Background / History

Rule of the Far North

The Snow Empress was born as an incarnation of ice elemental power and commanded Ultimate Ice. Before adopting Xiao Bai, she lived in a small, person-height snow hut despite already having reached the Ferocious Beast level. She later built an ice palace large enough to accommodate Xiao Bai’s growing body 2 11.

During her seclusion to cross the five-hundred-thousand-year bottleneck, a hundred-thousand-year Ice Grudge Snow Fiend led its species in invasions of other Soul Beast populations and human territories. After emerging, she personally led the defeated populations in a campaign lasting more than a thousand years, exterminating most of the fiends. She continued to eliminate isolated survivors whenever they appeared 7.

Capture and Displacement Through Time

A human sneak attack left her imprisoned in the God Sealing Platform. Yang Xingchen’s fishing rod pulled the sealed platform out of the river of time, bringing her ten thousand years into the past. She escaped the container but lost her physical body, taking refuge in his Spiritual Sea 1 2 10.

During the crossing, the platform’s time-and-space attributes exposed her to pure spacetime elemental power. She gained some understanding and command of those attributes, along with knowledge outside her own era. She could not freely disclose that knowledge, fearing that interference with history would allow spacetime to discover her 2 3.

Using the platform’s remaining power, she sealed herself and the Hundred-Thousand-Year Snow Lotus’s medicinal energy inside Yang Xingchen. Their survival became interdependent: he needed to strengthen his body enough to withstand her seals, while she needed him as a vessel 1 2.

Preparing to Devour Her Other Self

Once she discovered that her former cultivation restrictions had vanished, she began planning to devour the Snow Empress native to the current timeline. She expected this to restore her physical body and help her reach a million years of cultivation without another lightning tribulation 2 3 6.

She guided Yang Xingchen to obtain the Space-Time Soul Spirit Cangyuan, who could share the pressure of her released power. After traveling to the Far North, she used the Ice Spirit Cold Spring to temper Yang Xingchen’s body and prepare him for further seals 3 5 8.

An unexpected meeting with Xiao Bai brought them before her earlier self, subsequently distinguished as Xiao Bai’s mom. Rather than conceal her intentions, the future Snow Empress openly proposed devouring her. The two agreed to fight in ten years without drawing on the Far North’s Heaven and Earth Yuan Power; the winner would lead the devouring and become the dominant self 10 11.

She then helped locate treasures for Yang Xingchen and Xiao Bai. Both versions of the Snow Empress assisted Xiao Bai in surviving the two-hundred-thousand-year lightning tribulation. With half the pact’s time already gone, she accompanied Yang Xingchen to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well to seek stronger body-tempering resources 12.

The Ice God Opportunity

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, the Snow Empress temporarily possessed Yang Xingchen to defeat Dugu Bo. The strain loosened her third seal, forcing an early release while Yang Xingchen underwent ice-and-fire body tempering 14.

The Ice Dragon King later taught her how to recall the missing Ice God Divine Seat and proposed that she become its next inheritor after devouring her other self. He explained that her Soul Spirit state allowed a loophole in the prohibition against Soul Beasts becoming gods. Carrying out the plan would require her to reach a million years of cultivation or Yang Xingchen to acquire divine power; she had not yet inherited the seat 17 18.

Appearance

• Usual form: A white-clad woman with pure-white hair reaching her feet and sky-blue eyes 1.
• Distinguishing features: Slender hands and crimson lips 3.
• Miniature form: Condenses a doll-sized humanoid body while suppressing her presence in the Far North to avoid detection by her earlier self. She can return to her usual size 6 8.

Personality

Initially proud, imperious, and openly distrustful of humans, the Snow Empress repeatedly refers to herself as “this empress.” Her recent capture reinforces her hostility, and she reacts angrily when Yang Xingchen treats her like a tool or refuses to respect her status 1 3.

Their companionship gradually makes her more expressive and mischievous. She retaliates against his teasing with hailstones, slips ice down his back, and develops a strong fondness for candied hawthorns. Her growing range of emotions is pronounced enough that Xiao Bai initially doubts her identity 2 3 5 6 10.

She is a demanding but attentive teacher. Although she insists on exhausting body-tempering sessions, she monitors Yang Xingchen’s limits and only lets him fight the Ice Grudge Snow Fiend alone after judging its weakened condition manageable 7 8.

Her attitude toward humans softens without disappearing entirely. She voluntarily helps save Dugu Bo because Yang Xingchen wants to show Cangyuan the good in the world. She also values practicality over luxury: her enormous palace exists to accommodate Xiao Bai, not to display wealth 11 22.

Ultimate Ice and Elemental Control

As a Heavenly Snow Woman, she commands Ultimate Ice and can manipulate ice-attribute Heaven and Earth Yuan Power 2 8.

• Creates hailstones, ice bridges, freezing breath, and ice-crystal weapons even while much of her power is sealed 2 3 13.
• Protects Yang Xingchen from the Far North’s lethal cold and uses environmental energy to locate cultivation opportunities 6 12.

Seven-Layer Origin Seal

Her origin power and the Hundred-Thousand-Year Snow Lotus’s medicinal power are stored inside Yang Xingchen in seven layers 2.

• Each layer lasts three years before automatically breaking 2.
• She can deliberately release layers earlier, restoring access to more of her power 3 9 14.
• Energy that Yang Xingchen can withstand becomes available for him to wield and absorb; failure would destroy his body and Martial Soul 2.

Heavenly Snow Woman Martial Soul

She sacrifices part of her origin to create Yang Xingchen’s second Martial Soul, giving him a compatible vessel for her power 2.

Emperor Mirror: Thousand Illusions Without a Trace

A technique she continues refining within Yang Xingchen’s Spiritual Sea and later teaches him in perfected form 26 27.
