Laboratory childhood

Lin Shuo’s parents were researchers studying Ether and Ethereals. When volunteers became insufficient, they used their own son as an experimental subject. By childhood, he understood that their apparent affection depended on his value to their research 9 19.

The experiments gave him heightened senses and controlled Half-Ethereal Transformation. They also exposed him to the disappearance of other subjects and left him deeply uncomfortable with enjoying the power his altered body provided 19.

He planned an escape for his friend Qian An using laboratory records and a damaged ventilation duct. After ensuring Qian An escaped, he returned to cover the retreat and killed Yuejian before she completely lost herself to Ethereal transformation 20.

As punishment, his father ordered a full, potentially lethal dose of the Type P-07 Sacrifice Potion. The system activated and granted Lin Shuo the Three-Tomoe Sharingan, allowing him to reverse the transformation. It then issued an eight-year quest to escape and gather evidence of his parents’ crimes 20.

His actions are warmer than his speech. Although he initially treats Lin You’s arrival as a disaster, he immediately provides a bath, clothes, food, and a place to stay. He later explicitly reassures her that she is his daughter and that his home belongs to her 1 12.

His laboratory upbringing and military experiences encourage secrecy and self-reliance. He conceals his system and transmigrator identity even from Lin You, and frequently tries to face danger without involving those closest to him 7 11.

He nevertheless becomes increasingly willing to accept affection and share responsibility. He rejects using future information as a script for his relationship with Yuzuha, insisting that his choices must have meaning of their own 1 27.

Conflict with Qian An
