Organization and Operations
Leadership and Succession
- Wengu lineage: The Hall’s main bloodline and ruling family. Its members rarely appear publicly and are known for exceptional aptitude 788.
- Three young masters: Three competing candidates are cultivated for the position of Hall Master. Succession depends on their overall performance and eventual strength 791.
- Branch administration: Regional branches have their own hall masters and deputy hall masters 290 292.
- Technique restrictions: A protected divine-soul combat technique requires personal instruction from a protector or higher-ranked member and a Heavenly Dao Oath. The oath prevents outsiders from obtaining its cultivation method through soul-searching 543.
Soul Collection
- Cultivation resource: Members absorb soul power and the spiritual power contained within it. Branches gather remnant souls across the continent to sustain the organization 291.
- Preferred locations: Battlefields in provinces with powerful dynasties and sects provide large quantities of remnant souls 292 600.
- Soul pools: The Heavenly Star Province branch’s pool nurtures more than one hundred million remnant souls and serves as its members’ power source 292.
- Tribute: That branch must supply the main hall with a large batch of Soul Divisions every five years 292.
- Deliberate massacres: When battlefield collection cannot meet its needs, the Hall slaughters settlements. Its methods maximize victims’ pain and terror because souls steeped in fear yield purer divine soul power 290 292.
- Hidden objective: Its continent-wide collection network gathers hundreds of millions of divine souls to prepare the Lord of the Nine Nether’s breakthrough to Quasi-Emperor 1341.

History
Foundation
According to the historical scroll Ji Wuchang reads, Myriad Souls Venerable appeared with the Myriad Souls Banner when the Nine Nether Lineage swept across the Heavenly Chen Continent. He fought its powerhouses and founded the Hall after the lineage retreated north. His origins—and rumors connecting him to the Nine Nether Lineage—could not be verified from the surviving records 1059.
The organization eventually developed a continent-wide branch network. Ji Yaoyao considered it no weaker than the Ji Clan and warned that even her ancestor feared its unknown trump cards 291 325.
Heavenly Star Province Branch
An unidentified expert invaded the Heavenly Star Province branch, wounded its hall master, and destroyed its soul pool. With the five-year tribute deadline approaching, the branch dispatched several hundred members into Lingtai Province and Jiangchuan Province to gather ten million remnant souls through massacres 292.
The fox demon exposed these activities to Ji Wuchang during his academy mission. He subsequently killed a six-member squad and survived its leader’s Soul Mark when his Divine Soul Dao Platform devoured it. Ji Yaoyao destroyed a concealed phantom Primordial Spirit, and Ji Wuchang burned the battlefield before leaving. Other Hall members arrived afterward and mistook Niu Tao for the killer 290 292 293.
Fearing retaliation against Yunchuan Academy, its instructors appealed to Yu Ling. Yu Gang destroyed the branch, killed the members he found outside it, and tore apart a Celestial Phenomenon Realm Eighth Level expert sent afterward. The Hall temporarily stopped sending personnel to Heavenly Star Province 299.
Renewed Pursuit and Resource Contests
| Event | Hall’s Involvement | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Hundred-City Grand Battle | An elder tracks Ji Wuchang through a presence transferred from Jiang Qiye. After Li Xiaoyuan prevents him from acting personally, he sends three assassins 411. | Ji Wuchang escapes their ambush and removes the remnant soul and scented clothing used to track him 411. |
| Thousand-City Battle | Seven members arrive at the Myriad Phenomena Grass gorge. The Heavenly Star Province hall master also seeks to discover how Ji Wuchang learned a restricted Hall technique 541 543. | Ji Wuchang’s use of divine-soul attacks continues to attract the Hall’s attention 554. |
| War against Heavenly Star Sect | Members spread across the battlefields to collect remnant souls 600. | The expanding war provides fresh opportunities for soul harvesting 600. |
| Medicine King Valley secret realm | Six Hall cultivators enter; the survivors later contest a Supreme Weapon saber 677 706. | Ji Wuchang kills two Celestial Phenomenon Realm Third Level members, reducing the party to four 695 697. |
Conquest of Mang Province
For years, the Mang Province branch avoided interfering in disputes between local powers. That restraint ended when Wengu Qingyang arrived with a flying boat and warship and demanded that the Ice and Snow Sect submit. Yin Zhiqing refused to decide without the sect’s absent ancestor 788.
The resulting battle involved more than a thousand Hall fighters, predominantly Dao Severing Realm cultivators, alongside numerous Celestial Phenomenon Realm experts and Supremes. A Supreme Realm Fifth Level expert used the auxiliary banner against the ancestors of the Ice and Snow Sect, Cold Twin Gate, and Thousand Mortals Sect 793 795 796.
The initial expedition collapsed after Wengu Qingyang was captured and the three ancestors became free to attack. Ji Wuchang escaped with the auxiliary banner, while the Hall lost additional Supreme Realm cultivators during its rout 814 815.
Two days later, a Supreme Realm Seventh Layer expert retaliated. He razed Dark Night Gate, Thousand Mortals Sect, and Cold Twin Gate, then killed the three allied ancestors at the Ice and Snow Sect. Some survivors escaped through a teleportation formation. The Hall occupied Mang Province and continued searching for Qingyang and its missing banner 815.
Infiltration and Forced Submission
The Hall repeatedly attempted to absorb Tranquil Heart Tower. After its offers were rejected, it destroyed branches and induced defections, forcing the Tower to relocate its headquarters to Illusory Sea City 1124.
In Green Sword Prefecture, Hall fighters supported Hidden Sword Gate for decades, causing repeated defeats and heavy losses for Green Mountain Sect. Yang Jiyang later revealed that his group had joined the Hall, Shen Tinglan had struck a deal with it, and Green Mountain Sect’s second and fourth elders had leaked information 1177 1193.
Inside the secret realm, Hall members attacked Green Mountain Sect disciples. They subsequently cooperated with Hidden Sword Gate to extort supreme-grade spirit weapons from departing cultivators, killing two who resisted 1195 1219.
The Hall also penetrated the Ji Family’s affairs. A spirit attempting to possess Ji Wuchang claimed that Ji Feng, Ji Tong, and Ji Chengshan had secretly contacted it. After the scheme failed, Ji Yuan captured, soul-searched, and destroyed a Supreme Realm Ninth Level Hall elder. Further investigations exposed Hall infiltrators within the Ji Family and Heavenly Chen Imperial Dynasty 1303 1305 1317.
Open War and Loss of the Main Banner
The Hall’s true connection to the Nine Nether Lineage was eventually revealed: its master was the Lord of the Nine Nether’s avatar, and its branch network served his cultivation plans. The two organizations openly joined forces, while the Nine Nether Lineage occupied Long River Province, White Ape Province, and Azure Sea Province and harvested cultivators’ souls 1341 1342.
The Hall Master wounded Chu Tianheng but could not breach Heavenly Chen Academy’s defenses, which were protected by the Heavenly Chen Cauldron. Chu Tianheng urged the major factions to unite, suspecting that the soul harvesting might be intended to produce a Great Emperor 1344.
Ji Wuchang later used the auxiliary banner to lure out the Hall Master. He trapped the main banner inside the Heaven-Devouring Jar and destroyed one of two apparently genuine Hall Master bodies. The surviving figure escaped into the void, leaving the main banner suppressed 1356 1357.
Branch Destruction and the Capital Siege
The Hall’s branches were subsequently uprooted. Many were already deserted; those still defended were destroyed, while the Hall Master remained absent 1362.
Despite these losses, a large Hall force besieged the Heavenly Chen Imperial Dynasty’s capital with four Half-Saint experts. Ji Wuchang returned as a peak Saint King and turned the captured Myriad Souls Banner against them. He killed the four Half-Saints and at least 200,000 members, then left the surviving attackers to the Ji Family’s forces 1373.
Abilities and Techniques
Divine-Soul Cultivation and Attacks
The Hall’s principal combat specialty is attacking the divine soul directly 292 695.
- Divine Soul Spike: Condenses soul power into piercing attacks aimed between the target’s brows. A Supreme Realm Fifth Level member releases two hundred spikes to injure three Supreme ancestors 411 801.
- Soul Annihilation Technique: Another Hall-derived technique learned by Ji Wuchang 934.
- Soul-sound attacks: A manifested Primordial Spirit releases sound waves capable of injuring or shattering an opponent’s divine soul 292.
- Primordial Spirit consumption: Some members cultivate by devouring Primordial Spirits 791.
Soul Mark
A possession and survival art that embeds a preserved wisp of the user’s Primordial Spirit inside another cultivator’s sea of consciousness 293.
- Costs ninety percent of the user’s divine soul power 293.
- Feeds on the host’s divine soul, strengthening the preserved spirit until it can replace the host 293.
- Cannot safely target someone whose cultivation is substantially higher than the user’s 293.
- Can be countered by diverting it into a Spirit Weapon concealed within the Primordial Spirit and detonating that weapon 293.
- Fails against Ji Wuchang when his Divine Soul Dao Platform devours it 293.
Concealment, Disguise, and Tracking
- Disguise: Ji Yaoyao identifies members’ ability to disguise themselves as a major danger 291.
- Concealment: Members approach Ji Wuchang without warning and later evade his detection in the mist surrounding the Myriad Phenomena Grass gorge 411 541.
- Retaliation marker: Killing Hall members leaves a distinctive red glow that its members can recognize for an entire year 411.
- Transferred presence: An elder places a wisp of his presence on Jiang Qiye so that it transfers to Ji Wuchang during combat 411.
- Tracking traces: Pursuers also use a faint remnant soul and fragrance; Ji Wuchang breaks their tracking by destroying the soul and burning his clothing 411.
Soul-Disordering Great Method
A seven-level technique created by the former Hall member Soul-Chaos Supreme 934.
- Seeks to transform six illusory Soul Division avatars into Primordial Spirits, leaving seven Primordial Spirits competing for one body 934.
- Its creator goes berserk, kills numerous Hall experts, and eventually dies after fighting six opponents of the same realm 934.
- The Hall seeks the technique, but the context does not establish it as standard instruction for members 934.
Hall Master’s Specialized Methods
- Ten Thousand Souls Draw the Thread, Return to Nine Nether: Establishes a soul-draining connection that bypasses Ji Wuchang’s spatial defenses. The Nine Nether Tower stops and reverses the drain, forcing the Hall Master to sever the connection 1357.
- Multiple bodies: Produces two figures that both appear physically genuine to the Thousand Illusion Spirit Pupil. Destroying one injures the other, but their exact nature remains unresolved 1357.
- Dispersal escape: Scatters into countless figures to evade pursuit 1357.
Equipment and Items
- Myriad Souls Banner Main Banner — The Hall’s guarding treasure. Initially described as a Saint Weapon, it is later revealed to be an Ultimate Dao Emperor Weapon missing three auxiliary banners. Its incomplete state allows the restored Heaven-Devouring Jar to suppress it 791 1356.
- Myriad Souls Banner Auxiliary Banner — Wengu Qingyang’s Supreme Weapon, ritually consecrated by a Supreme Realm Ninth Level expert. It imprisons cultivators, deploys remnant-soul formations, and refines captives. Ji Wuchang captures it, erases the Hall’s traces, and discovers it can grow by devouring other Supreme Weapons 791 796 815 825.
- Soul-Hooking Chains — Signature black iron chains refined with remnant souls. They seize Primordial Spirits and prevent a victim’s soul from escaping after the head is pierced 522 1292.
- Hall Master’s iron chain — A higher-grade chain carrying the pressure of a Quasi-Saint Weapon 1356.
- Resentful Soul Banner — Wengu Longping’s banner, containing countless bound wronged souls 1039.
- Communication jade tokens — Crushing one alerts Hall members within several hundred li 293.
Relationships
- Nine Nether Lineage — Secretly connected through the Hall Master’s identity and the Lord of the Nine Nether’s soul-gathering arrangements; later an open military ally 1341 1342.
- Ji Wuchang — Persistent enemy who survives its possession techniques, kills its members, and captures both an auxiliary banner and the main banner. His use of its weapons and techniques sometimes causes outsiders to mistake him for a member 293 960 1124 1357.
- Ji Family — Target of infiltration and possession schemes; retaliates after exposing Hall agents and later destroys its capital-siege forces 1305 1317 1373.
- Yu Ling and the Yu Clan — Yu Gang destroys the Heavenly Star Province branch after Yu Ling agrees to resolve the threat to Yunchuan Academy. In Ji Wuchang’s previous life, a Hall Supreme unsuccessfully attempts to assassinate Yu Ling and is killed by her 290 299.
- Tranquil Heart Tower — Resists repeated absorption attempts and loses branches and personnel to the Hall’s pressure 1124.
- Hidden Sword Gate — Regional ally against Green Mountain Sect; cooperates with the Hall in competitions and secret-realm extortion 1177 1219.
- Zhan Clan — Has documented dealings with Wengu Shaohua, but Ji Wuchang’s later warning of a broader alliance remains a suspicion at that stage 828 1317.
- Heavenly Chen Academy — Opposes the Hall’s continental offensive; its Heavenly Chen Cauldron prevents the Hall Master from breaching its defenses 1344.
