Personal and Departmental Rivalries

In her youth, Xian Lin'er and Cai Mei'er were known as Shrek Academy's twin beauties, evenly matched in appearance, Martial Souls, and talent. Xian Lin'er's mother, the senior Sea God Pavilion elder Song Yunzhi, gave her an additional advantage in their longstanding rivalry 18.

Xian Lin'er previously had a relationship with Yan Shaozhe, which ended after his infidelity. She later married Qian Duoduo to retaliate against Yan Shaozhe, but did not accept him as a genuine romantic partner 18.

As Soul Tool Department dean, she struggled against the Martial Soul Department's dominance in recruiting promising students and securing cultivation resources. This imbalance, together with her lack of a devoted disciple, drove her determination to recruit Xue Chen 15 16.

Recruiting Xue Chen

Xian Lin'er met Xue Chen at Shrek Academy's entrance when Ling Luochen brought him for an assessment of his unusual Martial Soul. She escorted them to her office and confirmed his Ultimate Ice attribute after witnessing its suppression of Ling Luochen's Ice Element Martial Soul 13 14 15.

She offered Xue Chen the Soul Tool Department's full support if he became her disciple. When he requested time to consider, she insisted that he remain in her office and sent Ling Luochen back to the Inner Court. She also recognized that his Ultimate Ice could give her leverage over Yan Shaozhe, whose disciple Ma Xiaotao needed help suppressing her Evil Fire 15 16.

When Cai Mei'er arrived, Xian Lin'er concealed Xue Chen inside her Storage Soul Tool. At the subsequent Sea God Pavilion meeting, she falsely claimed that he had already accepted her as his master, then reluctantly brought him out for the elders to examine 18 19 20.

The discovery of his Five Elements Qilin and Dragon Slaying Saber intensified the recruitment dispute. Mu En ultimately appointed both Xian Lin'er and Yan Shaozhe as his teachers rather than assigning him exclusively to either department 20 21 22.

Taking Charge of His Education

After Xue Chen's demonstration against Class Nine, he voluntarily addressed Xian Lin'er as “Teacher,” which she regarded as his full acceptance of their relationship 40.

She subsequently secured primary responsibility for his education through an agreement with Yan Shaozhe: she would not obstruct Xue Chen from regularly helping Ma Xiaotao suppress her Evil Fire. She also planned a trip to Star Dou Great Forest to obtain his next Soul Ring and discussed his preference for pure, single-attribute Soul Beasts 41.

Whale Rubber Incident

Xue Chen asked Xian Lin'er to refine exceptionally powerful whale rubber, claiming that he had discovered it alongside an external Soul Bone in the Far North. She believed his account and judged that his constitution, Soul Bone, and Ultimate Ice should allow him to withstand it 41.

The refined whale rubber instead overwhelmed him, causing unconsciousness and uncontrolled behavior. Xian Lin'er restrained him with Soul Power and realized that the excess energy threatened his life. Afterward, she questioned him about the incident, but he remembered nothing; she was left embarrassed and angry 42 43.

Xian Lin'er has a forceful temperament well known throughout Shrek Academy. Protective of her department's interests, she is willing to pressure others and make misleading claims to secure an exceptional disciple. Her insistence that Xue Chen stay with her, despite his hesitation, prompts Ling Luochen to accuse her of forcing the apprenticeship 15 16 17 19.

Her warmth toward Xue Chen contrasts with her stern treatment of rivals and subordinates. She serves him water, promises protection from bullying, and takes visible pleasure in his acknowledgment of her as his teacher. Her early enthusiasm is also intrusive, leaving him uncomfortable during her examination and recruitment attempts 14 16 17 40.

Old romantic grievances strongly affect her judgment. She hopes to make Yan Shaozhe dependent on her cooperation, reacts sharply to Cai Mei'er's provocations, and resents Qian Duoduo's failure to support her during their confrontations 16 18 20.
