega would support it through a marriage alliance. Interested in sanda since childhood, Wu Xinyou expected to become an Alpha but differentiated into an Omega instead, losing much of their former physical strength. The family nevertheless continued to forbid tears or displays of weakness, treating them as a source of shame 44 68 115.

The Wu family arranged Wu Xinyou’s participation in Heartbeat Time Difference with Lu Ye as their preferred marriage prospect. Wu Xinyou genuinely liked Lu Ye but refused to pursue someone already in love with another person 115.

Wu Xinyou joined the show during its outdoor competition, greeting the cast in camouflage clothing. Lu Ye already knew Wu Xinyou as the child of his Omega father’s close friend 39.

Watching Lu Ye play affectionately with Xie Lin challenged Wu Xinyou’s memories of him as cold, distant, and increasingly unpredictable. Despite lingering heartache, Wu Xinyou laughed at the change and concluded that only Xie Lin suited this version of Lu Ye 62.

Jin Tiancheng’s subsequent courtship initially caused awkwardness. An attempt to feed Wu Xinyou a grape was politely declined, but the two grew closer when Jin taught Wu Xinyou how to catch crayfish 64 66.

Their accidental kiss occurred after He Jianing tried to grab Wu Xinyou’s waistband during a fall. Wu Xinyou dodged, stepped on Jin Tiancheng’s foot, and lost balance. Escape from the Arranged Engagement

After the show’s filming break, Xie Lin received an unusually formal message announcing that Wu Xinyou would not return, followed immediately by being blocked 104. The family had confiscated Wu Xinyou’s phone, imposed surveillance, and arranged an unwanted engagement after the attempt to secure Lu Ye failed 115.

Xie Lin, Lu Zhenzhen, Lu Ye, and Jin Tiancheng organized a rescue. Inside the residence, Xie Lin pressed Wu Xinyou to state whether the engagement was wanted. Wu Xinyou finally shouted a refusal and agreed to leave 114 115.

Prolonged punishment kneeling in the ancestral hall had left both knees bruised, swollen, and bleeding. Unable to run quickly, Wu Xinyou was carried out by Xie Lin 116. When Wu Shichu later demanded a return home and threatened financial retaliation, Wu Xinyou refused, threw cow dung at him, and escaped with the group to a secretly purchased downtown apartment 117.

Independent Life

Wu Xinyou declined to interfere when Jin Tiancheng announced his intention to destroy the Wu family. Lu Ye separately arranged a report of suspected tax evasion to keep the family occupied 118.

After leaving, Wu Xinyou registered a jewelry design studio and returned to the dating show. The Wu family attempted to pressure the production into excluding Wu Xinyou, only to discover that Jin Tiancheng was providing powerful backing 125.

Wu Xinyou remained close to Xie Lin, attending his bachelor party and warning him that the Wu family had been reported for involvement in child trafficking. After Xie Lin disappeared during the outing, Wu Xinyou noticed the absence and alerted the others 170 171. Wu Xinyou was also present during Xie Lin’s wedding preparations, reassuring his grandfathers before teasing him about his weight gain 176.

Despite that restraint, Wu Xinyou has considerable pride and a strong sense of loyalty. Rather than compete for Lu Ye after recognizing his feelings for Xie Lin, Wu Xinyou accepted the relationship and befriended Xie Lin. During the forest competition, Wu Xinyou insisted that the squad should not abandon any member 45 62 115.

Xie Lin’s uninhibited behavior became something Wu Xinyou admired and wanted to emulate 115. After escaping the family, that admiration developed into open defiance, freer laughter, playful swearing, and a willingness to make a scene. Wu Xinyou described cutting family ties as making even breathing easier 117 125.

Wu Xinyou also becomes protective of friends. At the hospital, Wu Xinyou tried to draw Wu Shichu’s hostility away from Xie Lin. Later, after overhearing plans for someone connected to Xie Lin to join the show, Wu Xinyou privately resolved not to stand aside if the newcomer bullied him 122 139.
