Background / History

Bonding with Redd

By the time Redd inspected her Pet Panel, Ehm was already a fully grown, 191-year-old dragon. Her history included a battle with another dragon that had left a massive claw-shaped scar across her belly. Redd earned her recognition by meeting her gaze and established a bond that allowed him to sense her emotions 10 11.

Ehm became Redd’s mount and helped him hunt magical creatures throughout the Valyria Ruins. Her black dragonfire accelerated King Ghidorah’s hatching task to 57%. When Redd considered continuing after dark, she conveyed feelings of danger and death, persuading him to remain at the Dragonpit overnight 10.

Introducing the Old Red Dragon

At first light, Ehm attempted to leave on an errand of her own. After stopping at Redd’s command, she agreed to take him along. They killed an enormous sandworm, raising King Ghidorah’s hatching progress to 77%, and Ehm carried its corpse to a concealed dragon lair 10 11.

The lair housed an old crimson dragon whose body was covered in rotting growths. Ehm called him out with dragonfire and a roar, then shared the sandworm with him after he inspected Redd. This encounter introduced Redd to the dragon later identified as Aegon 11 22.

Ehm continued hunting with Redd, though one sandworm escaped by burrowing beyond the reach of her fire. Other prey brought the hatching task to 93%; magical worms that she flushed from volcanic fissures subsequently raised it to 97% 13 15.

Resentment Curse and Recovery

Ehm’s status was already listed as “Cursed” during Redd’s first inspection. Later, shadowy figures entered her body while she slept, and Redd discovered small fleshy growths on her neck resembling those afflicting the old red dragon 10 14.

After gaining access to more system information, Redd identified the condition as the Resentment Curse: vengeful spirits formed from the sacrificed souls of a deity’s followers. The system stated that divine power or a sufficiently powerful bloodline could remove it 17.

Redd tested his blood by letting it drip onto Ehm’s tongue. Half an hour later, her status changed to “Healthy,” the growths disappeared, and her scales regained their sheen. This success prompted him to attempt the same treatment on Aegon 18 19 21.

Hunting with Aegon

After Aegon accepted Redd as a companion, the two dragons developed coordinated hunting tactics. Ehm drew out sandworms and closed in for attacks while Aegon supplied covering dragonfire. Together, they killed twenty-seven sandworms in one day, earning Redd fifty-four Evolution Points 22 25.

For the next six months, Ehm accompanied Redd and Aegon as they hunted creatures and searched the Valyria Ruins for treasure 25.

Nighttime Battle

Despite both dragons’ warnings, Redd eventually led the group out to hunt at night. When Aegon became cursed and began falling, Ehm caught his tail. She could not sustain his weight, however, and both dragons crashed before reaching Fire Peak 27 28.

Ehm defended the group against beasts transforming into grotesque masses of flesh, but she also became cursed during the fighting. Unable to safely reach her mouth, Redd pried open a scale, cut the flesh beneath it, and pressed his bleeding palm into the wound. Her status initially alternated between “Cursed” and “Weakened,” but her deterioration stopped 28 29 30.

The group fought toward a magma river and followed it to the Broken Volcano. Ehm then carried Redd through a barrage of rocks from emerging sandworms and returned him to the lair. A subsequent inspection showed her as weakened rather than cursed 31 32.

Escape from Valyria

Ehm later helped illuminate Redd’s excavation of a cooled volcanic crater. During the subsequent volcanic crisis, she carried him away from the shaking mountain and narrowly escaped the lava that engulfed their lair 36 38 39.

The eruption battered Ehm and Aegon, tearing their wing membranes. They nevertheless accompanied Redd toward the Smoking Sea, where further eruptions surrounded their flight path 40 41 42.

After the Smoking Sea disaster, Ehm suffered extensive injuries, including dislocated vertebrae, damaged foreleg tendons, and lung burns from inhaled steam. Redd used the system’s medical repair function to heal her at a cost of 1,100 energy points. Her wounds, scales, and wing membranes regenerated within a few breaths 45 46.

Restored to health, Ehm carried Redd away from the Smoking Sea with Aegon and King Ghidorah following. After several days and nights, they sighted Volantis but did not land; Redd intended to seek energy from the wights in Westeros 46.

Appearance

Ehm is an enormous black dragon with a broad back, leathery wings, and prominent bony spines. Her belly bears a large claw-shaped scar attributed to a battle between dragons 10.

• Scales: Hard enough that Redd needed considerable force and leverage to pry one open with a longsword 30.
• Back: Redd grips her scales and bony protrusions while riding; during their early journeys, he has no dragon saddle 10 11.
• Curse symptoms: Small fleshy growths emerge between her scales, while the scales themselves lose their healthy sheen. These changes disappear after treatment 14 18.

Personality

Ehm is steady and relatively docile with Redd, tolerating his habit of sleeping on her back. She frequently expresses affection by nudging or rubbing him with her snout. Redd interprets her comforting gaze as resembling a mother’s concern for a child 11 14 15 24 39.

Her experience makes her cautious about the Valyria Ruins at night. She warns Redd against nocturnal hunting and becomes openly protective when Aegon’s reaction appears threatening, answering his roar with a hostile warning of her own 10 22 27.

Black Dragonfire

Ehm breathes destructive black flames capable of incinerating creatures and burning away the black mist 10 12.

• Burns sandworms’ exposed flesh and can kill them through sustained aerial attacks 11 13.
• Produces enough heat to begin melting soil around a burrow entrance, though deeply buried prey can escape her reach 13.
