Personality

Meng Hongchen is courteous and more cautious than her older brother. She promises to take Jing Hongchen’s assignment seriously, considers making extra preparations against Lu Ren, and later apologizes for Xiao Hongchen’s arrogance. Her curiosity does not override her manners: when Lu Ren evades questions about his power, she knows not to press him 10 11 21.

Her attraction to Lu Ren makes her blush, become distracted, and worry about their eventual separation. She admires not only his appearance and strength but also his restraint and respect for personal boundaries. Despite her shyness around him, she openly confronts the Imperial Family Inspection Team when they attempt to arrest him 23 25 31 32.

• Lu Ren’s physique completely counters her poison, allowing him to remain unharmed after standing inside the mist 14.

Academy Arena Challenge

Jing Hongchen summons Meng Hongchen and Xiao Hongchen to challenge the newly recruited Lu Ren. His purpose is to test Lu Ren while giving his grandchildren experience against a powerful Soul Master before the tournament. He later explains that their previously smooth upbringing has left Xiao Hongchen especially arrogant 10 14.

After watching her brother fall to a single punch, Meng Hongchen doubts she can win but enters at her grandfather’s insistence. Her poisonous mist proves ineffective. Lu Ren then uses invisible slashes to close off her attacks and drive her to the platform’s edge in roughly thirty seconds. Rather than injuring her, he steadies her arm and gently guides her off the platform; she thanks him afterward 14 15.

Growing Closeness to Lu Ren

The following morning, Meng Hongchen joins Lu Ren for breakfast, apologizes for her brother, and relays Jing Hongchen’s warning that Shrek has taken an interest in him. Her curiosity about his unexplained strength develops into admiration 21.

When Wang Shaojie threatens retaliation, Jing Hongchen orders Lu Ren to remain beside her around the clock, expecting her family status to deter the Imperial Family Inspection Team. She subsequently accompanies Lu Ren around the academy, helps him arrange his preferred cultivation environment, and receives regular cultivation and combat instruction from him 23 24 25.

Imperial Family Inspection Team Incident

Meng Hongchen stands in front of Lu Ren when the inspection team arrives, accuses them of using public office to settle Wang Shaojie’s private grudge, and invokes her grandfather’s authority. Lu Ren nevertheless agrees to accompany them and tells her to follow their earlier plan 25 26.

She alerts Jing Hongchen, then catches up with Lu Ren, Ji Juechen, and Jing Ziyan outside the academy. Xu Mochén explicitly warns his companions not to harm her because of her grandfather’s position. Lu Ren also tells her to stay out of the battle so he will not need to protect her 26 27.

Request to Travel Together

Concerned that graduation might separate them permanently, Meng Hongchen asks Lu Ren to take her along if he leaves. He makes her ability to protect herself the condition for traveling together and offers continued cultivation guidance 31 32.

Over the following month, she reaches level fifty ahead of her brother’s emergence from seclusion, though she still needs a fifth Soul Ring 32.

Relationships

• Jing Hongchen — Her affectionate grandfather and the master of Illustrious Virtue Hall. He encourages her to learn from Lu Ren and uses her protected family position to help shield him from imperial interference 14 23.
