Leadership and Organization
The clan is headed by Wei Tianyang, whose personal strength and prestige make his support decisive in succession disputes. Three chief elders nevertheless possess considerable authority and can jointly pressure the leadership 18 21.
- Clan head: Wei Tianyang directs major expeditions, authorizes access to clan resources, and oversees succession 21 23 28.
- Three chief elders: The strongest clan experts after Wei Tianyang. Their sons—Wei Wu, Wei Hong, and Wei Yuan—competed for the young master position 17 24.
- Young master: The position carries exceptional benefits and authority to command clan martial artists in battle. Parentage alone does not guarantee acceptance without sufficient martial strength 17 28 30.
- Senior councils: Dozens of senior members participate in deliberations. The succession dispute is discussed in the Eastern Origin Pavilion, while the Hongshan Ridge expedition is planned in the council hall 21 28.

Military Strength
Hongshan Ridge Expedition
The expedition demonstrates the clan’s available fighting strength, rather than establishing its entire military roster 28 29.
| Cultivation Realm | Deployed Strength | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Martial King | 1 | Wei Tianyang; engages Sun Zhenshan 29 30. |
| Martial Spirit | 3 | The chief elders; intercept the Sun Clan’s three Martial Spirits 29 30. |
| Great Martial Master | 20 | Main combat force supporting the advance toward the abnormal fire 29 30. |
| Martial Master | Over 100 elite fighters | Advance under Wei Yi’s command through the canyon 29 30. |
Guards and Equipment
- Mounted escorts: Dozens of clan-trained riders protect Wei Yi after he acquires the abnormal fire. Each is at least a high-stage Martial Master, with Great Martial Masters also among them 34.
- Military crossbows: The mounted guards carry powerful crossbows, firing volleys before charging and using them again during pursuit 34 35.
- Deterrence: The escort initially keeps would-be flame thieves at a distance. Together with the Zhu Clan guards, it later routs several hundred Blackwater Bandit cavalrymen 34 35.
Cultivation Heritage and Resources
Ancestral Grounds
- Location: Deep beneath the clan’s main residence; the burial place of generations of Wei ancestors 23.
- Cultivation resources: Exceptionally dense Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi and pure soul essence Qi 23.
- Benefits: Supports cultivation and bloodline strengthening. Wei Yi gains cultivation experience from spiritual qi and bloodline experience from soul essence 23 24.
- Access restrictions: Ordinary members generally receive only one opportunity to enter unless they render extraordinary service. Wei Yi’s group consists of twenty-one young disciples admitted for three days 23 24.
- Variable results: Entry does not guarantee improvement; some visitors gain nothing 23.
Bloodline Heritage
Gold-bloodline experts appeared among the clan’s ancestors during its greatest heyday. In the present generation, even bronze awakenings have become uncommon 24.
- Wei Tianyang’s bronze bloodline: His cultivation initially allows him to suppress Wei Yi’s bloodline power 24.
- Wei Yi’s silver bloodline: Evolves within the ancestral grounds, producing a heavenly phenomenon that breaches their restrictions 24.
- Bloodline hierarchy: Silver bloodlines can innately suppress bronze bloodlines, making Wei Tianyang’s former advantage over his son less straightforward 24.
- Martial soul potential: Wei Tianyang explains that bloodline power can assist in awakening a special martial soul 23.
Techniques and Pill Refining
- Clan-guarding cultivation art: A profound-tier art available to relatively few members. Its name is not given 13.
- Seven Kills Fist: A low-grade profound-tier martial technique learned by Wei Yi through his access as young master 38.
- Pill-refining support: Shen Qiulan supplies high-grade pills to senior members and teaches Wei Yi pill refining. He observes refiners in the Medicinal Fragrance Courtyard during his training 26.
- Crimson Crystal True Flame: Obtained personally by Wei Yi during the clan expedition; he subsequently uses it to refine sixteen Origin-Breaking Pills 32 33.
History
Young Master Succession Crisis
Wei Yi originally held the young master position as Wei Tianyang’s only son. His diagnosis of severed meridians made him unable to cultivate and gave rival factions grounds to challenge his suitability. Competition among the three chief elders’ sons delayed the appointment of a replacement 1 17.
When reports spread that Wei Yi could cultivate again, the elders accelerated the selection process. Wei Tianyang sent Uncle Wu to verify the news, leaving Wei Yi free to return and defend his position or remain safely at the academy if the reports were false 17.
Wei Yi returned and proposed settling the dispute through combat. At the clan training grounds, he defeated Wei Yuan, Wei Hong, and Wei Wu in a three-against-one contest. The elders then accepted him as young master without objection 21 22.
Silver Bloodline Awakening
After the contest, Wei Tianyang restored Wei Yi’s benefits and arranged his entry into the ancestral grounds. There, Wei Yi’s bronze bloodline evolved into silver 23 24.
The resulting phenomenon made secrecy impractical, so Wei Tianyang announced the awakening openly. Opposition to Wei Yi’s suitability fell silent; Wei Wu and Wei Hong publicly abandoned their ambitions, while Wei Yuan continued seeking a future rematch. Despite securing the position, Wei Yi privately had no intention of succeeding his father as clan head 25.
Hongshan Ridge Expedition
The clan mobilized after learning that abnormal fire had appeared between Jinling and Zhongshan. Wei Tianyang and the three elders personally led the expedition, refusing to leave the prize to the rival Sun Clan 28 29.
During the battle, Wei Tianyang held off Sun Zhenshan while the elders engaged the opposing Martial Spirits. Wei Yi commanded the remaining force toward the flame. His former succession rivals joined him against an interfering attacker, then guarded him while he absorbed the Crimson Crystal True Flame 30 31 32.
Wei Tianyang reunited with the successful party and led the clan out of the gorge. Afterward, Wei Yi rewarded the cousins who had protected him with Origin-Breaking Pills 32 33.
Escort to True Martial Academy
With outsiders still seeking the flame, the clan assigned Lu Hu and dozens of elite riders to escort Wei Yi. They joined Zhu Ling’er’s party and defeated a Blackwater Bandit cavalry ambush financed by Yuwen Bei. During the pursuit, Lu Hu wounded Yuwen Bei with a crossbow bolt before Wei Yi called off the chase 34 35.
External Relationships
- Zhongshan Sun Clan — Long-standing enemy. Business disputes have produced repeated clashes, deaths, and injuries; the rivalry escalates into open combat over the abnormal fire 29 30.
- Zhu Clan — Cooperates with the Wei escort against the Blackwater Bandits. A Zhu retainer considers proposing a marriage alliance, but no agreement is established 34 35.
- Blackwater Bandits — Repeatedly attack Wei Yi. Wei Tianyang orders an investigation after the first homeward ambush, but their hidden whereabouts frustrate the search 18 29.
- Yuwen Bei — Seeks the abnormal fire and later finances the cavalry ambush. His connection to Overlord Sect elder Yuwen Hui becomes a concern when Wei Yi plans to join the sect 33 35.
