Background / History

Recruiting Lin Xing

While accompanying Ning Rongrong on a Soul Ring hunt in Star Dou Great Forest, Chen Xin senses Lin Xing’s unusual Soul Power and decides to test him. He kills two battling Soul Beasts with a silver-blue sword gleam, intercepts Lin Xing, and catches the Splendor of Tranquil Waters barehanded. Initially mistaking the sword and Lin Xing’s three companions for Twin Martial Souls, he becomes interested in the boy’s unconventional abilities 5 6.

Lin Xing claims that his Martial Soul cannot receive Soul Rings despite his having cultivated to level forty. Rather than dismissing him, Chen Xin offers to make him his first disciple. When Lin Xing collapses after leaving his transformed state, Chen Xin carries him back to camp and discovers that the boy’s body absorbs his powerful Soul Power without becoming filled 6.

Training in Star Dou Great Forest

Chen Xin begins with practical sparring, keeping Lin Xing under sustained pressure while adjusting his attacks to develop the boy’s combat instincts. He later introduces Intent as a suitable path for his disciple and projects his own Sword Intent for Lin Xing to study 8 9 13.

For Ning Rongrong’s second Soul Ring hunt, he selects and marks a Scaled Beast more than six hundred years old, leaving Lin Xing to handle the fight. Recognizing his disciple’s attempt to comprehend Intent through barehanded combat, Chen Xin surrounds the battlefield with a controlled Sword Intent field. Lin Xing subsequently awakens Intent and creates the Clear Abyss of the Azure Stream domain, allowing Ning Rongrong to kill the subdued beast and absorb its ring 14 15.

Their next spar escalates when Lin Xing combines two domains, temporarily deprives Chen Xin of his sixth Soul Ring, and launches Judgment and Ruling. Chen Xin answers with his Seven Kill Avatar and tears open the domain’s internal space. He remains guarded afterward until Lin Xing dismisses a concealed sword of Intent 16 17 18.

Return to the Sect

After returning to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Chen Xin introduces Lin Xing to Ning Fengzhi and Gu Rong. He wagers that Gu Rong cannot remain uninjured for ten minutes against his disciple while restricted to rank seventy and forbidden from using his Martial Soul Avatar. Lin Xing wounds Gu Rong’s palm, giving Chen Xin ample opportunity to mock his old friend 20 21 22.

Ning Fengzhi arranges for Lin Xing to occupy Chen Xin’s spare room. Gu Rong and Ning Fengzhi recognize that the disciple Chen Xin has brought back could eventually strengthen the sect enough to challenge its subordinate standing to the Clear Sky Sect 23.

New Technique and Breakthrough Prospects

Chen Xin deliberately provokes Gu Rong into another duel to test a technique inspired by Lin Xing. His newly developed Seven Kill Domain gives him a decisive advantage over Gu Rong’s full-strength defense. He later announces that he has touched the threshold of Level 97, although the breakthrough still requires further accumulation 25 27.

Before leaving to gain experience, Lin Xing engraves the complete Clear Abyss of the Azure Stream onto Ning Rongrong’s Martial Soul and asks Chen Xin to teach her its use. Chen Xin immediately takes responsibility for helping her become familiar with it 28.

Personality

Chen Xin is an attentive but demanding teacher. He regulates sparring pressure so Lin Xing can improve without being immediately defeated, uses spiritual power to ease his disciple’s mental strain, and willingly serves as a test subject for new techniques. He openly praises talent and does not reject Lin Xing merely because of his claimed inability to obtain Soul Rings 6 9 13.

His stern bearing softens dramatically around Ning Rongrong. He readily indulges her requests to play, carries her affectionately, and becomes visibly disappointed when she chooses Furina’s company over his. Her wheedling can persuade him to postpone their return to the sect 6 10 16.

With Gu Rong, Chen Xin is competitive, mischievous, and fond of elaborate setups. He engineers opportunities to embarrass his friend, trades childish insults with him, and conceals new techniques until he can spring them during a duel. His taste for theatrical swordsmanship also includes reciting poetry before a major attack, drawing repeated teasing from Lin Xing 21 22 25 26.

Seven Kill Sword

Chen Xin’s tool-type Martial Soul is the basis of his swordsmanship and his reputation for the continent’s greatest offensive power. He describes it as possessing the greatest killing power of any Martial Soul, while noting that its inheritance is rare and its strength depends heavily on its wielder’s innate talent 11 18.
