Background

Previous Life

Rudeus was a Japanese shut-in who spent twenty years withdrawn from society. He had suffered bullying, neglected his parents’ funeral, and was beaten and expelled from home by his older brother. He later told Luo Ge that he died after being struck by a dump truck while saving someone 2 11.

He concealed most of his past out of shame and fear that Luo Ge would reject him. Unlike his twin, he expressed no desire to return to his original world and said that nothing there held his attachment 2 11.

Childhood in Buena Village

Rudeus was born immediately before Luo Ge to Paul and Zenith Greyrat. The twins grew up with the household maid, Lilia, and privately confirmed their shared reincarnator status when they were two and a half 1 2.

His self-taught magic led his parents to arrange formal instruction. Roxy Migurdia became both boys’ tutor, teaching magic theory, geography, and the customs of different races. Rudeus progressed rapidly in magic, while Luo Ge increasingly concentrated on swordsmanship 3 8.

Despite his confidence indoors, Rudeus initially feared leaving the house. Family encouragement helped him enter the courtyard for sword training, but he continued resisting trips beyond the property during Roxy’s stay 4 11.

Appearance

  • Build and features: Fair, delicate, thin, and comparatively frail, with an almost feminine boyish appearance 4 132.
  • Distinguishing mark: A faint tear mole beneath the outer corner of his right eye; Luo Ge lacks this mark 83.
  • Resemblance to Luo Ge: Their facial contours are similar enough for repeated mistaken identities, although Luo Ge has sharper features and a more muscular build 42 83 132.
  • Travel clothing: Wears a gray robe and cloak while crossing the Demon Continent 95.

Personality

Rudeus combines pride in his magical talent with deep insecurity. As a child, he eagerly shows off his spells, even ignoring warnings that intermediate magic is unsafe indoors. Luo Ge’s overwhelming physical ability repeatedly undermines that confidence, leaving him envious of his younger brother despite his own exceptional talent 2 3 15 174.

His lecherous behavior is apparent from infancy and frequently draws reprimands from Luo Ge. He also plays pranks and retaliates against his brother’s betrayals: after Luo Ge exposes his unauthorized magic practice, Rudeus later reveals Luo Ge’s blackmail of Roxy at a family meeting 1 2 3 8 14 165.

Trauma from his former life makes him fearful of rejection and prone to retreating into despair. Nevertheless, his relationships develop beyond that fear: he comes to value Rujierd sincerely, chooses reconciliation with Paul, and returns to face Orsted rather than abandon Luo Ge 2 116 167 168 180 182.

Abilities & Skills

Voiceless Magic

Rudeus can cast offensive magic without incantations, an ability he developed before receiving formal tuition 3 8.

  • Reproduces Roxy’s beginner water spell without chanting 8.
  • Uses combined magic that impresses Roxy 8.
  • Cannot perform incantationless healing, a crucial limitation when Orsted pierces his chest 177.
  • His casting can be interrupted by Orsted’s Disturb Magic 176.

Mana Reserves and Spell Compression

Rudeus possesses enormous mana reserves; Orsted explicitly compares their scale to Laplace’s 176 182.

  • Casts Saint Rank magic effortlessly during his graduation exam 12.
  • Injures Orsted’s palm with the intermediate earth spell Rock Bullet, despite the Dragon God’s exceptional defenses 176.
  • Compresses a beginner Fireball into a vastly more destructive attack using his remaining mana 176.
  • Unleashes repeated Emperor Rank-equivalent compressed spells during his attempt to protect Luo Ge 182.
  • Raw power does not guarantee success: Orsted dissipates the compressed Fireball with Front Dragon Gate and withstands the later barrage 176 182.

Water Magic

Rudeus reaches Water Saint Rank at five years old 12.

  • Water Stream: An intermediate projectile powerful enough to destroy an attic wall and send water across Buena Village 3.
  • Cumulonimbus: A Saint Rank weather spell producing a major storm; his graduation casting exceeds Roxy’s demonstration in power 12.

Earth Magic and Battlefield Control

Earth magic is identified as the element Rudeus uses best during the battle against Orsted 182.

  • Fires Rock Bullets as ranged attacks 176 182.
  • Restricts an opponent’s movement while Rujierd attacks at close range 182.

Healing Magic

Rudeus learns healing under Roxy and later treats both himself and Rujierd 8 167 180.

  • Heals himself after Eris’s punches, although his cheeks continue to hurt 167.
  • Treats Rujierd before returning to help Luo Ge 180.
  • Requires incantations, leaving him unable to save himself promptly from Orsted’s near-fatal wound 177.

Demon Eye of Foresight

Kishirika grants Rudeus an eye that allows him to perceive events a few seconds ahead 131 176.

  • Helps him gain an overwhelming advantage over Paul in their Milishion fight 145.
  • Does not ensure that he can evade what he sees: he foresees Orsted piercing his chest but cannot prevent it 176.

Figurine Crafting

  • Creates figurines that become treasured possessions of Zanoba, including one modeled on Luo Ge’s childhood appearance 95.
  • Zanoba’s desire to meet their maker gives Luo Ge leverage when requesting help to rescue Aisha’s mother 95.

Equipment / Items

  • Roxy’s handmade wand — A birthday gift fitted with a magic stone that reduces mana consumption 12.
  • Book from Zenith — Receives a book alongside Luo Ge as a birthday present 12.
  • Two hundred green ore coins — Given by Luo Ge ostensibly for medical expenses; Rudeus instead uses the money to buy Rujierd passage off the Demon Continent 138 145.
  • Broken Phoenix Elegant Dragon Sword — Recovers Luo Ge’s ruined weapon from the mountain rubble and carries it back to Milishion as evidence of his brother’s presumed death; it is not Rudeus’s own weapon 190.

Relationships

  • Luo Ge / Rog Greyrat — Younger twin and fellow reincarnator. Their bond includes constant rivalry and physical teasing, but Rudeus regards him as an important confidant and risks his life to protect him 2 17 43 182.
  • Paul Greyrat — Father and swordsmanship instructor. Their reunion becomes a violent argument over family responsibilities and perceived favoritism; they later reconcile 4 145 168.
  • Zenith Greyrat — Mother. She celebrates his magical talent, and fear for her safety deeply affects him after the Teleportation Incident 3 133.
  • Roxy Migurdia — Magic teacher whom he reveres. Her instruction brings him to Water Saint Rank, and he resents the prospect of Luo Ge traveling alone with her 12 17.
  • Lilia — Household maid. Rudeus intervenes on her behalf when her relationship with Paul is exposed, helping secure her place in the family 101.
  • Norn and Aisha Greyrat — Younger sisters. After reconciling with Paul, he agrees to delay his departure to get to know them better 168.
  • Eris Boreas Greyrat — Student and traveling companion. He commits to escorting her home; she protects him from Orsted and supports him after his confrontation with Paul 132 138 167 176.
  • Rujierd Superdia — Protector and Dead End companion. Initial fear of the Superd gives way to trust and affection; Rujierd’s account of their journey helps Paul understand Rudeus’s hardships 116 145 167.
  • Sylphie — Someone he remembers affectionately and fears losing. Luo Ge teasingly calls her his sister-in-law, but the supplied events do not establish a marriage 83 84 133.
  • Hitogami — Dream adviser. Rudeus initially follows his instructions to improve the Superd’s reputation, and later receives advice leading to Kishirika and his reunion with Luo Ge 116 128 131.
  • Kishirika — Grants him the Demon Eye of Foresight in exchange for food 131.
  • Orsted — Nearly kills him after identifying him as an Apostle of the Human God 176.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Luo Ge’s Departure and Presumed Death

After watching Luo Ge defeat Paul, Rudeus challenges their father in hopes of joining his brother’s travels. He loses decisively and remains behind 15 16 17.

News of Luo Ge’s apparent death devastates him and creates a lasting fear of the Dragon God. He attends the family’s memorial observances and writes to Roxy about the loss. When Eris later claims to have seen Luo Ge alive, Rudeus and Ghislaine search Roa without success, leading him to reject the sighting as a cruel joke 27 43.

Eris’s Tutor and the Teleportation Incident

Paul sends Rudeus to Roa to tutor Eris and earn tuition money. The Fittoa Teleportation Incident subsequently strands them on the Demon Continent, where Rujierd catches them as they fall from the sky and saves their lives 132 167.

The three form Dead End and travel across the continent. Rudeus initially assists Rujierd at Hitogami’s direction, but gradually develops genuine respect for his companion 116 145.

Wind Port Reunion

Following Hitogami’s advice, Rudeus feeds Kishirika, receives the Demon Eye of Foresight, and reaches the shore, where he discovers Luo Ge alive. The brothers exchange accounts of their years apart 128 131 132.

Rudeus chooses to escort Eris home before searching for his missing family. Luo Ge challenges that decision but ultimately respects it and provides money, which Rudeus uses for Rujierd’s ship ticket 138 145.

Conflict and Reconciliation with Paul

In Milishion, Paul accuses Rudeus of neglecting the family’s rescue efforts and repeatedly compares him unfavorably with Luo Ge. Rudeus protests that he endured hardships too and accuses Paul of favoritism. Their argument becomes a fight, with Rudeus overpowering his father using his improved combat ability and foresight 145.

Rujierd later explains the dangers Rudeus faced, prompting Paul to reconsider and plan an apology. Rudeus chooses to meet him rather than withdraw into his old habits; afterward, he tells Eris that they have made up 167 168.

Encounter with the Dragon God

At the Red Dragon’s Lower Jaw, Rudeus calls out to a passing stranger who proves to be Orsted. His denial of knowing Hitogami fails, and Orsted attacks the group, defeats Rujierd and Eris, and pierces Rudeus’s chest 175 176.

Rudeus continues attacking despite the wound, but his strongest remaining spell fails. Luo Ge arrives before the finishing blow and saves him with God-Rank Healing Magic 176 177.

After recovering, Rudeus returns with his companions to help Luo Ge. He provides ranged support against Orsted, but even his compressed spells cannot overcome the Dragon God’s defenses. Rujierd evacuates him and Eris as the final clash threatens to collapse the mountain pass 180 182 183.

Search for Luo Ge

Rudeus, Eris, and Rujierd search the mountains for over a month without finding Luo Ge. They recover his broken sword and return to Milishion, where a guilt-stricken Rudeus explains that his brother disappeared while saving him 184 190 191.

The family holds a funeral without a body, but Luo Ge appears alive during the ceremony 192.

Name and Reputation Confusion

  • Dragon-slaying credit: Luo Ge introduces himself as Rudeus while adventuring and kills a Red Dragon under that name. Songs and rumors subsequently establish “Rudeus Greyrat” as the Dragon Slayer 45 46 48.
  • Isolte’s search: Isolte seeks “Rudeus” at the Sword Sanctum because Luo Ge used his brother’s name during their encounter 40 63.
  • Pax’s ambush: Pax mistakes Luo Ge for Rudeus when attempting to capture Roxy’s disciple as bait 96.
  • Twin seniority: Luo Ge sometimes claims to be the older brother, but Rudeus is explicitly the firstborn twin 1 83 140 146.
