Origin and Structure

Xu Zi originally possessed an ordinary Sun Martial Soul rather than awakening the Purple Brilliant Heaven Destroying Dragon naturally. He spent three years seeking a Dragon Scale Fruit in Heaven Dou Imperial City to induce the mutation himself 23.

The fruit’s bloodline-convergence effect brought his Martial Soul closer to its strongest ancestral bloodline. Destructive power transformed the sun into a dark-purple “dragon egg,” while the dragon formed inside it. The accompanying power and will of destruction nearly killed Xu Zi; the incomplete hatching allowed him to survive 4.

Although sun and dragon have distinct functions, they constitute one two-in-one Martial Soul, not an independently ringed pair. Their relationship resembles an eggshell surrounding a dragon embryo, and both share the same Soul Rings 4 22.

Forms and Soul Ring Display

• Retained enhancements: Destruction removed the original light- and fire-compatible rings, but their characteristics remained within the sun. With three replacement rings, the Purple Sun had undergone five ring modifications and was described as comparable in strength to a Five-Ring Soul King 31.
• Hatching condition: Those retained characteristics persist unless the dragon fully hatches and breaks out of the sun 31.
• Normal vessel requirement: Xu Zi tells Ling Yuan that his family ordinarily needs a Sun Martial Soul Avatar—and the corresponding physical and mental strength—to nurture the dragon. His induced, incomplete mutation bypassed that normal situation 48.

Appearance

• Solar disk: A dark-purple blazing sun that rises behind Xu Zi and can move independently above the battlefield 1 30.
• Dragon within: An immense coiling dragon, most recognizably visible through its purple-gold eyes at the center of the disk 1 32.
• Variable size: Expands to seven or eight meters across during the confrontation with Skywater’s Ice Phoenix 32.
• Orbiting rings: Its three Soul Rings appear as “stellar rings” circling the sun during battle 32 33.
• Radiance: Casts brilliant purple light capable of tinting nearby Martial Souls and filling the surrounding area with scorching heat 29 30.

Abilities & Skills

Light and Heat Control

The Purple Sun projects adjustable light and heat across a wide area 30.

• Melts ice restraining allies, thaws hail, and weakens incoming wind and snow 30.
• Cracks and melts Skywater’s Ice Ring Armor 31.
• Raises battlefield temperatures enough to delay the descent of Ice and Snow Drifting 32.
• Burns away much of Dugu Yan’s poison mist and drives poisonous residue out of Xu Zi’s teammates 38 39.
• Neutralizes faint airborne static under intense irradiation; this does not establish immunity to every lightning attack 40.
• Gives Xu Zi substantial heat resistance through long-term adaptation, allowing him to ignore the heat carried by Ling Yuan’s Soul Pressure 17.

Remote Movement and Impact

Xu Zi can direct the sun as a mobile striking object without activating a dedicated Soul Skill 40.

• Positions it above enemy formations or sends it diving toward exposed opponents 32 40.
• Hurls it like a discus or shot put, combining impact with burning light and flame 43 45.
• Redirects a returning sun to strike an opponent from another angle 43.
• Limits: Its ordinary impact can be obstructed by defensive Martial Souls. Lei Dong also catches it in a lightning web, and its return to Xu Zi’s control range matters during the fight with the Blue Lightning Twin Stars 40 43.

Will of Destruction

The dragon’s ancestral quality produces a will of destruction described as an existence above spiritual power 4 7.

• The first Soul Ring supports Xu Zi’s use of that will as a spiritual attack rather than supplying it as a conventional inherited ring skill 7 22.
• It destroys Huang Ying’s surrounding sound-wave attack during their sparring match 7.
• It also supports the dragon’s materialization from within the Purple Sun 15.
• Risk: During early possession, destructive power strains Xu Zi’s body while destructive will floods his mind 4 7.

Purple Dragon Devours the Sun

The second Soul Skill combines the two aspects of the Martial Soul: the sun supplies the devouring mechanism, while the dragon serves as its vessel 22 48.

• A purple-black dead sun forms in the materialized dragon’s mouth, described as a black hole created by a collapsed sun 15 48.
• Swallows entire bodies, including the six-meter Dark Golden Crocodile Dragon 15 16.
• Uses destruction to grind away impurities, retaining purified essence for Xu Zi’s later absorption 15 16.
• Can retain a swallowed beast’s Soul Ring and release it separately for absorption 15.
• Cannot distribute its gains to other people 16.

Devouring is not the same as absorption. The skill can devour energy or matter beyond light and fire, but Xu Zi cannot automatically use those other attributes as nourishment. Neutralizing them instead consumes the Purple Sun’s light and fire—his Soul Power. Swallowing the Ice Phoenix therefore costs substantial energy 48.

Martial Soul Materialization

Xu Zi uses the will of destruction to give the dragon a physical manifestation emerging from the solar disk 15.

• Bypasses the ordinary materialization requirements described in the text: sufficiently powerful spiritual power and a Soul Spirit intermediary 15.
• Allows the dragon’s head to emerge and execute the devouring skill away from Xu Zi’s body 15 33.
• Limits: Early demonstrations consume considerable Soul Power and spiritual power. The visible preparation period is long enough for Heaven Thunder Team to recognize and plan around it 4 41.

Recovery and Essence Storage

• Daylight accelerates Xu Zi’s recovery through the Sun Martial Soul, while the Devouring Dragon’s traits continually devour light to replenish him 15.
• Stores purified beast essence until Xu Zi chooses to draw it into his body 15 16.
• Allows him to interrupt feedback rather than overfill his body while blocked at a Soul Ring bottleneck 15.
