Ch. 1Set a small goal: catch up to a Super Saiyan!

After merging with Shi Chen’s memories, Tien Shinhan vowed to avoid his future decline and set a goal of reaching Super Saiyan strength. Knowing Tambourine would soon attack, he brought the others to eat and stopped Krillin from going back to the tournament lounge alone.

  • Tien Shinhan woke after winning the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament and realized Shi Chen’s memories had merged with his own.
  • Tien Shinhan resolved to change his future, pursue martial arts relentlessly, and first catch up to a Super Saiyan’s battle power.
  • Tien Shinhan collected the tournament prize money and invited Goku, Krillin, and the others to dinner, knowing they needed to replenish their strength before Tambourine arrived.
  • Tien Shinhan ordered a huge, meat-heavy meal, while Bulma asked for vegetables and Launch gazed at him lovestruck.
  • Goku remembered he had left his Dragon Ball and Power Pole in the tournament lounge, and Krillin offered to retrieve them.
  • Tien Shinhan stopped Krillin from leaving and urged everyone to eat first, determined not to let him become a sacrifice for someone else’s power-up.

Ch. 2Tearing off arms and legs? My specialty!

Tien Shinhan persuaded Krillin to stay and eat with everyone, allowing the group to restore their strength before returning to the World Martial Arts Tournament grounds. They found Tambourine slaughtering martial artists, and while Goku broke one of his arms, Tien Shinhan tore off his wings; Bulma steadied Yamcha and joked about getting him a wheelchair.

  • Tien Shinhan convinced Krillin to stay for the meal instead of going alone to retrieve the Dragon Ball.
  • Tien Shinhan, Goku, and the others ate at the restaurant, and Tien Shinhan regained most of his stamina.
  • The group returned to the tournament grounds and found Tambourine attacking the martial artists while carrying Goku’s forgotten bundle.
  • Goku leaped at Tambourine and broke his arm, but Tambourine prepared to counterattack as Goku fell.
  • Tien Shinhan flew behind Tambourine and ripped off his wings, while Bulma steadied Yamcha and asked whether he wanted a wheelchair instead of crutches.

Ch. 3Tien Shinhan raced against time!

Tien Shinhan killed Tambourine, then learned King Piccolo was seeking the Dragon Balls and hurried to prepare for a confrontation. He left with Goku and Chiaotzu to defeat King Piccolo before the demon king regained his youth, while Master Roshi tried to warn them too late.

  • Tien Shinhan killed Tambourine with a Dodon Ray, and Krillin recovered Goku's Dragon Ball and Power Pole from the monster's bundle.
  • Tien Shinhan identified Tambourine as one of King Piccolo's men and borrowed Bulma's Dragon Radar before flying off to retrieve a rice cooker and a slip of paper from the restaurant.
  • Master Roshi told Goku, Krillin, and the others about King Piccolo's history as Tien Shinhan returned with the rice cooker stored in a Hoi-Poi Capsule.
  • Tien Shinhan urged Goku and Chiaotzu to set off with him to defeat King Piccolo, and Goku agreed to travel on Flying Nimbus.
  • Master Roshi tried to warn them against confronting King Piccolo, but Tien Shinhan, Goku, and Chiaotzu had already flown away.

Ch. 4The fight for the Dragon Balls!

Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu, and Goku set out to prepare for their fight against King Piccolo and took the One-Star Dragon Ball from Yajirobe. The group headed for Korin Tower, while Cymbal arrived too late and began searching for them.

  • Tien Shinhan explained King Piccolo’s plan to collect the Dragon Balls, and used the Dragon Radar to lead Goku and Chiaotzu to Yajirobe.
  • Goku asked Yajirobe for the Dragon Ball around his neck, but Yajirobe refused to give it up.
  • Tien Shinhan warned Yajirobe about King Piccolo, while Chiaotzu restrained him with his psychic powers and Tien Shinhan took the One-Star Dragon Ball.
  • Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu, and Goku flew toward Korin Tower, and Tien Shinhan warned Yajirobe to leave before King Piccolo’s underlings arrived.
  • Cymbal reached the spot where Yajirobe had been, found the Dragon Ball gone, and detected ki in two directions as he decided which group to pursue.

Ch. 5Master Korin's Mind Reading and Senzu Beans!

Tien Shinhan, Goku, and Chiaotzu reached Korin Tower to prepare for their fight against King Piccolo, and Tien Shinhan secured Senzu Beans from Master Korin. Master Korin also warned them about the deadly Ultra Divine Water, just as Cymbal caught up and demanded the Dragon Ball.

  • Cymbal chose to pursue Tien Shinhan, Goku, and Chiaotzu, but struggled to keep up as they flew toward Korin Tower.
  • Tien Shinhan led the group straight up Korin Tower, determined to get Senzu Beans so they could exploit King Piccolo's weakness in stamina.
  • Master Korin read their memories, learned that King Piccolo had returned, and found parts of Tien Shinhan's memories blurred.
  • Tien Shinhan asked for Senzu Beans, and Master Korin gave him a jar holding over a hundred beans.
  • Master Korin told Tien Shinhan and Goku about the potentially strength-enhancing but poisonous Ultra Divine Water.
  • Cymbal arrived at Korin Tower and demanded that they hand over the Dragon Ball.

Ch. 6King Piccolo attacks!

King Piccolo learned that Cymbal had been killed and flew to Korin Tower to confront Tien Shinhan and Goku. Tien Shinhan began a plan to wear King Piccolo down, but the chapter ended as he and Goku launched another attack.

  • King Piccolo learned Cymbal's ki had disappeared, used Pilaf's Dragon Radar to locate the last two Dragon Balls, and flew toward them.
  • Bulma, Master Roshi, and Krillin searched for Tien Shinhan and Goku while Yajirobe ran toward Korin Tower; their groups converged near the tower.
  • King Piccolo found Tien Shinhan and Goku, and Tien Shinhan taunted him to provoke him into wasting stamina.
  • King Piccolo raised his power level to 230, overwhelming the nearby warriors with his pressure.
  • Tien Shinhan used the Multi-Form Technique, and King Piccolo knocked back his original body and three duplicates without noticing one had hidden in a bush.
  • Tien Shinhan attacked again, and Goku overcame his fear and joined the assault.

Ch. 7King Piccolo, look at this!

Tien Shinhan and Goku coordinated their attacks against King Piccolo, injuring him before he regenerated his arm. Tien then used a clone, a rice cooker, and a sealing talisman to make King Piccolo believe the Evil Containment Wave was about to be used again.

  • Goku attacked King Piccolo with the Power Pole, but King Piccolo caught it and swung Goku around until he let go.
  • Tien Shinhan and Goku worked together to pressure King Piccolo, briefly forcing him to retreat before he adapted and stretched his limbs to attack them.
  • King Piccolo entangled Goku, but Tien Shinhan pierced his arm with a Dodon Ray, and Goku bit through part of it to escape.
  • Yajirobe tried to cut King Piccolo's arm, missed, and fled after King Piccolo threatened him and fired a Death Beam toward the bushes.
  • King Piccolo regenerated his severed arm, while Tien Shinhan noticed his exhaustion and shouted to distract him.
  • Tien Shinhan's clone emerged from the bushes beside a rice cooker marked with a sealing talisman, frightening King Piccolo with the apparent threat of the Evil Containment Wave.

Ch. 8A bag of Senzu Beans and a pack of smokes, and Demon King Piccolo would be calling him daddy!

Tien Shinhan tricked King Piccolo with a fake Evil Containment Wave, then repeatedly struck him with Tri-Beams replenished by Senzu Beans. King Piccolo was left near defeat, raging that Tien had beaten him through deception.

  • King Piccolo panicked when Tien Shinhan appeared to prepare the Evil Containment Wave, while Master Roshi recognized the rice cooker’s sealing strip was fake.
  • Tien Shinhan used the distraction to charge a Tri-Beam, and King Piccolo realized the trap too late to dodge.
  • Tien Shinhan swallowed a Senzu Bean and fired a second Tri-Beam after the first left King Piccolo badly injured.
  • Tien Shinhan prepared another attack as King Piccolo’s regeneration failed, leaving only half his body intact.
  • King Piccolo roared that he could not accept defeat by Tien Shinhan and blamed the ambush for his loss.

Ch. 9The Dragon Balls gathered! Tien Shinhan's wish!

Tien Shinhan defeated King Piccolo, secured the Dragon Balls, and prepared to summon Shenron to make a wish. The chapter left off as he called forth the dragon with all seven Dragon Balls gathered.

  • King Piccolo spat out a small egg before dying, and Tien Shinhan destroyed his remaining body with a Tri-Beam.
  • Master Roshi praised Tien Shinhan and Goku, invited them and Krillin to train, and accepted Tien Shinhan and Goku's choice to stay at Korin Tower.
  • Tien Shinhan spotted the Pilaf Gang's airship on the Dragon Radar and took the five Dragon Balls they carried, sending the gang members away by parachute.
  • Tien Shinhan gathered all seven Dragon Balls with Goku's Four-Star Dragon Ball and called for Shenron.

Ch. 10Breaking the human limiter, a modest goal no longer out of reach

Tien Shinhan summoned Shenron and wished to break his human limiter, paying half his lifespan and his hair in exchange. With his power now slowly increasing, he planned to train at Korin Tower and believed catching up to a Super Saiyan was within reach.

  • Tien Shinhan summoned Shenron and wished to break his human limiter rather than become invincible or change his body into that of a Saiyan.
  • Shenron granted the wish, breaking Tien Shinhan’s limiter at the cost of half his lifespan and all his hair, though Tien Shinhan was already bald.
  • Tien Shinhan sensed his power increasing slowly on its own and resolved to train, setting his first goal as catching up to a Super Saiyan.
  • Tien Shinhan caught the stone Four-Star Dragon Ball and returned it to Kid Goku, who thanked him for lending it.
  • Chiaotzu congratulated Tien Shinhan but questioned the cost, saying he could not bear to lose his single strand of hair.

Ch. 11Tower-climbing race! A hundredfold boost to power gains!

Tien Shinhan and Goku raced up Korin Tower while Chiaotzu trained alongside them. By the end of the climb, Tien Shinhan had confirmed that breaking his limiter greatly amplified his training gains, and his power level had risen to 230.

  • Tien Shinhan invited Chiaotzu to make the same wish to break his limiter, but Chiaotzu worried about losing his hair.
  • Master Roshi left with Bulma and Krillin, while Krillin vowed to catch up with Tien Shinhan and Goku.
  • Tien Shinhan challenged Goku to race up Korin Tower, and Chiaotzu joined them with Tien Shinhan's encouragement.
  • Tien Shinhan used the Four Witches Technique to climb faster, caught up with Goku, and the two pushed each other through a heated race.
  • After half a day of climbing, Tien Shinhan's power level had risen from 180 to 230, confirming that training magnified his limiter-breaking trait's effect to roughly a hundred times its original strength.

Ch. 12Making the most of the Ultra Divine Water opportunity!

Tien Shinhan and Son Goku reached Korin Tower in half a day and discussed whether to risk drinking the lethal Ultra Divine Water. Tien Shinhan chose to meet Kami first and strengthen his life force before returning to try it.

  • Tien Shinhan reached the top of Korin Tower ahead of Son Goku, and Goku praised his strength before promising to catch up.
  • Master Korin congratulated them on their climb and told them Kami at Kami's Lookout wanted to meet them, then reminded them of the Ultra Divine Water's deadly risk.
  • Tien Shinhan recalled how the Ultra Divine Water may have helped Goku and Yajirobe grow stronger, and decided he would eventually drink it.
  • Tien Shinhan suggested that he and Goku visit Kami's Lookout before trying the Ultra Divine Water.
  • Master Korin agreed that Kami's guidance could help them build more potential before they drank the water.

Ch. 13Was a power level of thirty million still far away?

Tien Shinhan and Son Goku trained by trying to snatch the Ultra Divine Water from Master Korin, and Tien Shinhan’s power level rose to 300. After Chiaotzu and Yajirobe reached Korin Tower, Tien Shinhan asked Master Korin for most of his Senzu Beans.

  • Tien Shinhan asked Master Korin to teach him agility and coordination while he waited for Chiaotzu to climb Korin Tower.
  • Son Goku joined Tien Shinhan in trying to snatch the Ultra Divine Water from Master Korin.
  • After half a day of training, Tien Shinhan and Son Goku secured the jug, and Master Korin collapsed from exhaustion.
  • Tien Shinhan estimated that his power level had reached 300, far ahead of where he had been at this point in the original story.
  • Chiaotzu and Yajirobe arrived at Korin Tower, and Tien Shinhan asked Master Korin for most of his Senzu Beans.

Ch. 14Yajirobe! Behaving himself now!

Tien Shinhan secured Korin’s entire stock of Senzu Beans to prevent Yajirobe from wasting them, then slapped Yajirobe and gave him a bean to demonstrate its healing effects. Yajirobe recovered and abandoned the idea of eating Senzu Beans as meals.

  • Master Korin agreed to give Tien Shinhan most of the Senzu Beans and let Yajirobe have some of what remained.
  • Yajirobe asked Tien Shinhan to leave him more beans, and Tien Shinhan took both barrels of Senzu Beans with a Hoi-Poi Capsule.
  • Yajirobe demanded that Tien Shinhan leave him a barrel, so Tien Shinhan slapped him hard enough to gravely injure him.
  • Tien Shinhan explained that he had injured Yajirobe to demonstrate the Senzu Bean’s healing power, then gave Yajirobe one to eat.
  • Yajirobe healed and decided not to waste Senzu Beans as meals.

Ch. 15Come on! Training time means soaring battle power!

Tien Shinhan secured Korin’s remaining Senzu Beans and led Goku and Chiaotzu to Kami’s Lookout for further training. Mr. Popo welcomed them and offered to train them while Kami remained absent.

  • Tien Shinhan offered Yajirobe another Senzu Bean, frightening him into refusing and staying at Korin Tower.
  • Tien Shinhan asked Korin to let him take the entire stock of Senzu Beans, and Korin agreed.
  • Tien Shinhan, Goku, and Chiaotzu rode the Power Pole to Kami’s Lookout while Yajirobe stayed behind.
  • Mr. Popo introduced himself and explained that Kami had invited the three martial artists for further training as a reward for fighting King Piccolo.
  • Tien Shinhan accepted Mr. Popo’s training offer eagerly, while knowing Kami was still deciding whether to appear before them.

Ch. 16The Limit Breakthrough trait awakened: stronger against stronger foes!

Mr. Popo used clones to teach Tien Shinhan, Goku, and Chiaotzu advanced ki techniques through combat. Tien Shinhan rapidly grew stronger under pressure, defeated his clone, and asked Mr. Popo to make another so he could continue training Ki Sensing.

  • Mr. Popo explained that mastering ki involved more than gathering and releasing it, then arranged for the three fighters to battle clones with basic ki-sensing skills.
  • Mr. Popo created clones using strands of hair or other body hair, and Tien Shinhan, Goku, and Chiaotzu began fighting them.
  • Tien Shinhan's clone sensed his Solar Flare and dodged, while the clones counterattacked and pressured all three fighters.
  • Tien Shinhan's Limit Breakthrough trait activated during the intense fight, raising his battle power as he adapted and began learning Ki Sensing.
  • After half an hour, Tien Shinhan's battle power reached 330 and he smashed his clone apart with a few attacks.
  • Tien Shinhan asked Mr. Popo to create another clone so he could continue training, and Mr. Popo agreed to try despite Tien Shinhan having surpassed his own battle power.

Ch. 17Not enough! Next!

Tien Shinhan, Goku, and Chiaotzu completed Mr. Popo’s training, improving their strength and beginning to sense and manipulate ki. Kami appeared at the Lookout, and Tien Shinhan’s composure and rapid growth made Kami consider him as a possible successor.

  • Tien Shinhan defeated five or six clones in half a day, raising his power level to nearly 700 and gaining an initial grasp of Ki Sensing and ki manipulation.
  • Kami appeared at Kami’s Lookout, startling Goku and Chiaotzu, who mistook him for King Piccolo.
  • Mr. Popo explained that the figure was Kami, and Kami offered to explain his connection to King Piccolo.
  • Kami asked why Tien Shinhan was unsurprised, and Tien Shinhan replied that Kami’s ki differed from King Piccolo’s.
  • Kami praised the three for applying Ki Sensing and warned them not to rely on it too much, while considering Tien Shinhan as a possible successor.

Ch. 18Preparing for the Ultra Divine Water challenge, searching for the Fountain of Youth!

After three months of training with Kami, Tien Shinhan, Goku, and Chiaotzu mastered essential Ki techniques, and Tien’s power surpassed 1,000. Tien set out to find the Fountain of Youth before attempting the Ultra Divine Water, while Goku returned to Kame House to see Krillin.

  • Kami explained that he and King Piccolo had once been one person, and that either would die if the other died.
  • Tien Shinhan, Goku, and Chiaotzu completed three months of training, with Tien’s power rising to nearly 1,100.
  • Tien decided to replenish the life force he had lost by finding the Fountain of Youth before challenging the Ultra Divine Water.
  • Goku declined to join the search and headed back to Kame House to visit Krillin.
  • Tien told Chiaotzu that Fortuneteller Baba, Master Roshi’s older sister, was the first person to drink from the Fountain of Youth and would know where to find it.

Ch. 19Fortuneteller Baba couldn't lose

Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu visited Bulma to sell the Pilaf Gang’s airship and raise money for a fortune-telling session. After receiving one billion, Tien Shinhan reached Fortuneteller Baba’s palace, where she demanded the entire sum to reveal the Fountain of Youth’s location; he chose to challenge her fighters instead.

  • Tien Shinhan told Chiaotzu they needed money before visiting Fortuneteller Baba, then decided to sell the airship taken from the Pilaf Gang to Bulma.
  • Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu flew to Bulma’s home, where Bulma agreed to buy the airship for one billion after hearing it contained a Dragon Radar detector.
  • Tien Shinhan flew to Fortuneteller Baba’s desert palace and learned she would charge one billion to divine the Fountain of Youth’s location.
  • Tien Shinhan refused to pay and asked to fight instead, while Fortuneteller Baba welcomed the prospect of watching him battle.

Ch. 20One punch each-one person was enough!

Tien Shinhan defeated Fortuneteller Baba’s five warriors despite the ring’s increased gravity and earned a free fortune-telling session. He asked Baba to divine the location of the Fountain of Youth.

  • Fortuneteller Baba told Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu that they had to defeat all five warriors in succession to earn a free reading.
  • Baba used her crystal ball to increase the ring’s gravity to three times normal, giving Fangs the Vampire an advantage over Tien Shinhan.
  • Tien Shinhan knocked Fangs the Vampire unconscious and out of the ring with one punch.
  • Tien Shinhan defeated Invisible Man, Mummy, Devilman, and Son Gohan with one punch each, using Ki Sensing to counter Invisible Man’s invisibility.
  • Fortuneteller Baba accepted that Tien Shinhan had fulfilled the challenge, and Tien Shinhan asked her to find the Fountain of Youth.
