Background
Litten was a stray encountered by Ye Yinchuan near a gym. Before becoming homeless, it had possessed a Trainer and displayed unusually strong Fire-type talent. However, it accidentally burned that Trainer with Ember, was reprimanded afterward, and fled in guilt and fear. The incident left it reluctant to use Fire-type moves and unable to shed its fur through flame, later obstructing its evolution 132 169.
While living as a stray, Litten slept under bridges, fought other strays for food, and scavenged scraps. Its selective eating made survival especially difficult. Its experiences made it wary, proud, and highly motivated to become stronger 84 130 156.
Ye Yinchuan first approached it with Pokémon Food, gradually earning its trust despite Litten's suspicion of human contact. When two Houndour pursued it, Ye Yinchuan and Little Snorlax protected it; the experience convinced Litten that they were friends. Ye later used Heavenly Hand of Cares to fully tame it, after which Litten moved into his home and accepted Snorlax as a companion 84 115 116.
During training, Ye Yinchuan learned the cause of Litten's trauma through Heart of Listening. Rather than forcing it to use flames, he let Litten decide whether to continue Fire-type training. Litten chose to confront its fear, eventually regaining control over Ember and learning that its flames could protect as well as harm 132 133.
After repeated training and Overlord's Shadow battles, Litten reached the point of evolution but remained stuck because it had not shed its fur. Bai Zhi identified the missing condition, and Litten burned away its old coat under Ye Yinchuan's guidance, evolving into Incineroar 169.
Appearance
As Litten, Sang Biao resembled a small black kitten with tiger-like markings and an aloof feline expression. Its later Incineroar form was substantially larger and more muscular, retaining a similar black back marking while developing a flame-storing organ around its neck 82 169.
- Predominantly black fur, with fiery-red facial, forehead, limb-ring, whisker, and paw-pad markings 82.
- Forehead marking resembles an incomplete 丰 character and evokes a tiger's “王” marking 82.
- Large, unusually shaped eyes: flat across the top and round beneath, with yellow sclerae and narrow vertical pupils 82.
- Spiky fur tufts between the ears and at the tail tip 82.
- Incineroar form has a more developed torso and limbs, prominent sharp claws, upright mane, and a bell-like Flame Sac that stores and releases fire 169.
Personality
Litten is proud, Adamant, and tsundere. It initially distrusts people, reacts sharply to unwanted attention, and maintains an outwardly aloof demeanor. Despite this, it is affectionate toward those it accepts and gradually comes to regard Ye Yinchuan's home as a place of warmth, friendship, and belonging 83 116 133 156.
Its street life and pursuit by Houndour gave it a strong desire for power. Litten is especially competitive with Snorlax and holds a grudge against Houndour, which Ye Yinchuan uses as motivation during training 130 132.
In battle, Litten is tenacious and refuses to surrender easily. Even severely injured during its duel with Overlord's Shadow, it continued fighting, adapted to its opponent's tactics, and counterattacked with its own improvised technique 158.
Abilities & Skills
Intimidate
A rare Hidden Ability among Litten that frightens nearby opponents, lowers their physical attack, and can interfere with their actions through fear 83.
- Particularly effective against early-stage opponents that rely on physical attacks.
- Can affect more than one nearby target.
- Its effectiveness falls sharply if the opponent's presence overwhelms Litten or if they possess abilities such as Oblivious or Guts 83.
- After evolving, Incineroar's powerful aura and Intimidate scared away wild Pokémon in Dragonveil Forest 329.
Fire-Type Energy and Ember
Litten has exceptionally high Fire-type affinity and abundant energy reserves, but its past accident initially made it unable to use Ember reliably 132 133.
- Regained the ability to use Ember freely through gradual exposure training and Ye Yinchuan's encouragement 133.
- Can regulate Ember's power when emotionally stable 133.
- Learned to exchange fireballs and fire while moving during its battle against Overlord's Shadow, though its shadow demonstrated superior aerial casting and precision 158.
- Fire-type resistance reduced the severity of burns caused by its own Fire-type shadow opponent 158.
Scratch and Close-Quarters Combat
Scratch is Litten's most practiced and dependable move. Ye Yinchuan taught it to concentrate power into individual strikes rather than dispersing it through uncontrolled barrages 132.
- A focused Scratch could shatter or split a wooden stake 132.
- Uses Pokémon Energy to enhance the force and sharpness of its claws 133.
- Can potentially be trained to carry Fire-type effects, increasing power and adding burns 132.
- Developed its own “Sang Biao Shadowless Kick,” a midair barrage of kicks and scratches inspired by its former fighting habits 132 158.
- The technique improved after its Scratch training but still sacrifices concentrated damage for a flurry of attacks 132 158.
Growl, Lick, and Bite
Litten initially had limited practical experience with Growl, Lick, and Ember, relying overwhelmingly on its self-developed claw attacks 132.
- Growl can disrupt an opponent's concentration or frighten them when reinforced with Pokémon Energy, though Litten's timing and range were initially mediocre 133.
- Lick is difficult for Litten because it requires Ghost-type energy, which does not naturally align with its Fire typing 132.
- Learned Bite after reaching Level 17 through Overlord's Shadow training 169.
Relationships
- Ye Yinchuan — Trainer and adoptive caretaker. Ye earned Litten's trust through food, protection, patience, and Heavenly Hand of Cares; Litten later chose to remain with him despite its initial wariness 84 115 116 133.
- Little Snorlax — Friend, housemate, training rival, and protector. Snorlax shielded Litten from the Houndour and later blocked an uncontrolled Ember during its recovery training 115 116 133.
- Bai Zhi — Helped identify Litten's blocked evolution condition, explaining that it needed to shed its fur through fire 169.
- Houndour — Former pursuers and Litten's personal imaginary enemies; Litten retains resentment toward them after being chased by two Houndour 115 132.
- Rowlet — Younger teammate whom Litten curiously inspected after its hatching 169.
