Background / History

Previous Life and the Snow Empress

Yang Xingchen recovers his previous-life memories a few months before his Martial Soul awakening, on the day he learns of his biological father’s death. Familiar with Tang San’s future opportunities, he initially tries to befriend him in hopes of benefiting from the immortal herbs, but Tang San rejects his overtures 1.

After Su Yuntao favors Tang San’s innate full Soul Power over his rank-six talent, Village Chief Jack asks Yang Xingchen to withdraw from the work-study quota competition. Yang Xingchen goes fishing to relieve his frustration and hooks the God Sealing Platform containing the Snow Empress. She emerges from the sphere and subsequently appears in his Spiritual Sea, where he correctly deduces that she depends on him to survive 1.

Their coexistence gives him a second Martial Soul but also a deadline: her power and the snow lotus’s medicinal power are divided into seven seals, each lasting three years. His body must become strong enough to withstand their release 2.

First Soul Ring and Conflict with Tang San

Under the Snow Empress’s guidance, Yang Xingchen sneaks into the Soul Hunting Forest and fishes up Cangyuan. The Soul Spirit provides his first ring and becomes a means of sharing the pressure from the Snow Empress’s released power 2 3.

He later encounters Tang San and the poisoned Yu Xiaogang. After Tang San attacks him with a dagger, Yang Xingchen tests his attribute-extraction skill, defeats him, and challenges Yu Xiaogang’s emphasis on toughness and poison for Blue Silver Grass. He takes Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges as “tuition,” but refrains from killing Tang San because he fears retaliation from Tang Hao 4 5.

Far North and the Ten-Year Pact

After a ten-month journey, Yang Xingchen reaches the Far North and occupies the Ice Spirit Cold Spring. There, he defeats a starving Ice Grudge Snow Fiend, obtains the Frost Nightmare Ice Mask, and undergoes body tempering before absorbing his second ring 5 6 7 8 9.

Xiao Bai subsequently brings him and the future Snow Empress to meet the Snow Empress of the current timeline. The two Snow Empresses agree to a contest in ten years to determine which will lead their proposed devouring, without drawing on the Far North’s Heaven and Earth Yuan Power. Yang Xingchen confidently accepts the pact and identifies the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well as their best route to sufficient strength 10 11.

He and Xiao Bai form the Treasure Hunting Squad and spend years searching the Far North’s outskirts. Their finds include an Ice Crystal Orchid for Xiao Bai and thousand-year ice marrow for his body tempering. After Xiao Bai survives her two-hundred-thousand-year lightning tribulation, he departs for Sunset Forest 12.

Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

Yang Xingchen enters the well through a temporary opening the Snow Empress cuts into Dugu Bo’s poison formation. After a confrontation with Dugu Bo loosens her third seal, he consumes the two opposing immortal herbs and plunges into the spring to survive the release 13 14.

The Ice and Fire Dragon Kings draw his consciousness into their hidden space and identify the time-and-space origins within his Martial Soul. They help transform his body and give him their arm Soul Bones, hoping that his eventual attainment of divine power will offer them a way out of their confinement 15 16 17 18.

After emerging, Yang Xingchen offers Dugu Bo a cure and stronger poison arts in exchange for the treasure land. He teaches the Poison Core Method and helps suppress Dugu Bo’s toxins during its cultivation. Dugu Bo reaches level ninety-four, loses their rematch, and leaves Yang Xingchen with an improved protective formation and a promise of assistance 20 21 22 23.

Electrolux and the Undead Demiplane

Yang Xingchen fishes up a fragment of Electrolux’s divine consciousness and negotiates permission for him to reside in his Spiritual Sea. He becomes Electrolux’s disciple, promising to help locate the remaining fragments in exchange for instruction in Necromancy 24 25.

After tempering his spiritual power and learning Necromancy, Yang Xingchen inherits the Undead Demiplane. He then demonstrates its restorative undead power to the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings. They confirm that it can help their souls, but explain that leaving their prison requires him to take the entire Ice and Fire Space with them 26 27 28.

Appearance

• Ordinary appearance: Has short hair before activating Heavenly Snow Woman 7.
• Heavenly Snow Woman transformation: His hair becomes snow-white and waist-length, his eyes turn ice blue, and his expression becomes cold 7.
• Frost Nightmare Ice Mask: A forehead crystal spreads into a thin, translucent mask covering his upper face, with spectral-blue cracks around the eyes 8.
• Ice-and-fire body: Red-and-blue Soul Power envelops him, with ice and fire symbols on the backs of his hands 17.

Personality

Yang Xingchen combines adult calculation with childish excitement. The Snow Empress explicitly notices that he can be more mature and calculating than an adult one moment, then naïve and foolish the next. Fishing is both his favorite pastime and his established way of relieving distress 1 3.

He is thick-skinned, provocative, and quick to bargain. He talks back to the Snow Empress despite knowing her strength, charges Electrolux “rent” for his Spiritual Sea, and deliberately teases the Snow Empress to draw out her emotions and build a bond 1 2 24.

His opportunism is tempered by practical caution. He seeks Xiao Bai’s protection, takes Tang San’s storage tool after defeating him, and avoids killing Tang San because of Tang Hao. He also recognizes that personal connections can solve problems that fighting alone cannot 5 12 20.

Cangyuan calling him “Dad” gives him a stronger sense of responsibility: he says he wants to show the child beautiful things. His irreverence nevertheless persists after learning Necromancy, which he uses for games and to have skeletons feed, fan, and massage him 21 27.

Space-Time Fishing Rod

His original Martial Soul carries the origin powers of the Time and Space Dragon Kings rather than merely possessing an ordinary fishing rod’s properties 15 16.
