Background / History

Leadership During the Household’s Decline

Lu Changfeng was one of the Lu Household’s three Foundation Establishment cultivators. As patriarch, he lived in a side hall attached to the main lineage hall on Heavenly Traversal Peak so that he could receive news and handle clan affairs promptly. Preferential access to resources had helped him reach Foundation Establishment, but his responsibilities also kept him close to the household rather than frequently venturing outside 7 30.

At his introduction, the household faced several financial problems: its black iron mine was expected to run dry within three years, spirit-field yields had declined for five consecutive years, and an attempt to train alchemists had consumed valuable medicines without producing results. Lu Changfeng questioned whether his own decisions had contributed to the decline 7 8.

Taking Responsibility for Lu Chenxing

Lu Changfeng initially dismissed Lu Xuanqing’s claim that his two-and-a-half-month-old grandson had reached Qi Refining. After personally examining Lu Chenxing and hearing him speak, he accepted the infant as an extraordinary talent. Although he first addressed him as a senior, Lu Chenxing insisted that he was simply a Lu Household disciple and called him “Grandpa Patriarch” 8.

He promised to spare nothing in nurturing the child, then recalled Lu Changgeng and Lu Xuanming to discuss the use of their shared resources. Upon learning of Lu Chenxing’s claimed wood Heavenly Spirit Root, he ordered the purchase of a suitable cultivation method with a budget of two hundred thousand Spirit Stones. He also provided books, access to the scripture pavilion, and Blood Spirit Fruits intended for talented younger disciples 8 9 11.

Conflict Over Mystic Wood Forest

Lu Chenxing’s arrival prompted Lu Changfeng to abandon his longstanding strategy of maintaining stability. Seeking resources for the child, he led Lu Changgeng and Lu Xuanming in a surprise attack on the Wang Household’s cultivators at Mystic Wood Forest. Wang Haocheng died after burning his foundation to cover Wang Zhaoran’s escape 15.

During the ensuing confrontation, Lu Changfeng revealed his Sword Intent against Wang Haochang. However, Wang Haochang’s rusty dagger bypassed his defenses and nearly pierced his heart. Lu Changfeng survived, but an unfamiliar force penetrated his dark armor and injured his internal organs 16 17.

Rather than attempt to destroy the Wang Household, he negotiated for half of Mystic Wood Forest’s output while leaving its management to the Wangs. He considered outright destruction premature: the Lu Household lacked the manpower to guard the forest safely, and eliminating its rival would draw unwanted attention 17.

Supporting the Household’s New Resource Supply

Lu Changfeng supplied artifact-refining materials, reference artifacts, and tens of thousands of Spirit Stones at Lu Chenxing’s request. Although he initially worried that artifact refining would distract the child from cultivation, he accepted that Lu Chenxing’s secrets might exceed his understanding. When large quantities of finished artifacts appeared, he instructed the elders not to pry into their source 21 22.

After the Wang Household crippled Lu Xuanqing, Lu Changfeng explained that only a fifth-tier Nirvana Pill or Heavenly Spirit Liquid could restore his cultivation. His Heart-Protecting Pill had already saved Lu Xuanqing’s life. He subsequently supported delaying retaliation until the household could fight with greater confidence 25 26.

He also accompanied Lu Chenxing on a family visit and a supervised hunting trip. In the Cloud-Soaring Mountain Range, he warned the child against arrogance, remained ready to intervene against a second-tier Black Cloud Leopard, and praised the clean victory that followed 26 27 28 29.

Assault on the Lu Household and Retaliation

News of Clear Breeze Temple’s destruction prompted Lu Changfeng to strengthen the household’s defenses. He approved selling treasury reserves to purchase supreme-grade Spirit Artifacts and protective talismans, and hired Quan Yong’an to upgrade the lineage-protecting formation 33 34 35.

Twelve Foundation Establishment attackers arrived before the new formation was complete. Recognizing that the household could not win a conventional battle, Lu Changfeng prepared to hold them off while the others escaped. He paid Quan Yong’an fifty thousand Spirit Stones to report the attack to the Spirit Creek Sect, then abandoned his last stand when Lu Chenxing offered another solution. He trusted the child and led the household toward the nuclear weapon prepared on its grounds 36.

After the explosion, he warned everyone against exposing their senses to the soul-damaging radiation particles and helped search the blast center. Once the attackers were identified as members of the Blazing Yang Sect, Divine Fire Gate, and Zhao Household, he led an immediate retaliatory campaign. At the Divine Fire Gate, he coordinated the breach of its formation and killed its fleeing elders. The Lu Household subsequently destroyed all three factions and settled at the former Blazing Yang Sect 38 39 40 41 42.

Breakthrough and Political Aftermath

Lu Changfeng finally reached Foundation Establishment Late Stage after remaining at the middle stage for over a decade. Lu Chenxing broke through to the same stage immediately afterward, using his meditation cushion 47.

When Zhu Chuanxiong investigated the destruction of the three factions, Lu Changfeng presented the campaign as self-defense and retaliation. He concealed Lu Chenxing’s involvement, attributed the attackers’ deaths to ancestral protection, and offered Quan Yong’an as a witness to the original assault. He later secured an assurance of protection from Li Kaiyang of the Spirit Creek Sect 48 49.

As resources became more plentiful, he and the other elders retained a mission-based system to encourage contributions and competition within the clan. He later agreed to accompany Lu Chenxing to Spirit Spring Market’s auction while Lu Changgeng and Lu Xuanming guarded the household 49 50.

Personality

Lu Changfeng combines patience with a willingness to take calculated risks. His century of restraint concealed exceptional sword comprehension, but he was prepared to change strategy when Lu Chenxing’s future justified it. His reluctance to fight the Wang Household again came from avoiding uncertain battles, not simple fear 15 17 26.

He is openly affectionate toward Lu Chenxing without demanding explanations for every anomaly. When the child used techniques inconsistent with his claimed wood Heavenly Spirit Root, Lu Changfeng chose not to question him. His concern also extends to ordinary clansmen: he thanked Zhong Hui for her contribution to the lineage and withdrew from the family visit when his presence made everyone uncomfortable 27 29.

He recognizes others’ contributions and handles obligations carefully. He credits Lu Changgeng and Lu Xuanming with securing the resources behind the household’s survival, compensates Quan Yong’an during the crisis, and prepares gifts when dealing with stronger sects 30 36 48 49.
