Background / History

Di Ku once saved Wang Wu’s life. Wang Wu remained deeply grateful and later pledged himself to Di Ku’s grandson, Di Chen, both to repay that debt and because he believed Di Chen possessed the potential to become an immortal 15 44.

Three thousand years before his travels with Di Chen, Wang Wu witnessed a warrior associated with the Heavenly Moon Domain Lord’s Manor attain the Dao through slaughter during a foreign-domain invasion. He remembered the warrior’s massacre of the invading forces in vivid detail, although he denied personally knowing the man 19.

Before entering Di Chen’s service, Wang Wu lived beneath a Supreme Tomb in skeletal form. He looted its valuables, refined the tomb owner’s remains, and established a formation intended to devour incoming visitors. Finding the visitors unimpressive, he instead focused his attention on Di Chen and lured him deeper into the tomb 15.

Appearance

  • Before reconstruction: A skeletal body whose bones would eventually decay without a suitable bloodline to restore his flesh 15.
  • After reconstruction: An elderly man with white hair and beard, kindly brows, benevolent eyes, and vigorous vitality. His bearing is compared to that of an immortal or Daoist 16 22.
  • Presence: Despite his gentle-looking features, he can exude an oppressive aura that observers liken to a ferocious beast or an unfathomable abyss 22 25.
  • Hands: Described as thin and withered even after his restoration 39.

Personality

Wang Wu is deferential and openly affectionate toward his benefactors. He repeatedly bows or kneels to Di Chen, worries about injuring him during a requested strength test, and weeps upon reuniting with Di Ku. Di Chen’s gift of cultivation resources moves him to renew his vow of service 16 44 45.

Outside battle, he is lively, talkative, and teasing. After years underground, he eagerly seeks out teahouses and fine food, drinks wine with Di Chen, and jokes about Zi Yan’s interest in the young master 15 17 18 19.

His treatment of enemies is markedly different. He planned to consume the tomb’s visitors, responds harshly to intrusive divine sense, and willingly tortures captives or carries out mass killings at Di Chen’s command. His hostility toward foreign-domain descendants is especially pronounced 15 25 46 49.

Abilities & Skills

Close-Quarters Combat

Wang Wu fights with direct punches, palms, kicks, and clawing attacks rather than a documented signature weapon.

  • At peak Quasi-Emperor, his test punch drives Di Chen back several hundred zhang and makes him spit blood, although Di Chen immediately recovers 16.
  • As a Half-Emperor, he outmaneuvers Li Xinghe and sends him through a wall with a hand strike 39.
  • Knocks two peak Quasi-Emperors unconscious with a single sweeping kick 39.
  • Can precisely cripple an opponent by shattering the dantian while keeping the victim alive 48.
  • Limit: Fighting Li Xinghe, the Cangnan Domain Lord, and the State Preceptor together leaves him wounded and forces Di Chen to intervene 39 40.

Formations and Runic Techniques

Wang Wu uses formations and manifested symbols for both confinement and attack.

  • Establishes a tomb-wide formation intended to devour its visitors 15.
  • Creates two golden “annihilation” characters bearing lines of law and launches them at the Heavenly Moon Domain Lord’s Manor. Li Xinghe destroys them with punches 39.
  • Surrounds himself with golden runes as he releases his strength in battle 39.
  • Traps ten black-robed cultivators in a runic cage that withstands their attacks, then destroys the cage and its occupants with a punch 46.

Spiritual Pressure and Divine-Sense Defense

His cultivation allows him to intimidate, suppress, or injure weaker opponents without sustained physical combat.

  • Annihilates Granny Long’s probing strand of divine sense; a subsequent cold snort makes the sixth-heaven Quasi-Emperor cough blood 25.
  • Immobilizes the Domain Lord’s Manor gate guards with his released presence 39.
  • Manifests a gigantic palm that suppresses one thousand Black Gou Clan guards before executing them at Di Chen’s order 49.

Soul Searching and Soul Torture

Wang Wu extracts information directly from captives and can attack their souls.

  • Soul-searches foreign-domain descendants to uncover their origins, control marks, and connections to the previous Cangnan Domain Lord 46.
  • His soul searches leave subjects screaming, foaming at the mouth, or collapsing 46.
  • Uses a wisp of flame to torment a peak Quasi-Emperor’s soul until the captive agrees to reveal the Black Gou Clan’s secrets 49.
  • Limit: An unseen attacker kills that captive before the interrogation is complete; Wang Wu cannot initially locate the attacker 49.

Movement and Regional Knowledge

  • Moves at speeds that allow him to repeatedly evade and strike Li Xinghe 39.
  • Teleports to Di Chen’s side when enemies approach to kill him 41.
  • Advises Di Chen on routes between Dao Domains, available teleportation arrays, and traditions concerning the boundaries between domains 45.

Equipment / Items

  • Imperial Blood Essence: Receives ten drops from Di Chen. Their Imperial Qi enables his bodily reconstruction and advancement to peak Quasi-Emperor 15 16.
  • Storage ring and heavenly treasures: Collects valuables after the Heavenly Moon conflict and presents them to Di Chen, who returns them for Wang Wu’s cultivation. The contents include Earth Core Jade Marrow 44 45.
  • Location Space-Breaking Talismans: Recovers three from the men encountered during the foreign-domain investigation and gives them to Di Chen. One transports both men directly to the Cangnan Dao Domain 47.

Relationships

  • Di Chen — Young master and benefactor. Wang Wu voluntarily becomes his follower; Di Chen restores his body, supports his cultivation, and intervenes when he is injured 15 16 40 45.
  • Di Ku — Earlier lifesaver and the foundation of Wang Wu’s loyalty to Di Chen. At their reunion, Di Ku asks him to assist his grandson and promises him a future great fortune 44.
  • Granny Long — Zi Yan’s protector. Wang Wu injures her for probing him with divine sense but refrains from escalating further to avoid troubling Di Chen 25.
  • Li Xinghe — Enemy and repeated opponent. Wang Wu attacks him for injuring Di Chen, then later returns to challenge him personally 28 39.
  • State Preceptor / Imperial Preceptor — Enemy who wounds Wang Wu during the three-on-one Half-Emperor battle. Wang Wu later intercepts him while defending the injured Di Chen 39 41.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Restoration beneath the Supreme Tomb

After Di Chen accepts his allegiance, Wang Wu reveals the underground Water of the Dark Nether as a body-tempering opportunity. He explains that a pure Emperor Bloodline could restore his flesh and requests ten drops of blood essence. Di Chen’s blood proves to be the superior Imperial Bloodline, exceeding his expectations 15.

During three years of seclusion, Wang Wu regains a living body and reaches peak Quasi-Emperor. At Di Chen’s request, he tests the young master’s transformed physique with a punch before accompanying him out of the tomb 16.

First Heavenly Moon Confrontation

Wang Wu accompanies Di Chen to investigate Li Yunxiao’s return and agrees to attack the Domain Lord’s Manor despite discovering that they have no reinforcements 17 21.

At the tournament, his retaliation against Granny Long exposes the strength of Di Chen’s protector. He subsequently attacks Li Xinghe after the Domain Lord wounds Di Chen, and their collision destroys the great hall. Di Chen then orders him to stand down 25 28.

Sword Sect Stay and Return Battle

At the Sword Sect, Wang Wu waits outside while Di Chen enters the Sword Graveyard and later guards his room during cultivation. His own strength grows considerably during their two-year stay 32 38.

On returning to the Domain Lord’s Manor, he reveals his Half-Emperor cultivation, defeats two peak Quasi-Emperors, and battles three Half-Emperors simultaneously. After the State Preceptor wounds him, Di Chen takes over. When Di Chen is later severely injured, Wang Wu returns to his side and refuses to surrender him 39 40 41.

Following Di Ku’s appearance, Wang Wu reunites with his old benefactor. Di Chen then assigns him to punish those involved in the earlier attack and collect only three of the manor’s most valuable treasures, leaving the remaining resources behind. Wang Wu reports the assignment complete three days later 44 45.

Cangnan Investigation

While traveling toward Cangnan, Wang Wu helps rescue a wounded party and discovers that control marks placed on descendants of foreign-domain captives have been removed. Further soul searches reveal a conspiracy involving the previous Cangnan Domain Lord 45 46.

After reaching Cang City, he acts as Di Chen’s principal enforcer during the assault on the Cangnan Domain Manor. He cripples a Quasi-Emperor, kills one thousand Black Gou Clan guards, and captures their peak Quasi-Emperor leader for interrogation 47 48 49.

The captive reveals that the clan operates across multiple Dao Domains and within the Immortal Domain, but an unseen attacker silences him. After Di Chen confronts the mysterious figure, Wang Wu leaves with him 49 50.
