Background / History

Transmigration and the Star Dou Great Forest

Lu Ren was preparing for college graduation before dying after becoming enraged by the later plot of the second Douluo Continent novel. He awakened on the Douluo Continent in a thirteen-year-old body, without parents or family. His system supplied a Yuji Itadori template, allowing him to develop a cultivation method that combined Soul Power with Cursed Energy 1.

After Shrek students attempted to take a Soul Beast from him, Lu Ren began robbing students from the academy. He eventually defeated Bei Bei, Xu Sanshi, and Tang Ya, taking the boys’ Storage Soul Tools, money, and pills while returning the Tang Sect manuals and weapons he considered worthless. Their anger and humiliation also supplied Cursed Energy 1 2 3.

Electrolux’s remnant soul subsequently entered his Sea of Consciousness. Recognizing him from the original story, Lu Ren regarded him as a major opportunity. He deliberately avoided pursuing the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm because he feared attracting Tang San’s scrutiny 3.

Interference at Shrek

Lu Ren infiltrated Shrek’s Outer Court while posing as a sixth-year senior. During freshman registration, he publicly exposed Wang Dong’er’s male disguise and prevented her from entering the boys’ dormitory. His purpose was to disrupt her original relationship with Huo Yuhao before leaving for the Sun Moon Empire 4 5.

Recruitment by the Sun Moon Academy

Upon reaching Mingdu, Lu Ren attacked Wang Shaojie to draw the attention of the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy’s administration. Physical testing revealed a rank-44 Soul Ancestor whose strength and resilience exceeded a device capable of measuring Soul Emperors, attracting Jing Hongchen’s personal interest 6 8.

Lu Ren negotiated for Jing Hongchen to seek a Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bone if he demonstrated the ability to defeat Shrek at the coming tournament. To establish his worth, he defended an arena against the academy’s challengers and won seventy-eight consecutive matches, ending with a victory over Ji Juechen 10 17.

Jing Hongchen concealed Lu Ren’s presence from Shrek’s investigators and supplied protection, accommodation, and cultivation resources. Lu Ren also reached an agreement with Electrolux: he would share Cursed Energy to keep the remnant soul conscious, while Electrolux would help him refine and control that energy 17 18 20 24.

Imperial Inspection Team Incident

Wang Shaojie later brought the Imperial Family Inspection Team to arrest Lu Ren for assault. Lu Ren initially cooperated, but broke the Soul Power-suppressing handcuffs after leaving the academy and defeated the accompanying Soul Kings and Soul Emperors 25 26 27.

Against the team’s Level 7 Soul Engineer, Lu Ren combined blood armor, Piercing Blood, concealment, and a poisoned blood blade. He incapacitated the opponent and called on Jing Hongchen to handle the aftermath 28.

Binding Xuan Zi to a Wager

When Xuan Zi attempted to recruit him for Shrek, Lu Ren refused and proposed a tournament wager. If Lu Ren led Sun Moon to victory over Shrek, Xuan Zi would deliver a Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bone within one year after the tournament. If Lu Ren failed, he would join Shrek and obey its demands. Lu Ren sealed the agreement with a Binding Vow, preventing Xuan Zi from treating it as an unenforceable promise 34 35 37.

Xuan Zi then tried to take him to Shrek so that he could join another team before the tournament. Lu Ren activated the academy’s alarm through blood left on a Soul Tool and concealed himself in a sea of blood. Xuan Zi could not distinguish his actual body from the identical presence carried by every drop 37.

Holy Spirit Cult Raid and First Followers

After beginning necromancy lessons with Electrolux, Lu Ren took Ji Juechen into Mingdu to cultivate and seek opponents. Following concentrations of Cursed Energy, he located a Holy Spirit Cult stronghold and discovered that Reverse Cursed Technique could collapse an Evil Soul Master’s power and Martial Soul 39 42 43.

The pair destroyed the branch, with Lu Ren defeating its Soul Saint elder and killing its remaining followers. He also freed the enslaved Holy Servants and helped release their loved ones’ souls from the cult’s control 45 47 48 49.

Nana and eight other survivors pledged to follow him. Lu Ren decided to use their support as the beginning of his own faction, conceal their survival from the cult, and avoid involving the academy in a matter that might draw him into imperial politics. He supplied money for their accommodation and a Communication Soul Tool for future contact 49 50.

Appearance

Personality

Lu Ren is calculating, provocative, and openly contemptuous of institutions he considers hypocritical. His insults often serve a practical purpose: humiliating Shrek disciples generates negative emotions that he can absorb as Cursed Energy. He also exploits arrogance and differences in status, most notably by turning Xuan Zi’s confidence into a binding contractual disadvantage 3 36.

His boldness is tempered by caution. He avoids the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm because of the risk of divine attention, seeks Jing Hongchen’s protection before Shrek can act against him, and conceals Cursed Energy behind explanations familiar to local soul masters 3 18 28 30.

He values repayment of kindness. The academy’s investment prompts him to consider saving the Hongchen family from its original fate, and he takes Meng Hongchen’s training seriously despite initially maintaining an emotional distance. When she asks to accompany him in the future, he worries about exposing her to his dangerous path rather than simply accepting her devotion 25 32.
