Realm Structure
Epoch Rings
- Dao Ancestors forge Dao Towers; Epoch Hegemons condense Epoch Rings. A complete Overlord Divine Rune is identified with a complete Epoch Ring 1923 2194.
- Ring count distinguishes ranks within the realm. One ring is initially described as the lowest and nine as the highest, although later chapters explicitly identify ten-ring Epoch Hegemons 1923 2296.
- Equal realm does not mean equal strength. Exceptional hegemons can crush others at the same cultivation realm 1379 1899.
| Rank | Documented Example | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| One ring | An unnamed successor of the Overturn Heaven lineage 2194 | The lowest stated Epoch Hegemon rank; still beyond the surrounding cultivators’ ability to oppose. |
| Two rings | An Ke of the Eternal Dao Dharma Sect 2130 | Stronger than the newly ascended Yin Mouluo. |
| Three rings | Mo Yi of the Grotto-Heaven Clan 2052 | Presented as more formidable than an ordinary Epoch Hegemon. |
| Four rings | An immortal battle puppet summoned in Daluo Golden City 2131 | Possesses four Overlord Divine Runes and temporary Epoch Hegemon-level power. |
| Eight rings | Eight Gods Daoist 2097 | Identified by eight divine markings on his brow; reputed to possess eight primordial spirits. |
| Nine rings | Taixuan; Immortal Domain Supreme 1923 2038 | Taixuan is known to have nine rings, while the Immortal Domain Supreme is credited with at least nine. |
| Ten rings | Ji Kuang of the Wrath Divine Sect 2296 | Explicitly remains classified as an Epoch Hegemon despite exceeding the earlier stated nine-ring ceiling. |
Adjacent Realms
| Realm | Relationship to Epoch Hegemon |
|---|---|
| Dao Ancestor | Lower realm, separated from Epoch Hegemon by an immense power gap 1243 1773. |
| Half-Step Epoch Hegemon | Not yet a full Epoch Hegemon. Exceptional individuals, such as Heavenly Emperor Gai Shi at her peak, can nevertheless fight genuine hegemons 1368. |
| Half-Step Transcendence | Above Epoch Hegemon; described as the level that truly merits being called undying and indestructible within the Primordial Chaos Universe 2030. |
| Transcendence | Complete escape beyond heaven, earth, and the universe 1728. |
Abilities & Limitations
Survival Across Epochs
- Epoch Hegemons can easily survive an Epoch Calamity rather than perish with their epoch 1728.
- Huntian founded his cult in the Sixth Epoch and states that he has survived at least six tribulations 919.
- Survival is not the same as retaining full cultivation: Ten Seals Daoist survived the Ninth Epoch’s destruction by fleeing into the River of Time, but later sought to regain his lost Epoch Hegemon realm 2033.
Combat Power
- A single Epoch Hegemon is said to be sufficient to suppress the entire Outer Realm 1899.
- Heaven Taixuan killed Demon Lord Nannian, an Indestructible Eighth Realm cultivator, with one palm strike 860.
- An Epoch Hegemon’s presence generally carries a recognizable transcendent, supreme aura. They can conceal it from lower-realm beings, though few do so because the aura signifies their status 2133.
- Ordinary Epoch Hegemons avoid Tribulation Lords; the Grand Emperor’s attempt to kill the Ninth Tribulation Lord is treated as an extraordinary exception 754.
Manifestations and Secondary Bodies
| Method | Capabilities and Limits |
|---|---|
| Will Spirit Transformation | Allows a hegemon to act remotely. Within the Great Void, a hegemon’s will is at least Dao Ancestor-level, but outside it may be restricted to Sage-level combat strength 1064. |
| Second primordial spirit or Dao body | Usually formed using supreme treasures or divine objects. Can retain Dao Ancestor combat strength outside the Great Void under restrictions, but its destruction causes an enormous loss 1064. |
| True-body descent | Brings the complete being rather than a manifestation, but is normally constrained by the Primordial Chaos Tribulation Lord’s restrictions 1064 2001. |
Vulnerability and Restraint
- The Dragon Desolation Battle Flag describes Epoch Hegemons as nearly unkillable except by Half-Step Transcendence beings or the complete collapse of heaven and earth. Other encounters demonstrate that the title does not provide absolute protection 860 1728 2334.
- The Abnormal Human Sovereign associated with the severed giant hand killed three Epoch Hegemons; each killing produced a blood-colored marking on his body 860.
- Epoch Locks, also called Epoch Shackles, can imprison Epoch Hegemons 2032.
- The Decay Tribulation destroys an Epoch Hegemon’s flesh and primordial spirit in the ancient secret realm near Fallen Heaven City 2334.
- Epoch Rings can fragment upon a hegemon’s death. These fragments are treated as precious treasures and can be consumed by the stone egg accompanying Chen Zheng 2096 2131.
Great Void Restrictions
- The Primordial Chaos Tribulation Lord seals the Great Void and confines Epoch Hegemons’ true bodies within it. Forcing a true body outside is said to cause a fall in cultivation 1064.
- The restriction is not an absolute physical impossibility: hegemons can force a descent, but risk attracting both Heavenly Dao scrutiny and the Tribulation Lord’s attention. The latter is their principal fear 1623.
- The Abandoned Nine Heavens permits Evil Heaven to use his restored Epoch Hegemon cultivation without restriction 1699.
- Daluo Golden City also permits Epoch Hegemons to descend in their true bodies 2132.
- A genuine Half-Step Transcendence being is no longer subject to the same prohibition on descending into the Land Beyond the Domain 2030.
History & Changing Status
Early Scarcity
Epoch Hegemons initially form a small elite, largely concentrated among the leaders of the Great Void’s foremost Indestructible Dao Lineages. The Myriad Longevity Divine Ape estimates roughly twenty in the Great Void, while the Heaven-Gazing Beast later estimates fewer than thirty living across heaven and earth, including survivors of eleven destroyed epochs. The latter count explicitly excludes Chen Zheng and the Primordial Chaos Tribulation Lord 1710 1899 2228.
Their scarcity creates a decisive divide between the Great Void and the Outer Realm, which is described at that point as having no genuine Epoch Hegemons. Prospective hegemons and those already approaching the realm are consequently considered candidates for the universe’s hundred strongest living beings 1899.
Pursuit of a Higher Realm
Madam Yan explains that the hegemons seek further advancement before the sleeping Primordial Chaos Tribulation Lord awakens. His anticipated attainment of Half-Step Transcendence would allow him to obliterate them completely 1064.
The Great Samsara Chess Game offers one possible breakthrough opportunity, drawing several hegemons’ Will Spirit Transformations to the Nameless Divine Hall. Their participation does not guarantee success: the golden-masked challenger loses in less than half an incense stick 1710.
Expansion and the Supreme Era
The lifting of restrictions on the current epoch’s beings allows new advancement, exemplified by the ancient Demon Emperor’s reported rise to Epoch Hegemon within a year 2126. Later, leading Great Void experts enter a higher realm, and the number of Epoch Hegemons in their lineages increases sharply 2172 2228.
By the gathering at Undefeated Divine City, dozens of Epoch Hegemons can appear together—roughly as many as the entire Great Void had possessed several months earlier. Half-Step Transcendence, rather than Epoch Hegemon, is now regarded as true supremacy 2240.
Notable Holders
- Grand Emperor — Initially described as a Ninth Epoch hegemon; later revealed to have existed since the First Epoch as the foremost acquired Heaven 754 1458.
- Hong Wangu — Eternal Dao Dharma Sect master and a hegemon among hegemons; his sect is one of the Great Void’s major powers 859.
- Yi Qianhan — Leader associated with Unhindered Slaughter Dao; even Supreme True Demon ordinarily avoids provoking him 859.
- Heaven Taixuan — A terrifying Heaven stronger than Hong Wangu; known to possess nine Epoch Rings before his later advancement 860 1923 2228.
- Immortal Empress of Ultimate Bliss — Cited as an example of a hegemon who uses treasures and divine objects to form secondary primordial spirits or Dao bodies 1064.
- Immortal Domain Supreme — Credited with at least nine Epoch Rings and described as an overlord among Epoch Hegemons 2038.
- Jade Xiao Divine Empress — Identified by Chen Zheng as an Epoch Hegemon during the Land of Stopped Time encounter 1728.
- Abnormal Human Sovereigns — The Abnormal Human Kingdom’s supreme sovereigns and strongest gods of war; their rank corresponds to Epoch Hegemon-level power 860.
Equivalent Power Without the Realm
| Source | Distinction |
|---|---|
| Overlord Divine Runes masks | Can grant Epoch Hegemon-equivalent combat strength to wearers who have not personally attained the realm, including Ling Yan and the lord of Black Emperor Divine City 2023. |
| Huantian Liuli Realm | The Ancestral Dragon Emperor claims the realm makes him an Epoch Hegemon 1987. |
| Ancient divine talisman | Temporarily grants Epoch Hegemon-level power to summoned ancient souls, producing an immortal battle puppet with four Overlord Divine Runes 2131. |
| Chen Zheng’s body and methods | Allow combat far beyond his magical-power realm. He states that Sage-level magical power would let him casually kill hegemons below three rings, while Half-Step Dao Ancestor power would let him casually kill Four-Ring Overlords 2030 2086. |
