Background / History

Experiments and adoption

Yuzuha was the sole survivor of the ES-07 experiments. Li Baorong found her washed ashore, soaked and unable to remember her identity. He adopted her, gave her a name and a home, and enabled her to attend school. His household included five adopted children, all of whom had been abandoned or hurt 8 9.

For a long time, the sea triggered nightmares of sinking into dark water without being able to surface. Li Baorong repeatedly took her to the beach until her fear eased. She eventually came to love the sea, associating it with meeting her adoptive family and the people who became important to her 9.

Kaidan House and Spook Shack

Yuzuha helps operate Kaidan House’s gray-porcelain business, handling online orders, arranging merchandise, and assisting with pottery activities. She joined Spook Shack partly to become useful to Li Baorong and protect the home he had given her, despite his concerns about the group’s dangerous work 4 8 24.

Before Lin You’s arrival, she was already a regular at Lin Shuo’s ramen stall, visiting every Wednesday evening to “replenish her inspiration.” She frequently invented urban legends and tried to recruit him for Hollow investigations 1 2.

Appearance

Yuzuha has long red hair, green eyes, and a youthful face. Lin You strongly resembles her, sharing her coloring and characteristic mischievous smile 1 2 13.

Yuzuha is playful, sly, and persistent. She enjoys pranks, strange stories, and making Lin Shuo lose his composure. Akame helps her frighten customers by moving ornaments or pretending to be a plush toy, while her teasing of Lin Shuo often doubles as a way to question him without an outright confrontation 1 12 31.

Her curiosity is tempered by respect for personal boundaries. After noticing that Lin Shuo’s abilities were unusual, she investigated his military background but told him she would not force him to explain his secrets. She judged him by his kindness toward others rather than his history of killing 8.

Yuzuha’s willingness to enter dangerous Hollows comes from a concrete desire to protect Li Baorong, Spook Shack, and her neighbors. She is independent and prone to shouldering responsibilities herself, a habit her adoptive father recognizes 4 8.

In romance, she alternates between bold teasing and visible embarrassment. Although she trusts Lin Shuo, Lin Yue’s arrival exposes her fear of being left behind for someone who shares his military life. She openly acknowledges her jealousy rather than withdrawing, and later welcomes Lin Yue despite her lingering hurt 12 18 24.
