Qin Feng shrugged, putting on an innocent look.
"I don't know either. It just popped up on its own."
He said it without blushing or missing a beat.
That pop-up ad before he transmigrated really had appeared on its own. Even now, he still hadn't figured out how that thing worked.
Rather than invent a lie that wouldn't stand up to scrutiny, he might as well act as though he had no idea either.
Besides, he really wasn't lying.
Yan narrowed her eyes, quietly activating the Eye of Insight again.
A faint white light gathered over her eyes as streams of data flashed past, analyzing the truth of Qin Feng's words.
In the end, the answer was that he hadn't lied.
Still half doubtful, Yan deactivated the Eye of Insight and sighed inwardly.
If he wasn't lying, then this Galaxy Power that had appeared out of nowhere really was an unsolved mystery.
At a complete loss, she gave up entirely.
After all, she was a warrior.
She would leave this sort of brainwork to Queen Kaisa.
"All right, I'll believe you for now."
Yan withdrew her gaze, a rare trace of seriousness entering her voice.
"But I hope you'll put that power to good use."
She paused, her gaze sweeping over the silver-white dagger at Tara's waist.
"Also, that Dark Silver dagger is a restricted item. In principle, the Angel Civilization has an obligation to recover it."
"But for your sake, I won't enforce that. Just keep it in mind, and don't let the demons steal it."
Qin Feng raised an eyebrow. "Don't worry. My things aren't that easy to steal."
"Good."
Yan clapped her hands, that languid smile returning to her face.
"All right, I've asked everything I needed to ask..."
"Can I experience how wonderful an angel is now?"
Qin Feng suddenly interrupted her and stepped forward.
Yan blinked, the curve of her lips deepening.
"Of course..."
Before she could finish with "not," Qin Feng had already moved.
His right arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her into his embrace, so fast that Yan didn't even have time to react.
The next second, his lips covered hers, gentle yet domineering.
Angel Yan's mind completely shut down in that instant.
Her golden eyes went round, her pupils filled with shock.
She had lived for over seven thousand years. What hadn't she seen in those seven thousand years?
But she had always been the one teasing others until they flushed. No one had ever dared do this to her.
"Mmph."
Yan instinctively raised a hand to push him away, but the instant her palm touched his chest, a scorching current of energy surged back into her angelic circuits through their joined lips.
That power felt both unfamiliar and familiar.
Then a crisp sound of tearing fabric came from behind Qin Feng.
Black wings abruptly unfurled from either side of his shoulder blades, spanning nearly three meters.
The newly grown wings stretched in the wind, reflecting a sheen both sacred and uncanny in the afternoon sunlight.
Yan shoved him away.
She took two steps back, her chest rising and falling slightly, her long golden hair clinging to her cheeks in some disarray after what had just happened.
"You bastard!"
At that, Qin Feng tilted his head innocently.
"Weren't you the one who said you'd let me experience how wonderful an angel was? Why are you turning on me now?"
He paused, a trace of pointed mockery entering his gaze.
"Or are you just all talk?"
"Were you only planning to unlock it for me remotely with the Angel Golden Key, without doing anything tangible at all?"
Yan's lips trembled twice.
She wanted to argue, but when the words reached her lips, she found she couldn't say a single one.
Because that really had been her plan.
But who could have known this bastard wouldn't follow the script and would charge straight in?
She glared at Qin Feng bitterly, as though her golden eyes could bore two holes into his face.
Yet the fellow opposite her wore an innocent smile, looking for all the world as though she had been the one to flirt first.
Finally, Yan took a deep breath and forcibly suppressed the emotions churning in her chest.
"If you dare do that again the next time we meet, I'll show you what an angel's wrath means."
Qin Feng blinked. "Isn't lightning your thing?"
"Shut up! Hmph!"
Yan stamped her foot, and the white wings on her back spread abruptly.
She turned and shot into the air, looking somewhat flustered with embarrassment and anger. Her long golden hair whipped untidily through the air twice before she soon vanished deep into the clouds.
Qin Feng watched her disappear into the distance, then lowered his head to inspect the pair of shimmering black wings behind him and reached out to touch the new feathers at their roots.
They felt nice.
In high spirits, he turned and lifted his chin at Tara and Mingta.
"Let's go. It's time I went back for an upgrade too."
The Giant Gorge, infirmary.
White fluorescent light spilled from the ceiling, making the entire hospital room almost dazzlingly bright.
The medical equipment hummed low and steadily, while a green waveform pulsed slowly and regularly across the heart monitor.
Du Kao lay in the hospital bed, his face pale.
His chest rose and fell slightly with his breathing, and he looked as though all his vitality had been drained away.
His once-imposing, square face was now slack and haggard, his eyes sunken, with a trace of dried saliva still at the corner of his mouth.
Yu Qin stood beside the bed, her hands hovering about ten centimeters above Du Kao's head.
Fine strands of pale green healing energy seeped from her palms, slipping into Du Kao's temples like delicate vines and slowly repairing severed nerve bundles deep within his body.
Her brows were tightly furrowed, and a fine layer of sweat beaded on her forehead.
Lian Feng stood half a step behind her, her hands wrung together until her knuckles turned white, her eyes fixed on Du Kao's lifeless face.
After a little over ten minutes, Yu Qin withdrew her hands.
The green glow in her palms gradually faded. She let out a long breath and wiped the sweat from her temple with her sleeve.
"Yu Qin, how is the general?"
Lian Feng hurried a step forward.
Yu Qin turned around, her expression grave. "The general's condition is very complicated. The nerves in his brain have suffered extremely severe damage."
"My abilities are limited. I can only repair most of the damaged nerve bundles. As for the rest..."
"What about the rest?"
Lian Feng's voice trembled slightly.
"Will it affect the general? And when will he wake up?"
Yu Qin lowered her eyes, her tone carrying the caution of a doctor faced with something beyond her power.
"We'll have to find another way to deal with the rest. With brain damage this severe, my healing ability alone has already reached its limit."
"As for the effects, there may indeed be some. Damage to the nerves in the brain could cause partial impairment of lower-limb function. In the worst case, it could lead to paralysis. It will all depend on how his recovery progresses."
Lian Feng's heart sank at that.
"As for when he'll wake up?"
Yu Qin glanced at the monitor. "Judging by his current vital signs, the general will wake up tonight."
"But his consciousness will be extremely fragile. He most likely won't be able to communicate normally for a while."
