Background / History

Childhood and the Kingswood Brotherhood

Wenda’s father, the Earl of Fawn Hall, visited her frequently before he had a legitimate son. He paid for tutors who taught her civil and military affairs, including the celebrated archer Dick the Fletcher. Her circumstances began to change after the birth of her legitimate half-brother, though the account does not fully explain what followed 23 24.

Wenda put her education to use in the Kingswood Brotherhood. Her swordsmanship and archery helped her become one of its six leaders; she was effectively its second-in-command and at one point rivaled Simon Toyne. Despite her standing, she encountered fear and rejection from fellow leaders who poorly understood her skinchanging 23 24 33.

When the Brotherhood was defeated, Bane “Big Belly” died covering Wenda and Oswin’s escape from encirclement. Wenda subsequently led a small surviving group consisting of Oswin, Andy, Gordon, and Jamie 22 24.

The Starpike Deception

Using the name Alicent, Wenda posed as a merchant’s daughter whose father had been kidnapped. Her accomplices played the supposed bandits and her hired bodyguard, “Bull.” Titus, meanwhile, presented himself as “Ser Don Quixote” and brought them to Starpike 19 20 23.

The group attempted to leave the castle with a chest containing five hundred gold dragons. Their disguise had already been compromised when Gino recognized “Bull” as Oswin, an old shipmate. Titus surrounded them, exposed the invented kidnapping, and identified Wenda as the White Stag 21 22.

Wenda surrendered and offered her group’s service in atonement. During her imprisonment, Titus questioned her about her background and confirmed his suspicion that she was a skinchanger. Although she had volunteered to serve him, he initially doubted her sincerity 22 23.

Service to House Peake

Titus eventually recruited Wenda and her four followers into his guard, appointing her a deputy captain. He had privately considered her as a possible future replacement for Parker as guard captain, but her documented appointment was deputy captain. Alongside Parker and Bowen, she received command of a squad for the journey north 25 28 29.

At Highgarden, Arthur White attempted to take liberties with her and fled when Peake guards surrounded him. Wenda believed she could handle him herself, but Titus postponed retaliation for political reasons. After Arthur threatened to gouge out her remaining eye, Titus promised to kill him; no resolution is shown in these chapters 31 32.

Wenda helped Parker restrain Lorent Caswell’s guards during Titus’s confrontation with the young noble at Bitterbridge. Later, in King’s Landing, she detected men in gold cloaks following their party and warned Titus. She and Bowen accompanied him into an alley, where she killed two of the ten attackers 35 38 39.

At Harrenhal, Wenda prepared Titus’s private quarters and occupied the adjoining maid’s room. Titus also arranged to use her gyrfalcon to relay instructions to Oswin and Davos Seaworth at agreed times and locations 47.

Appearance

  • Hair and complexion: Golden-haired, fair-skinned, and red-lipped 19 21.
  • Eyes: One-eyed, with the left eye described as blind or lost. Her functioning right eye is explicitly blue, although an earlier description gives “Alicent” green eyes 21 23 24 38.
  • Build: Slender but strongly trained; Titus notices her developed abdominal muscles when helping her dismount 20 21.
  • Clothing: Favors white clothing and close-fitting light armor. Her original traveling outfit includes fingerless gloves 19 20 29 36.
  • Mount: Rides an entirely white horse 20.

Personality

Wenda is composed and difficult to intimidate. Her vulnerable “Alicent” persona contrasts sharply with her calm behavior during the attempted escape. In the dungeon, she shows no apparent fear of the torture instruments and often answers unwelcome questions with silence. Questions about her father provoke a much stronger reaction 19 21 23.

She is practical and confident in her ability to defend herself. She dismisses Arthur White as a cowardly wastrel rather than treating him as a serious personal threat, and prefers direct action to verbal confrontations 31 32.

Wenda is also studious and attentive. She appreciates that Titus treats her as a warrior and capable assistant rather than merely as a woman, and that he welcomes the supernatural ability others feared. This acceptance helps her become comfortable in his service 33.

Abilities & Skills

Skinchanging

Wenda can shift her viewpoint to her bonded white gyrfalcon, giving her access to an aerial perspective 21 28.

  • Aerial reconnaissance: Before the Starpike ambush, she prepares to scout from the sky through her “other eye” 21.
  • Surveillance: Titus regards her animal-based observation as a potentially decisive military advantage 22.
  • Communications: Her gyrfalcon is incorporated into plans for delivering instructions to Oswin and Davos 47.
  • Documented scope: The gyrfalcon is her only identified skinchanger companion 28.

Archery

Wenda’s archery is considered even stronger than her swordsmanship. Her father hired Dick the Fletcher specifically to teach her 23.

  • Draws her bow with her right hand 23.
  • Her proficiency with the bow contributed directly to her rise within the Brotherhood 23.

Swordsmanship and Agility

Wenda fights left-handed and favors equipment that preserves her mobility 23 37.

  • Swiftly kills two alley attackers unfamiliar with her left-handed fighting patterns 39.
  • Finishes that fight with her white armor still spotless 39.
  • Moves lightly and quietly during the attempted escape from Starpike 21.
  • Declines heavier armor; Titus considers it an impediment to her agility 37.

Literacy, Leadership, and Organization

Wenda’s education extends beyond combat, making her useful both as an officer and as an attendant 24 25.

  • Can read and write, and carries a small notebook when Titus issues instructions 25 40.
  • Applies her knowledge of civil and military affairs to running the Brotherhood 24.
  • Commands her own squad in the earl’s guard 29.
  • Handles practical arrangements, including baggage at Bitterbridge and Titus’s rooms at Harrenhal 35 47.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sword: Carried in a white scabbard, with a silver crossguard set with a large sapphire 19 36.
  • Longbow and quiver: A white-lacquered longbow worn opposite her sword, with arrows carried on her back 19.
  • Light armor: Uses fitted women’s half-armor with flexible leather armor inset with iron plates rather than a heavier suit 37.
  • Notebook: A small, finely made notebook used while receiving orders 40.
  • White gyrfalcon: Her skinchanger companion, snowy white with scattered markings 28.

Relationships

  • Titus Peake — Captor turned employer. He values her martial ability, literacy, attentiveness, and skinchanging; she values his recognition of her as a capable warrior 22 25 33.
  • Oswin Longneck — Fellow Brotherhood survivor and loyal subordinate. Wenda saved his life twice, and he tells Gino that he will follow her decision about entering Titus’s service 24.
  • Earl of Fawn Hall — Her biological father, rendered as Caron in the chapter summary and Cavron in the detailed passages. He funded her early education, but their relationship changed after he had a legitimate son 23 24.
  • Dick the Fletcher — Her archery teacher, hired at considerable expense by her father 23.
  • Simon Toyne — Fellow Brotherhood leader whom Wenda once rivaled in standing 23.
  • Bane “Big Belly” — Died protecting her and Oswin’s escape during the Brotherhood’s defeat 24.
  • Parker and Bowen — Fellow officers in Titus’s guard. Bowen initially contemplated testing the new female recruit, but abandoned those plans after meeting her 29.
  • Arthur White — Harassed her at Highgarden and later threatened her remaining eye, prompting Titus’s promise of retaliation 31 32.

Trivia

  • Wenda experiences seasickness aboard Davos’s ship, the Black Beth, and retires to the cabin to rest 41.
  • Titus calls her an “Agility Hero” when considering why heavy armor would not suit her fighting style; this is his comparison, not a documented rank or character class 37.
