History
Supporting the Village’s Young Talents
Old Jack adopted the orphan Luo Li and raised him in Holy Soul Village. After Luo Li and Tang San awakened martial souls with innate full soul power, Jack was initially disappointed by their seemingly poor martial souls. Learning that each needed only one soul ring to become a Soul Master restored his enthusiasm. He hoped they might eventually become the village’s second Soul Saint 1 5.
When Tang San deferred to Tang Hao about becoming a Soul Master, Jack accompanied him home. Tang Hao refused permission, prompting Jack to berate him for obstructing his child’s future 1.
Transformation and Confrontation with Tang Hao
Luo Li later brought the transformed Tang San to Jack’s home and explained the Catgirl Facial Cleanser. Envious of Tang San’s smooth skin, Jack tried it himself, becoming a white-haired catgirl. Delighted by the disappearance of his wrinkles, Jack began being referred to as “Auntie Old Jack” 5.
Jack’s delight gave way to anger over Tang San’s treatment at home. She stormed into Tang Hao’s smithy, smashed his wine jar, and scolded him for more than an hour. Her accusations included excessive drinking, neglecting blacksmith work, relying on Tang San’s care, and denying the child a future as a Soul Master 5.
Jack then helped Luo Li transform Tang Hao. While Tang San heated water, Jack knocked Tang Hao off his chair, applied the cleanser, scrubbed his face with her foot, and rinsed him with cold well water. She agreed to the treatment for Tang San’s sake and demanded that Tang Hao become a better parent 6.
When the transformed Tang Hao resumed drinking, Jack kicked her out of the courtyard into the rain. Her renewed accusations forced Tang Hao to confront her failures toward Tang San and Ah Yin. Tang Hao subsequently resolved to stay alive and support her child’s cultivation 6.
Yu Xiaogang’s Visit
Jack enthusiastically brought Yu Xiaogang to meet Luo Li and Tang San, introducing him as a famous Spirit Grandmaster sent by Spirit Hall. She regarded his initial arrogance as normal for someone of his standing and interpreted his later gentleness as genuine concern for Tang San 8 10.
When Yu Xiaogang asked about Tang San’s father, Jack nearly revealed that the catgirl beside them was Tang Hao. Tang Hao stopped her by covering her mouth 10.
After Tang Hao sent Yu Xiaogang flying out of the smithy, Jack was initially shocked that she had attacked a distinguished Soul Master. Realizing Tang Hao might be a hidden expert, however, Jack became pleased that Tang San had a powerful parent to protect her 12.
Appearance
- Before transformation: An elderly, white-haired man who used a cane and had a hunched back and bent waist 5.
- After transformation: A white-haired catgirl with cat ears, a long tail, smooth skin, and a full figure. Her face appeared to belong to a woman in her twenties 5.
- Remaining signs of age: Her stooped posture, reliance on a cane, and weathered female voice persisted. Tang San recognized that Jack remained elderly despite her youthful-looking skin 5.
Personality
Jack is deeply invested in the village children’s prospects, viewing Soul Master status as both a better future for them and a source of pride for Holy Soul Village. Her protection of Tang San is forceful: she openly condemns Tang Hao’s neglect and repeatedly intervenes rather than accepting his behavior 1 5 6.
Her respect for Soul Masters also makes her receptive to prestigious titles. She initially excuses Yu Xiaogang’s arrogance because he is a Grandmaster, but welcomes evidence of Tang Hao’s strength once she understands what it means for Tang San’s safety 10 12.
Relationships
- Luo Li — Adopted child. Jack celebrates his cultivation potential and willingly tries his Catgirl Facial Cleanser 5 12.
