Background / History
Survival in the Dark Prison
Lu Xiao spent more than three years in the Dark Prison before encountering the containment team. During that time, he survived numerous monsters and bizarre creatures, although the territory he explored represented only a small part of the prison 2 28.
Chainsaw Man became his first friend there after reattaching his broken leg. Chainsaw Man also shared anomalous flesh with him, giving Lu Xiao a taste for eating anomalies 17 258.
When the containment team found him, his bloodied appearance, knife, and unsettling smile prompted them to shoot before he could introduce himself. He survived and was carried out while stuffing gauze into his bullet wounds 1 2.
Containment at C03
The facility registered Lu Xiao as Serial Number 292, “The Lost Human,” initially leaving his abilities and containment requirements undetermined. He objected to the word “lost” but could not settle on a replacement 6.
Testing established that he showed no inclination to escape and no malice toward humans. Even when deprived of food, he remained manageable; after eating an experimental banquet, he simply returned to his room. His containment conditions were reduced to feeding him adequately and not deliberately provoking him 16.
Lu Xiao wanted opportunities to visit the real world, and the Doctor offered containment missions as a way to obtain them. His anomalous flesh and blood soon made him valuable to researchers and field teams alike 19 20 105.
Lu Qian and the Facility
Lu Xiao became Lu Qian’s father figure, teaching her how to address people and behave inside the facility. When warned that her Affinity ability might destroy C03, he refused to sacrifice her, despite also being unwilling to abandon the friends he had made there 87 93 162.
His protectiveness made removing Lu Qian politically and practically untenable: offending him would cost the organization more than losing a single containment facility. The Doctor instead sought to twist the predicted outcome rather than prevent it outright 162.
Dreamscape, Altered History, and Memory Loss
During a dreamscape experience, Lu Xiao joined the Frontline Combat Team and trained under Doctor Li’s supervision. Shadow later recognized connections between Lu Xiao’s experiences and a past from which traces of Lu Xiao’s existence had disappeared 154 211 219.
After an experiment revealed the apotheosis path, Lu Xiao climbed its staircase as his companions forgot him. He left his left eye for Doctor Li, his heart for the Captain, and a mask made from his facial skin for Zhang Chu. The subsequent encounter with another Lu Xiao confronted him with altered history and memories that did not originally belong to him 243 245.
Back at C03, his curse erupted completely. Shuns devised Finding the Lost One, a plan to reenact important encounters from Lu Xiao’s life and rebuild the relationships anchoring his humanity. The attempt went off script when Lu Xiao became violent, but his renewed friendship with Chainsaw Man echoed their original meeting 246 247 250 258.
Lu Xiao eventually admitted that he remembered nothing. Shadow and Bai Suoyi helped fill those gaps by recounting their pasts and explaining his relationships; Zhang Chu’s memories and Shadow’s memory fragments also supplied information he could no longer recall firsthand 262 308 322 464.
Deification and Hell
Shadow arranged a target for Lu Xiao’s Deification Ritual. The ritual required him to kill a true deity without assistance and consume it whole, a feat the Doctor later associated with “miracles” 238 452 498.
In Hell, Lu Xiao negotiated with Ruiqi for the Succubus Clan’s worship, offered to kill a deity in return, and taught her a blood-written ritual for contacting him as Man-made Calamity 523 539.
His activities also supported humanity’s wider survival. He assisted research into mobile bases and biomechanical armor, and later agreed without conditions to shelter approximately one hundred thousand Demons in the Present World while humanity prepared to migrate to Hell 490 613 995.
Mother God Elf Politics and Later Years
After becoming a Councilor, Lu Xiao worked with Liu Ni on policies intended to win the Mother God Elves’ support. Twenty years later, he took office in Sailai County and prepared to challenge the Andreiro Family’s control, securing Morningstar’s assistance and Mad Tiger’s protection 1441.
His successful tenure earned strong local support and helped secure approval for his appointment as Pulixidian’s next City Administrator. Rather than immediately taking office, he studied the capital’s interests, reconciled with Andrelo, and planned to work with the Warden 1458.
After reaching the threshold of Old One ascension, he returned to Earth and entered the Antie Organization’s accelerated combat training. By the final extra chapter, the Human Faction was traveling through subspace in search of another universe, while Lu Xiao struggled to keep up with a crowded schedule of personal appointments 1501 1573.
Appearance
- Eyes and expression: Frequently described as having dead-fish eyes and a grin he considers handsome, though others often find it frightening 1 6 228.
- Initial condition: Found with filth and clotted blood on his face, blood around his mouth, and extensive wounds across his back 1 4.
- Regeneration: Can temporarily appear skeletal or severely decomposed before his flesh regrows. His face visibly reconstructs itself after a shot from the Corrupted Revolver 262 495.
- Disguises: Uses Liu Guang’s face and repeatedly impersonates a Minotaur; he can remove a disguise to reveal his human appearance 504 514 1266 1282.
Personality
Lu Xiao is friendly, curious, and eager for companionship, but his behavior often alarms the people around him. After three years without seeing humans, simply hearing human voices comforts him. He readily cooperates with research—even cutting flesh from his own chest and offering to provide more—without recognizing how disturbing this appears to the staff 4.
He distinguishes sharply between friends and potential food. Although attracted to Lucilla’s anomalous scent, he decides that a friend’s friend cannot be eaten. His loyalty is especially pronounced toward Lu Qian, whom he refuses to surrender even when her ability threatens C03 162 228.
His apparent recklessness coexists with tactical caution. He sometimes uses self-injury casually, yet he also studies enemies before engaging them and considers possible mishaps rather than charging blindly 95 549. He increasingly adopts manipulation and half-truths, including impersonating Shadow to gain Dan Guofeng’s trust 553.
Lu Xiao fears losing his identity more than bodily injury. He explicitly rejects the prospect of becoming mindless rotten flesh, and later limits his absorption of Morningstar’s memories to avoid becoming unable to distinguish himself from her 33 1345.
As a father, he is affectionate but frequently out of his depth. His attempt to bond through horror movies unsettles Lu Qian, and supervising her homework reveals that he cannot understand it. Nevertheless, he accepts Xiao Yu’s advice to treat his daughters as individuals 896.
Abilities & Skills
Regeneration and Physical Strength
Lu Xiao’s defining early ability is rapid recovery, stronger than the regeneration possessed by many other Weird Life forms 16 217.
- Survives numerous bullet wounds and remains conscious enough to complain and treat himself 1 2.
- Regrows lost flesh and reconstructs his face after extensive damage 322 495.
- Before using Protagonist, can carry more than a ton without feeling strained; afterward, estimates that his strength has at least tripled 218.
- Remains vulnerable to pain and injury despite his recovery 45.
- Breaks through a King-level sea turtle’s protective membrane and fights it inside its shell for two hours, with its weakening roars suggesting he has gained the advantage 377.
Anomaly-Harming Flesh and Blood
The Doctor attributes Lu Xiao’s ability to physically injure Weird Life to his curse 17.
- Tears Butler apart despite its immunity to conventional physical methods 17.
- His blood damages anomalies more effectively than his flesh; a blood-coated bullet kills Butler when fired against its forehead 20.
- His flesh and blood contain divinity, described by the Prison Doctor as pure 92 359.
- Repeatedly feeding his regenerating flesh to a Hell Worm causes it to grow and mutate 732.
- His blood is dangerous to others: He Shang becomes monstrous after injecting himself with it 211.
Eye of Truth
After using the Eye of Truth, Lu Xiao can perceive manifestations of otherwise intangible abilities and suppress their operation 218.
- Sees threads connecting Shadow’s head to his own 218.
- Suppresses Shadow’s ability by looking at him with the eye 218.
- Prevents a ritual target from using its abilities against him, forcing it to attack physically 452.
Instigation
Lu Xiao uses Instigation to influence others and draw out additional potential 523 652.
- Combines his ability, bribery, and misleading information to secure Ruiqi’s cooperation 523.
- Raises the Minotaurs’ potential beyond what imminent danger has already elicited 652.
- The enhancement draws on life force in advance; normally, recipients would die or go mad afterward 652.
- Niu Ben and the accompanying Minotaurs show neither expected consequence, puzzling Lu Xiao 652.
Lies and Declared Effects
Lu Xiao is described as being able to use lies to make events proceed according to his wishes 575.
- Declares that he can amplify disasters ten thousandfold, then bites into his heart while Calamity controls a hurricane 524.
- Uses carefully mixed truths and falsehoods in ordinary deception, notably when impersonating Shadow 553.
- His explanation of belief-dependent lies describes how such powers can escalate through increasingly convincing claims; it should not be confused with proof that every statement he makes automatically becomes reality 497.
Consciousness and Mental Power
Lu Xiao’s mental power is significant enough that Doctor Li requests the highest conductivity for his custom weapon rather than specifying an ordinary output level 194.
- Projects a wisp of consciousness into Morningstar’s forehead to contact her 1334.
- Merges his entire consciousness with Morningstar’s and takes control of her World God body, separating two giant worms and attacking with a golden star 1335.
- Risks entrapment, parasitic infection, and destabilization of his identity through that merger 1335 1345.
- Can supply the First Prototype with energy from his Consciousness World; operating it at full power also disrupts the expanding point of light representing Night 796.
- God ascension brings greatly increased consciousness and mental power, including passive mental corruption 920.
Perception, Concealment, and Faith
- Anomalous perception: Identifies Butler by smell and senses distant malice while searching for Dart 17 105.
- Presence concealment: Uses his authority to hide his presence while following a suspicious researcher 900.
- Faith reception: Receives faith power as a consumable reserve that temporarily enhances combat strength 1437.
- Ritual contact: Teaches Ruiqi to contact him by writing a Chinese sentence in blood under his honorific name, Man-made Calamity 539.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Bone Spur — Used in self-stabbing techniques associated with large-area crowd control. Allies warn that careless use could release contained anomalies. Later handed to the Doctor with a high-level gravity authority for integration into biomechanical armor 70 95 613.
- Corrupted Revolver / Serial Number 097 — Fires at the cost of the wielder’s flesh and blood. Demonstrated properties include piercing and destruction; firing also carries fear and corruption-related hazards. Lu Xiao eventually retires it because its cost remains high while its effectiveness against comparable opponents has declined 45 59 613.
- Protagonist / Sequence Number 05 — A heart that replaces its user’s heart and grants enhancement. Its ordinary documented use lasts ten minutes and carries a price; Lu Xiao experiences major improvements in strength and healing after using it 215 218.
- Eye of Truth / Sequence Number 06 — An implanted eye used to perceive and suppress abilities 215 218.
- Omniscient Mirror — Answers questions for bodily payments, frequently Lu Xiao’s fingernails. He uses it to investigate allies’ survival, locate people, and obtain information about Lu Qian 74 115 322.
- Bone Carving Castle — Worn around his neck; Lu Qian can stay inside and emerge from it 93 219.
- Mercury-bullet handgun — Given to him by Dante before a containment mission 34.
- White Bone Greatsword — Used while disguised as a Minotaur to defeat a Great Demon and fight Ding Dan 645.
- Storage bag — Taken from Amilia and used to hold weapons, authorities, and miscellaneous possessions 613.
- Lightning authority crystal — Crystallized from Zhang Chu after his fall; still unused when the Doctor suggests having it grafted onto Lu Xiao 609.
- First Prototype biomechanical armor — An approximately seventy-meter machine with gravity authority and regenerative properties. Lu Xiao pilots it and discovers its connection to his Consciousness World 793 794 796.
- Tournament biomechanical armor — A later suit equipped with advanced thermal weapons, an elemental Authority Weapon, and mental-power amplification to compensate for his limited killing power 1510.
Relationships
- Lu Qian — Daughter. He raises and fiercely protects her, refusing to sacrifice her to avert C03’s predicted destruction 87 93 162.
- Nico — His other daughter. His attempt at parent–child bonding through movies helps expose the need to approach each daughter differently 896.
- Prison Doctor — Close friend whose medical judgment Lu Xiao earnestly trusts. Lu Xiao promises to study medicine under him once his curse is resolved 33 34.
- The Doctor — C03 researcher and planning partner. Studies his blood, facilitates his missions, and collaborates with him on humanity’s weapons and infrastructure 19 20 490 613.
- Doctor Li — Supervises his training and custom-weapon commission in the dreamscape-linked history. Lu Xiao leaves him an eye while ascending the apotheosis staircase 154 193 243.

- Dart / Chen Jingting — Friend who insists that Lu Xiao eat him before he loses control, hoping to help him become a god. Lu Xiao initially refuses before accepting his request 816.
- Ivan — Friend and alchemist. Repairs Lu Xiao’s Bone Spur and helps develop biomechanical armor 465 466 794.
- Calamity — Deity companion involved in Lu Xiao’s travels, experiments, and dealings in Hell 466 524 732.
- Ruiqi — Succubus representative, worshipper, and increasingly intimate companion. Their relationship develops from pressured bargaining into her expressed trust in his plans 523 539 1573.
