Power Progression
Wang Xiu’s later combat strength exceeds what his stated cultivation realm alone would suggest. Realm confirmations, technique breakthroughs, and combat benchmarks are distinguished below 712 719.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Late-stage Qi Refining | 92 | Already capable of infiltrating Sword-Washing Mountain and incapacitating guards, but helpless against the Nascent Soul cultivator Zhang Luolin. |
| Early False Core | 284 | Situ Zhe explicitly identifies his cultivation before their duel. |
| Immortal Slaying Flying Knife — first level | 284 | Su Yi implants the technique into his mind during the duel. Wang Xiu takes control of Situ Zhe’s four knives and turns them against him. |
| Witchcraft initiation | 454 | Joins the Witch Cult while still in the False Core Realm. Begins painful body tempering in a bronze cauldron, where the medicinal treatment consumes his circulating Qi. |
| Golden Core–equivalent strength | 697 | Retrospectively described as his strength around the time he became Dijiang’s disciple, before Su Yi left for the Immortal Realm. |
| Claimed Nascent Soul–level combat ability | 494 | Boasts that he can fight Nascent Soul experts on even terms after training at the Immortal Cultivation Academy; this is his own assessment. |
| Immortal-Slaying Flying Dagger — second level | 699 | Masters the second level while contemplating the technique beside Su Yi. Su Yi’s pat on his shoulder helps trigger the breakthrough. |
| All personal attributes doubled | 712 | Receives the Land of Terror’s five-survivor reward. Before the increase, he could match an ordinary Tribulation Transcendence cultivator; afterward, he is described as capable of killing one instantly. |
| Ascension Stage–comparable combat strength | 719 | After leaving the Land of Terror, can challenge Ascension Stage experts even without Su Yi’s divine dagger. This is roughly S-Rank combat ability, not a confirmed Ascension Stage breakthrough. |
| Precise control of the divine dagger | 730 731 | A masked, white-robed figure teaches him to control its power without indiscriminately devastating his surroundings. The teacher is Su Yi. |
| Blood-energy saber technique | 756 758 | Learns by watching the disguised Su Yi fight a robot. Combines the newly understood saber intent with his Qi, blood energy, and flying-dagger technique in a space-collapsing attack. |
| Constitution strengthened by Crimson Flame Vermilion Fruit | 765 | Absorbs the fruit through Dijiang’s cultivation method over several hours. His constitution improves dramatically, supporting direct clashes with Ascension Stage experts and some S-Rank beasts. |
| Mental-power breakthrough | 810 | Uses the brush and inkstone recommended by Su Yi to paint an ancient landscape. His mental world expands from a “small pond” into “rivers and lakes,” with a perceived path toward the sea. |
Background / History
Childhood and Arrival in Qingzhou
Wang Degui found Wang Xiu as a baby and raised him as his disciple. Wang Xiu cultivated in the mountains from childhood, receiving little exposure to women or ordinary social life. After completing his apprenticeship, he followed his master’s instructions to seek out Ye Lin in Qingzhou 86 494 731.
Ye Lin arranged for him to become Ye Xiaxuan’s bodyguard, but she instead sent him to work at Green Mountain Bookstore. Su Yi assigned him the daytime shift, cleaning and assisting customers, for a monthly salary of two thousand. Wang Xiu immediately imagined Ye Xiaxuan as his future wife and tried to treat Su Yi, her supposed younger cousin, as his own junior relative 86.
Early Misadventures
Eager to demonstrate his knowledge, Wang Xiu volunteered to examine Yang Zhengcheng’s relics from Sword-Washing Mountain. He later infiltrated the mountain’s guarded cave, used silver needles to incapacitate five soldiers, and attempted to take the Purple Lightning Hammer. Zhang Luolin caught him in the act 86 92.
Wang Xiu subsequently arranged for Zhang Luolin to stay upstairs at the bookstore. He deferred to the Nascent Soul expert without realizing that Zhang was deeply afraid of Su Yi. When Su Yi refused the accommodation, Wang Xiu worried that Zhang might retaliate against him rather than recognizing why the senior had withdrawn so readily 94 95 96.
His ambition to dominate Qingzhou’s underground led him to demand two hundred thousand a month in protection money from Fan Jia’s bar. He assaulted the staff and knocked down two police officers before Su Yi secretly sealed his energy, allowing the police to arrest him. The initial detention was set at fifteen days; his eventual return to the bookstore followed more than a month in custody, and Gu Tongtong had also caught and beaten him during an escape attempt 122 123 124 283 284.
Cultivation and Changing Priorities
After his release, Wang Xiu defended Su Yi against Situ Zhe, despite believing Su Yi barely possessed any cultivation. His willingness to risk his life moved Su Yi, who secretly granted him the first level of Immortal Slaying Flying Knife. Although the technique reversed the fight, Gu Tongtong easily subdued him when he ignored her order to stop 283 284.
The encounter exposed how many cultivators surpassed him and strengthened his resolve to improve. He later joined the Thirteenth Bureau and entered Dijiang’s Witch Cult, enduring cauldron tempering alongside Lin Yiyun and Yuan Haoran 285 292 295 454.
Repeated setbacks gradually tempered his fantasies of effortless success. He gave up pursuing Ye Xiaxuan after recognizing her relationship with Su Yi and redirected his romantic attention toward Bai Miaomiao. Nevertheless, he continued offering Su Yi protection and encouraging him to cultivate 494.
Cataclysm and the Land of Terror
Following the worldwide eruption of spiritual energy, Wang Xiu fought mutated creatures and became devoted to reclaiming Huaxia and protecting its people. When he reunited with Su Yi after six years, his concerns had shifted from becoming an underground overlord to restoring peace 699 700.
He entered the Land of Terror out of concern for Su Yi. Although he boasted that he could defeat Qian Hao’s five-person alliance, he preferred to hide and exploit its likely internal betrayals. He survived the trial’s attribute-doubling reward and received an immensely destructive throwing dagger from Su Yi 709 712 714.
Wang Xiu refused to use the weapon merely to impress others, arguing that saving refugees mattered more than displaying power. He also rejected the idea of relying entirely on treasures, insisting that he wanted to grow stronger through his own efforts 714.
Kunlun Mountain and Spirit Wood Town
Wang Xiu took Su Yi and Xu Diandian to Kunlun Mountain for training, only to become the main target of the exercise himself. Su Yi secretly controlled a white tiger and other mutated beasts to force him to adapt to his increased strength. Wang Xiu repeatedly held back his divine dagger because of the risk to nearby people and the mountain range 720 721 722 723.
During the ordeal, a masked figure appeared within a mysterious space and taught him to control the dagger. Wang Xiu interpreted this as proof that the weapon was a family heirloom and that the figure was his father. These conclusions were his own speculation; Su Yi was responsible for the instruction 730 731 732.
After transferring to Spirit Wood Town, Wang Xiu killed Bahuang Qi and a scar-faced opponent during a contentious city-planning meeting. Huang Changyu appointed him captain of the new Inspection Team, responsible for enforcing order. Wang Xiu then began recruiting locally rather than transferring his former subordinates from Qingzhou 738 740 751.
Gate of Evolution and Later Training
Inside the Gate of Evolution, Wang Xiu accompanied Xu Diandian through a robot-filled ruin. Su Yi intervened in the guise of a bronze-masked man, demonstrated a blood-energy saber technique, and gave Wang Xiu a black saber. Wang Xiu again suspected the mysterious instructor might be his father 754 756 759.
Xu Diandian’s later breakthrough injured him with unintentionally released sword energy. She gave him a Crimson Flame Vermilion Fruit, which he used to strengthen his constitution. Their exploration also yielded formation manuals, while Wang Xiu retained fifteen selected treasures, a robot, and the black saber 764 765 805.
By this period, he accepted that Su Yi was extraordinarily powerful. On Su Yi’s recommendation, he selected an ancient inkstone and a worn brush to cultivate his state of mind. His first painting session with them produced a major mental-power breakthrough 803 809 810.
Appearance
- Initial appearance: A young man wearing simple, plain clothes when he first enters the bookstore 86.
- Witchcraft battle state: His blood energy surges upward, his muscles swell, and his body can grow slightly larger. During the Land of Terror battles, his expanding muscles burst his clothes apart 710 754.
Personality
Wang Xiu initially combines genuine innocence with extreme self-confidence. Newly arrived from mountain cultivation, he dismisses ordinary people, imagines himself effortlessly defeating wealthy rivals, and assumes beautiful women belong in his future harem. He enjoys showing off and repeatedly interprets events through fantasies of hidden inheritances, exceptional bloodlines, and destined success 86 494 731 732.
His self-appointed “big brother” role is not entirely empty boasting. He risks injury to protect Su Yi, follows him into the Land of Terror, and feels no desire to murder him for the trial’s final reward. Even after learning that Su Yi is formidable, he continues to regard him as a friend rather than merely a powerful patron 284 709 714 809.
Experience makes him more patriotic and responsible without eliminating his swagger. He prioritizes refugees over spectacular displays of power and wants strength earned through training, but remains ruthless toward people he considers threats to public order. His immediate killing of two meeting opponents contrasts sharply with his later assurance that he will kill only when necessary 714 740 742.
Abilities & Skills
Immortal-Slaying Flying Dagger
A weapon-control technique secretly supplied by Su Yi, initially called Immortal Slaying Flying Knife 284 699.
- Control seizure: Takes Situ Zhe’s inherited throwing knives out of his control despite having weaker cultivation 284.
- Multiple-weapon attacks: Directs several daggers simultaneously; against Qian Hao, repeatedly strikes a weak point at a frequency that produces resonance 712.
- Artifact refinement: Nourishes his ordinary flying daggers with blood essence and divine sense 712.
- Flight: Rides a throwing knife and can control another to transport Su Yi 719.
- Limits: His cultivation and weapon quality still matter. Gu Tongtong destroys his early knives, while Xu Diandian’s Green Duckweed Sword also breaks several during a later spar 284 720.
Witchcraft and Body Tempering
Dijiang’s teachings give Wang Xiu a powerful body and abundant blood energy 454 710.
- Enhanced strength and speed: Surpasses most immortal cultivators at the same level in these physical attributes 710.
- Durability: Ordinary bullets and physical attacks cannot injure him 754.
- Recovery: Uses Witchcraft to heal substantial injuries rapidly 765.
- Blood-energy reinforcement: Swells his muscles and strengthens his body during combat 710 754.
- Spiritual detection: Can recognize the aura of demons and specters through his combined Taoist and Witchcraft training 712.
Saber Techniques
Learns to turn blood energy into saber qi by observing Su Yi’s masked demonstration. His vigorous blood energy makes the method particularly suitable for him 756.
- Combines saber intent with his flying-dagger technique, Qi, and blood energy in a single attack that collapses the surrounding space 758.
- Claims the resulting slash can “break all techniques,” but avoids testing that claim in a spar with Xu Diandian 759.
- By the sword-formation trial, has learned two sets of saber techniques but lacks a comparable foundation in swordsmanship 764.
Mental Power and Object Manipulation
Possesses fine telekinetic control, later strengthened through the Land of Terror and painting practice 291 712 810.
- Drives a coin three centimeters into a wooden table and levitates a twenty-kilogram dumbbell 291.
- Uses strengthened mental power to identify weaknesses in Qian Hao’s steel saber 712.
- Experiences a major expansion of his mental world after painting with the brush and inkstone chosen by Su Yi 810.
Other Skills
- Antique authentication: Learned methods of examining ancient objects during childhood 86.
- Stealth and needle use: Slips past guards, disguises himself as a staff member, and incapacitates five soldiers with silver needles 92.
- Guzheng playing: Attempts Eight Scenes of Chang’an, but his performance is dreadful despite his confidence and offer to teach Su Yi 121.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Divine throwing dagger — Given by Su Yi in the Land of Terror. Its first demonstrated throw tears open space and erases streets and houses. Su Yi later grants it sentience and teaches Wang Xiu precise control; its usable power still depends on Wang Xiu’s cultivation 714 731 758.
- Ordinary flying daggers — Magical weapons refined with blood essence and divine sense. Used for combat and flight; several are destroyed during encounters with stronger opponents 712 719 720.
- Black saber — Given by the bronze-masked Su Yi after his demonstration against a robot 756 759.
- Robot — Acquired through the Gate of Evolution; follows him through the ruins 762 805.
- Storage ring and retained treasures — Holds weapons, treasures, and cultivation techniques. Wang Xiu selects fifteen treasures before the remaining collection is handed over to Spirit Wood Town 805.
- Ancient inkstone and worn brush — Selected on Su Yi’s advice. The inkstone has a visible artifact spirit; using the pair to paint leads to Wang Xiu’s mental-power breakthrough 809 810.
Relationships
- Su Yi — Bookstore coworker and close friend whom Wang Xiu initially appoints as his “little brother.” Wang Xiu repeatedly tries to protect and motivate him, while Su Yi secretly supplies techniques, weapons, and training. He eventually recognizes Su Yi’s overwhelming strength without abandoning their friendship 86 284 714 803 809.
- Wang Degui — First master, who found him as an infant and raised him as a disciple. Sends him to Ye Lin in Qingzhou and hopes he might form a match with Ye Xiaxuan 147 167 731.
- Dijiang / Wu Jiang — Later master and one of the ten great Witch Gods. Accepts him into the Witch Cult and teaches the body-cultivation methods underlying his physical strength 454 714.
- Ye Xiaxuan — Intended bodyguard client and early romantic pursuit. She assigns him to the bookstore instead; he later abandons his pursuit after recognizing her relationship with Su Yi 86 494.
- Bai Miaomiao — Later romantic interest whom he meets through the Immortal Cultivation Academy. He repeatedly visits her restaurant and shows off in front of her 494.
- Xu Diandian — Training companion and competitive benchmark. He envies her treasures and rapid progress but repeatedly worries about her safety; she helps him recover with a Crimson Flame Vermilion Fruit 719 754 759 765.
- Zhang Luolin — Nascent Soul senior whom he initially reveres and accommodates at the bookstore, unaware of Zhang’s subordinate attitude toward Su Yi 94 95 108.
- Gu Tongtong — Captures him after a detention escape and later beats him for refusing to stop his attack on Situ Zhe 284.
- Situ Zhe — Antagonistic cultivator whose attacks prompt Wang Xiu’s first flying-knife breakthrough. Their hostility resurfaces when Situ Zhe humiliates him in Bai Miaomiao’s restaurant 284 495.
- Huang Changyu — Spirit Wood Town leader who recruits him and appoints him Inspection Team captain, valuing his willingness to confront obstructive factions 738 740 742.
