History

Control of Mystic Wood Forest

The Wang and Lu households had previously contested Mystic Wood Forest, a resource site near both lineages. The Lu Household withdrew, leaving the Wangs in possession. With five Foundation Establishment cultivators against the Lus’ three, the Wang Household demonstrated its willingness to fight anyone challenging its claim 15.

The Lu Household later renewed the dispute as its own resource income declined. Lu Changfeng, Lu Changgeng, and Lu Xuanming launched a surprise attack on the forest’s guards, Wang Haocheng and Wang Zhaoran. Haocheng used the Blood-Burning Secret Method, then burned his foundation to repel all three pursuers and allow Zhaoran to escape. He died before reinforcements could reach him 15.

Defeat and the Tribute Agreement

Wang Haochang led the four surviving Foundation Establishment cultivators back to the forest. After Lu Changfeng returned Haocheng’s corpse, Zhaoran attacked in grief and began the battle. Haochang fought Changfeng, Haofeng faced Changgeng, and Zhaoran and Zhaoyu jointly pressured Xuanming 16.

Haochang’s rusty dagger nearly killed Changfeng despite his newly revealed sword intent. Nevertheless, Haochang declined to risk another costly strike or gamble the entire lineage on a battle to the death. He accepted an agreement leaving the forest under Wang control while surrendering half its monthly output to the Lu Household 16 17.

The settlement did not resolve the feud. Haochang promised eventual revenge, while Zhaoran urged an immediate ambush on the departing Lu cultivators. Haochang refused, placing his hopes in the dagger and his own prospects of reaching Golden Core 17.

Renewed Hostility

The Wang Household was subsequently identified as responsible for the attack that destroyed Lu Xuanqing’s meridians, Dantian, and cultivation foundation. The Lu elders considered retaliation, but Lu Chenxing persuaded them to wait until they were stronger and better prepared to face the dagger 25 26.

Wang scouts also tracked the Lu Household’s repeated market visits. Suspecting a secret resource channel, Haofeng proposed either intercepting Lu Changgeng and Lu Xuanming or attacking their home during their absence. Haochang rejected both plans because of possible surveillance, Lu Changfeng’s intervention, and the household’s protective formation 32.

Secret Raids

Under pressure from the Lu Household’s growth, the Wangs turned to massacres and plunder. Their first target was Clear Breeze Temple. Black-robed Wang cultivators killed its members, allowed the dagger to drain their blood, and stripped the temple of its wealth. The dagger concealed their traces, leaving the Spirit Creek Sect’s investigators unable to identify the attackers 33.

Haochang initially opposed such actions as indistinguishable from the devil path. After the raid strengthened the dagger and enriched the household, he committed to further attacks. He chose the Yang Household over the Earth Spirit Sect because the latter’s young sect master had a connection to a Spirit Creek Sect True Person 33 34.

The Lu Household’s Apparent Destruction

The nuclear blast at the Lu Household killed the Wang spies stationed nearby, cutting off their reports. When replacement scouts discovered scorched earth and an enormous crater, the Wangs mistakenly concluded that a powerful Golden Core cultivator had exterminated their rivals. Haochang temporarily canceled the Yang Household raid to avoid attracting the upper sect’s attention amid successive faction destructions 42.

Later reports revealed that the Lu Household had survived and destroyed the Blazing Yang Sect, Divine Fire Gate, and Zhao Household. Alarmed by this unexplained strength, Haochang reversed course and ordered attacks on the Yang Household followed by the Earth Spirit Sect 43.

By Chapter 50, the Wangs had destroyed the Yang Household using the same methods employed against Clear Breeze Temple. Despite these gains, they no longer dared exploit an apparent opening against the Lu Household, believing it possessed a hidden weapon comparable to Golden Core power. Haochang instead approved the Earth Spirit Sect’s destruction to gather resources for further breakthroughs 50.

Abilities and Methods

Bloodthirsty Guardian Dagger

The rusty dagger wielded by Wang Haochang is the household’s principal trump card and lineage-guarding treasure 16 32.

  • Elusive attacks: Lu Changfeng cannot locate it with Divine Sense; it turns illusory when struck by his sword 16.
  • Defense penetration: It bypasses successive layers of Sword Qi, spiritual protection, and defensive armor. Even after being knocked away, its energy injures Changfeng internally 16 17 25.
  • Blood absorption: It draws blood from corpses and the battlefield, leaving victims desiccated and increasing its own power 33.
  • Cultivation feedback: Its Qi and Blood feedback helps Haochang reach Foundation Establishment late stage 50.
  • Trace concealment: It severs evidence of the raiders’ presence, frustrating investigations into their massacres 33 42.
  • Cost: Repeating its killing strike during the forest battle would have required Haochang to use the Blood-Burning Secret Method, risking his foundation 17.

Blood-Burning Secret Method

A dangerous technique used to obtain a temporary surge of power at severe personal cost 15.

  • Burns the user’s spiritual blood first; continued use consumes the cultivation foundation 15.
  • Allows Haocheng to repel the combined attack of three Foundation Establishment cultivators long enough to save Zhaoran 15.

Surveillance and Covert Raiding

  • Maintains informants around the Lu Household and follows its elders’ market journeys 32.
  • Conducts raids in black robes, concealing its involvement behind attacks attributed to devil cultivators 33 50.
  • Uses seized faction reserves to reward members and accelerate the lineage’s cultivation 33 50.

Holdings and Resources

  • Mystic Wood Forest — Retained under Wang control after the settlement. Half its output must be delivered monthly to the Lu Household; output cannot fall below the historical level, and the Wangs must cover any shortfall. Lu representatives may inspect the figures 17.
  • Clear Breeze Temple’s reserves — Looted after the temple’s destruction, providing nearly a century of accumulated wealth from a Foundation Establishment faction 33.
  • Yang Household’s reserves — Distributed across the lineage after its destruction, supporting further collective growth 50.

Relations with Other Forces

  • Lu Household — Resource rival and sworn enemy. Neither side initially trusts that it can destroy the other without unacceptable losses; the Lu Household’s later victories make the Wangs increasingly reluctant to confront it directly 17 32 43 50.
  • Clear Breeze Temple — First faction destroyed to feed the dagger and seize resources 33.
  • Yang Household — Initially selected as a safer target because it has only two Foundation Establishment early-stage cultivators; subsequently destroyed 34 50.
  • Earth Spirit Sect — Initially spared because of its young sect master’s Spirit Creek Sect connection. Later selected for destruction despite that risk; the attack is not yet shown by Chapter 50 34 50.
  • Spirit Creek Sect — Investigates the massacres without uncovering Wang involvement. Possible discovery remains a major concern for Haochang 33 42 50.
  • Blazing Yang Sect, Divine Fire Gate, and Zhao Household — Their bandit-cultivator alliance plans to destroy both the Lu and Wang households. The alliance’s leaders are killed during their attack on the Lus before they can carry out the second part of the plan 19 39.
