Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Academy novice 134 Initially could not cast even basic spells. Studied alongside Na’er at the Imperial Magic Academy.
Sixth Tier 68 145 At twenty, created an independent spell. While still a young student, defeated Bolundeng’s strongest spellcaster—a peak Sixth Tier mage—with a single, previously unrecorded multi-element spell.
Peak Sixth Tier 91 Explicitly identified at this level while surveying Vagrian’s palace. Its guards, sentries, and mana-detection arrays were considered insufficient to prevent his infiltration.
Legendary realm 122 134 Confirmed as a genuine legendary powerhouse; Na’er later recognizes his achievement during their reunion. The breakthrough itself is not described.

Background / History

Chaluoke studied at the Imperial Magic Academy with Na’er and other friends, including Feixiu, John, and Nade. Their teacher was a senior professor with extensive knowledge of magical theory but less reliable practical results. Chaluoke’s talent earned praise from the Venerable of Ten Thousand Spells, and his victory over the Southern Continent’s strongest spellcaster made his name known across the continent 68 134 145.

His reputation attracted both recruitment offers and suspicion. Nobles, factions, and an emperor sought his allegiance, while Vagrian’s Lord Protector summoned him to warn him against causing trouble. Chaluoke ultimately declined challengers, the Tower Mage Corps, and national recruitment offers; he founded no organization and withdrew from public attention 84 128 145.

About ten years before the Salvation Society investigation, Chaluoke visited a coastal city with his teacher and friends. A tremendous impact struck nearby, and the city disappeared that night. Nuoyaji later identified the disaster as an act of the Salvation Society. According to Nuoyaji, Chaluoke lost his closest friend, teacher, and lover, survived, and abandoned his ambitions to work as a miner while numbing himself with alcohol. His later reunion with Na’er revealed that some academy friends were still alive and did not blame him for what happened 68 134 145.

Appearance

  • Build: Tall and broad-shouldered, with a sturdy frame and rough, callused hands 53.
  • Face: Small, very dark brown eyes; a sharply defined, angular jaw when clean-shaven 53 84.
  • Initial condition: Tangled, unwashed hair, dark circles, bloodshot eyelids, untidy stubble, and a dusty, wrinkled old coat 53.
  • Later appearance: After joining Nuoyaji, shaves, combs his hair, and borrows a well-tailored dark gray knight’s everyday uniform from the delegation’s luggage 84.
  • Voice: Low, hoarse, and rasping, repeatedly associated with years of drinking 53 68.

Personality

Chaluoke’s withdrawal is rooted in grief and self-blame rather than a lack of ability. He neglects himself, drinks heavily, and tries to live unnoticed, although his pride in his talent remains. Nuoyaji’s confrontation exposes how strongly he still reacts to his former reputation and losses 53 68.

Despite his bitterness, he repeatedly helps vulnerable people. In flooded Weierna, he shares bread with a child and considers how to evacuate him. During the colosseum crisis, he prioritizes surviving and getting others out rather than relying on the gods to intervene. He later carries the sleeping young girl accompanying Nuoyaji and checks her breathing after the fighting 53 54 135 175.

He is usually calm in danger and retains a dry, self-mocking sense of humor. His confidence occasionally resurfaces as open boasting, but he also recognizes his limitations: confronting the Dragon-Erosion Demon God convinces him that fighting such a being directly is effectively suicidal 108 133 137.

Abilities & Skills

Multi-Element Spellcraft

Chaluoke can combine normally conflicting elements into a stable spell through precise compression and control 108.

  • Created an original multi-element spell that broke a peak Sixth Tier opponent’s strongest defense in one strike 145.
  • Combines flame, frost, lightning, and wind into an orb, suppressing their mutual repulsion before releasing it 108.
  • Casts this attack without chanting, a staff, or supporting tools, clearing the crawlers from an entire open area 108.

Defensive and Dispelling Magic

He uses rapidly formed shields, broad barriers, and dispelling spells 133 137.

  • Dispels a huge blue spell during the Continent’s Strongest Competition 133.
  • Raises a handheld pale-blue shield against Kamiizumi Nobutsuna’s blade strike and blocks Na’er’s crimson attack with one hand 133.
  • Expands a barrier across several hundred meters to protect others from the Dragon-Erosion Demon God 137.
  • Limit: The Demon God shatters the large barrier. The interrupted, high-consumption spell badly injures Chaluoke, requiring Na’er’s healing 137.

Offensive Magic

His attacks include concentrated beams, flame constructs, and a personally developed trump-card spell 133 135 137.

  • Uses a crimson flame whip while retreating from Kamiizumi Nobutsuna 133.
  • Pierces an enormous black monster’s chest with a crimson beam 135.
  • Kills a chimera before it can struggle and severs five opponents’ hands from a distance 149.
  • Releases a spell developed over many years, expending all his remaining mana; it travels too quickly for observers to distinguish its color 137.
  • Limit: That trump card leaves only a tiny white mark on the Dragon-Erosion Demon God’s scales and leaves Chaluoke exhausted 137.

Stealth, Mobility, and Intelligence Gathering

Chaluoke combines magical concealment with practical reconnaissance and infiltration skills 88 91 154.

  • Gathers detailed information on Caesar’s accession, court administration, and factions seeking Valerirus’s restoration 88.
  • Enters Nuoyaji’s room through a window almost silently, describing it as a habit from his youth 88.
  • Possesses stealth spells used to infiltrate G Trading Company 154.
  • Casts a speed-enhancement spell and destroys floors to maneuver during his battle with Venerable An 155.
  • Limit: Tyrfing absorbs energy from his spells, making Venerable An a particularly unfavorable opponent for a mage 155.

Mana Control and Perception

Chaluoke keeps his power tightly contained rather than constantly radiating pressure 53 108.

  • Even a slight leakage of mana convinces the Silence Society that he is dangerous 53.
  • Crawlers instinctively avoid him despite his lack of visible casting or drawn weapons 108.
  • Detects concealed observers and recognizes a powerful concealment spell associated with a vampire 84 91.
  • Senses the major surge of mana rising from beneath Luenxi’s ruins 165.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Short axe: Worn at his waist; he reaches for it when alerted to danger 84 98.
  • Smoking pipe: Uses it while recounting the storm and the golden three-headed dragon to Nuoyaji 68.
  • Borrowed dark gray uniform: A knight’s everyday outfit supplied from the delegation’s spare clothing 84.

Relationships

  • Nuoyaji — Companion and organizer of their effort to prevent disasters. In his previous life, Nuoyaji learned Chaluoke’s history through drunken conversations; in the current life, he uses that knowledge to recruit him. Chaluoke increasingly questions how Nuoyaji knows so much 68 88 141.
  • Na’er — Longtime academy friend. Their reunion reveals that she survived and that their friends want to apologize for words spoken in anger. She offers to help clear his arrest warrant, heals him during the Demon God battle, and joins the subsequent investigation 134 137 151.
  • Feixiu — Academy friend who worried that Chaluoke had killed himself or become a helpless drunk. Na’er reports that Feixiu and the others are well 134.
  • His teacher — An unnamed Imperial Magic Academy professor whom Chaluoke deeply respected despite their irreverent exchanges. His death is one of Chaluoke’s defining losses 68 134 145.
  • King Ghidorah / Caesar — First witnessed as a golden three-headed dragon after a storm. Later places Chaluoke and his companions under his direction and participates through an avatar in their Salvation Society operation 54 68 128 149.
  • Kamiizumi Nobutsuna — Tournament opponent whose swordsmanship forces Chaluoke into a close battle. Later helps defend Luenxi against invading monsters 133 161.
  • A Qiu — A young contestant whom Chaluoke carries into the stands during the colosseum emergency 135.
  • Sangis — Cooperates with him during the palace disaster, takes him and Nuoyaji away in her carriage, and later requests his help against the crawlers 98 108.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Flooded Weierna and Recruitment

  • Shelters in a half-submerged building with a child. His strength alarms passing Silence Society members, who mistake his request for money, transport, bread, and alcohol for a possible coded demand 53.
  • Accepts money and food, thanks the group, and calls them “good people” while sharing the bread with the child 54.
  • Arrives at Nuoyaji’s caravan through arrangements made by Lady Meweiro. After being confronted about his self-destructive withdrawal, agrees to help Nuoyaji build a safer world 68.

Vagrian’s Succession and the Evil God Crisis

  • Reconnoiters the capital and gathers intelligence on Caesar’s new government and its political opponents 84 88 91.
  • Helps Nuoyaji contact Sangis after black flames signal an approaching disaster; escapes with them as tentacles engulf the palace 98.
  • Assists Sangis by clearing the crawlers with a combined elemental spell 108.

Continent’s Strongest Competition

  • Signs up for the competition in restored Valerilus City despite normally avoiding public attention 128.
  • Fights Kamiizumi Nobutsuna and reunites with Na’er. Although she invites him back, he says he must first finish an important task 133 134.
  • Protects others when monsters interrupt the tournament, then confronts the Dragon-Erosion Demon God alongside the other legendary fighters 135 137.
  • Survives severe injury and magical exhaustion; afterward, Nuoyaji approaches him and Na’er with information about the city destroyed years earlier 137 141.

Salvation Society and G Trading Company

  • Investigates the Salvation Society with Nuoyaji and Na’er. At Dongping Village, kills the chimera and helps capture the leader whose information connects the project to Doctor Cohen and G Squad 149 151.
  • Infiltrates G Trading Company with Nuoyaji, leaving Na’er outside to watch Yifula, and battles the Tyrfing-wielding Venerable An inside 154 155.
  • Defends Luenxi from flying monsters and continues clearing creatures from the ruins as the underground mana surge intensifies 161 165.
  • Is evacuated by the Light God before the ground collapses and Fat Godzilla emerges. Later remains beside Nuoyaji, holding their sleeping young companion as the aftermath unfolds 166 175 177.
