Chapters 101–125 Vol. 2 Read

Ch. 101The Rescued

Dick and the First Expeditionary Force defeated a demon army in Ashenvale and began coordinating with the Warsong Clan. While exploring Starfall Lake with Jaina and Liadrin, Dick sensed demons nearby, leaving their location uncertain.

  • Dick used Avenging Wrath to help the paladins and Varok’s orcs drive back the demons, while Jaina’s mages destroyed the trapped forces with Blizzard spells.
  • Varok and Grom thanked Dick for helping the Warsong Clan, and Varok promised to send orcs to relieve the knights in a week.
  • Dick urged Erigor to set aside his hatred of orcs, and Erigor agreed to try while the humans and orcs repaired the defensive line together.
  • Dick rode toward Starfall Lake with Jaina and Liadrin, explaining his knowledge of Ashenvale with a story about an elven bard.
  • After Jaina and Liadrin played in Starfall Lake, Dick’s Silver Hand grew warm, warning him that demons were nearby.

Ch. 102The reclusive sage

Dick discovered demons had imprisoned the reclusive elf Jarod Shadowsong and wounded his wife, Sarah Hill. After defeating the demons, he brought the couple back to camp for treatment, leaving him with a chance to involve Jarod in the Second Demon War.

  • Dick followed a path near Starfall Lake, found a damaged magical gemstone bearing traces of fel energy, and crept toward a demon camp.
  • Dick ambushed the camp, defeated its Shivarra commander, and discovered a chained white-haired elf holding his gravely wounded wife inside a ruined house.
  • The elf introduced himself as Jarod Shadowsong and identified his wife as Sarah Hill; Dick recognized Jarod as a legendary commander who had been missing from the war.
  • Dick urged Jarod to bring Sarah to his camp for treatment, and Jarod accepted his help.
  • Dick reunited with Jaina and Liadrin at the mountain’s base and introduced them to Jarod as he brought the couple back to camp.

Ch. 103Jarod's doubts

Dick met Jarod at the Ashenvale Frontline and learned that the Green Dragonflight’s temple had failed to warn Mount Hyjal about the demonic invasion. Jarod asked Dick to investigate the temple, while Dick questioned Jarod’s identity and motives.

  • Dick observed Jarod’s unusual presence and introduced himself as commander of the Eastern Kingdoms’ First Expeditionary Army.
  • Dick explained that his army had come to avenge a kingdom destroyed by demons and to save the world, earning Jarod’s respect.
  • Jarod told Dick that the Green Dragonflight’s temple in Ashenvale monitored the world, but had sent no warning despite the demons occupying much of the forest.
  • Jarod explained the Dragonflights’ different responsibilities and corrected Dick’s understanding of their temples and the Emerald Dream.
  • Dick realized Jarod wanted his army to investigate the Green Dragonflight’s temple, and Jarod asked him to do so as a favor.

Ch. 104The intruding nightmare

Dick investigated the Green Dragonflight’s trouble at Bough Shadow and discovered that Taerar had already been corrupted by the nightmare. After Taerar attacked, Dick fought through the Emerald Drakonids and fled while two adult dragons pursued him.

  • Dick sneaked through Bough Shadow’s ruins, avoiding Emerald Drakonid patrols and the dragons overhead.
  • Dick spotted Taerar guarding the Emerald Temple and saw ghostly, living corruption on the dragon’s abdomen.
  • Dick recognized Taerar’s condition as the nightmare corruption that would turn him into the Shadow Dragon.
  • Taerar woke and attacked Dick with a corrosive energy sphere, prompting the Drakonids to charge.
  • Dick fought through the Drakonids, escaped their encirclement, and dodged the Dragon Breath of two adult dragons pursuing him.

Ch. 105War of the Dragons

Dick forced a corrupted Green Dragon toward Demonforge Camp, where its arrival sparked a battle between the dragons and the demons and weakened the Legion’s hold on Ashenvale. He survived the crash into the Southfury River and found the wounded dragon still alive nearby.

  • Dick hooked onto a diving Green Dragon, climbed onto its head, and battered it while trying to force it to fly forward.
  • When the dragon resisted and tried to crash into the ground, Dick used his Silver Hand and Holy Power to inflict more pain, then spotted Demonforge Camp below.
  • Dick’s Holy Light struck a Felguard and provoked the demons as the Green Dragon crashed beside the camp; the pursuing dragons attacked, and the demons drove them back.
  • The fighting drew Mannoroth’s forces into Bough Shadow, where Taerar defeated the demon attack and drove Mannoroth away.
  • The dragon conflict weakened the demons’ advantage in Ashenvale and gave the elves room to prepare a joint offensive.
  • Dick crawled out of the Southfury River and saw the wounded Green Dragon moaning nearby.

Ch. 106An argument

After surviving a plunge into the Southfury River, Dick recovered and faced the dying Green Dragon, while the Ashenvale Frontline received Tyrande. Jarod confronted Tyrande over her failures to rally the Wild Gods and protect the Kaldorei, and the argument was interrupted by a weary voice.

  • Dick recovered on the riverbank after using concentrated Holy Water, then found the Green Dragon and raised his Warhammer to kill her when she briefly regained her normal eyes.
  • At the Ashenvale Frontline, Liadrin challenged Tyrande and her Sentinel escort, but Erigor persuaded Liadrin to let them enter and meet Jarod.
  • Jarod urged Tyrande to contact the surviving Wild Gods and said he would seek a way to deal with the Dragon Aspects.
  • Tyrande said the Wild Gods had not answered and defended her decision not to risk resurrecting the fallen Demigods.
  • Jarod accused Tyrande of abandoning the Wild Gods, alienating the High Elves, and failing as a leader, until a weary voice interrupted them.

Ch. 107Saving Queen Ysera

Dick learned that the Emerald Dream had been corrupted and Queen Ysera imprisoned, so he joined Jarod’s plan to rescue her while Nozdormu warned that the Second Demon War’s history must still end in victory. Dick and the assembled forces departed for the Emerald Dream, leaving Erigor to defend the Ashenvale Frontline as Dick wondered where Medivh was.

  • Delia Sera told Dick, Jarod, and Tyrande that Xavius had corrupted the Emerald Dream, Queen Ysera was imprisoned, and Eranikus’s soul had been split.
  • Dick urged the group to focus on rescuing Ysera, and Tyrande admitted she could not wake the sleeping druids.
  • Dick summoned Nozdormu, who refused to send experienced bronze dragons because they were fighting the Infinite Dragonflight, but offered recruits and warned Dick against changing history too drastically.
  • Jarod organized a rescue plan: Dick and Jarod would hold off the whelps and drakonids, Tyrande and the Wardens would enter World's Sleep, and Thrall, Varok, Grom, and Vol'jin would draw Eranikus away.
  • Dick warned Erigor to retreat to the Barrens if the demons overwhelmed the Ashenvale Frontline, then departed with several thousand elite troops to rescue the trapped druids and Queen Ysera.
  • As the forces rode out, Dick wondered where Medivh was, since the alliance had formed without the Prophet bringing the races together.

Ch. 108Mannoroth the meddler

Jarod’s forces attacked Taerar in Bough Shadow and Tyrande began purifying the Emerald Dragon, but Mannoroth interrupted the ritual. Taerar became the Shade of Eranikus and dragged Dick through the Dream Portal into the Emerald Dream, leaving Liadrin behind.

  • Jarod briefed the commanders on their plan to reach the Emerald Dream and purify Taerar while Dick equipped the Heaven and Man as One Insignia.
  • The Wardens ambushed Drakonid patrols, and Tyrande struck Taerar with a moon-blessed arrow as Grom, Varok, Thrall, Vol'jin, and the others joined the battle.
  • Dick noticed the Nightmare consuming Taerar and urged Tyrande to begin the purification ritual, while Anveena recognized Elune as her mother.
  • Tyrande’s moonlight purification suppressed the Nightmare until Mannoroth’s glaive struck her and interrupted the ritual.
  • Taerar became the Shade of Eranikus, broke free, and entered the Emerald Dream through the Portal, dragging Dick with it.
  • Liadrin rushed toward the Portal, but a Warden restrained her as her mental link with Dick was severed.

Ch. 109Epiphany-the Great Old Ones

After crash-landing in the corrupted Emerald Dream, Dick realized that N'Zoth and Xavius had begun their plans far earlier than he had thought and identified Twilight's Hammer as a future target. He spotted a black-robed figure carrying a scythe-like staff and wondered why he was there.

  • Dick's Dragon Hook snapped, and he crashed into a dead tree before killing the Nightmare Beasts that attacked him.
  • Dick recognized the Emerald Dream's corruption as the work of N'Zoth and Xavius and reconsidered when their invasion had begun.
  • Dick concluded that Ysera and the Druids might have been trapped in the Emerald Dream for years, explaining why the corruption had gone unnoticed.
  • Dick connected later cataclysms to the Old Gods and resolved to watch Twilight's Hammer after the Demon War.
  • Dick spotted a distant black-robed figure with a scythe-like staff through his Engineering Telescope and questioned why he was there.

Ch. 110Fandral Staghelm

Dick discovered Fandral Staghelm making a deal with the Nightmare in the Emerald Dream and tried to persuade him not to trust Xavius. After Fandral attacked him, Dick offered a chance to save Valstann, and the two reached a wary agreement that left Dick carrying a Bloodlust Oak seed.

  • Dick watched Fandral Staghelm inscribe a magic circle and meet with the Nightmare, then recognized that Fandral was seeking a way to resurrect Valstann.
  • As Dick tried to leave, Fandral attacked him in Nightsaber form and pinned him down after Dick mentioned Valstann.
  • Dick warned Fandral not to trust Xavius and offered a method that might save Valstann, persuading Fandral to hear him out.
  • Fandral planted a Bloodlust Oak seed inside Dick and agreed to wait four years for Dick’s plan, while warning him not to deceive him.
  • Fandral said he would not rely entirely on Dick, and Dick asked him to help keep Archimonde from taking Nordrassil.

Ch. 111The purification began

Jarod and Tyrande led their forces into the Emerald Dream to rescue Ysera, where they battled the Nightmare Dragons and Tyrande purified Emeriss. The fight remained desperate against Eranikus, Lethon, and Ysondre, until the missing Dick appeared with Archdruid Fandral Staghelm.

  • Jarod and Tyrande led the assembled troops through portals to World's Sleep, where they found the Emerald Dream under attack by Drakonids and Nightmare Dragons.
  • Darion led the Stratholme Regiment into battle as Grom, Thrall, and Varok confronted Eranikus, aided by Vol'jin's protective Voodoo spell.
  • Tyrande and the Wardens fought the dragons surrounding imprisoned Ysera, and Tyrande used the Light of the Moon Goddess to purify Emeriss.
  • Emeriss regained her senses in her dream form and joined the fight against Lethon and Ysondre, while the Wardens and Orc heroes remained under pressure.
  • Tyrande saw a giant eagle carrying Fandral Staghelm and the missing Dick approaching.

Ch. 112The Dream Tyrant

Dick risked his life to reach Ysera and break the Nightmare Chains while Eranikus returned to World's Sleep. As Dick faced Eranikus’s devastating Dragon Breath, his allies could only watch from afar.

  • Staghelm and the Wardens battered Ysondre while Tyrande fought Lethon, and Dick struck Lethon with Holy Shock.
  • Dick saw Eranikus charging back toward World's Sleep and chose to enter Lethon's Poison Mist after the quest to save Ysera appeared.
  • Dick found Ysera bound by Nightmare Chains, used Holy Light to drive back the mist, and smashed through the chains with his hammer.
  • Tyrande, Thrall, Grom, Varok, and Staghelm watched Dick continue fighting as Eranikus approached the tower.
  • Eranikus's Dragon Breath engulfed Dick after he broke all but one of Ysera's chains.

Ch. 113The world's blessing

Dick survived Eranikus's Nightmare Breath when Elune intervened, revealing herself and asking him to heal the world's wounds. After receiving her blessing, Dick returned to the battle and struck the last Nightmare Chain binding Ysera, forcing Xavius to retreat as Ysera awakened.

  • The warriors believed Dick had died in Eranikus's Dragon Breath, and Liadrin tried to reach World's Sleep as Delia Sera carried her toward the tower.
  • A vast pillar of Elune's silver light halted World's Sleep's collapse and revealed Dick alive, while Tyrande realized Elune had chosen a human.
  • Elune spoke with Dick in a white spiritual realm, asked him to heal the world's wounds, and blessed him before sending him back to the Emerald Dream.
  • Dick and Anveena used the Holy Hammer to break the final Nightmare Chain binding Ysera, forcing Xavius to retreat.
  • Ysera opened her eyes as an enormous figure rose behind Dick to face Eranikus's next wave of Dragon Breath.

Ch. 114The End of the War of the Nightmare

Ysera and the Green Dragonflight defeated Xavius’s forces in the Emerald Dream, freeing Eranikus and ending the battle. Dick reconciled with Liadrin, then emerged from a Portal into a mysterious place and received a new quest involving Eranikus.

  • Ysera used her dream authority to battle Eranikus while the lucid Drakonids and Emerald Dragons overwhelmed the Nightmare’s forces.
  • Liadrin slapped Dick, then embraced and kissed him before warning him not to risk his life again.
  • Ysera drove Xavius from Eranikus and shattered his smoky image, after which she healed Eranikus and restored the Emerald Dream.
  • Varok, Thrall, Grom, Vol'jin, and other allies praised Dick, while Tyrande left without asking him about the moonlight.
  • Dick and Liadrin shared their feelings and discussed their future together, including Jaina.
  • Dick and Liadrin exited the Emerald Dream into a mysterious place, where a notification completed his quest and unlocked Eranikus’s quest, “Land of the Evil God.”

Ch. 115The dim road ahead

Dick accepted responsibility for defending eastern Ashenvale and blocking demons from entering the region, while Jarod expected the Wild Gods to turn the tide in Felwood. The death of Cenarius shattered that hope, and Archimonde ordered his forces to clear a path to Nordrassil.

  • Jarod assigned Dick’s First Expeditionary Army to defend eastern Ashenvale and blockade Azshara, with mountain giants, siege weapons, and dragon support.
  • Jarod told Dick that Ysera and Malfurion planned to resurrect the Wild Gods, but Dick doubted they could stop Archimonde.
  • Dick and Thrall prepared to leave as a strange storm and earthquakes struck Ashenvale, causing giant trees near Bough Shadow to collapse.
  • Thrall recognized the upheaval as a sign that a Wild God had died, and Jarod concluded that Cenarius and the Felwood defensive line had fallen.
  • Archimonde stood over Cenarius’s corpse, then ordered his servants to clear the way to Nordrassil.

Ch. 116Tyrande's journey

As demons threatened Mount Hyjal, Tyrande went to Watcher's Isle to free Illidan and obtain his power, but clashed with Maiev and the Wardens. Maiev fled with wounded sisters and vowed to stop Tyrande from releasing Illidan.

  • Jarod learned that the Demigods' resurrection ritual could begin within three days and that Tyrande had set out for the Wardens' headquarters.
  • Tyrande arrived at Watcher's Isle with Sentinels and Huntresses and demanded that Maiev let her reach Illidan.
  • Maiev refused to release Illidan, and Tyrande ordered her forces to disarm the Wardens.
  • Tyrande's forces drove the Wardens from the forest, leaving several of them wounded.
  • Maiev ordered Marai to open a portal to Azshara's Camp with Cordana, then turned back to rescue the remaining Wardens.

Ch. 117The Demon Hunter's rebirth

Tyrande visited Illidan in the Vault of the Wardens and recalled the choices and events that had led to his imprisonment, while Maiev searched for human priests to treat the gravely wounded Cordana. The chapter ended with Maiev abducting Dick and Illidan arriving at the command headquarters to face Jarod.

  • Tyrande entered the deepest level of the Vault of the Wardens and remembered Illidan's childhood, his love for her, and the events that led to his imprisonment.
  • Tyrande found Illidan holding the preserved yellow flower she had once given him and wept outside his cell.
  • Maiev learned that Cordana needed medicine and set out to find human priests who could heal her.
  • Maiev leaped from Dick's shadow, struck him unconscious, and caught him as Liadrin cried out.
  • Jarod watched as Tyrande brought Illidan into the command hall and greeted him after ten thousand years.

Ch. 118The Wounded Wolf Pack

Dick escaped his Anti-Magic Shackles and took Marai hostage, forcing a standoff with Maiev and the wounded Wardens. After recognizing that Illidan had been released, he offered the Wardens treatment and shelter in exchange for helping his army, but Maiev remained wary.

  • Dick dislocated his thumb to slip free of the Anti-Magic Shackles and recovered his sword.
  • Maiev watched Liadrin heal the wounded Wardens while the others searched for Marai.

  • Dick questioned whether the Wardens had come from Watcher Isle and realized Illidan had been released.
  • Dick revealed his ties to Jarod and offered the Wardens treatment and shelter in exchange for their help; Maiev asked what he wanted in return.

Ch. 119Demon-Slaying (Part One)

After receiving a letter that appeared to undermine his command, Dick appointed Jaina to lead the human detachment on Mount Hyjal and prepared to join Thrall’s hunt for Mannoroth. The orcs insisted on facing the demon without help, but Norgannon’s quest required Dick to participate and ensure Mannoroth’s death.

  • Dick’s forces secured the eastern edge of Ashenvale by destroying the bridge from Azshara, while the scattered demons kept them occupied.
  • Jaina arrived at Dick’s headquarters with an elven letter asking Theramore to send troops to Mount Hyjal and suggesting that Caliea replace Dick; Dick suspected Tyrande was trying to drive a wedge between them.
  • Dick appointed Jaina commander of the Mount Hyjal detachment, with Liadrin as her deputy, and warned them to withdraw if the demons attacked.
  • Thrall, Grom, and Varok met Dick at his camp, where he reported that the injured Mannoroth was hiding in Flameblade Canyon.
  • Grom, Varok, and Thrall told Dick to stay out of their hunt, but Norgannon’s quest ordered him to join the Demon-Slaying War and ensure Mannoroth’s death.

Ch. 120Demon-slaying (part two)

Dick and the allied orc, elven, and human forces launched a coordinated assault on Flameblade Canyon to kill Mannoroth and end the orcs’ Poisonblood Disease. After reaching the hollow, the Heroes engaged Mannoroth, and the battle began with Thrall shattering the demon’s Meteor Fall.

  • Maiev and Mirana’s Wardens signaled that they had assassinated the demon commanders, prompting Dick and the allied forces to charge into Flameblade Canyon.
  • Dick left Erigor in command of the advancing knights and raced deeper into the canyon with Thrall, Grom, Varok, and the Sentinel rogue Barnes.
  • The group found Mannoroth in the ravaged hollow, where the Wardens had been holding him in check, and Dick recognized the demon as a true Epic Hero.
  • Grom wounded Mannoroth’s forehoof, and Mannoroth answered by summoning a meteor.
  • Thrall struck the meteor with repeated lightning attacks until it shattered, marking the start of the battle to slay Mannoroth.

Ch. 121Demon-slaying (Part Two)

Dick joined Thrall, Grom, Varok, and the Wardens in their desperate attack on the wounded Mannoroth. After the demon ignited the fel blood inside Grom and Varok, he turned his power on everyone else, leaving Dick covered in dark green blood as the chapter ended.

  • Grom attacked Mannoroth’s left hoof while Varok shielded him from the Pit Lord’s tail, allowing Thrall to summon the elements and charge.
  • Dick’s Silver Hand flared with Holy Power, and he joined the assault, striking Mannoroth’s wounded hoof as the Wardens widened his injuries.
  • Mannoroth unleashed fel energy from the ground, but Grom climbed onto his head and struck him repeatedly before slashing his eye.
  • Varok leaped in and struck Mannoroth’s wrist, disarming him, but the Pit Lord ignited the demon blood inside Grom and Varok, causing them to collapse.
  • Mannoroth declared that his power covered everyone and ignited the blood of the others, while Dick realized dark green blood covered his body.

Ch. 122No one lives forever

Mannoroth’s blood detonations left Dick, Thrall, Grom, and the others near death, but Dick urged Grom to rise by telling him that his son Garrosh was alive. Thrall and Grom helped bring Mannoroth down, then Dick’s body was taken over by an unknown force that drained the Pit Lord and restored its vital signs.

  • Mannoroth detonated the blood on his enemies, incapacitating Thrall, Grom, Varok, and Dick, while Dick realized the blasts also damaged Mannoroth himself.
  • Unable to move, Dick crawled to Grom and poured holy power into him, urging him to fight and telling him that Garrosh was alive in Nagrand.
  • Thrall struck Mannoroth with lightning, and Grom rose and attacked the Pit Lord with his battle-axe.
  • Dick blinded Mannoroth with Holy Shock, allowing Grom to drive his axe into the Pit Lord’s head and kill him.
  • An unknown force took control of Dick’s body, pierced Mannoroth with black tendrils, and drained him as Dick’s vital signs recovered.

Ch. 123The End of a Hero

After waking from the Demon-Slaying War, Dick discovered his stamina had greatly increased and learned that Anveena was struggling to bond with his Holy Hammer. He saw that Fandral Staghelm had drained Mannoroth’s body, then attended Grom Hellscream’s funeral, where Thrall entrusted him with Gorehowl to find its next worthy owner.

  • Dick woke in pain three days after the war and found that his stamina had risen to 1150.
  • Anveena told Dick that she was becoming more compatible with the Holy Hammer and needed time to complete their connection.
