Background / History

First Life and Lost Memories

Ji Wuchang was born as the son of Ji Yuan and a woman of the Li Family. He was talented even by the standards of the Ji Family’s main lineage. His father brought Qing Shiwei home during his childhood, and the two grew close. Her ability to glimpse the future repeatedly brought lightning punishment upon her; Ji Wuchang would help heal her injuries 387 1306.

When he asked to marry Qing Shiwei, both she and Ji Yuan refused. Qing Shiwei had foreseen that their relationship would bring disaster upon him. Ji Wuchang left the family and was subsequently ambushed and killed. Qing Shiwei gathered his scattered soul and erased part of his memories so that he could live a second life and recover his Primordial Spirit 1306.

Muye City and the Remembered Previous Life

Ji Ping took Ji Wuchang in at ten after recognizing his promising root bone. Three years later, Ji Wuchang passed the Longevity Sect’s recruitment test. By eighteen, he had spent five years in the sect and become an inner disciple 1 2.

At the opening of the story, Ji Wuchang remembers another disastrous course of events: Xiao Fan defeated him in Muye City’s twenty-year family competition and secretly shattered his meridians. Ji Wuchang’s cultivation eventually stalled at a poor-quality Soul Splitting Realm, while Xiao Fan became the Longevity Sect’s Saint Son and later a renowned Quasi-Saint 1 2.

Returning to the same competition with those memories, Ji Wuchang intends to repay Ji Ping’s household without remaining bound to it. He regards winning twenty years of resources for the family as sufficient repayment for his upbringing. Before leaving Muye City, he receives a jade token bearing a millstone and his name—a clue to his origins that he does not remember obtaining previously 2 14.

Longevity Sect

Under Meng Caihong, Ji Wuchang develops a cultivation path centered on strengthening his flesh, bones, internal organs, meridians, and dantian together. System rewards accelerate his progress, but he repeatedly diverts cultivation into his physical foundation rather than simply pursuing higher realms 16 25 100.

Zhen Miaoqing’s master subjects him to crushing pressure and breaks dozens of his bones while questioning his honesty. Ji Wuchang refuses to expose the secret of his second life. The elder then heals and reconstructs his body, completing his true Golden Skin and Jade Bones 48 49.

He later enters the sect’s ancestral land after driving away its third-tier beast guardian. Although he obtains no inheritance there, he leaves with an Immortal-Binding Rope and a cultivation breakthrough. During a subsequent invasion, he offers to fight for the sect that nurtured him 112 114 164.

Yunchuan Academy and the Heavenly Star Competitions

Ji Wuchang travels beyond Boyun Province, competes in Jiang He City, and joins Yunchuan Academy. The academy’s leaders protect information about his strength because they regard him as a hidden trump card whose emergence could attract hostile attention 168 217 231.

Yu Ling becomes his most demanding sparring partner. Even when fighting at equal cultivation, she repeatedly suppresses him, forcing him to refine techniques that the system has already raised to high mastery. His later Dao Discussion Competition victory earns Yunchuan Academy first place 230 238 472.

Zhou Haotian accepts him as his first disciple, initially because of Yu Ling rather than Ji Wuchang’s own achievements. Ji Wuchang follows him to the Heavenly Star Sect, then enters the Heavenly Star Dynasty’s competitions under the name Zhou Wudi. His victories and killings draw the hostility of numerous families while strengthening his association with Li Xueqin 359 370 388 472 482.

Discovering His Birth Family

Unknown to Ji Wuchang, the Ji Family arranges dangerous assessments to determine whether he deserves to return as its young patriarch. Some elders distrust his maternal Li bloodline because the two families are enemies. In his remembered previous life, Ji Boshang inspected him, found him disappointing, and abandoned the prospect of bringing him back 387 388.

Ji Wuchang first learns substantial information about the powerful Ji Family by interrogating Ji Xiao. His performance gradually wins Ji Boshang’s approval, but learning that the family could have treated his former meridian injuries leaves him deeply resentful. He resolves to return as a powerhouse rather than depend on its acceptance 421 537 576.

While searching for the Heavenly Dragon Mystic Lotus, he encounters further clues to his missing childhood. Chi Qianzhu recognizes him from before the gaps in his memory and promises to help him obtain the lotus. Qing Shiwei eventually restores the erased memories and reveals the circumstances of his original death 630 1306.

Return as Young Master

After cultivating at Jiangshan Academy and Heavenly Chen Academy, Ji Wuchang returns to the Ji Family with Ji Zhiyi. She introduces him to the family’s internal structure and brings him home to meet their daughter, Ji Qinglan 875 1018 1308 1312.

Reaching the ninety-ninth step in the family’s trial secures his claim to the young master’s position. He then demands severe punishment for branches that colluded with outside enemies. The ten ancestors approve the extermination of the branches led by Ji Feng, Ji Tong, and Ji Chengshan, and formally authorize him to represent the patriarch 1312 1313 1314 1315.

Nine Nether Conflict and Later Life

Ji Wuchang proposes the Zhan Clan as the family’s next target, partly to settle Ji Yaoyao’s longstanding enmity. He later personally intervenes when rebellious lineages attempt to bring the Nine Nether Lineage into the Heavenly Chen Imperial Dynasty’s capital. His campaign includes killing three Half-Saints, greatly increasing the family’s admiration for him 1317 1346 1359.

Following the major war, the Ji Family remains the continent’s foremost aristocratic clan. Ji Yuan brings Ji Wuchang’s mother home, and Ji Wuchang travels across the continent with his wives and children, revisiting the sects and academies where he cultivated. After returning, he spends ten years in seclusion and breaks through to Great Emperor 1382.

Personality

Ji Wuchang is calculating and cautious about exposing his identity or resources. He uses disguises, aliases, and expendable puppet clones to misdirect enemies, and he avoids confronting powers he cannot yet overcome. His decision to use Jiang Qiye’s name in Long River Province is specifically intended to prevent the Hou Clan from discovering him 207 291 601.

He is exceptionally ruthless toward enemies and rarely treats surrender as sufficient reason for mercy. He notices that his killing intent has become far stronger since his rebirth, and several battles push him into an increasingly bloodthirsty state. He also routinely collects defeated opponents’ storage rings and weapons 180 298 413 436 437.

His pragmatism does not exclude gratitude. He recognizes the debt he owes Zhen Miaoqing’s master, fights for the Longevity Sect because it nurtured him, and seeks to eliminate the Zhan Clan for Ji Yaoyao’s sake. As a family leader, he accepts internal competition but draws an absolute line at collusion with outside enemies 49 164 1313 1317.

Despite the speed of his advancement, he values actual strength over nominal cultivation. He deliberately restrains realm growth to protect his foundation and recognizes that system-granted mastery cannot replace combat experience. His repeated defeats against Yu Ling fuel determination rather than resignation 100 230 238 344.

His family life reveals a gentler side. He feels guilty for having neglected Ji Qinglan before meeting her, becomes nervous at their first encounter, and later spends substantial time playing with her and making up for his absence from Ji Zhiyi’s life 1308 1312 1314 1318.

  • Fourth step: reaches great perfection after ten years of allocated cultivation 344.
  • Later killing step: has power equal to three times the combined force of all preceding steps; Ji Wuchang estimates it could burst a Celestial Phenomenon Ninth Level opponent’s heart 881.
  • Heaven-Treading Steps: used with soul attacks and the Hundredfold Sublimation Instant Kill Technique to kill Li Chongshan; later raised to grand perfection 474 504.
  • Dharma Aspect destruction: uses Heaven-Treading Steps to smash Liu Feng’s Dharma Aspect 1100.
