Background & History

Brilliant Cave and Sableye Mother

Before meeting Ye Yinchuan, Sableye lived in Brilliant Cave under the protection of its mother. Its mother searched for the best gems for it while consuming inferior ore herself, taught it how to find food and use illusions, and repeatedly shielded it from danger. 501

When Team Shadow imprisoned Sableye Mother in a Laser Cage, Sableye began trapping intruders in illusions to stop them from leaving the cave. It initially mistook Ye Yinchuan's group for allies of its mother's captors, but was primarily trying to secure help for her rescue. 288 289

Ye Yinchuan pacified Sableye by offering raw gems, demonstrating hostility toward Team Shadow, and promising to help its mother. Sableye then guided the group through its illusionary maze to the Laser Cage. 288 289

Joining Ye Yinchuan

After Sableye Mother was freed, the two Sableye showed gratitude by offering Ye Yinchuan a large pink disc diamond. The younger Sableye voluntarily entered Ye's Poké Ball, becoming part of his team, while its mother remained in Brilliant Cave. 290 291

Sableye adapted quickly to life with Ye Yinchuan, though it worried about being sent away and hoped that its mother could eventually live with them. Ye later returned to Brilliant Cave and reunited the mother and child. 326 439

Jewel Kingdom Mission

Exploring deeper into Brilliant Cave, Sableye and its mother discovered a sealed Mega Sableye revered as an ancestor. The ancient Mega Sableye revealed that the Sableye clan had long maintained the seal around the corrupted Jewel Kingdom and awaited the birth of a new Diancie. 445 446

Sableye accepted the responsibility of helping save the Jewel Kingdom. Doing so would free its clan from having to sustain the seal and allow it to remain with its mother without either being forced to replace the ancient guardian. 446 448 468

Appearance

In its ordinary form, Sableye is a small, hunched Dark/Ghost-type Pokémon with gem-like eyes, a dim red gem in its chest, sharp teeth, and long antenna-like ears. Its body markings differ according to the types and quantities of gems it has consumed. 288 289

Personality

Sableye is greedy for gems and initially enjoys frightening others, but its behavior is fundamentally childlike rather than malicious. It obeys its mother's teachings, fears hostile humans, and was willing to use its illusions against strangers solely because it wanted to rescue her. 288 501

It is affectionate toward Ye Yinchuan and becomes eager to please after joining his team. Its attachment to both Ye and Sableye Mother drives much of its growth, particularly its determination to protect them and fulfill the Sableye clan's duty. 326 468 503

Sableye is fiercely protective. It reacts aggressively toward threats to its mother, Ye Yinchuan, or valuable resources entrusted to him, even when it must be corrected about the true identity of an enemy. 440
