Background / History

Konoha was founded sixty-two years before Izayoi's succession as Sixth Hokage, after Hashirama Senju used Wood Release to pacify the Warring States Period. Its creation established the One Country, One Village system later copied throughout the shinobi world. 181

By the time of the Uchiha Clan Massacre, Konoha had already lost the Fourth Hokage, his wife, and numerous powerful shinobi during the Nine-Tails' Rampage. The destruction of its foremost noble clan left the village in one of its weakest periods since its founding. 15

The Konoha Crush Plan brought another severe crisis: Sand, Sound, and Root forces invaded the village, while the Hokage Building and Hidden Leaf Square became major battlefields. Konoha repelled the invasion, but Hiruzen Sarutobi died sealing Orochimaru's hands and the souls of the First and Second Hokage. 85 Root was also effectively destroyed, and the village faced heavy casualties, damaged infrastructure, and a collapse in morale. 86

Tsunade's inauguration as Fifth Hokage restored public confidence and allowed the mission system to resume operations. 92 Izayoi's emergence as a Wood Release user then became a major strategic deterrent: his power revived morale, reassured civilians, and discouraged rival villages from treating Konoha as weak. 98

Izayoi succeeded Tsunade as Sixth Hokage in Konoha Year 62. His accession returned Konoha's military leadership to a Wood Release user and placed the strongest of the Five Great Shinobi Villages at its head. 181

Following the final conflict, Konoha became the undisputed leading power of the shinobi world under Izayoi, who was hailed by its ninja as the God of Shinobi. 207

• Perception Barrier — A transparent dome surrounds Konoha above and below ground. Contact with its walls reveals an intruder's chakra and location to the Sensor Team. 43

Hokage Administration

Tsunade served as Fifth Hokage after the deaths of Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzō Shimura. Her succession ended the leadership vacuum following the Konoha Crush Plan. 86 92

Izayoi became Sixth Hokage in Konoha Year 62. He treated the Hokage primarily as Konoha's guardian and strongest military force, delegating routine governance rather than personally managing all village affairs. 181

• Hinata Hyuga and Karin — Izayoi's principal secretaries, entrusted with official matters and the issuance of Hokage orders. 181 211

Later Development

Konoha's postwar expansion was fueled by outsiders seeking Izayoi's favor and investing in the village. It developed beyond its original boundaries into a major urban center. 211

By Konoha Year 79, the settlement had become the Shinobi World's most prosperous technological city, with a population of hundreds of thousands. It was widely called the City of Dreams and the City of Gods. 221

Although the God Tree's absorption of planetary energy caused recurring disasters across other regions, Konoha remained the central power coordinating technological growth and the broader transformation of the shinobi world. 220 221
