Background

Amaterasu Kong came from a branch of the imperial family and spent centuries cultivating, eventually becoming Kyoto’s governor. As a young cultivator, she secured a rare opportunity to enter the Astral Realm through the Star Gate, obtaining the complete laws necessary to become a complete Fourth Tier being 333 347.

Her preparations against the Divine Envoys extended over generations. She spent two hundred years cultivating Satoshi Maeda as a mole within the Star Gate Faction. She also benefited from support outside Sakura Continent, including a jade bottle gifted by an elder from the Central Continent 190 194.

Appearance

  • Adult form: Long golden hair, brilliant golden eyes likened to eternal stars, fair skin, and an exceptionally beautiful face. She wears a white robe and ordinarily conceals her face behind hazy radiance 191 192.
  • During battle: Golden flames surround her body when she burns her lifespan to fight the Divine Envoys 338.
  • After nirvana: Approximately 1.3 meters tall, with long golden hair, golden eyes, rounded cheeks, and a child’s rosy complexion. She wears a snow-white gown and is initially shown barefoot 346.

Personality

Amaterasu Kong is proud, composed, and intensely devoted to pursuing the Dao. She initially treats almost everything—including other people’s lives—as expendable beside that conviction. Even when confronted with the deaths caused by her plan, she maintains that the participants willingly accepted the gamble for a chance at liberation 338 347.

Her ruthlessness is paired with patience and practical intelligence. She cultivates long-term agents, exploits weaknesses in the Divine Envoys’ surveillance, and accepts Lu You’s refusal to cooperate without abandoning her larger objective. When faced with the much stronger Changming Clan, she immediately considers outside assistance rather than insisting on an unwinnable fight 190 193 353.

Her dependence on others after nirvana reveals a more irritable and vulnerable side. She resents being teased or treated as a doll, but finds being cared for unfamiliar rather than wholly unpleasant. By the time of the Changming Clan crisis, she privately recognizes Lu You as a friend and urges him to preserve his life even if Blue Star falls 347 352 353.

Abilities & Skills

Psychic Energy and Close Combat

Amaterasu Kong combines overwhelming cultivation with precise movement and powerful palm strikes 191 337.

  • Evades Lu You’s successive close-range attacks and stops Tusita Palace with her fingers while remaining stationary 191.
  • Casually disperses his soul-targeting slashes and destroys the Sword Mound Great Dao Realm with the same motion 191.
  • After reaching the Fifth Tier, strikes hard enough to make Yu vomit blood; Yu compares her pressure to that of Qiong, his clan’s strongest fighter 337.
  • Her newly attained Fifth Tier strength does not allow her to overcome three Fifth Tier enemies together 338 340.

Restoration and Energy Purification

  • Repairs the shattered academy dais, heals Satoshi Maeda, and removes hostile Psychic Energy from his body 189.
  • Immediately heals the shallow wound inflicted by Lu You’s Kamishini no Yari 191.
  • Neutralizes its poison in under a minute, severing Lu You’s contact with it 191.
  • Her regeneration fails as her vitality approaches exhaustion during the Divine Envoys’ battle 340.

Spatial and Temporal Interaction

  • Transports Lu You from his dormitory into an unfamiliar wilderness and returns him afterward 191 193.
  • Her Fifth Tier palm strikes disrupt the River of Time strongly enough to attract the attention of ancient powerhouses 337.
  • Enters the world’s River of Time while pursuing Yu and encounters a human powerhouse from the future, but fails to catch her target 338.

Lifespan Burning

Amaterasu Kong burns her own life to continue fighting when surrounded by the Divine Envoys 338.

  • The technique envelops her in golden fire and rapidly consumes a Fifth Tier god’s normally immense vitality 338.
  • Prolonged use exhausts her remaining years and produces the Five Signs of Decay 341.
  • She ultimately requires nirvana to survive the resulting loss of lifespan 345 346.

Rebirth Through Nirvana

  • Abandons her cultivation to begin another life in a child’s body 346.
  • The process produces distorted space, increasing heat, golden flames, and intertwined sensations of life and death; the phenomena disappear after Lu You keeps watch for ten days 346.
  • Leaves her temporarily defenseless and damages her foundations, delaying her return to the Fifth Tier 347.

Espionage and Strategic Planning

  • Maintains Satoshi Maeda as an agent inside the Star Gate Faction 190.
  • Gradually arranges for experienced Divine Envoys monitoring Blue Star’s origin to be replaced by inexperienced personnel, creating an opportunity for her breakthrough 353.
  • Proposes using captured adventurers’ warship to contact the Astral Realm Human Race and studying the vessel to develop Blue Star’s own ships 353.

Equipment & Resources

  • Replica Heaven-Controlling Jade Bottle (Red): Also called the imitation Heaven-Grasping Jade Bottle. Originally given to her by a Central Continent elder to encourage her cultivation; she later gives it to Lu You 191 192 194.
  • Psychic Energy potions: Uses cultivation resources while recovering from nirvana. Lu You supplies additional potions obtained from the Old Principal 348 354.
  • Tower of the Sun: Her residence and recovery site in Kyoto. Lu You strengthens its protective barrier while she is vulnerable 346 347.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Kyoto Academy’s Founding

Amaterasu Kong oversees Kyoto Academy’s opening and invites public nominations for its principal, declaring that reputation and factional background alone cannot determine the appointment. When Satoshi Maeda attacks Lu You over his father’s involvement in the Devouring Abyss Incident, Lu You defeats him before the assembled factions. Amaterasu Kong offers Lu You the principalship, which he declines, then repairs the damage and heals Maeda 188 189.

She subsequently visits Lu You’s dormitory and admits that Maeda is her mole. Their confrontation leads to a fight in which she decisively overpowers him. After acknowledging his potential and apologizing over Maeda’s involvement, she gives him the red jade bottle and explains the Divine Envoys’ exploitation of humanity 190 191 192.

The Kyoto War Plan

Amaterasu Kong intends to turn Kyoto into a battlefield between the three major factions. Escalating casualties would force the Divine Envoys to dispatch an emissary, whom her side could control to buy time for her Fifth Tier breakthrough. She estimates a forty-percent chance of defeating the Divine Envoys after ascending and states that supporters in the Central Continent and America back her gamble 193.

Lu You refuses to help start the war because of his obligations to the Academia Faction and Kaguya Clan, though he swears not to expose their conversation. Amaterasu Kong accepts the refusal, remarking that it will merely delay her preparations. Over the following three years, Kyoto’s factional conflict intensifies 193 194.

Ascension and the Divine Envoys’ Attack

As Amaterasu Kong begins her breakthrough, Blue Star’s experts gather to defend her. Zhao Donglai delays the incoming Divine Envoys through the Star Gate, while Mentor and other defenders struggle to hold their enemies back. Amaterasu Kong completes her ascension, but three Fifth Tier Divine Envoys—Xing, Yu, and Qiong—have arrived rather than the single opponent her allies hoped to face 333 334 336.

She initially overwhelms Yu before the other two join him. Burning her lifespan, she continues fighting until her vitality and regeneration nearly fail. The Divine Envoys broadcast her intended execution worldwide and attack from a distance to avoid a desperate counterattack. Lu You arrives in time to shatter Qiong’s spear before it kills her 337 338 340 341.

Nirvana and Recovery

After the battle, Lu You visits the Tower of the Sun expecting to say farewell to the dying governor. Instead, he discovers that she has survived through nirvana. He humiliates her by spanking her, later explaining that his anger concerns the danger her gamble created for people he cared about, not merely their earlier fight 346 347.

With her cultivation lost, Amaterasu Kong accepts his protection. Kaguya Ruri becomes her caregiver under a concealed identity, and Lu You entrusts Blue Star’s future protection to her while arranging resources for her recovery 347 348.

The Changming Clan Threat

After learning that the Changming Clan claims Blue Star and possesses a Fifth Tier Invincible, Amaterasu Kong proposes contacting the Astral Realm Human Race. She advises Lu You to leave if necessary and survive to seek revenge should Blue Star be destroyed. When he instead promises to become an Invincible himself, she asks how she can help and resumes rebuilding her cultivation 353 354.

Relationships

  • Lu You — Initially a recruitment target and unwilling opponent; later her rescuer, protector, and friend. Their cooperation remains marked by arguments, teasing, and disagreement over acceptable sacrifices 190 193 341 347 353.
  • Satoshi Maeda — Her long-cultivated mole in the Star Gate Faction. His public attack on Lu You exposes the conflict between her plans and Lu You’s personal boundaries 188 190.
  • Kaguya Ruri — Caregiver during her post-nirvana recovery. Ruri feeds, holds, and dresses her, finding the childlike Amaterasu familiar without initially being told her identity 347 352 353.
  • Zhao Donglai — A rival who nevertheless helps delay the Divine Envoys during her breakthrough. After the war, Zhao asks whether Amaterasu has died, and Lu You notices that the question carries concealed emotion 334 349.
  • Mentor — Helps buy time for her ascension. Although he realizes that she used the Academia and Star Gate factions, he considers the birth of a Fifth Tier worth the sacrifice 336.
  • Xing, Yu, and Qiong — Divine Envoy enemies who surround her, force her to burn her lifespan, and attempt to make her execution a worldwide spectacle 338 340.
