At that thought, Li Ang turned to look at the utterly exhausted Laufey.
"This is all your fault, you bastard!" Li Ang's face was filled with fury. If not for Laufey, Loki would have been tied up long ago.
Laufey looked at the wounds covering his body and laughed in anger. "My fault?"
He felt wronged, too. After Loki tricked him into coming here, Loki had strengthened him with the Casket of Ancient Winters and then sent him out to die.
He had thought he would get to kill the Prince of Asgard himself, only for a lunatic like this to turn up!
He was just about to speak when a streak of light hurtled toward them from afar, so fast that the sound only reached them after it arrived.
Shlk!
At that soft sound, Laufey froze. So did Li Ang.
Laufey lowered his head and stared blankly at the spear piercing his chest.
"Holy shit!" Li Ang looked around and found that the spear was vibrating constantly. Then it pulled itself free and flew off into the distance!
During that brief pause, Li Ang had gotten a clear look. That was Gungnir, Odin's weapon.
He had just fought Laufey tooth and nail, yet now all Odin had to do was throw his weapon. It flew over on its own and skewered Laufey straight through the heart.
"Odin's awake? Seriously?" Li Ang felt a little shaken, too.
Laufey spat out a great mouthful of blood, then promptly toppled backward, putting his death on display.
Seeing Laufey dead did not make Li Ang particularly happy, but it was not because he felt sad about the passing of a life.
That required a strong sense of empathy and morality, and Li Ang had neither.
Besides, Laufey was a Frost Giant. To put it nicely, he counted as a person; to put it bluntly, he was livestock. What was there to sympathize with?
He was unhappy because he did not know whether Laufey being skewered to death by Odin counted toward his mission progress!
He eagerly checked his progress on the mission to kill villains.
Oh!
It had gone up by one!
Counting Abomination, Deacon, and Laufey, he already had three. He only needed to kill two more.
At that thought, Li Ang even felt eager to give it a try and kill a few people who had yet to become villains.
But that would be putting the effect before the cause. The system had said he would be punished for that, such as losing three centimeters-in height.
Or something even worse: having his cannon swapped for a water pistol.
Li Ang was not stupid. There was no need to take that risk.
His only concern now was missing the Battle of New York. That would cost him an enormous amount of Presence.
Just as Li Ang was considering what to do, a carriage approached from the distance.
The carriage traveled through the air. Odin was aboard, leaning on his spear, along with a dejected Thor.
Upon seeing Li Ang, the carriage slowly descended. Odin stepped out, leaning on his spear, his voice and tone indescribably weary. "We owe you much for this."
There was more to his words. He was not merely referring to holding Laufey back, but more to what had happened on Earth.
Smiling, Li Ang was about to offer a modest reply, but Odin saw through him. "No need for modesty. Asgard always repays its debts. Once the Bifrost is repaired, you may choose an item from the vault."
Odin's vault! Delight flashed in Li Ang's eyes. There were plenty of good things in there.
"For now, stay in Asgard."
After he agreed, Thor and Odin left. Who knew what the father and son were off to do?
Soon, Sif came over.
Seeing Li Ang's completely intact battle suit, she raised an eyebrow. "Do you have a lot of outfits?"
Li Ang rested his hand against his chin. "You could say that. So, where am I staying?"
Having come to Asgard, it would hardly be right not to experience its simple local customs.
With Sif leading the way, Li Ang passed through Asgard's streets.
The place gave Li Ang a medieval feeling, like The Witcher 3: swords and magic, castles and adventures. It felt quite novel.
Only after he returned to the quarters Odin had arranged for him did Li Ang let out a sigh of relief.
The first thing he did once he settled down was take a hot bath.
Asgardians still even used wooden tubs for bathing. After lying down in one, Li Ang began checking his current panel.
He needed to start preparing for the Battle of New York that Loki would cause.
He knew full well that the Battle of New York was imminent. If he could seize this opportunity, his strength would increase tremendously.
Then he could trample Pierce, Ikaris, and even Thanos underfoot.
A global event like this was not something he could afford to miss.
The earlier Whiplash mission had already been completed, granting him a ten-pull and ten attribute points.
Now the Thor mission was complete as well.
His Presence had also reached [140229].
Most importantly, this mission, The King Approaches, had not only granted ten attribute points and the Illusion Spell, but also the Power of Thor!
Li Ang immediately clicked to claim his rewards. Soon, tingling sensations welled up inside his body.
The feeling gradually intensified. Li Ang wasted no time dumping all twenty attribute points into his physique, then spent 100,000 Presence outright to exchange for twenty attribute points, splitting them between the other two stats.
At that moment, Li Ang's panel stats soared!
[Master: Li Ang] [Presence: 40300 (each upgrade costs 5000 Presence)] [Man of Steel lv: 52, Heat Vision lv: 23, Super Senses lv: 23, Gravity Capture Net (cannot be upgraded)] [System ability upgrades (unlocked), Conscientious Slot Machine (unlocked)]
This time, a pleasure that nearly overwhelmed his reason spread throughout his body!
How could he describe it? Eating a steaming bowl of noodles after starving for ten days? No, that could not capture the satisfaction!
Li Ang was practically floating, his eyes narrowing as he slipped into a daze.
Once that feeling faded, Li Ang carefully stood up, resting a gentle hand against the wooden tub to avoid crushing it with excessive force.
His enhanced brain soon brought his body under control. Once again, he adapted perfectly to his strength.
A heavier heartbeat than before, sharper hearing, greater strength!
He raised a hand, arcs of electricity dancing in his palm. As he was now, he could definitely kill Laufey with ease.
That surging sense of power put him at ease.
Next came everyone's favorite part.
That was right-the draws!
He had to make some preparations for the upcoming Battle of New York.
When he opened the panel, the same familiar slot machine appeared. Li Ang got dressed and sat down at the table.
"Let's get straight to it!"
This time, there were no gold coins right out of the gate. On the very first draw, Li Ang saw an icon he had never seen before slowly come to a stop.
A medal!
Li Ang's eyes widened. He had a feeling this would be his luckiest draw yet!
Sure enough, a second medal slowly stopped. By the time the third medal slowly settled into place, Li Ang's breathing had quickened.
What would it be?
Dazzling golden light appeared before his eyes, and the system's voice sounded in his ears.
[Golden legendary!]
"Holy shit, I pulled gold!"
