Background / History

Previous life and inherited identity

In his previous life, Dick was an orphan who remembered the orphanage as a happy home. He respected its elderly director and remained fond of his childhood companions. After earning admission to a five-year architecture program, he entered a private company, where workplace abuse became a defining source of trauma 442 443.

His soul transmigrated into a newly trained witcher stationed in Odinburg. The body's original owner had bullied merchants, taken food without paying, and worked as an assassin under a man called Master. Dick inherited both that reputation and the consequences of the original owner's crimes 2 3 26 31.

Master claimed to have rescued the original Dick from a pile of corpses, raised him on goat's milk, and trained him as a witcher. A later vision showed the original owner carrying out his first assassination mission at thirteen: he killed a noble's family but spared other people at the estate. Master followed to eliminate those left behind, making the original Dick an accomplice in the tragedy involving Ruiwen's family 104 210 211.

Odinburg

Dick killed the Broom Witch and brought the rescued boy, Little Tom, home. Xiya initially suspected him of abducting the child, but accepted Tom's explanation. Dick subsequently began paying merchants rather than exploiting them, and added extra money to meals as compensation for his predecessor's behavior 2 3 31 221.

With a Witcher Order assessment approaching and the dead witch's accomplices threatening revenge, Dick pursued contracts to strengthen himself. A later Broom Witch attack subjected him to a dangerous mutation, but also led to stronger witcher physiology and regenerative abilities. Xiya intervened during the battle 2 34 35 36.

He then helped defend Odinburg against the Jatu. The defense earned him a large Energy Point reward, payment from Kebi, and public recognition that sharply contrasted with his inherited reputation as a bully and child trafficker 49 50 53.

Travels and the Witcher Order crisis

Dick's travels brought him into contact with his senior brother Kayn, the Black Cat Mercenary Company, Geralt, and Queen Meve's political sphere. He investigated an inn massacre rather than accepting Kayn's guilt, and later followed clues connecting the threats against him to a golden-dragon seal 85 86 126 143.

At the witchers' stronghold, he trained with the School of the Grizzly Bear and worked in the laboratory. By the Crown Festival, he felt accepted among the monster hunters and had begun to regard their community—and the world itself—as his home 176 181 196.

The investigation of No Man's Land led into a disaster involving mutated witchers and the Order's underground research. During its aftermath, Master severed Dick's arm and pierced his heart. Dick survived by upgrading his regeneration and awakened Blood of Madness before counterattacking. He subsequently helped recover survivors, mourn the dead, and clear the remaining monsters from Lynx Fort 198 209 213 215.

Protecting Xiya

Queen Meve publicly presented Dick, Vesemir, and Geralt as allies, then later entrusted Dick with protecting Luca and preserving peace between the Northern Kingdoms and the Witcher Order 233 262.

When mercenaries hunted Xiya, Dick defended her and the villagers sheltering them. Their journey toward Noldor Forest brought repeated ambushes, worsening fire-element symptoms for Xiya, and battles across the Mist Swamp. Completing the escort supplied the points for synchronized Giant Transformation and Master-level Fighting 286 287 298.

His defense of a witch produced the fearsome title Red Hair Devil. By the time he heard villagers repeat that he had killed tens of thousands of mercenaries, Dick recognized that the story had become exaggerated 341.

Sea God's trials and divinity

Gabriel recruited Dick against Duncan through the Dawn Sword, revealing that Ruiwen was still alive. Dick agreed to oppose Duncan, but refused Gabriel's demand that he spare the Knights of the Eventide and restore their faith 329.

In the Deep-Sea World, Dick passed trials, gained Fishman Body, and continued through the Sea God's trial alongside Valkyrie. He later killed Slithereen and confronted Sparta over the killing of civilians. The Kraken Sea Monster supplied three Divinity Fragments, substantially increasing his physique; he subsequently acquired the Demigod talent 354 375 382 390 392 397.

Descent through Hell

After completing King Lioke's trial, Dick entered Hell in a physical body. He continued to advance through battles and trials, protecting fellow adventurers and selecting abilities that benefited his entire party 400 401 409 413.

In Burning City, two companions murdered the veteran and tried to turn on Dick. He killed them, defeated an Abyss Observer, and received Toxin Immunity from Minos. Virgil later warned him that Dexit—an enemy he knew in the mortal world as Yuejiqi—intended to target him 427 428.

Deeper in Hell, Dick escaped a mire that forced him to relive his former workplace abuse, endured a one-minute combat challenge against Feileijisi, and reached the Bone King's arena and territories. He accepted a task connected to the Bone King's conflict with the Soul Undertaker and continued onward with teammates 443 445 447.

Appearance

  • Hair and eyes: Fiery red hair and golden, feline eyes. Both are recognizable enough to compromise attempts to conceal his witcher identity 3 145 255.
  • Build: Handsome, lean, and muscular, with defined chest, abdominal, and arm muscles; not exceptionally large in his ordinary form 3 37 66.
  • Regenerative changes: Intermediate Self-Healing clears facial blemishes and leaves his teeth exceptionally white 55.
  • Giant form: Can become a five-meter-tall bronze giant 400.
  • Blood of Madness: His eyes become blood-red and his grin stretches toward his ears; its initial awakening also exposes rows of sharp teeth 213 375.

Personality

Dick is pragmatic about survival and treats growing stronger as the most reliable answer to the dangers around him. He is willing to retreat from an unfavorable battle, use deception, and exploit an opponent's assumptions rather than gamble on a miraculous breakthrough. He also studies, practices, and spars instead of relying entirely on purchased upgrades 31 32 128 176 213.

He draws a moral distinction between fighting enemies and harming innocents. He compensates merchants for his predecessor's behavior, refuses a proposal to kill craftsmen to protect the Order's location, and challenges Sparta's attempt to justify murdering civilians through hatred of humanity 31 228 390. His care for Xiya, Ruiwen, and injured teammates is expressed through practical acts such as nursing, sheltering, and bandaging them 117 286 413.

His growing confidence includes a genuine appetite for testing himself against strong opponents. That drive coexists with dangerous emotional instability: he identifies Calm as the missing part of his School of the Lynx personality, and once loses control badly enough to attack his own allies 213 316 354 430.

Abilities & Skills

Skill Panel and Secondary Mutation

  • Learns abilities through study and experience, then uses Energy Points to accelerate their development 1 3 176.
  • Receives rewards from monster kills, first kills of monster categories, and completed commissions 50 158.
  • After Secondary Mutation, the panel states that Combat, Signs, and Alchemy must be developed to Master before further Grandmaster advancement becomes available; each Grandmaster upgrade then costs an additional 1,000 points 325.
  • His panel-enhanced Giant Transformation avoids the pain and speed penalties he had been warned to expect from conventional enlargement 281.

Swordsmanship

  • Sword Qi: Reinforces a weapon and its cutting edge, improves cutting power, and helps prevent breakage. Full coverage consumes considerable physical energy; limiting it to the edge trades power for endurance 158.
  • Sword Qi projection: Grandmaster Swordsmanship allows him to release Sword Qi beyond the blade 325.
  • Panther Zither Jade: A spinning sword assault that becomes steerable at Master level. Extreme Leap can further accelerate its launch 184 208.
  • Precision against armored enemies: Probes defenses and attacks exposed areas rather than repeatedly striking an impenetrable surface, as demonstrated against the Tide Giant 354.

Fighting and Giant Transformation

  • Can enlarge individual limbs or his whole body, using sudden partial enlargement to overpower an opponent during a weapon clash 269 281 418.
  • Synchronization removes the mismatch between his enlarged body and ordinary-sized equipment, allowing Giant Transformation to work with his sword techniques 298.
  • Master Fighting creates force winds around his limbs; these become stronger and wider when enlarged 298.
  • Grandmaster Fighting unlocks Three Heads and Six Arms, whose expanded field of vision helps him control attacks around teammates 400 409.
  • Giant Transformation can be activated repeatedly while he retains sufficient strength, unlike Blood of Madness's documented daily restriction 364.

Signs

Sign Advanced applications and limits
Piercing Cold Shockwave Combines impact and movement disruption with freezing; weak enemies can freeze and disintegrate. Dick also uses it to disperse obstructing mist and releases it through a stomp 325 425 438.
Protection Sign At Grandmaster, creates up to ten shield layers within twenty meters. Allies can attack outward, and broken or deliberately detonated shields release stored shockwaves 409.
Lava Produces a lava fire dragon; separated flames cling to targets and explode 410.
Magic Trap Slows corporeal as well as incorporeal enemies, gains damaging sparks, and eventually permits permanent sealing of evil spirits 351 410.
Hypnosis At Grandmaster, works through eye contact and draws opponents into his mental domain. There, his abilities increase by one hundred percent while an opponent's can decrease by up to fifty percent; stronger minds suffer less reduction 410.

Regeneration and Reinforced Physiology

  • Super Self-Healing: Regenerates missing body parts and vital organs, including the heart and brain, and greatly slows aging. Missing parts regenerate gradually rather than instantaneously 213.
  • Steel Sinews and Iron Bones: Strengthens his sinews and bones and accelerates their repair, complementing his broader regeneration 260.
  • Severe injury recovery: After his uncontrolled rampage, a doctor reports that extensive wounds, twisted internal organs, and fractured neck vertebrae disappeared within an hour, although Dick remained unconscious for three days 317.
  • Toxin Immunity: Received from Minos during his descent through Hell 427.

Blood of Madness

  • Initially doubles dynamic vision and neural response speed for three minutes, once per day 213.
  • Cannot stack with similar potion buffs under its original description 213.
  • Lets him overwhelm the trial phantom that reproduces his ordinary witcher abilities but lacks his talents 375.
  • Is associated with a dangerous loss of control: Geralt, Russell, and Jesse must restrain him before Ralf knocks him unconscious 316.

Mobility and Aquatic Adaptation

  • Super Extreme Leap: Multiplies jumping power fivefold and permits a second jump while airborne 413.
  • Intermediate Blink: Provides movement over one hundred meters, usable every thirty seconds 413.
  • Fishman Body: Combines underwater pressure resistance, fishman-like swimming speed and agility, and underwater breathing 354.
  • Fishman Body also supplies magnetic-field perception, which he uses to navigate underwater 382.

Ranged Combat and Alchemy

  • Grandmaster Bow and Crossbow Shooting extends his effective range and lets arrows carry arrow qi; his earlier Master upgrade also supports three-arrow bow shots 339 413.
  • Grandmaster Potion Making gives him extensive pharmacological knowledge 392.
  • Grandmaster Magic Bombs doubles their power and yields three bombs per set of materials 427.
  • Grandmaster Sword Oil Making doubles effects and allows six oils to be applied together 429.
  • Although he relies less on oils and bombs after mastering Sword Qi, he considers manufacturing better oils for fellow witchers to reduce their hunting casualties 392.

Beast Taming

  • Begins as a passive reduction in animals' hostility, first demonstrated with a carrier pigeon 67.
  • At Advanced level, allows communication with animals and magical creatures and the issuing of battle commands 427.

Demigod

Effect Benefit
Same-Tier Slayer Immunity to most demigod pressure; damage against demigods increases by one hundred percent, while incoming damage from them decreases by fifty percent 397.
Indomitable Reduces pressure damage from deities by fifty percent 397.
Combat and Magic Specialization Doubles the power of combat skills and Signs 397.
