| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Primal Stone-powered magic | 16 19 | Before creating the Supreme God identity, Gary gains magical channels that let him power White Walker abilities with the Crystal. His control initially limits how much power he can use. |
| Faith-based path to godhood | 70 | The Mother of Dragons explains that more believers will allow Gary to control more of the Primal Stone’s power, eventually enabling the creation of a god’s physical body. |
| First believer and healing miracle | 71 | Gary regenerates Tysha’s missing limbs and organs. She becomes his first believer and gains ice magic; the healing leaves his left hand severely numb. |
| Second Fanatic | 92 | Daenerys’s complete commitment establishes a faith connection. She manifests Valyrian fire magic powered by Gary’s Primal Stone. |
| Resurrection and rejuvenation | 126 | Gary resurrects the beheaded Lajos Furlong and restores Orrick Locke’s youth, winning the northern lords’ worship. |

| Faith gathering on Earth | 374 376 | Gary seeks recognition as God among existing believers, allowing him to absorb their power of faith despite Earth having no gods. |
| Mass godslaying | 380 | Gary deploys Divine Weapons that crush hostile gods’ consciousnesses into pure energy. Their impact also destroys the Arbor. |
Nature and Theology
Invented identity and actual godhood
Gary initially invents the Supreme God while trying to give a dying captive hope. He describes the deity as standing above all other gods, then presents his own healing magic as its answer to prayer 69 71.
His claimed relationship to the deity changes with his audience: he calls himself its messenger, mortal incarnation, high priest, and foremost believer. He explicitly gives Gary as the god’s holy name 71 89 144 212 313.
The distinction between Gary and the deity eventually disappears in practice. After merging with the Primal Stone, he identifies himself as Supreme God Gary; the narrative describes him as the only true god possessing a body, a higher existence than the other gods 355 358 359.
Religious claims
| Teaching or claim | Source and qualification |
|---|---|
| The Supreme God is the one true god. | Gary teaches this from Tysha’s conversion onward and repeats it after attaining godhood 71 358. |
| The Supreme God created the world and all things. | Melisandre teaches this when converting the Queen’s Men. It is a religious claim, not an established account of Gary’s origins 159. |
| The Supreme God predates every other god. | The Kindly Man reports a revelation from the Many-Faced God claiming that the Supreme God vanished before humanity existed. Jaqen later uses this revelation to reassure Melisandre 227 253. |
| Devout believers receive answers and blessings. | Gary repeatedly makes devotion a condition of receiving power; the actual mechanism connects believers to the Primal Stone 71 126 169. |
| The Supreme God will help the living defeat the dead. | This mission forms part of the faith’s preaching as the northern threat approaches 218. |
The faith’s apparent separation between god and messenger causes a crisis for Melisandre. When the Seven tell her that Luke himself is the Supreme God and is using the Primal Stone to become divine, she fears that her beliefs rest on lies 253.
Background and History
Establishment of the faith
Tysha’s restoration provides the faith’s first major miracle and its first devoted follower. Gary orders her to accompany him and spread the Supreme God’s teachings in place of other religions. Her testimony later helps draw Daenerys into the faith 71 81.
Gary initially has no interest in ruling the Seven Kingdoms, but recognizes that royal authority would let him spread the religion rapidly. He consequently makes developing the Supreme God Faith an explicit reason for pursuing the Iron Throne 89.
Expansion and religious conflict
In the North, public healing, resurrection, and rejuvenation undermine the lords’ confidence in their ancestral religion. Their conversion does not immediately transform popular belief: northern subjects continue worshipping the Old Gods secretly, while preaching among Winterfell’s refugees creates a large new body of adherents 123 125 126 223.
The faith also spreads through Melisandre’s conversion of the Queen’s Men and her public displays of magic in the Riverlands. In Pentos, Tysha expels the Lord of Light’s followers, converts a Red God Temple into a church, and erects a statue more than ten meters tall. Magical coercion produces outward conformity, but some residents retain their old faith privately 159 229 314.
The Seven regard Gary’s expansion as a threat to their followers and prepare organized resistance. In King’s Landing, the Father empowers the High Sparrow, while Gary uses public healing to win commoners away from the Sparrows 292 308.
Ascension and its aftermath
Gary’s actual transformation results from Nawija’s consciousness-exchange pact. After acquiring her divine power, he enters the Primal Stone, emerges in a new body, and destroys the Night’s King with a gesture 354 355.
His return confuses those who knew Luke Stark. Margaery, who believed Luke was merely the god’s avatar, initially demands that the Supreme God return her husband. Gary nevertheless retains his personal attachments and his identity as their king 359 362.
During his later return to Earth, Gary gathers faith by having worshippers recognize him as God. Before crossing a spacetime rift again, he stores most of his divine power in church crosses worldwide to reduce losses to spacetime turbulence 369 374 376 377.
Abilities and Skills
Faith Connections and Blessings
Believers form Faith Threads, which Gary can connect to the Primal Stone to supply magical power 169 172.
- Different recipients gain different abilities: Tysha gains ice magic, Daenerys fire magic, Little Deer bodily transformation, and Arya extraordinary strength 71 92 172 219.
- Blessings can be designed: Teresa explains that Gary can assign elemental powers or animal-like abilities instead of leaving believers to discover their gifts unaided 337.
- Devotion is not ordinary compliance: Gary initially detects no faith connection from Daenerys despite her wish to join. Conversely, powerful personal obsessions can become the foundation of fanaticism when attached to the deity 82 126.
- Prayer can reach him remotely: Melisandre’s battlefield appeal sounds to Gary as though she were beside him 236.
Healing, Resurrection, and Rejuvenation
The faith’s most persuasive miracles restore damaged bodies and reverse death or aging 71 126.
- Regenerates Tysha’s severed limbs, missing eye, and nose 71.
- Reattaches Lajos Furlong’s severed head and restores him to life 126.
- Resurrects Ygritte and authorizes one further revival at Castle Black 144.
- Restores youth to Orrick Locke and Barristan Selmy 126 253.
- Early limitation: Gary’s mortal body suffers from channeling the power. Healing Tysha numbs his hand, and he later warns that his body can withstand only one more resurrection 71 144.
Divine Body and Energy Absorption
After ascension, Gary possesses a physical Divine Body rather than merely an energy existence or a borrowed mortal vessel 355 359.
- Absorbs unconscious energy entities continuously to increase his strength 359.
- Absorbs defeated gods directly, as demonstrated against the Father, Mother, and Smith 364.
- Describes his body as immortal, while acknowledging that another god can seal him and that gods have ways to kill one another 374.
- The Divine Body’s capacity to consume divine power makes Gary a potential threat to other gods even without an immediate quarrel 380.
Divine Offices
Gary can distribute divine power and authority by appointing subordinate deities 358 359.
| Recipient | Divine Office | Documented Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Bingling | God of Dragons | Transforms from a magical dragon into a god capable of taking a winged, horned human form 358. |
| Teresa | Sea Goddess | Receives authority over rivers, seas, and their inhabitants; her mortal body becomes powerful enough to rival a divine body 359. |
| Melisandre | Forest God | Receives authority over the life and death of trees, flowers, and grasses 359. |
Divine Combat and Movement
- Large-scale freezing: Immediately after acquiring Nawija’s power, Gary freezes seawater within ten thousand miles 355.
- Teleportation: Instantly moves to Margaery’s side upon discovering her pregnancy 362.
- Suppression of older gods: His Divine Body’s power overwhelms the Father and Mother during their final confrontation 364.
- God-Slaying Weapons: Commands dozens of Divine Weapons capable of destroying gods’ consciousnesses 380.
Worship and Organization
Practices and Expectations
- Exclusive devotion: Gary teaches that the Supreme God must take precedence over family ambitions, love, and hatred, and warns that divided loyalty cannot escape the deity’s notice 82 126.
- Nunhood: Initially requires complete dedication to the Supreme God and a vow never to marry 82.
- Churches and statues: Lords are instructed to construct churches and carve divine statues throughout their fiefs 313.
- Conversion through miracles: Healing and the possibility of resurrection attract followers, although Gary also uses threats and political pressure 126 145 159.
- Pragmatic exceptions: Gary initially permits the Children of the Forest to retain Heart Tree worship while accepting the Supreme God, intending to change their allegiance gradually 172.
Religious and Military Institutions
- Supreme God Faith Church: Intended to replace the Faith of the Seven under Gary’s dynasty 279 313.
- Faith Militant: Jaime is asked to abandon the Seven and lead the faith’s armed organization 279.
- Ice Warrior Corps: Initially consists of twenty selected Fanatics supplied with mana through accepted Faith Threads 126.
- Royal Magic Corps: Planned to recruit people who awaken magical talent through the new order 313.
- Dragonrider Corps: Eligibility is reserved for mages blessed by the Supreme God, without restriction to House Stark 313.
- Holy Fire Tribunal: Receives enhanced bodies and Eagle Eye blessings for its shooters 337.
