Background / History
Voraksa existed before the Age of Gods and became one of the dragons’ greatest fighting forces. He rose to leadership among his kind and eventually led them into war against the gods 36 119.
According to Voraksa, dozens of gods fought him in successive engagements for decades before finally wearing him down. The God King pronounced judgment on him, and chains extending from the void dragged him underground. Despite his fearsome reputation, he was defeated within the opening decades of the thousand-year War of the Gods, before Apekus appeared; consequently, he knew little about the war’s later stages 36 39.
Voraksa remained sealed for tens of thousands of years, sleeping through several eras. His name survived in ancient lore, and even Valeria’s fragmentary inherited information identified him as an opponent of the God King who had been sealed during the war 34 55.
Appearance
- Size: Over one hundred meters from snout to tail, with shoulders dozens of meters high when standing on all fours and a wingspan exceeding one hundred meters 35.
- Scales: Thick black armor with dark-red, magma-like patterns flowing between the scales 35.
- Eyes: Four dark-red eyes, with a larger front pair and smaller rear pair 35.
- Horns: Thick, twisted, bull-like horns jutting in multiple directions. Their dark-red surfaces are cracked with glowing, magma-like light 35.
- Wings: Broad wings with dark-red membranes resembling blood-soaked canvas 35.
- Tail: Long and powerful, ending in sharp bony spikes 35 36.
- Lasting injury and recovery: King Ghidorah erased his left wing with golden lightning. It gradually regrew, with its membrane fully restored by the time Voraksa departed to search for Valeria; the new tissue was paler than its surroundings 36 58 69.
Personality
Voraksa is arrogant, destructive, and openly contemptuous of weaker creatures. On awakening, he dismisses humans as insignificant and plans to announce his return by destroying a city. He also judges modern dragons by ancient bloodline standards, regarding Valerirus as little more than a diluted “dragon beast” 35 36 59.
His behavior changes sharply around King Ghidorah. After being defeated, he becomes anxious, deferential, and preoccupied with avoiding further punishment. He tries to flatter Ghidorah using the elaborate etiquette of the Age of Gods, but his flowery praise often irritates his new master instead 38 39 59.
Despite his pride, Voraksa values survival over futile resistance. He regards fleeing a vastly stronger opponent as wisdom rather than cowardice. That caution can also undermine his work: he spends days searching for Valeria without knowing what Valeria looks like because he is too afraid to return and ask 80 114.
His defense of humanity does not establish a change of heart. While refugees cheer for him during the battle against the Evil God’s creations, he privately thinks about blowing them up after dealing with the swarm 110.
Abilities & Skills
Eleventh-Tier Power
- Voraksa estimates himself at roughly the eleventh tier under the human magic system; King Ghidorah later uses the same estimate when comparing another opponent’s strength 39 157.
- He can crush an ordinary tenth-tier, god-level creation in one claw, treating it as an insignificant opponent 109.
- The Dragon Ancestor recognizes him as one of the dragons’ foremost ancient fighters. Nevertheless, Voraksa remains vastly inferior to King Ghidorah and instinctively judges Rodan to be much stronger than himself 36 114 119.
Physical Strength and Durability
- Grievously injures Valerirus with a single full-strength claw strike, despite intending only to knock him unconscious 59.
- Crushes the skull of Wolunxius, the Demon God of Shattered Remolding, with one claw 80.
- Smashes the Evil God’s god-level shadows apart individually. A black-light attack knocks him out of the air but leaves only a superficial scorched mark 109.
- His wing membranes are described as tough enough that the gods’ holy swords would leave only shallow marks. Ghidorah’s golden lightning nevertheless erases his entire left wing after merely grazing it 36.
Breath Attack
- Channels dark-red energy through his throat and releases it as a destructive breath attack 35 36 110.
- Can charge a powerful crimson pillar intended to sweep through the Evil God’s airborne swarm 110.
- Requires time to prepare that large-scale attack, prompting him to ask the other dragons to hold off the enemy 110.
Flight and Magical Levitation
- Flies using his enormous wings, whose beats generate powerful winds 36 69.
- Can remain airborne without functional wings by forming an invisible magical lifting field around his body 38 39.
- Severe distraction can disrupt the magic sustaining his flight; his anxiety around Ghidorah causes his aerial balance to falter 38 39.
Regeneration and Healing
- Regrows his destroyed left wing over time, progressing from a small bud to a restored membrane 39 58 69.
- Possesses limited healing skills and uses them to keep Valerirus alive and assist his recovery on Ghidorah’s orders. Healing is explicitly not his specialty 59 64 65.
Ancient Knowledge and Perception
- Retains knowledge of ancient palaces, divine residences, dwarven fortresses, and elven tree cities, although geographical changes make some of that knowledge unreliable 36 38.
- Distinguishes dragon bloodline purity through features such as scales, horns, and pupils 59.
- Recognizes the Dragon Ancestor through inherited draconic memories received at birth 119.
- Senses powerful beings and unusual energy signatures, including Ghidorah’s unfamiliar otherworldly energy and a giant beast emerging from a mountain 36 150.
Relationships
- King Ghidorah — Master and sovereign. Ghidorah spares Voraksa because he considers him useful, employs him for searches and investigations, and appoints him captain of the guard. Voraksa obeys with pronounced fear of punishment 36 39 52 65.
- Valeria — Fellow subordinate. Voraksa initially searches for Valeria without knowing his appearance and later accidentally strikes him during battle. They subsequently travel and undertake assignments together 69 80 110 150 151.
- Valerirus — Initially a victim of Voraksa’s overwhelming strength, then a fellow servant of Ghidorah. Voraksa is ordered to heal him after nearly killing him and later fights alongside him against the black shadows 59 64 65 110.
- Dragon Ancestor — Progenitor of the dragons and an object of Voraksa’s reverence. Seeing him defeated by Ghidorah leaves Voraksa shocked and distressed; the ancestor, in turn, recognizes Voraksa’s ancient military standing 119.
- Nuoyaji — Remembers Voraksa as a destroyer of nations in his previous life. After the battle against the Evil God’s creations, Nuoyaji credits him with preventing the defenders’ deaths 110 119.
- Wolunxius — Demon god killed during Voraksa’s unsuccessful search for Valeria 80.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Awakening and Defeat
A black-robed leader’s ritual awakens Voraksa beneath an abandoned mine. His emergence unleashes a dark-red pillar that destroys the ruins above. Finding no trace of the gods, he declares himself the victor over his ancient enemies and prepares to dominate the human age 34 35.
Before he can destroy a city, Voraksa senses King Ghidorah and chooses him as his first opponent. Ghidorah’s golden lightning erases his left wing, and the enormous monster pins him beneath one foot. Voraksa survives by offering to locate a castle 36.
His first attempt fails because a remembered plain and palace site have become a vast lake. After questioning him about the War of the Gods, Ghidorah orders him to find a palace or die 38 39.
Service in Vagrian
Voraksa eventually presents Valerirus’s palace to Ghidorah, having badly beaten its owner. He carries the injured emperor through the palace, uses his head to force open the entrance doors, and is then ordered to heal him for questioning 58 59.
During Ghidorah’s rule, Voraksa is assigned to investigate the Forbidden Land and formally appointed captain of the guard. The position covers the emperor’s protection, palace security, and daily affairs, although Voraksa accepts it without understanding its duties 64 65.
Ghidorah next sends him to retrieve Valeria. Unable to identify his target and unwilling to ask for clarification, Voraksa searches by seizing creatures and questioning them. Wolunxius dies during this search; Voraksa later admits that he has still not found his colleague 69 80 104.
Battle Against the Evil God’s Creations
After the Old World collapses, Voraksa emerges amid rubble and asks after Ghidorah’s whereabouts. He then confronts the descending black creations of the Evil God Weiergalun, easily destroying individual enemies but becoming increasingly irritated by their numbers 108 109 110.
Voraksa accidentally strikes the falling Valeria before learning that he is his missing colleague. He subsequently asks the dragons to buy time for a charged breath attack. Their defense and the refugees’ cheers place the legendary destroyer in the unexpected role of humanity’s protector—an outcome that astonishes Nuoyaji 110.
As Voraksa fires, Ghidorah emerges from a rift directly into the crimson beam. Ghidorah survives, while Voraksa is left horrified by his own bad luck. Nuoyaji later concludes that Voraksa’s destruction of the god-level swarm had been essential to everyone’s survival 110 111 119.
Later Assignments
- Leaves Vagrian with Ghidorah and Valeria, follows them west to Rodan’s emergence, and later recognizes the defeated Dragon Ancestor 112 114 119.
- Serves as a city gate guard alongside Valeria, finding some consolation in the fact that even the Dragon Ancestor is stationed nearby 129.
- Accompanies Valeria to a palace, kills and eats a powerful mountain-emerging beast, and hears intelligence from Silence Organization members about a plan to create a “new god” 150 151.
- Arrives in Gerlen City with Valeria after the devastation caused by the black spirals, while Ghidorah is away 194.
